In this conversation, Kelsa talks about finding a financial approach that aligns with her client's natural inclinations or goals, and highlights how important mindset and consistency is to achieving financial success. She delves into the personal aspect of money management, addressing fears and misconceptions that often hinder progress, and emphasizes the significance of personal buy-in to any financial plan.  Kelsa also alludes to the life changing benefit of working with a personal finance coach and comments that managing money is not a one-size-fits-all approach, which means most people need personal guidance and accountability to truly succeed in their journey to achieving financial independence. Ready to take the next step in gaining control over your money?  1. Download the “6 Secrets to Healthy Money Conversations” guide  Or 2. Oh, friends and neighbors, are we excited for this episode. We love education, and we love educators who love education, and we love a different take on education. This week's episode checks every single boxes as we talk to a Superintendent who is doing things just a little differently in his North Dakota community.    About Cory:   Dr. Cory Steiner is currently the Superintendent of the Northern Cass School District for the past 10 years. He has been an administrator for 17 years. In his current role, he has worked with a dedicated and passionate group of educators to shift their entire system to personalized competency-based learning. He has served on the Governor's Task Force on Innovation which has challenged North Dakota's education system to think differently. Northern Cass was a finalist for the Yass Prize and they received $500,000 to develop a Full-Service Community School.     Dr. Steiner believes every learner can change the world; therefore, we must provide a world-class education. It is a moral imperative we change our educational system to one which is uncompromisingly learner-centered. He also serves on the Education Standards and Practices Board, The Village Family Service Center, Rural Cass Special Education, and the Southeast Education Cooperative Board of directors. He is an adjunct professor for the University of Jamestown and the University of North Dakota. He is married to his wife, Jess, and has two children, DelRae (22), and Kelsa (19).   In this episode, we cover:  How Northern Cass is different What people love about it  Why things being hard doesn't mean they're not working Why “Kids these days” are different, and why we should embrace that But what about college admissions?   Links and Resources Mentioned: Nice Bike book: https://nicebike.com/about-the-book/ Northern Cass School District: https://www.northerncassschool.org/

If you listened in to episode 41 of the podcast (link below!), you know that I recently made a big mistake in my business. Last week I talked about what that mistake was and this week I want to share what happened as a result of that mistake. It's difficult to be vulnerable in public, especially since what I discovered as I reflected on my mistake was that I had lost sight of my core principles. I was so absorbed in scaling my business that I unwittingly moved away from focusing on my clients. My mantra of 'quality over quantity' got overshadowed by an increasing obsession with numbers and rapid expansion. This shift was gradual, almost imperceptible, but its ramifications were monumental.I'm not proud of this, but I think it's important to share as you build your own coaching practice. I want you to learn from me.Thankfully, I had a moment of clarity and I can now look back and realize that my most valuable lesson in all of this was understanding the difference between striving for excellence and seeking external recognition. We all experience failure at some point in business, but not everyone talks about it. And when I've heard some of my favorite podcast hosts and entrepreneurs share their own journey of overcoming specific mistakes and failures, it's months or years later. They have the time to learn from their failures and reflect on them, gaining clarity and insights about both their mistakes and solutions. That's valuable information. But what I rarely hear is talk about failure when it first happens - those moments when you don't have clarity or the wisdom of hindsight yet. As a financial coach, you may have some perfectionist tendencies like me. If that's the case, failure likely looks and feels pretty painful. I know because I experienced a massive mistake just recently. I had some hyper-critical, negative thoughts initially that I had to work through before I could even think about solving the predicament I found myself in. When failure first happens, what goes through our minds and how can we coach ourselves through it? What's the very real and sometimes ugly experience that so many of us face when it comes to making mistakes as entrepreneurs? In this episode, we're going to explore the initial realization of failure so we can navigate it better in the future. When it comes to the mindset around posting social media, especially video content, there are two mindset shifts that financial coaches need to make. The first major mental shift that you have to make is being able to take financial concepts, which generally come pretty easy to us, and make them easy to understand for our ideal clients.Imagine when you, coach, are stuck in a super boring seminar or social media live stream where you scream at your computer to, "JUST GET TO THE POINT!!"Our ideal clients can easily feel the same way and will turn off your content before it even gets to the good stuff. The second mental shift you have to make is that "done is better than perfect." Your ideal clients are 100% not critiquing the content you put out as much as you are. We tend to get into this vicious cycle of really procrastinating to put any content out because it's not "perfect enough", so we never put out any content. In this episode, Kelsa addresses both of these mindset shifts by sharing with you an Instagram live that she did, directly addressing her ideal clients on the financial coaching side of her business. Notice how she communicates coming from her ideal client's perspective. Also, notice how she talks from the heart, not worrying about flubs or making mistakes. “Money affects all parts of our life if we don’t have a handle on it,” says Kelsa Dickey, CEO & Founder of Fiscal Fitness. Kelsa has made it her life mission to help people get control over their finances, so they can lead more fulfilling and healthier lives. Kelsa learned from her parents that your level of life satisfaction is less connected to how much money you make than it is how you choose to spend it. While her mother was frugal and perpetually stressed about funds, her father spent liberally on things that were deemed “popular” and “trendy.” At the end of the day, neither of her parents was truly fulfilled. Kelsa admits that she, too, has undergone her fair share of money blocks while building her company to its current level of success. For example, the belief that making too much money in her business would make her kids entitled initially prevented her from reaching her full potential. However, Kelsa has since come to understand the strength of her personal values, which have informed how she chooses to spend her money, how she runs her business, and how she interacts with her family. In fact, a few years ago, she and her husband created the “Dickey Family Creed,” which reminds them and their two daughters to embody their fundamental values no matter what the situation. Tune into this week’s episode of Get Rich Without Being a Bitch to learn more about Kelsa’s perspective on what it means to live richly and how she incorporates this outlook into her own life. Plus, you won’t want to miss out on hearing Kelsa’s “Dickey Family Creed,” which may inform how you and your family choose to keep sight of your morals through thick and thin! Join Kelsa and host Vanessa Shaw to learn more about creating the life you truly want to live. Quotes “Money affects all parts of our life if we don’t have a handle on it. And so, I wanted to help people get control of their money, so that they could actually focus and give their attention to things that really matter in life.” (3:46-3:59) “Money by itself is not the most important thing. You can have millions of dollars and be miserable….If you, however, have money and are being intentional with it and you are using it in a way that brings you more fulfillment in life and putting it behind what’s most important to you...then it can actually boost your satisfaction overall. It can actually be a tool that helps you accomplish your dreams and live your life exactly as you want to as opposed to not having tons of options.” (5:17-5:53) ”I don’t think that the way business works is that it’s ‘learn and then do.’ I think that it’s ‘do and then learn.’” (12:15-12:21) “Your stress or your satisfaction in your life with money is not actually connected to how much you’re making. It’s connected to how you are spending it.”  (18:39-18:48) “I am a financial coach, I do this work for a living, and I have money blocks, too….Mine was that if I make too much money in my business, then my children will grow up spoiled, entitled, not nice kids.” (29:39-30:02) “As one control enthusiast to another...done is better than perfect because I think if we’re so focused on it being perfect, you will not get your dream out there.
