Oh, friends and neighbors, are we excited for this episode. We love education, and we love educators who love education, and we love a different take on education. This week's episode checks every single boxes as we talk to a Superintendent who is doing things just a little differently in his North Dakota community. About Cory: Dr. Cory Steiner is currently the Superintendent of the Northern Cass School District for the past 10 years. He has been an administrator for 17 years. In his current role, he has worked with a dedicated and passionate group of educators to shift their entire system to personalized competency-based learning. He has served on the Governor's Task Force on Innovation which has challenged North Dakota's education system to think differently. Northern Cass was a finalist for the Yass Prize and they received $500,000 to develop a Full-Service Community School. Dr. Steiner believes every learner can change the world; therefore, we must provide a world-class education. It is a moral imperative we change our educational system to one which is uncompromisingly learner-centered. He also serves on the Education Standards and Practices Board, The Village Family Service Center, Rural Cass Special Education, and the Southeast Education Cooperative Board of directors. He is an adjunct professor for the University of Jamestown and the University of North Dakota. He is married to his wife, Jess, and has two children, DelRae (22), and Kelsa (19). In this episode, we cover: How Northern Cass is different What people love about it Why things being hard doesn't mean they're not working Why “Kids these days” are different, and why we should embrace that But what about college admissions? Wellness as a concept has touch points within every area of our lives, making it a term that can be hard to define, and a goal that can be hard to reach. The most honest part of any journey is in those challenging moments when all you want to do is quit and ask “why is this happening to me.” So how do we know when to persevere or when it's time to embrace the shifts? In this episode, Liv gets down to the “truth truth” with impact investor and entrepreneur DelRae Messer. Tune in as DelRae shares her story of unlearning, trusting her gut, and re-rooting herself in service and contribution to others. Because we all have what we need to make the impact we desire. We just need to learn how to maximize it! KEY POINTS: - Do you validate your worth through achievements? - Are you enjoying the process, not just the end result? - How do you know when it's time to shift gears? - Why you need to get clear on YOUR values - What is impact investing and conscious capitalism? - The secret that changed the course of DelRae's life QUOTABLES: “I had a big identity shift and continue to understand that if we wrote our identity in what's next or in an achievement and that all goes away, we're left wondering who we are.” “So many of us are unhappy and unfulfilled because we don't really know what our values are. And if we did that, we'd be able to draw boundaries in such a different way and make decisions with so much clarity and certainty.” “It's little things like that, that I believe give women power. And it gives us an opportunity to say, listen, if equality isn't going to happen overnight, here's how we can expedite it. Women's vote for the dollar is really powerful.” GUEST RESOURCES: Follow DelRae Messer on social media! My guest today, Dr. DelRae grew up in a somewhat idyllic situation. She was raised in a small town on a farm with only 34 students in her graduating class. She was taught strong values, morals and had a work ethic that was solid. However, as a young adult, DelRae was forced to unravel some of her own limiting beliefs due to some really challenging situations. Outwardly, she appeared as though she had it all together. However, inside she was struggling. DelRae found herself working harder and harder to escape her emotions and some of what was going on in her life. Slowly she began to play what she refers to as the when….then game. When I reach this (level of income, meet this person, fill in the blank), then I will be happy. Perhaps you know this game well too? When DelRae found herself at rock bottom, she finally looked in the mirror and took responsibility for her choices and life. DelRae's desire is to give women permission to believe that they can design their life through their authenticity and who they are. She empowers them to believe that they have the power to overcome every limiting belief that has been interwoven into their system. Dr. DelRae Messer, DC is CEO of WellSpoken Lifestyle, a global health, well-being and beauty company that believes everyone deserves to experience a healthy, joyful and abundant life. She graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern Health Sciences University in 2007. Her passion for solving the health care crisis started as a young athlete in a rural farming community in North Dakota. After creating a sustainable lifestyle weight loss program in her Chiropractic office, she moved her business online, partnering with Isagenix International, a global holistic nutrition and well-being company. Before listening to this episode, consider: Do you have ways in which you cope with big emotions? When a big emotion surfaces, what action do you typically take? (eating, shopping, over-working, over drinking, numbing on social media just to name a few). How has your childhood, no matter how healthy or unhealthy, impacted some of the ways in which you cope? Do you fully accept who you are? Or do you spend a lot of time being who you think you need to be in order to be accepted? Do you have someone in your life who can hold your story and help you grow? Do you have the support of people who see your highest potential or are you hanging around people who only see you for your worst day? Are you currently going through a season that is stretching you? If you are, who are you becoming as you go through the process of learning something new and being stretched? What step will you take to begin to unravel the story of who you think you need to be