The 3 "Longevity Drugs" That Fail the Data, and 4 Repurposed Ones Worth Considering Back with another solo episode, this one on Big Pharma! Metformin, rapamycin, and statins are three of the most trusted names in longevity, and none of them hold up the way you've been told. This episode breaks down the human data behind the drugs everyone assumes are safe, and reveals four lesser-known repurposed pharmaceuticals that might do more for your metabolism, mitochondria, and lifespan. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Dave walks through why metformin blunts the muscle-building signal your body needs from exercise, why rapamycin's stunning mouse studies fell apart in the 2025 PEARL trial, and why statins help one person in a hundred while draining the CoQ10 your mitochondria depend on. Then he lays out the yes list: tadalafil for vascular and brain health, SGLT2 inhibitors for metabolic and kidney protection, acarbose for gut and longevity markers, and low dose naltrexone for calming an overactive immune system. Host Dave Asprey is the father of biohacking, founder of Danger Coffee and Smarter Not Harder, and a New York Times bestselling author who has spent decades studying human performance, functional medicine, and the science of not aging. As co-founder of Unlimited.Life, a concierge longevity practice that runs over $50,000 in lab work per client, he pulls back the curtain on what the data actually shows once you strip away the marketing. This is essential listening for anyone serious about biohacking, longevity, anti-aging, human performance, brain optimization, and hacking their own biology with real supplements and functional medicine tools instead of guesswork. You'll Learn: Why metformin can cancel out the muscle gains from resistance training and drain your B12 for years What the 2025 PEARL trial actually found when rapamycin was tested in healthy adults Why statins carry a 100-to-1 harm-to-benefit ratio and quietly starve your mitochondria of CoQ10 How tadalafil supports nitric oxide, vascular health, and neuroplasticity at low daily doses Why SGLT2 inhibitors trigger ketosis-like metabolic effects and protect kidney function How acarbose changes gut bacteria and shows some of the strongest longevity data in mouse studies How low dose naltrexone modulates the immune system and reduces neuroinflammation How to talk to your doctor about using these drugs off-label for longevity instead of disease treatment Thank you to our sponsors! - ALP | Go to alppouch.com, code DAVE for 10% off. - Timeline | Visit timeline.com/dave and get up to 20% off when you subscribe and save. - Kinetic | Instead of pushing your system harder, Kenetik feeds your brain the ketones it craves to fuel calm clarity and steady focus. What if preparing for pregnancy started months before you ever saw a positive test? In this episode of Hormone Genius, Theresa and Jamie dive into the often-overlooked world of preconception health and why preparing your body for pregnancy shouldn't begin after conception—it should begin before. We start with the “fifth vital sign”: your menstrual cycle. Your period, cervical mucus, ovulation, and luteal phase can provide valuable clues about your reproductive health. Learn the three simple things to start watching in your cycle and why understanding your body's natural fertility signs can be such a powerful first step. Then we move beyond the cycle and talk about building a healthy foundation for both women and men, including: • Why giving yourself at least three months to prepare can be valuable • The role of whole foods and the Mediterranean-style approach to nutrition • Key nutrients to consider, including folate, iron, iodine, vitamin D, choline, omega-3s, selenium, and zinc • Why thyroid, metabolic health, hormones, and nutrient status deserve attention • Egg and sperm health—and why the months before conception matter • The potential roles of CoQ10, DHEA, and other targeted approaches for certain individuals • Why your partner's health matters just as much as yours • Sleep, exercise, stress, and environmental exposures • Simple ways to reduce unnecessary exposure to plastics, fragrances, and other household chemicals • Why dental and medication reviews belong on your preconception checklist • What to consider if you've recently stopped hormonal birth control Most importantly, we talk about hope without blame. If you've struggled to conceive, “just relax” isn't helpful—and fertility challenges deserve compassion, understanding, and appropriate care. After performing thousands of open-heart surgeries, Dr. Philip Ovadia recognized that the vast majority were preventable…if his patients had improved their metabolic health in the first place. In this episode, Dr. Chris Motley sat down with heart surgeon, author and podcaster Dr. Philip Ovadia to learn about the underrated relationship between insulin resistance and heart disease, and what you need to know to arm yourself at home and in the doctor's office.  If heart disease has been the number one killer for so long, isn't it possible that we're tackling it the wrong way? Dr. Ovadia's belief is that our emphasis on cholesterol has done us a disservice when it comes to heart health.  If you have a family history of heart issues, or a heart condition yourself, learn how Dr. Ovadia believes you can stay off his operating table.  In this episode you will learn: Why cholesterol and LDLs are not the real enemy of the heart and how sugar is the real culprit when it comes to heart disease.  Why 70 years of cholesterol-focused medicine hasn't reduced heart disease — and what the data actually shows about LDL's role in cardiac events The Craft Test: how Dr. Joseph Craft discovered in the 1970s that 95% of heart disease patients had insulin resistance — compared to only 50% with elevated cholesterol Why your fasting insulin level is the most important number most doctors never order — and how to get it tested for around $10 What exactly to ask your doctor about insulin resistance, and signs and symptoms for it: waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting glucose, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides. How stress plays a role in heart conditions, and how emotional support can make a difference in patients' outcomes. Why statin drugs can be problematic, in that they hide the symptom rather than attacking the root of the problem.  The single question to ask your doctor that will immediately reveal whether they understand metabolic heart disease: "Am I insulin resistant?" Why skin tags, belly fat, rounded face, low energy and high blood pressure are early warning signs of insulin resistance — years before chest pain or shortness of breath appear Dr. Ovadia's recommendations for diet and lifestyle changes to keep you off the operating table: processed food needs to go, and we must move more. If you have a desk-job, try a standing desk or simply get up and move around once an hour.  Meat is medicine. Dr. Ovadia advocates for the nutritional density of meat, yes, even red meat, and suggests that a low-fat diet has not prevented heart disease as promised.  Vitamin K2 and CoQ10 feed the mitochondria our hearts need for energy.  