Oh, friends and neighbors, are we excited for this episode. We love education, and we love educators who love education, and we love a different take on education. This week's episode checks every single boxes as we talk to a Superintendent who is doing things just a little differently in his North Dakota community.    About Cory:   Dr. Cory Steiner is currently the Superintendent of the Northern Cass School District for the past 10 years. He has been an administrator for 17 years. In his current role, he has worked with a dedicated and passionate group of educators to shift their entire system to personalized competency-based learning. He has served on the Governor's Task Force on Innovation which has challenged North Dakota's education system to think differently. Northern Cass was a finalist for the Yass Prize and they received $500,000 to develop a Full-Service Community School.     Dr. Steiner believes every learner can change the world; therefore, we must provide a world-class education. It is a moral imperative we change our educational system to one which is uncompromisingly learner-centered. He also serves on the Education Standards and Practices Board, The Village Family Service Center, Rural Cass Special Education, and the Southeast Education Cooperative Board of directors. He is an adjunct professor for the University of Jamestown and the University of North Dakota. He is married to his wife, Jess, and has two children, DelRae (22), and Kelsa (19).   In this episode, we cover:  How Northern Cass is different What people love about it  Why things being hard doesn't mean they're not working Why “Kids these days” are different, and why we should embrace that But what about college admissions?   Links and Resources Mentioned: Nice Bike book: https://nicebike.com/about-the-book/ Northern Cass School District: https://www.northerncassschool.org/

It's possible that there was a benefit from the lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic: When children had to join school remotely from home, many parents finally saw what their schools have been teaching them. Rather than learning how to be free thinkers and responsible adults, many children are being indoctrinated with woke political propaganda. Unfortunately, much of this is by design, and this flaw in the modern education system goes back to the beginning. It was the break between classical education and modern education. In this episode of "Crossroads," we'll discuss the matter. Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and guests, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.    ⭕️

"This is not going to solve the problem," Rebecca Pitkin, the executive director of North Dakota's Education Standards and Practices Board, said on this episode of Plain Talk. She was talking about her board's recent request of Gov. Doug Burgum to issue an emergency order setting aside some teacher licensing requirements so that student teachers can run classrooms without supervision. "This is a band-aid," she told me and my co-host Chad Oban (full disclosure, his day job is at North Dakota United, the state teacher and public worker union). Pitkin answered questions about how student teachers might react to being asked to run classrooms without oversight, and why more hasn't been done prior to this immediate crisis to address what is a long-standing problem in our state. I also asked Pitkin about this tweet from Rep. Zac Ista, a Democrat from Grand Forks, who complained in a post on X that the ESPB board opposed his proposal to remove relicensing requirements from long-term teachers. Also on this episode, we discussed the latest from Burgum's presidential campaign, including the mystery donor to a Burgum-aligned super PAC, and some fake news from Fargo television station Valley News Live about a Trump attack on Burgum that never actually happened. Advocates believe Massachusetts may finally set sex education standards

For 12 years, sex education advocates in Massachusetts have been pushing for a comprehensive bill to become law. But for 12 years, that proposal has floundered. The Healthy Youth Act would standardize sex education in schools that choose to participate. Right now, sex education is “completely unregulated” in Massachusetts, said Jaclyn Friedman, chair of the Healthy Youth Act Coalition. “In some school districts, they have policy on the books. Worcester and Boston provide, for example, great sex education that actually will be perfectly in line with the Healthy Youth Act when it passes,” Friedman told Under the Radar. “But in many communities, there is nothing on the books at all. And so, you might get no sex and relationships education. You might get really harmful propaganda that teaches shame about girls and sexuality, LGBTQ students and sexuality. You might get misinformation, or you might get good sex education. It's completely the luck of the draw.” But now supporters think the bill could pass in coming months — especially with Gov. Maura Healey in office. “We have a strong supporter in Healey's administration,” said Jennifer Hart, vice president of education, learning and engagement at Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts. “Massachusetts is a trailblazer in all of these areas and now in a post-Roe landscape, we really need to double down on making sure that our young people have all the information that they need to be able to delay sex, to decrease unintended pregnancy, to improve their own health overall.” Hart said all the pieces of the puzzle are coming together, and that she is optimistic Massachusetts will soon implement sex ed standards. Even if the bill stalls, change may be on the horizon. Healey has recently proposed new updates to Massachusetts' health education framework that could bypass the state Legislature. The draft framework will be reviewed by the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education on June 27. If the draft is approved to be sent out for comment, the public will have 60 days to weigh in. GUESTS Jennifer Hart, vice president of education, learning and engagement at Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts Jaclyn Friedman, chair of the Healthy Youth Act Coalition and executive director of Educate Us, a sex education advocacy organization

NATIONAL SAFE SCHOOLS SUMMIT, REGISTERMost states have adopted standards which include these basic provisions: Medically Accurate, Healthy, and Age Appropriate. We have found these standards are not followed by most CSE curriculums. Healthy is inaccurately defined, encompassing questionable medical treatments for mental health issues without parental permission. Medical accuracy is a subjective and often underrated requirement often lacking in the whole picture.   Because Age-appropriateness can only be determined best by parents, these lessons should only be offered by written parent permission. Senate Bill 818 added personal health and safety education standards in K-5, and made comprehensive health education more inclusive in grades 6-12.  School districts do not have to adopt the voluntary standards unless they are teaching comprehensive sexual health education. Parents can choose to opt out.Course material and instruction help students learn about concepts like consent. It develops  self-advocacy skills for effective communication with parents or guardians, health and social service professionals, other trusted adults and peers about health and relationships. The Illinois State Board of Education developed and adopted these new voluntary learning standards. The Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to affirming that sexuality is a natural and healthy part of life. SIECUS develops, collects, and disseminates information, promotes comprehensive education about sexuality, and advocates the right of individuals to make responsible sexual choices.[1] It is acknowledged as the institutional voice of these concerns and a pioneer of the comprehensive sex education program.[2]Planned Parenthood is behind all of the efforts to embed K-12 Sexuality Education in Public School. SIECUS, based in Washington, D.C. was founded in 1964 by Mary Calderone, medical director at Planned Parenthood, to challenge the American Social Hygiene Association's sex education program. https://siecus.org/resources/national-sexuality-education-standards-first-edition/https://siecus.org/resources/national-sex-ed-standards-second-edition/Support the show

RNIB Connect Radio's Allan Russell spoke to Caireen Sutherland from RNIB to learn more. #RNIBConnect Image shows the RNIB logo. Today I am interviewing my good friend, Lyndz Marie, as she shares her journey to the decision of homeschooling. It didn't come without second-guessing, bumps, fighting against her own expections as well as undoing damage to her son that was caused by the school system. This episode will challenge how you approach raising your family, following convictions, and rising above the standard that is set by either you or the world. Warning, you will  likely have your toes stepped on a bit but we address if you feel offended by our words - is it an offense that needs to be sat in for a bit or ignored? We discuss if it's actually possible to work full time and homeschool as well as address those questions such as "what about my child learning at the same level as public school students?" and "isn't a private school a better choice than public?" So. many. conversations within this interview that you may have to listen a few times to take it all in.Find Lyndz Marie at her InstagramWatch the Children of Caesar (Part 1) mentioned todayJoin our little facebook community group here.I am also on Facebook, Instagram, and would love to hear from you via private message or email to courtney@imperfectlypollyanna
