While it is a serious condition (and unfortunately has negatively affected the lives of some), we want to cut through the fear-mongering headlines about B6 toxicity to give you more balanced, science-backed information you need as someone on a healing journey. By the end of the episode, you'll understand exactly why B6 is crucial for healing, when it becomes problematic, and how to use it safely and effectively. In today's episode, Chris & Filly talk about about: B6 toxicity symptoms mirror deficiency symptoms, which can cause confusion around whether there is a toxicity or deficiency. Inactive B6 (pyridoxine) causes most toxicity cases, while active P5P used in most practitioner supplements is safer (and more therapeutic) at lower doses. Only 1 in 500,000 people experience B6 toxicity, typically from high-dose inactive forms taken without supervision, and most of the case's symptoms resolve after stopping the supplement. Avoid these 4 big zinc supplement mistakes!1. Taking too much zincZinc and copper work together and compete for absorption. Always take copper with zinc to avoid a copper deficiency. Some parts of the immune system benefit from high doses of zinc, while others thrive with just the right amount of zinc. Taking 100 to 200 mg of zinc for 3 days is beneficial if you have an inflammatory infection, but high doses of zinc for extended periods can also be damaging. Know when to take zinc and avoid high doses for long periods. 2. No cofactors taken with zincCofactors are vitamins and minerals that work together to allow our biochemistry to work. For zinc to function properly in the body, you need adequate magnesium, vitamin B6, and folate. 3. Not knowing when you're deficientWhite nail spots can sometimes indicate a zinc deficiency, but how can you know for sure if you're deficient? Try the zinc test! Take a small amount of zinc in your mouth and swish it around. If you can taste the metallic taste, you are not deficient. If you can't taste anything, you need more zinc. 4. Taking too little zinc Taking too little zinc is just as bad as taking too much! Carbohydrates contain phytic acid, which blocks zinc. This is why zinc deficiency is so common in children. Diarrhea can deplete zinc and other minerals, and low stomach acid can inhibit mineral absorption. Alcohol, pregnancy, and high estrogen from birth control pills can also increase your demand for zinc. Red meat, shellfish, liver, and oysters are the best sources of zinc. If you opt for supplements, you must take at least 30 mg of zinc daily for a therapeutic effect. Zinc works best when taken with food, but it still works on an empty stomach. 1. Although benign, skin tags are common in people with diabetes or prediabetes. Reverse diabetes by decreasing carbohydrates and increasing high-quality protein. 2. Itchy private parts are often caused by fungal overgrowth. Take vitamin D to strengthen your immune system and stop the itching. 3. Nighttime restlessness is related to vitamin B1 deficiency, typically caused by a high-carb diet. 4. Tingling or numbness in the toes or bottoms of the feet is a nerve problem. Benfotiamine, taken four times daily, can help correct this problem. 5. Bleeding gums are related to vitamin C deficiency.6. Chronic cough can be caused by a calcium deficiency or acid coming up the esophagus. 7. Carpal tunnel syndrome is often related to a vitamin B6 deficiency.8. Brittle nails are usually caused by a biotin deficiency. 9. Cold feet and hands signify that you need more iodine.10. Early morning problems such as leg cramps, migraines, and chest pain are related to magnesium deficiency. Take magnesium glycinate before bed as a remedy.11. Ulcers and gastritis result from zinc deficiency. Zinc carnosine is the best form of zinc for this problem.12. Nose bleeds are sometimes caused by high blood pressure, but can also be caused by a vitamin K1 or vitamin C deficiency.13. Chest pain or pain down the left arm or shoulder is related to a vitamin E deficiency. Tocotrienols are the best remedy for these symptoms.14. Raised bumps on the back of the arms are a classic vitamin A deficiency. Retinol, the active form of vitamin A, is only found in animal products such as liver, egg yolk, cheese, and cod liver oil.15. Sodium deficiency can cause fatigue, insomnia, and weak muscles. Increase your salt intake if you're experiencing these symptoms.16. Decreased libido is often caused by a zinc deficiency. Take 50 mg of zinc a few times daily to solve this problem.17. Dry, scaly skin is typically caused by too much omega-6 fat and not enough omega-3 fat. Increase your intake of cod liver oil, fish oil, and wild-caught sardines or salmon. 18. White dots on the nails are often caused by a zinc deficiency.