The effects of common viruses like strep on the heart valves. What role genetics plays in heart disease versus habits.  Want more of The Ancient Health Podcast? Subscribe to the YouTube channel. ------  Follow Doctor Motley! Cell Signaling, Mitochondria & the Foundation of Cellular Health with Dr. Gus VickeryWhat if the reason you feel tired, foggy, inflamed, or simply not quite like yourself begins much deeper than you think—at the level of your cells? In this episode of The Healthy CEO, Jason Wright welcomes back physician and Authentic Health co-founder Dr. Gus Vickery for a deep dive into one of the most fundamental—and often overlooked—components of health: cell signaling. Our cells aren't isolated little machines. They're constantly communicating with one another, responding to nutrients, hormones, inflammation, stress, toxins, the nervous system, and even our thoughts and environment. When those signals are clear and the cellular machinery is functioning properly, the body can adapt and perform remarkably well. But when those signaling pathways become disrupted, the effects can show up everywhere.Dr. Vickery explains how impaired cellular function can manifest as fatigue, brain fog, inflammation, anxiety, poor sleep, reduced cognitive performance, aches and pains, and diminished energy—sometimes long before someone develops a diagnosable disease.Jason and Gus also explore the crucial role of the mitochondria, the energy-producing structures inside our cells. Using the analogy of a car and its engine, they break down why mitochondrial efficiency isn't simply about producing more energy. The health and integrity of mitochondrial membranes can profoundly influence how effectively that energy-production system operates. The conversation then moves to another overlooked part of cellular health: the cell membrane.Rather than simply being a protective wall around a cell, the membrane is an active participant in communication and signaling. Its composition—including omega-3 fatty acids, phospholipids and other nutrients—can influence membrane fluidity, inflammatory signaling and cellular function.Dr. Vickery explains how testing can reveal imbalances in membrane composition, including low omega-3 levels, elevated saturated fats and deficiencies in important phospholipids. He also discusses why lifestyle and environmental factors appear to play such an important role in mitochondrial dysfunction, even when genetics influence an individual's underlying resilience. The episode concludes with the origin story behind Authentic Health's F2 formulation. Gus explains how years of clinical experience led him from simply supplementing omega-3s to thinking more comprehensively about phospholipids, fat-soluble nutrients, CoQ10 and the other components necessary to support membrane and mitochondrial health. The result was an attempt to simplify what had previously required numerous individual supplements into a more integrated foundational approach. In This EpisodeWhat cell signaling actually means and why it mattersHow cells communicate within tissues and throughout the bodyWhy disrupted signaling may appear as fatigue, brain fog, inflammation and poor moodThe difference between dysfunction and diseaseWhy mitochondrial dysfunction can occur before diagnosable diseaseThe "car engine" analogy for understanding mitochondrial healthWhy mitochondrial membranes are critical to energy productionHow damaged or dysfunctional membranes may reduce mitochondrial efficiencyWhy the cell membrane is much more than a protective shellUnderstanding membrane fluidityThe role of omega-3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHAWhy phospholipids such as phosphatidylcholine matterHow saturated fats and fatty-acid composition affect membrane structureGenetics vs. lifestyle in mitochondrial dysfunctionHow Dr. Vickery evaluates mitochondrial and cellular healthThe difference between conventional primary care and a more integrative diagnostic approachWhy nutrient insufficiency can exist even before obvious deficiency or diseaseThe importance of reducing harmful exposures while restoring essential nutrientsHow Gus's clinical protocol evolved into the F2 essential fats formulationWhy rebuilding cellular and mitochondrial health should be viewed as a long-term process rather than a quick fixKey TakeawayHealth doesn't begin with treating disease. It begins with giving the body what it needs to communicate, produce energy, repair itself and adapt appropriately. As Dr. Vickery explains, dysfunction can exist long before a physician can put a diagnostic label on it. Addressing foundational cellular health earlier may offer an opportunity to support better function before dysfunction becomes more deeply established. And that means thinking beyond symptoms and asking a more fundamental question:What do my cells actually need to function the way they were designed to function?About Dr. Gus VickeryDr. Gus Vickery is a physician with decades of clinical experience whose work has evolved from traditional primary care toward an integrative, precision-health approach focused on understanding and addressing the underlying drivers of dysfunction. His clinical experience and research into nutrient status, mitochondrial biology and cellular membrane health also informed the development of the Authentic Health foundational formulations discussed in this episode.Learn MoreTo learn more about the Authentic Health foundational products discussed during the episode, visit shopauthentichealth.com.The content provided in The Healthy CEO is for informational and educational purposes only and is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Failed IVF? Low AMH? High FSH? Told donor eggs? Book a free Functional Fertility Second Opinion before your next fertility decision → fabfertile.com Your cycle was cancelled on day eight or day nine. Someone called and said there were not enough follicles and it was not worth going ahead. At the follow up, you heard the words poor responder. What do you actually do with that? Change the protocol. Go again next month. Take three months off and work on your health. Get another opinion. Or accept that this is what your ovaries are capable of and stop looking for an explanation. This is where I see women get stuck, because if you are listening to this, you have already done a lot. Clean eating, the supplements, CoQ10, a methylfolate prenatal, vitamin D, no alcohol, no plastics, acupuncture twice a week, reading It Starts With The Egg. Almost nobody walks into IVF blindly. None of that answers the question in front of you now. What should I actually do before another retrieval? In this episode, I walk through the three questions I would want answered. None of them are more supplements, and none of them are another checklist. A cancelled cycle tells you how your ovaries responded to medication. It was never designed to tell you about the environment those eggs were developing in during the ninety days before the injections started. What I cover: what the cycle actually established and what it was never built to answer. What happened in those ninety days, including the full thyroid panel with antibodies rather