Volvo's current XC90 launched almost a decade ago and was a pivotal piece of the brand's U.S. offerings. Unsurprisingly, the large, three-row crossover performed well for Volvo over the last decade. Despite the brand's pivot into electric vehicles, Volvo has given the second-generation XC90 another facelift to keep it relevant to customers. This extensive overhaul swaps sheet metal and interior pieces to give the XC90's relatively old bones a new, albeit familiar, look. Powering the updated XC90 is the same array of hybrid powertrains, with the B5 and B6 models opting for the mild-hybrid-assisted 2.0-liter I4 that generates 247 hp and 295 hp, respectively. Topping the chart is the plug-in hybrid T8 variant, that throws 455 hp to the wheels. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren and Autoweek executive editor Tom Murphy put the 2025 Volvo XC90 T8 through its paces. Wren takes you on a guided tour of the updated Volvo XC90 and highlights some of the new design elements and features. Later, Wren takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Wren chats with Murphy about their experiences in different versions of the updated XC90, how the refreshed Volvo is performing in the marketplace, and more. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes the 2025 Volvo XC90 special.

Finding Focus: Natural ADHD Treatment That Works

More Than Medicine

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 14, 2025 32:52 Transcription Available

Send us a textDr. Robert Jackson and his daughter Hannah Miller dive deep into a revolutionary approach to ADHD treatment that's changing lives without the typical medication side effects. They explore Dr. James Greenblatt's book "Finally Focused," which presents an 11-step "Plus-Minus Plan" developed over 30 years of clinical practice. What makes this approach remarkable isn't that it rejects medication entirely—Dr. Greenblatt still prescribes ADHD medications for many patients. Rather, it's his bold guarantee: follow his protocol completely, and ADHD medications will work without causing harmful side effects. This natural treatment plan addresses underlying biological imbalances that contribute to ADHD symptoms, creating a foundation for healthier brain function. The conversation reveals surprising findings about ADHD treatment. Most children with ADHD are magnesium deficient, which when supplemented alongside vitamin B6 can dramatically improve symptoms. "Nutritional lithium" at tiny doses (10-30mg) works wonders for many patients. The gut microbiome plays a crucial role too—many children develop ADHD symptoms following repeated antibiotic treatments that disrupt beneficial gut bacteria.Hannah shares her personal perspective as a parent of children with ADHD, offering practical insights about implementing these approaches at home. She appreciates Dr. Greenblatt's realistic expectations for parents—you don't need to eliminate every gram of sugar, just make reasonable improvements. The book provides specific dosages, recommended brands, and action plans that make implementation straightforward. The discussion also covers essential ADHD fundamentals: its genetic nature, how symptoms differ between boys and girls, why children are frequently socially excluded, and the critical understanding that many ADHD brains naturally "catch up" around age eight, potentially eliminating the need for intervention.Whether you're parenting a child with ADHD or struggling with symptoms yourself as an adult, this episode offers hope through evidence-based natural approaches that complement or potentially replace conventional medication. The same strategies that help children can transform adult ADHD management too. Ready to discover a better way to address ADHD? This conversation could change everything.Support the showhttps://www.jacksonfamilyministry.comhttps://bobslone.com/home/podcast-production/

CAR-T Cell Breakthrough Threatened by NIH Cuts: Medical Advances, Vitamin Warnings, and Health Misinformation

