What happens when you take the latest version of the legendary Land Rover Defender 90 and add a 518-horsepower V-8? Well, one thing that happens is you have the subject of one of our road tests for this week. Co-Host Chris Teague took command of a 2022 Defender 90 V8 at his home in Maine, and he put it through the acid test. The big question: has the gentrified Defender lost its gritty edge? We'll have the answer for you and a lot more details as well. But that's not our only exciting road test this week. In our second road test in this episode, Host Jack Nerad slipped behind the wheel of the luxurious and sporty 2022 Volvo S90 B6 R-Design. The B6 configuration is new to the S90 this year, and horsepower has been shaved versus the previous T6 high-performance version. So an important question to be answered is: Is this an advance or a retreat? We'll have our conclusions for you coming up. Are you ready to take your hands off the wheel and drive? That's an opportunity General Motors' Super Cruise offers you. And now Super Cruise has been expanded to almost double the miles of roads. Can you feel comfortable while a GMC Hummer EV SUV or Cadillac Lyric electric crossover drives itself? We'll find out from a key member of GM's Super Cruise team, Dave Craig. In the news, the switch to electric vehicles might be in trouble. While California says it will ban sales of gasoline-powered vehicles in 2035, a new study asks the question will infrastructure problems like poor public charging doom the growth of EVs? We'll have the details of what J.D. Power experts have to say about that in this week's show. Also in the news, two luxury brands just introduced fascinating new concept vehicles that promise to change the way you think about them. We'll give you the details and our reactions coming up.

Did you know 65 of Wisconsin's 72 counties have at least one area with a shortage of dental providers, according to federal data? Access to dental care is a big concern when it comes to children, the elderly, and the disabled. It's a real problem with real health implications. But the free market has a solution—a recent study by the MacIver Institute describes a new profession, dental therapy. Dental therapists are licensed to perform more procedures than hygienists, and allowing them here would help increase access by adding to the pool of qualified professionals. Tomorrow a Senate committee will hear testimony on a bill by Sen. Dave Craig doing just that, allowing those who complete required education and pass state exams to be granted a dental therapy license. Dentistry is just one area where regulation stands in the way of solving real-world problems. But soon, lawmakers will have the chance to bust one of those barriers.

Wisconsin's governor may have the most powerful veto pen in the country. Governor Tony Evers thinks it's a magic wand. Somehow Evers managed to use his line-item veto power to increase K-12 spending by $87 million. This week's News Minute explains how he did it. Thankfully, Senator Dave Craig and Representative Mike Kuglitsch are pulling back the curtain, proposing a Constitutional amendment to prevent such tricks from soaking taxpayers in the future.

Let's see how far all the talk of bipartisanship and finding common ground goes. Gov. Tony Evers has said he's willing to work across the aisle to find solutions to Wisconsin's problems. State Sen. Dave Craig (R-Big Bend) is reaching back with an idea whose time is long overdue. He wants the new Democrat governor to champion free-market values and lead the campaign to repeal Wisconsin's competition-killing, price-inflating minimum markup law. Sen. Craig is our guest on this edition of MacIver Newsmakers.
Lawmakers say it's long past time to reform Wisconsin's lavish sick leave benefits program. The generous benefit, which has been described as a health care "golden parachute" for state government retirees, is unlike anything you'll find the private sector and, in some cases, beneficiaries amass staggering balances over their careers. Rep. Janel Brandtjen and Sen. Dave Craig say they want to see legislation putting a cap on this costly benefit. A new bill being circulated in the Legislature by Sen. Dave Craig and Rep. Joe Sanfelippo would establish a bicameral committee with the rarely used subpoena power. The aim would be to force slippery John Doe investigators and former GAB agents to sit before lawmakers and answer questions - under oath. Sen. Dave Craig (R-Town of Vernon) tells MacIver's Matt Kittle that state lawmakers should establish a bicameral commission to force highly partisan GAB staffers involved in the John Doe probe to testify under oath and face consequences. A bombshell DOJ report found they were essentially conducting "opposition research" against conservatives during John Doe.