than TSH alone, ferritin where we look at 80 to 100, high sensitivity CRP where we like it below one, and absorption. Your partner's side, including DNA fragmentation, sperm antibodies and the seminal microbiome across his seventy-four days. And the question to ask your fertility team before you agree to another retrieval: what exactly are we changing, and why? I am not telling you which protocol to be on. That is a conversation with your fertility team. I am also not saying any one of these markers explains a cancelled cycle. That is not the claim I am making. It is about whether the investigation was finished before the next decision. Let's kick things off by answering the big question: What exactly is KPV? KPV is a small peptide consisting of just three amino acids, lysine-proline-valine. It's a fragment of the larger peptide alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), which is involved in skin pigmentation and immune function. KPV is naturally found in the body and is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, but it has a more specific action on inflammation-related pathways that contribute to various health conditions. This peptide has been gaining popularity due to its potential in reducing inflammation, improving skin health, and supporting overall wellness, particularly in individuals with chronic conditions. In this episode of the Health Optimization Medicine Podcast, Dr. Scott Sherr, Dr. Ted Achacoso, Dr. Allen Bookatz, and Jodi Duval explore one of the most overlooked causes of declining cellular energy: the structural breakdown of the mitochondrial membrane. While many people invest in premium longevity supplements like NAD+, NMN, and CoQ10 to improve energy production, emerging research suggests these compounds cannot overcome a damaged mitochondrial membrane. The team explains how age-related phosphatidylcholine depletion weakens the mitochondrial lipid bilayer, causing proton leakage, oxidative stress, and reduced ATP production, even when the biochemical machinery appears intact. From membrane lipidomics and clinical metabolomics to phosphatidylcholine replacement and methylation support, this discussion reframes mitochondrial health through the lens of structural integrity rather than simply adding more fuel. Join us as we delve into: The Leaky Mitochondria Problem: Why declining phosphatidylcholine causes proton leaks that reduce ATP production and accelerate mitochondrial aging. Why NAD+, NMN & CoQ10 Sometimes Fail: How expensive mitochondrial supplements cannot restore energy when the mitochondrial membrane itself has become structurally compromised. Pathogenesis vs. Salutogenesis: Why Health Optimization Medicine focuses on building the biology of health instead of simply preventing disease. Clinical Metabolomics & Membrane Lipidomics: How measuring functional biomarkers provides deeper insight into cellular health than conventional blood tests alone. Phosphatidylcholine Replacement Therapy: Why rebuilding mitochondrial membranes with pharmaceutical-grade phosphatidylcholine, methyl donors, and chronobiology may improve bioenergetics. The Prevention Paradigm Shift: Why optimizing membrane integrity may become a foundational strategy for supporting healthy aging and cellular resilience. This episode is for you if: You are taking NAD+, NMN, CoQ10, or other mitochondrial supplements but still struggle with fatigue or poor recovery. You want to understand why mitochondrial membrane health may be more important than simply increasing energy substrates. First, let's break down what BPC-157 actually is. BPC stands for Body Protection Compound, and the 157 refers to the specific amino acid sequence that makes up this peptide. It's a synthetic peptide derived from a protein found in our stomach, specifically in gastric juice. This peptide has been shown to have a range of healing properties, particularly related to tissues like the gut, muscles, and tendons. The reason BPC-157 is getting attention in the realm of acid reflux and gastrointestinal issues is because of its potent regenerative abilities. Some studies suggest it could promote healing in the gastrointestinal tract, reduce inflammation, and improve the gut barrier—key factors for people dealing with acid reflux. Dr. Balcavage's new book, Is This The Hill?, releases at the end of July. Get on the waitlist to receive updates, exclusive bonus content, and early announcements at drericbalcavage.com/hill. Just because a supplement is designed to support mitochondrial function doesn't mean it's supportive for your body right now. In this final episode of Dr. Eric's mitochondrial series, he explores one of the biggest misconceptions in functional medicine: assuming that low mitochondrial function automatically means you need more mitochondrial support. Many people are told they have "mitochondrial dysfunction" based on lab testing and immediately begin taking supplements like CoQ10, carnitine, B vitamins, NAD precursors, methylene blue, or additional thyroid hormone. While these interventions can absolutely be helpful in the right situation, they aren't always addressing the real problem. Dr. Eric explains why mitochondria often reduce energy production as an adaptive response—not because they're broken, but because the body is responding to stress, inflammation, immune activation, poor oxygen delivery, under-fueling, or other protective signals. You'll learn why temporarily feeling better on a supplement doesn't necessarily mean you've corrected the underlying issue, and why increasing energy production without first restoring your body's capacity can actually create more stress over time. Instead of asking, "What supplement do I need?" Dr. Eric encourages you to ask a much more important question: Why are my mitochondria behaving this way in the first place? In this episode, you'll learn: Why mitochondrial support isn't always supportive The difference between increasing energy production and restoring resilience Why low mitochondrial output doesn't automatically mean deficiency How mitochondrial testing can identify patterns without explaining the underlying cause Why supplements may help temporarily but fail to produce lasting recovery How thyroid hormone, B vitamins, CoQ10, carnitine, and other "energy" supplements can increase demand on the body Why your physiologic state determines whether an intervention will help or create additional stress The importance of restoring capacity before trying to optimize mitochondrial function How State-Based Medicine™ approaches mitochondrial dysfunction differently If you've been told you have mitochondrial dysfunction, poor T4-to-T3 conversion, or low energy despite trying countless supplements, this episode will give you a new framework for understanding what's really happening—and why creating the right conditions for recovery is often more important than forcing more energy production. Need help understanding your symptoms? If you've been struggling with fatigue, thyroid symptoms, or chronic health issues despite trying multiple treatment approaches, schedule a complimentary Discovery Call to learn whether Dr. Eric's State-Based Medicine™ approach may be right for you.