Ask Doctor Dawn

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 13, 2025 48:04

Broadcast from KSQD, Santa Cruz on 6-12-2025: Dr. Dawn opens with alarming news about NIH budget cuts devastating cancer research just as breakthrough CAR-T cell therapy shows promise for gastrointestinal cancers. This personalized immunotherapy extracts patients' T cells, engineers them to target specific cancer antigens, and makes them essentially immortal before reinfusion. While previously successful only for blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, researchers achieved tumor shrinkage in 25% of solid GI tumor patients. However, devastating layoffs forced removal of two patients from trials due to staff shortages and supply chain disruptions. Dr. Dawn emphasizes how pregnancy can worsen hidden cancers due to immune suppression, explaining why aggressive metastasized cancers often appear shortly after childbirth. Dr. Dawn takes a call from Bob about concerning forehead growths his dermatologist examined. She speculates they're likely seborrheic keratoses - benign, stuck-on appearing growths common in sun-exposed areas that look like crumpled brown paper "spit-wads". These aging-related changes are harmless and can even be picked off, though she warns against repeatedly traumatizing any skin area as this increases cancer risk through accumulated DNA damage. She explains how repetitive trauma in occupational settings creates statistically higher cancer risks, comparing it to filling a bingo card of cellular errors. She addresses an email about Joe Tippens' cancer cure protocol involving fenbendazole, an anti-parasitic drug. Dr. Dawn explains this viral social media phenomenon began when Tippens claimed his lung cancer was cured by fenbendazole, but he was simultaneously receiving Keytruda immunotherapy at MD Anderson. The story spread rapidly in South Korea, causing pharmacy shortages. Unvalidated internet health information can spread dangerously. Dr. Dawn compares it to old-fashioned medicine show scams. trend Dr. Dawn warns about a recent vitamin B6 toxicity misdiagnosis trend affecting her patients who were told they had dangerous levels of B6 despite lacking neuropathy symptoms. Accuracy requires fasting 12 hours before blood draws, otherwise creating false elevations from recent vitamin consumption. More critically, she alerts listeners about biotin(Vitamin B7) interference with laboratory tests using biotin-streptavidin techniques. High-dose biotin supplements are often used in hair and nail health growth formulas. This can falsely alter tests for thyroid hormones, vitamin D, sex hormones, cortisol and dangerously, troponin levels that diagnose heart attacks. This could lead to missed myocardial infarctions in emergency rooms, potentially causing fatal outcomes. Dr. Dawn takes a call from Richard seeking information about a previous radio program guest. She guides him to use on-line resources at ksqd.org to find program details, pivoting into praise for libraries as community centers offering far more than internet access. She emphasizes libraries provide serendipitous discovery that algorithms can't match, encouraging people to explore their local library systems for events, historical collections, and personal assistance from knowledgeable librarians eager to help visitors navigate both physical and digital resources. She discusses the concerning trend of giving melatonin to children, calling it "the Grinch that stole children's bedtime." While used prescription-only for severe developmental disorders in Denmark and EU countries, American children receive melatonin gummies regularly, with one in five preteens using it occasionally. Dr. Dawn explains melatonin is a hormone affecting pancreas, heart, fat tissue, and reproductive organs still developing in children. Supplemental doses create blood levels 10 times higher than natural peaks, representing an uncontrolled medical experiment on developing brains and bodies. Poison control calls for melatonin ingestion increased 530% between 2012-2021, with one tragic case involving a three-month-old death where 20 melatonin bottles were found in the home. Dr. Dawn concludes by debunking food expiration date myths, explaining that Americans waste a third of food ($7 billion annually) due to misunderstanding labels. Most shelf-stable foods simply degrade in quality rather than becoming dangerous after printed dates. She notes acidic dairy products like yogurt resist bacterial contamination due to protective bacteria, and even surface mold can be scraped off safely. However, she emphasizes trusting expiration dates on lunch meats and deli products, which pose real listeria risks when stored improperly. California will soon simplify labeling laws to reduce confusion between quality and safety dates.