so that you can actually begin accepting who you are. Servant leadership is all about focusing on others with no expectations of return. Leading with your heart isn't easy, but when you focus on lifting up others, you inevitably lift yourself in the process! In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T. S. Wood interviews servant leader, DelRae Messer, about identifying leadership styles and nurturing the vision in others. If you want to identify your leadership style, learn how to build a reliable team, and nurture your path along the way, this episode is a must-hear! You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... Servant leadership and how to lead from your heart Becoming a leader in every area of your life Questions to ask to identify your leadership style The evolution of leadership Inspiring others and nurturing yourself Letting go of comparing yourself to others Focusing on why you're doing something Practicing gratitude and appreciating where you are Servant leadership & collaboration Leading with your heart and your desire to impact others is the definition of servant leadership. Being a leader isn't based on your authority or experience; it's based on leaving people better than you found them. By collaborating with other people, your leadership style will continuously evolve. Have you ever considered that you have the opportunity to lead in every area of your life? In your home, family, finances, relationship, and even personal challenges, you can lead with positivity and tackle any problem with confidence. Becoming a better human will help you achieve your goals and help you build them surrounded by supportive people. Questions to ask to become an impactful leader If you don't think you're a leader, ask yourself why? What is your reasoning for thinking you're not doing enough? Is your thought process focused on success, status, or achievement? What is your definition of a leader? What character traits, core values, and respect do the leaders in your life have? When you learn how to define leadership accurately, you will start to write your own story about leadership. Watching other people succeed and helping other people become leaders can empower you and help you feel better about yourself. Breathing belief into other people can, in turn, breathe more belief into yourself. Becoming an effective leader is about developing leaders. Evolution always unfolds the same way. It will go up, down, and plateau, but you have to let go of the outcome and focus on the journey instead. Inspire action in other people but be sure always to nurture your path first. How to develop your leadership style Get uncomfortable, speak out, and share your story! Work with your team and relationships to develop a collective vision, so everyone is working towards the same goal. Set a goal just for yourself and stay in your lane to show others the power of belief in yourself. The fastest way to slow your growth is to compare yourself to others. Your path is unique, and the skills others have gained will never be the same as yours. Each person's journey is different, and success will vary, so be proud of what you've done and how far you've come. What are you struggling with right now? What are your most significant pain points, and what has benefited you along the way? People won't care how much you know until they know how much you care. A focus on servant leadership isn't something you do with any expectation of return; it's about doing things for others with no expectations. Focus on practicing gratitude for the little things while working towards the big. If you want to reinvent yourself, figuring out where to start can be challenging. In this episode of My Extra Mile, David T. S. Wood talks with DelRae Messer about the journey she's gone through to get where she is today. From a hard-working farm girl, to a track star, to a successful chiropractor, to a multi-million-dollar network marketing master, DelRae's journey is an inspiration. Do you want to reinvent yourself and figure out where to go next? Do you want to stop worrying about making enough money to pay your bills so you can live the kind of life you want? If so, then this episode is a must-hear! You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... Finding the value in hard work Celebrating your first try and not minimizing your progress Moving past failure to reinvent yourself Being rewarded for your work ethic Finding the right resources and mentors The power of failure Learning why you need to manage your money The value of hard work When it comes to figuring yourself out, it can be scary to rely on uncertainty. However, it's in that space of not knowing that you're able to make the most significant changes in your life! When you've truly accepted the value of hard work and put forth the effort to reach your goals, you CAN achieve them. Self-discipline is challenging, and showing up to do things, whether or not you feel like it, can seem impossible. But when you take ownership of your future and start small, you can begin implementing consistent habits that work towards your goal. Every time you start something new, take the time to celebrate your first step. As your identity changes and you accept who you're becoming, you will be well on your way to reaching your vision of success! The power of mindset and mentorship Whenever you start something new, a positive mindset can be hard to maintain when things get tough. But when you work at keeping yourself in tune with your goal, your focus will shift to the success of your dreams instead of the challenges you face. Taking steps to learn what you need to succeed is an essential piece to helping you unlock your potential. Education is a powerful component of your health and success. Working with mentors and reading books on the topics you care about can help you figure out where to go next. The power that failure can have on your future is a unique, although sometimes painful, tool. As you transition into your future, these lessons will power your self-belief and allow you to focus on figuring out where to go next. These lessons will then