Hosts: Ed Jones (Owner – Nutrition World) & Clint Powell A variety of topics all related to living a healthy life Presented by: Nutrition World www.nutritionw.com  Broadcasting from the Nooga Dentistry Studio www.noogadentistry.com Production of: Whitfield Media Group www.vitalhealthradio.com Title: Oral Peptides for Appetite & Weight Loss, What Your Phase Angle Means for Your Cellular Health [0:00:00] Intro, Events Tease of the episode's themes: Segment 2: peptides and weight loss. Segment 3: phase angle and cellular health. Lung Coach event at Nutrition World – August 22 Mobile screening for early lung cancer detection. Emphasis that stage 1–2 lung cancer is often curable, stage 4 is not. Calcium score used to estimate plaque burden in arteries. Ed notes ~12 reasons for plaque formation, while most physicians focus on ~3. Mentions Dr. Kurt Dearing's book “Beyond Cholesterol”, covering broader causes of plaque. Financial health talk – August 22 (~11 AM) Michael E, financial planner, giving a free lecture on financial stability. Ed's point: two major life disruptors are declining health and declining finances, and they influence each other. Health Fair – October 24 Described as possibly the biggest health fair in the region. Features reps, free samples, circus‑like but “happy” atmosphere. [0:04:10] Restaurant Talk Light banter about Ed being a restaurant connoisseur and creature of habit. Restaurant recommendations via Ed's employee Fallon: Second Amendment / Second American (downtown). Hello Monty (special but reasonably priced menu). Ed's oxalate/joint pain story: Eating Purely Elizabeth cereal (high in oxalates: chia and other ingredients) triggered severe return of joint pain Discussion that some “healthy” foods can be nutritious but not healthy for everyone, especially for those sensitive to oxalates. Ed references his free oxalate ebook at theholisticnavigator.com and believes oxalates contributed to: His double hip replacement. Feeling old from age 50–65. Mentions OxyGuard supplement (recently restocked) and using 4 capsules/day to help clear excess oxalates (not as a license to keep eating high‑oxalate foods). Quick shout‑out to local farmers from Virginia End Farm selling at Nutrition World on Wednesdays (12–4), and that they've listened to every show. [0:8:55] Tease: Phase Angle & Seca Machine Ed previews Dr. Kurt Dearing's later segment on phase angle: A single number reflecting resilience and proximity to optimal health.. Mention of Be Well Labs / BeginwithLabs.com – Body Blueprint: Advanced lab panel: 50+ predictive health indicators. Pitch: more than a standard physical, actionable results. Price example: $275 vs typical $500, highlighting savings. [0:13:35] Segment Intro: Peptides & Weight Loss Framing: Peptides as one of the hottest trends in 47 years of Ed's experience. Shift from grey‑market injectables to safe, effective oral peptide powders. Ed has seen impressive feedback on an oral peptide powder for weight loss in early customers. [0:13:47] What Are Peptides? Protein basics: Proteins are long chains of amino acids essential for structure, function, and regulation. Peptide defined: A shorter chain of amino acids broken off from a larger protein. Lego analogy: Individual Legos = amino acids. Tall tower of Legos = full protein. Kid knocks tower over; a small intact stack (~8 Legos) that falls off = peptide. Each peptide has a “fingerprint” determined by: Length (how many amino acids/Legos). Sequence (order: e.g., red–red–blue–blue vs red–blue–red–blue). Processing (how it was broken off or created). Clarified: peptides are not primarily for fixing protein deficiency, but more for targeted signaling effects in the body. [0:20:52] Yeast‑Derived Oral Peptide for Metabolism & Drug Comparisons Endogenous peptides: made naturally inside the body. Exogenous peptides: introduced from outside (drug injections, supplements). Ozempic / GLP‑1 drugs: Yes, Ozempic is a peptide. These drugs are lab‑made peptides made to mimic natural body peptides. Peptides are not synthetic drugs in concept; they are peptide structures the body uses, though drugs are engineered. Focus on Ancient Nutrition “Active Peptide for Metabolism”: Contains a yeast peptide derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae (brewer's yeast), broken from a larger yeast protein. Mechanism & effects: Influences hunger and satiety signaling: Increases leptin (satiety hormone). Decreases ghrelin (hunger hormone). Reported benefits: Reduced hunger and cravings (including boredom eating). Weight loss primarily from fat mass, not muscle mass. Comparison with GLP‑1 injections (semaglutide, etc.): Injections often cause muscle loss (e.g., “Ozempic face,” loss of facial muscle/fat). Yeast peptide research shows fat‑centric weight loss. Clinical results quoted: After 2 months, average daily caloric intake decreased by ~600 calories. Leads to meaningful weight loss, depending on baseline intake and muscle mass. [0:24:25] Dosing, Timing, Stacking & Safety Considerations How to take it: Once daily, typically in the morning to curb cravings throughout