ADHD is not genetic! In this video, we'll examine the profound connection between ADHD and diet. Discover the foods that worsen ADHD symptoms, the relationship between ADHD and sugar intake, and the best ADHD diet to address the nutritional deficiencies that may be causing some of the symptoms in the first place. 0:00 Introduction: ADHD and poor nutrition0:13 ADHD diagnosis and ADHD symptoms 1:54 Side effects of ADHD medications 2:04 ADHD causes 3:32 ADHD and food4:24 ADHD and nutritional deficiencies 6:20 The best ADHD dietAttention deficit hyperactivity disorder is typically diagnosed by identifying the following ADHD symptoms:•Makes mistakes easily•Lack of attention to detail•Does not listen when spoken to directly •Doesn't complete tasks •Cannot play quietly•Problems organizing •Loses things•Frequent fidgeting •Too much energy•Talks too much Many ADHD symptoms are normal childhood behaviors, and a poor diet can exaggerate all of them. ADHD is often treated with Adderall and Ritalin, which make lots of money for Big Pharma. The definition of ADHD has been dramatically expanded to make it more diagnosable, putting more people on medication.A double-blinded study showed that after 36 months, any benefits from Adderall faded to zero. It also has side effects such as aggressive behavior or a dulled mood. ADHD involves a metabolic problem with the prefrontal cortex of the brain. These metabolic changes affect the way the brain metabolizes fuel. If the brain is starved of fuel, you may exhibit symptoms like a lack of attention and hyperactivity. Chemicals like food dyes, artificial sweeteners, sugar, starch, and MSG tremendously impact behavior. Increasing dopamine can improve focus and feelings of calmness. Foods such as meat, fish, eggs, and cheese are high in the amino acid L-tyrosine, the precursor to dopamine.Research has shown that micronutrients, especially B6, magnesium, and zinc, can significantly decrease ADHD symptoms. Omega-3 fatty acids and fish oils can also improve symptoms without side effects. Vitamin B1 is one of the most overlooked nutrients, especially in psychiatric conditions. When a child consumes a lot of glucose, vitamin B1 is depleted, inhibiting the brain's ability to utilize fuel. If an adult or child is experiencing ADHD symptoms, they should switch to a low-carb diet so their body can run on ketones. Ketones will fuel the neurons and restore a sense of calmness and increased attention span. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions:    Kris: Hi, I was wondering if you would have any suggestions ,help or feed back on dermatomyositis/antisynthetase syndrome . My husband (Anthony) was recently diagnosed with it, and everything I read and hear it seems little scary. We see a functional medicine dr. now but she is waiting to see what a rheumatologist suggests. Both my husband and myself are thinking detoxing would be the first thing we should do. Would you have any suggestions or thought on how we deal and handle this? thank you in advance                                                                                                                                                    Frankie: Hi Stephen, hope your having a great day. I've been dealing with post-nasal drip for a while, and my ENT believes it's caused by acid. I'm 21 and was prescribed two doses of Pantoprazole 40mg and two doses of Ranitidine 150mg, but I stopped after a month because I was supposed to take them for three months, and I don't want to stay on them that long. I had asthma when I was younger, so I wonder if that could be a factor. At this point, I don't know what else to do to get rid of it. any advice?                                                                                                                                           Melissa: Hi Dr. Cabral, I took the food sensitivity test and the heavy metals test. On my food sensitivity test it showed Candida albicans and I had some heavy metals such as aluminum and mercury show up on my HM test. Do you recommend doing the detox before doing the CBO protocol or vice versa? If I could only do one, which one would you recommend? For the detox, would you recommend the heavy metals one or the general 7 days (I've never done a detox before). Also, would it be safe to start the estrogen balance and estrogen support supplements at the same time as starting a detox or CBO protocol? If I'm just trying help my body excrete estrogen would you recommend just the estrogen balance supplement? I don't make too much estrogen but it's high because my body isn't excreting it well. TY!!!                  Jill: Thank you Dr. Cabral for your honest and straight forward approach. I have the MTHFR gene and seek a daily vitamin with B vitamins & folate. Many products are available with the activated or methylated forms of folate, B6, and B12. However, when I take them I experience headaches, a feeling of overstimulation, and anxiousness. I spent months experimenting and broke down my multivitamin taking a complex without any B vitamins and then added in individual forms of non methylated folate and B vitamins. I had no issue when folate and B vitamins were methyl free such as folinic acid and the Hydroxocobalamin and Adenosylcobalamin forms of B12. Tell me I'm not crazy! Do you agree that some people may be sensitive to methylated nutrients? Would you consider making DNS with methyl free nutrients?                 Morgan: Hi Dr Cabral. I'm 34 years old and have recently been diagnosed with isolated high diastolic blood pressure (systolic is normal). I live a healthy lifestyle including daily exercise, balanced diet and maintain a healthy weight. I don't smoke or drink alcohol. I recently left a job causing me some stress but otherwise I live a pretty stress-free life and I also practice daily yoga and meditation. My mom was diagnosed with hypertension in her 20s and has been on medication since. My HCP suggested starting me on medication too. I feel very strongly about relying on a lifelong medication. My question is even though I do everything correct to prevent high blood pressure, is it possible that some things are just simply genetic? Any suggestions before trying medication? Anything helps! In this encore episode, we discuss the role of histamine within the gastrointestinal tract, detailing its regulation of gastric acid secretion and impact on intestinal motility. We examine how histamine-producing enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells, mast cells, and gut microbiota contribute to histaminergic signaling, and how enzymatic degradation via diamine oxidase (DAO) maintains homeostasis. Additionally, we discuss histamine intolerance, highlighting the impacts of dysbiosis (as well as SIBO or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and intestinal barrier dysfunction on DAO insufficiency and histamine accumulation.Topics: 1. Introduction to Histamine & the Gastrointestinal Tract- Role in digestion and motility- Impact of intestinal conditions such as SIBO  2. Histamine as a Biogenic Amine- Definition and classification- L-histidine and histidine decarboxylase (HDC)- Presence in various tissues, including the GI tract 3. Sources of Histamine in the Gut- Enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells in the stomach- Mast cells in the lamina propria- Histamine-producing gut bacteria 4. Histamine's Role in Digestion & Gastric Acid Secretion- Interaction with parietal cells in the stomach- Activation of proton pumps via H₂ receptor binding- Maintenance of acidic pH for digestion- Importance of proper pH within the stomach for protecting against pathogenic microbes- Impact on downstream gut microbiota balance (e.g., SIBO) 5. Histamine & Intestinal Motility- Modulation of gut motility via H₁ and H₃ receptors- H₁ receptor activation leading to contractions (diarrhea, cramping)- H₃ receptor-mediated inhibition of neurotransmitter release (bloating, slow motility) 6. Histamine Intolerance: Definition & Mechanisms- Diamine Oxidase and histamine breakdown- DAO secretion by enterocytes (intestinal epithelial cells)- Enzymatic breakdown of histamine before absorption 7. Your brain is not producing adequate amounts of neurotransmitters.   Neurotransmitters control your reality–your mood, memory, thinking and behavior.    And when your brain has what it needs, you naturally feel relaxed and alert, focused and positive–even happy.    But when your brain does not have what it needs, you get symptoms like anxiety, depression, anger and irritability, apathy, low energy and motivation, sleep problems and loss of memory, focus and attention.    An inadequate supply of neurotransmitters is why you have the urge to use substances like sugar, alcohol, caffeine and prescription medications to cope or compensate.   The good news is that nutrients you need are inexpensive and widely available. And clinical studies show that following simple nutritional protocols gives you FIVE TO ONE ODDS of overcoming substance use disorders.   In this episode, I give you a basic overview of the vitamins, minerals and amino acid supplements that can restore your sense of confidence and control.    —Click here to BOOK A DISCOVERY CALL if you're ready to fully commit to your personal growth and do the work to get emotionally sober.