give you a clear vision of what is or isn't the right fit for you. Reinvent yourself for success What is your current situation? What things are holding you back and how can you learn from them to propel yourself forward? It's important to remember that It's not just about the success, it's about the journey that gets you there and the lessons you learn along the way. What does success look like to you? Do you want more financial independence with each paycheck? Do you wish you could give and contribute to the things that matter most to you? Learning how to manage your money effectively can help you create financial freedom. Without proper money maintenance, you could work yourself right back into the same financial hole you've been trying to escape. Put in the work, gain the necessary knowledge, and make sure that you never lose sight of your end goal. Action and consistency can lead to your success and your success is definitely worth the investment of your time! I’ll be honest, I have been targeted over the years by numerous companies like Arbonne, Isagenix, Beach Body, Body by Vie and the list goes on. Each message is beautifully crafted with a compliment and then a suggestion that I would be perfect for a product and an opportunity to have increased income. I’ve politely declined them all. With that being said- I feel the role I have created here on this podcast is to provide information, knowledge and tips on living your best life and so I wanted to explore the subject more and not be totally closed off to certain products. I was introduced to a beautiful and incredibly warm woman Dr. Delrae Messer a few months ago and knew she would be perfect person to explain, share and inform us on the world of Isagenix. Who better to learn from then one of their top leaders and performers who earned 6 figures within her first 6 months with the company. Having spoken to her I know its not about closing the deal but rather about building relationships and a community. Breifly, A former track and field athlete, Delrae went on to become a chiropractor while also creating and developing her own neutrocitcal line. She walked away from it all to join Isagenix. A single mother of 2, Dr. DelRae Messer, is CEO of Free Life Global, a global health and wellness company committed to helping people transform their lives through nutrition solutions. We hit it off within two seconds of meeting and felt like the energy in the room could change the world for the better- thats always a great feeling to have :)
DelRae was the developer of her own nutraceutical line, Dr. DelRae Detox & Weight Loss System and has been featured on ShopNBC with Suzanne Somers, Fit and Firm Magazine, Natural Muscle Magazine, Southwest Metro Magazine, local and regional radio, and contributes to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. DelRae transitioned from her online business and manufacturing her own nutraceutical weight loss system to choosing network marketing after hitting rock bottom emotionally, physically, and financially. After years marketing her products in the competitive online space and learning about the lack of integrity and quality of products, she was searching for a company to partner with to focus on what she loved most -- people. What drove her decision to choose Isagenix was the values of the company, quality of the products, vision of the owners and the impact she could make in people's lives. She was introduced to Isagenix through Angelike Norrie and was moved by her ability to connect with her WHY, which is to leave a lasting legacy for her daughters and create a movement of wellness with global impact. She now considers herself a Mompreneur and is committed to helping others achieve their goals and crate time and financial freedom in their lives through the business of network marketing. Isagenix has given her a vehicle to finally make the impact on people's lives she has always envisioned.
Today I am so excited to share with you a conversation I had with my good friend DelRae Messer. DelRae is a seven-figure earner in the network marketing industry. We both agree that every day is a new opportunity and that having a consistent morning routine is so important. Especially when running a home-based business. We’re also getting into how we enjoy the journey that we’re on and how we can become more aware of our surroundings. In this episode of the Zweig Letter Podcast we talk with Delrae Bennett from Time Counts. Delrae is one of the most in demand Deltek Training reps in the Design Industry. If she gets a hold of your company you will never be the same again.
DelRae Messer, Doctor of Chiropractic, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northwestern Health Sciences University in March 2007. DelRae was the developer of her own nutraceutical line, Dr DelRae Detox & Weight Loss System and has been featured on ShopNBC with Suzanne Somers, Fit and Firm Magazine, Natural Muscle Magazine, Southwest Metro Magazine, local and regional radio, and contributes to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. DelRae transitioned from her online business and manufacturing her own nutraceutical weight loss system to choosing network marketing after hitting rock bottom emotionally, physically and financially. Initially very skeptical of this business model, she was moved by the ability to prioritize her time around her girls, travel globally, little to no overhead, no employees and endless potential through online branding and e commerce. Her WHY is to leave a lasting legacy for her daughters and create a movement of women's empowerment, by helping women launch their passion and purpose in the online space and giving back globally as impact entrepreneurs. She now considers herself a Mompreneur and is committed to helping others achieve their goals and create time and financial freedom in their lives through the business of network marketing. She is currently working on writing a book about her journey from rock bottom to a million dollar global, virtual business and is working on a passion project in the nutrition space to alleviate food insecurity and children't health.