the day. Users report: easier recognition of fullness during meals. Stacking with cortisol peptide product: Ancient Nutrition also has a cortisol‑active peptide capsule for stress support. Same amount of yeast peptide per serving; research supports doubling the yeast peptide dose, so: You can use the metabolism powder + cortisol peptide together. Stress, cortisol, and weight: Chronic stress and high cortisol promote fat gain. Stacking stress support + appetite control may help body composition. Onset of effect: Reagan reports she personally noticed benefits around 2 weeks (quicker than many supplements that take 60–90 days). Cost & practicality: Approx cost around $50 for 30 days. Positioned as a cost‑effective alternative or complement to expensive injections. Side effects vs injectables: Reagan's hospital experience with GLP‑1 side effects (e.g., gastroparesis, impaired gastric motility, some requiring tube feeds or IV nutrition). Oral yeast peptide described as gentler, working with natural processes, not “forcing” the system. [0:30:09] Yeast Source, Candida Concerns & Usage Notes Yeast strain: Saccharomyces cerevisiae (not S. boulardii, and not pathogenic/candida). Clarifications: Will not cause yeast infections. Will not feed candida overgrowth. Taste & preparation: Chocolate flavor described as surprisingly good, even for those picky about chocolate. Temperature-sensitive: Must be mixed with cool liquid (NOT hot coffee/tea or hot beverages). Leaving it in high heat (e.g., hot car) can degrade activity. [0:36:03] Segment Intro: Phase Angle & Seca Scan with Dr. Kurt Dearing Discussion of: Seca medical‑grade bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) machine (~$12,000). It's commonly in hospitals/clinics, but rarely publicly accessible; Nutrition World and Be Well Labs both have one. Dr. Dearing's consult package: Includes consult + Seca scan + follow‑up visit + follow‑up Seca scan (~$195, promo if listeners mention the show). [0:37:35] What Is Phase Angle? (Deep Dive into Measurement & Meaning) What the Seca scan measures: Total body fat and visceral fat. Muscle mass (overall and by body segment). Phase angle (key focus). Phase angle basics: BIA sends low‑level alternating electrical currents through the body. The phase shift (time/angle difference) between current and voltage is measured. That phase shift = phase angle. Higher phase angle → healthier cell membranes, better cellular integrity, more muscle mass, better hydration. Lower phase angle → often malnutrition, chronic disease, frailty; can be used in dialysis, cancer patients, etc., to predict outcomes. Used as a longevity biomarker: Akin to an “EKG of your cells”. Can function as an early indicator for overall health trajectory, barring accidents Dr. Dearing's personal story: First scan categorized him as “bronze” on Seca's scale: Levels: None → Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum. Motivated him to increase strength training and eating healthy. Subsequent scan: improved from bronze → gold. Ed's anecdote: Friend and gym member Fred now tests as platinum, after sustained gym and nutrition efforts. Phase angle as a guide: If results are poor, that's a signal to upgrade the plan (diet, exercise, supplements). If phase angle improves (e.g., 4 → 5), it proves the plan is working, beyond just “feeling” better. [0:43:47] How to Improve Phase Angle (Practical Protocols) Key drivers and interventions: 1. Strength Training & Exercise Primary recommendation: resistance/strength training to build muscle mass. 2. Adequate Protein Ed's guideline: ~1 gram of protein per pound of body weight (men; women can often target ~¾ g per pound). Protein shakes often needed to hit targets. 3. Hydration & Electrolytes Proper cellular hydration improves phase angle. Maintain consistent fluid intake and electrolyte balance (sodium, potassium, magnesium). Avoid excessive diuretics/water pills. Dehydration causes phase angle to drop sharply. 4. Inflammation Control Systemic inflammation lowers phase angle and contributes to chronic disease. Tools: Anti‑inflammatory diet (Mediterranean‑style, high in omega‑3s). Omega‑3 fatty acids. Curcumin. Vitamin D optimization. Also includes sleep quality and stress management. 5. Foundational “Core Four” Supplements (Nutrition World concept) Covering: magnesium, zinc, vitamin D, B vitamins, etc., as baseline. 6. Targeted Add‑ons Creatine (supports muscle and cell energy). HMB (beta‑hydroxy beta‑methylbutyrate) – often paired with creatine. CoQ10 (mitochondrial and cellular energy). Phosphatidylcholine / BodyBio PC – to improve cell membrane integrity. [0:52:45] Closing Reflections Ed reads and comments on an article by Dr. Sircus about: Many doctors being “misaligned”: intellectually capable but no longer listening. Critique of: Over‑reliance on credentials. Under‑reliance on open‑mindedness and corrections. Emphasis that many clinicians are excellent listeners and deeply caring, but that institutional habits can discourage listening.  The post Radio Show / Podcast – July 26, 2026 first appeared on Vital Health Radio.

Ed's social media success (8.3 million views in 90 days). Joking about Ed doing a shirtless video and his bodybuilding competition and carb loading. Ed talks about Brian Johnson (longevity guru who spends ~$2M/year trying to live to 120): Johnson recently announced an autoimmune condition where his stomach is “eating its own stomach.” Ed admires his data and “Blueprint” protocol but believes two key factors in Johnson's regimen contributed to this issue. Ed teases that one factor is excess oxalate-rich foods; the other factor is left as a teaser for Ed's social media video. Ed announces a weekly farmers market at Nutrition World: Every Wednesday, inside the store, morning to mid-afternoon. Run by a young family with clean farming practices and minimal chemicals. Nutrition World does not profit from it; framed as a service to the community and support for small farmers. [0:05:04] – Upcoming Guests, Ed's E‑Books & Podcasts Ed previews two interviews for this episode: Dr. Glenn – testing and managing spike proteins. Dr. Curt Dearing – discussing his new book “Beyond Cholesterol” and non-traditional views on cardiovascular risk. Ed's e‑books: Six e‑books available on theholisticnavigator.com, including: Quality sleep Oxalates and pain “Are You Sick and Tired?” (diet & overall health) Oral health Immune system “Core Four” foundational supplements Podcasts: Ed mentions his Holistic Navigator podcast Clint promotes Nooga Podcasts (noogapodcasts.com) – a network of 20+ podcasts. [0:09:26] – Interview with Dr. Glenn: What Are Spike Proteins & Why They Matter Dr. Glenn defines spike proteins: Discovered in the 1960s, normally part of viruses from nature. Our immune system usually recognizes and dissolves natural spike proteins. For COVID-era, lab-made spike proteins: They are not recognized properly by the body. They can persist and are not efficiently eliminated. Mechanism (simplified): Spike proteins interact with ACE2 receptors (“locks” on the cell door). They unlock and open the cell doors, enter the cells, and damage/destroy cells from the inside. Clint notes he never heard the term “spike protein” before COVID; Dr. Glenn explains: Previously, they weren't an issue because the body just handled them. This is the first time in history we've dealt with lab-made spike proteins at scale. Dr. Glenn stresses this is not simply vaccinated vs. unvaccinated: mRNA vaccines were designed to produce spike proteins. But unvaccinated people with bad cases of COVID can also carry very high spike levels. His personal story: Got severe COVID in Jan 2020, pre-official naming: 2 weeks very ill on couch/bed. 3 months to feel “recovered,” but that was just the start of long-term issues. Over the next 3+ years, progressive cellular damage accumulated, leading to a broad set of symptoms. Dr. Glenn's symptoms when spikes were very high: Whites of eyes turned gray, with burning eyes all day (constant eye drops). Tinnitus (ringing in ears). Cyclical rashes under armpits. Burning nerves in quads; needed leg massage devices nightly to sleep. Gout attacks (kidneys not handling uric acid well). Venous congestion in lower left leg. Severe fatigue, getting sick frequently despite doing everything “right.” Developed endocarditis (inflammation of heart and valves); resting heart rate jumped from 55–60 to 80–105. Subtle Bell's palsy–type weakness on left side of face and brain symptoms. Laboratory findings: Test: SARS‑CoV‑2 spike protein antibody test (semi-quantitative). Thresholds: 1000: likely too high, potential cell damage. 5000: “a whole other level of danger.” His highest result: 11,694 (measured around Oct 28, 2023). Progress over four tests: 11,694 → 11,087 → ~9,950 → 8,905 (as of June 30, current year). Many symptoms have significantly improved, though: Heart rate better but not back to baseline. Tinnitus persists. Spike level is still high, so work remains. Symptoms can vary dramatically from person to person: Because spikes can enter different “doors” (cells/tissues) in different bodies. One person's profile may be mostly neurological; another's cardiovascular, etc. Dr. Glenn's clinic policy: He will not work with someone on issues like hormones, gut, or cognitive problems without a spike antibody test, because: Otherwise they may be “paddling upstream” against ongoing spike-related damage. Observation: Many patients say: “My doctor says my bloodwork is fine,” yet they feel terrible. Conventional doctors rarely order spike protein antibody tests [0:23:01] – Managing High Spike Proteins: Testing, Risk & Protocol Who Should Test & How: Ed notes frequent COVID infections (he's had it six times) and that many people have unexplained symptoms. Both Ed and Dr. Glenn suggest: Spike antibody testing should be considered for anyone with mysterious chronic symptoms, regardless of age or vaccination status. Testing can be done through labs like Be Well Labs (which Nutrition World works with) or other local options. Reference values: < 0.08 means essentially no exposure to COVID. Out of ~130 tests Dr. Glenn has reviewed, only one person was

Today, I want to talk about one of the most common misconceptions surrounding retatrutide and the recent Phase 3 results released by Eli Lilly. If you've seen the headlines, you've probably read that participants lost over 70 pounds or nearly 30% of their body weight. Those results are absolutely impressive and represent one of the most significant advances we've seen in obesity medicine. But there's an important detail that often gets overlooked when people see those numbers. Those results did not happen in a few months. The average weight loss reported in the study occurred over approximately 80 weeks, about a year and a half, with some participants followed for up to two years. Today, I want to have a conversation about something that is often missing from discussions about weight loss. We live in a world where people are constantly searching for the fastest way to lose weight. Every year there is a new diet trend, a new supplement, or a new social media influencer promising a shortcut to success. And because of this, many people begin their weight loss journey believing that the primary goal is simply to make the number on the scale go down. While losing weight may be one of the outcomes we are seeking, it is not the ultimate goal. The real goal is creating a healthier body that functions more efficiently, has more energy, experiences less inflammation, and is better equipped to support us throughout our lives.  Read the Full Episode Transcript: https://pepties.com/weight-loss-and-building-a-lifetime-of-wellness/ Related Links/Products Mentioned: Peptide Podcast Partners Page https://pepties.com/partners/ Buy Peptides online at BioLongevity Labs: Use our link and enter COUPON CODE: PEPTIDEPODCAST  at checkout to receive 15% off your total order:  https://go.biolongevitylabs.com/SH5C Momentous Supplements (we use Creatine, Vital Aminos, Whey Protein) https://crrnt.app/MOME/OqGQOxGA LMNT – More Salt, Not Less.  https://elementallabs.refr.cc/default/u/johnjavit Thorne Supplements (we use Omega-3 with CoQ10, Red Yeast Rice, Zinc) https://get.aspr.app/SH1KvW Organifi Creatine and Shilajit Gummies http://rwrd.io/rlbkajm?c MitoZen (methylene blue for Cognitive Function, Anti-Aging, Mental Clarity) https://www.mitozen.com/ref/cnlwiztypt/ For skin and hair health (Copper Tripeptide-1)  Visit Luminose by Entera for an exclusive offer for Peptide Podcast listeners!  ** Promo code PEPTIDEPODCAST at checkout for 10% off an order or 10% off the first month of a subscribe-and-save. ** https://www.enteraskincare.com/?rfsn=8906839.f93c72 NAD+ Push Patch: https://www.pushpatch.com/

Your Hormones Are Killing You: Oxytocin, FSH, and the Anti-Aging Protocol Most Doctors Ignore Your hormones are running your love life, your intuition, your longevity, and your brain, and most doctors are getting it completely wrong. Host Dave Asprey sits down with triple board-certified OBGYN Dr. Anna Cabeca to break down the clinical science of oxytocin, female pleasure, hormonal optimization, and why fixing your hormones can make your 70s the best decade of your marriage. Dr. Anna Cabeca is a triple board-certified OBGYN and fellow of gynecology and obstetrics, integrative medicine, and anti-aging and regenerative medicine, with additional board certifications in functional medicine, sexual health, and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. She is the bestselling author of The Hormone Fix, Keto-Green 16, and MenuPause, and has spent decades researching the clinical intersection of oxytocin, cortisol, estrogen, and progesterone on women's hormonal health, metabolism, and longevity. Her work on keto-green nutrition, vaginal and bladder microbiome health, and bioidentical hormone replacement has made her one of the most credentialed and clinically experienced voices in women's functional medicine practicing today. Dave and Dr. Anna break down the real pharmacology of oxytocin, including its role in muscle regeneration, cortisol suppression, mitochondrial signaling, and vagal tone optimization. They expose the toxic ingredients hiding in mainstream lubricants and vaginal hormone creams, including aspartame, parabens, and petroleum derivatives, and explain why the vaginal microbiome is a frontline organ for women's metabolism and anti-aging. They get into the neuroscience of orgasm, pineal gland activation, endogenous DMT release, and the neurochemical cascade behind peak altered states. Dr. Anna also breaks down the Women's Health Initiative disaster, the FDA's recent reversal on bioidentical hormone replacement, and why FSH is a critical and widely overlooked longevity biomarker. Urolithin A (Mitopure) and Mitochondrial Renewal--Muscle, Immune, and Skin Benefits: Jen Scheinman, MS, RDN, CDN, Director of Science Communications at Timeline details urolithin A and Timeline's branded supplement Mitopure. She describes urolithin A's discovery through pomegranate research and worm studies showing a 45% lifespan increase. She discusses human research including improved walking distance and clinical outcomes in muscle endurance and strength. Urolithin A is presented as supporting mitochondrial health by promoting mitophagy—recycling damaged mitochondria—distinct from other mitochondrial supports like CoQ10 and NAD precursors. They explain most people cannot produce enough urolithin A from foods because only 30–40% convert precursors via the microbiome and it would require about six cups of pomegranate juice daily. Dosing discussed is 500–1,000 mg/day via gummies, capsules, or powder, with effects developing over months. She reviews emerging research on immune aging, preclinical work on brain and neurodegenerative conditions, and topical urolithin A for skin.

Vitamin K2 (MK-7) and Coronary Artery Calcification: Insights from a 2-Year Trial: Nutritionist Leyla Muedin discusses a two-year randomized clinical trial in JAMA Cardiology from Maastricht University Medical Center reporting that daily vitamin K2 (menaquinone-7, MK-7) at 360 mcg slowed progression of coronary artery calcification (CAC) in 180 patients with confirmed atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and baseline CAC 50–400 Agatston units. Compared with placebo, consistent MK-7 use was associated with 29% lower CAC progression and 42% less arterial calcium mass progression, though CAC still increased in both groups; stenosis increases were numerically lower with MK-7 but not statistically significant. Leyla notes many participants were on statins and were smokers, highlighting that statins can raise CAC by stabilizing soft plaque via calcification. The trial suggests MK-7 may slow calcification in newer plaques, may improve arterial elasticity via matrix GLA protein activation, is inexpensive and safe, but clinical event reduction remains unproven; Leyla suggests considering MK-7 (possibly 360 mcg) with vitamin D, magnesium, and dietary measures.

In this special in-person roundtable recorded in Washington, D.C., the HOMeHOPe faculty sit down to decode one of the most important perspective shifts in modern health: the Holobiont. Moving away from the traditional, siloed medical model of "organology" (treating the heart, gut, and brain as isolated systems managed by different specialists), the faculty discusses why true health optimization requires viewing the human body as a complex, interconnected ecosystem of ecosystems. Join us as we delve into: The Holobiont Paradigm: Why you are not just a single organism, but a super-ecosystem made up of human cells and trillions of cooperating microbiota (including in your cornea, ureters, and gut). The Danger of "Organ" Medicine: How specializing solely in individual organs leads to clinical blind spots, and why common prescriptions like statins and PPIs can quietly disrupt cellular energy (CoQ10) and nutrient absorption system-wide. Metabolomics vs. Genetics: Why your DNA only tells you what might happen, while clinical metabolomics tells you exactly what is happening right now. The Cell Danger Response (CDR): How your metabolites act as powerful epigenetic signalers, turning genes on and off to regulate systemic health and recovery. The N-of-1 Future: Why large randomized controlled trials (RCTs) often fail by completely ignoring the gut microbiome, and why personalized, N-of-1 medicine is the only true path forward. This episode is for you if: You are tired of being bounced between specialists for interconnected symptoms like mood disturbances, fatigue, and chronic bloating. You want to understand the limitations of DNA testing and why measuring real-time metabolites is the gold standard for biohacking. You are a clinician looking to shift your practice from illness management to foundational cellular optimization. Together, Brad and Dr. Bucci explore how aging impacts the body's ability to produce nitric oxide, a critical molecule responsible for blood flow, exercise performance, brain function, and cellular health. The conversation dives deep into:Why nitric oxide production naturally declines with ageHow poor lifestyle habits accelerate that declineThe role of blood flow in energy levels, exercise performance, and recoveryThe differences between common nitric oxide supplements such as arginine, citrulline, and newer arginine-silicate technologiesWhy plant-based polyphenols and vegetables play a key role in supporting vascular healthBrad and Dr. Bucci also examine the importance of mitochondria—the tiny energy-producing structures inside every cell. Dr. Bucci explains how mitochondria respond to exercise, nutrition, and supplementation, while Brad shares practical strategies he uses with his over-40 clients to stimulate mitochondrial growth through strength training, cardio, and high-intensity interval training.Additional topics include:CoQ10 and ubiquinol for cellular energy productionAcetyl-L-carnitine and its role in fat metabolismThe benefits of strategic intermittent fastingWhy moderate stress can be beneficial for long-term healthThe importance of maintaining muscle mass as we ageToward the end of the episode, Dr. Bucci highlights a frequently overlooked area of aging: joint health. He explains why cartilage repair takes years rather than months and discusses the long-term research supporting glucosamine and chondroitin supplementation for maintaining healthy joints and mobility. This episode is packed with science-backed insights and practical strategies designed to help adults over 40 improve energy, preserve muscle, support cardiovascular health, and maintain an active lifestyle for decades to come.Key Takeaway: Aging may be inevitable, but declining energy and performance don't have to be. Text Dr. Lenz any feedback or questions 2025 Pediatric Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (CVS) Guidelines: A Brain–Gut, Migraine-Based Action PlanThe script explains updated 2025 guidelines for pediatric cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS), framing CVS as a disorder of gut–brain interaction and a “migraine equivalent,” with up to 82% of affected children having personal or family migraine history, shifting treatment focus to the central nervous system. It highlights links to nociplastic pain/central sensitization and higher rates of neurodivergence (ADHD, autism), supporting a holistic biopsychosocial approach and trigger management, especially consistent sleep. Key terminology (abortive vs prophylactic therapy, strong vs conditional recommendations) is clarified. The only strong recommendation is early abortive anti-migraine therapy (triptans like sumatriptan or high-dose NSAIDs like ibuprofen) during prodrome; conditional options include aprepitant, ondansetron, and early IV rehydration. Prevention starts with lifestyle and supplements (riboflavin, CoQ10), then escalates to propranolol, cyproheptadine, or amitriptyline; topiramate is generally avoided unless others fail. The guidelines address catamenial and “calendar time” CVS, distinguish CVS from cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome via six months of cannabis cessation, and emphasize creating a written green/yellow/red CVS action plan for home, school, and emergency care.00:00 Lost in the Fog01:56 CVS as Brain Gut Disorder04:19 Migraine Link Explained06:13 Nociplastic Pain and Sensitization08:48 Neurodivergence Connection10:50 Guideline Terms Decoded13:26 Abortive Rescue Plan17:18 Preventing Future Episodes22:05 Special Subtypes and CHS24:08 Action Plan Zones26:04 Holistic Approach and Wrap UpClick here for the YouTube Channel  Click here for the YouTube channel Support the showWhen I started this podcast and YouTube Channel—and the book that came before it—I had my patients in mind.
