In this episode of The Non-Profit Exchange, I had the pleasure of speaking with Brett Herbeck, the District Governor of Rotary District 7570, which spans parts of Virginia and Tennessee. Brett shared his deep passion for Rotary and its mission of service above self, highlighting how the organization has been a significant part of his life since childhood. He discussed the importance of community involvement and the role Rotary plays in fostering connections among diverse individuals who share a commitment to making a positive impact. Brett elaborated on Rotary's seven areas of focus, which include promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies, and protecting the environment. He emphasized that these efforts contribute to creating peace in our communities and beyond. We also explored how Rotary is evolving to be more inclusive and accessible, breaking down barriers to membership and adapting meeting formats to fit the needs of modern members. Brett encouraged listeners to find their local Rotary club, emphasizing that everyone is welcome and that there are various ways to engage with the organization. Towards the end of our conversation, we discussed the upcoming District Conference in April, where members will gather to learn, share, and celebrate the impactful work being done across the district. Brett's enthusiasm for Rotary and its mission was truly inspiring, and I hope this episode motivates others to get involved in their communities through service. Learn more about your ad choices. Christine Giangrasso (Highland Rotary), 2018-19 District Governor for Rotary District 7210, reports to RadioRotary on her year of traveling to 55 of the 56 Rotary clubs in the 8 counties that make up the Lower Hudson Valley District (Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, and Ulster). DG Giangrasso is proud of her record of adding a new club, a new Interact, and 2 new Rotaract clubs to the District during her year as governor. A major theme of her year was enlisting local Rotary clubs in the fight against heroin addiction and overdose. She also was able to champion women’s place in Rotary with a conference that featured Sylvia Whitlock, the first woman to lead a Rotary club (1987) and honored some of the women who make District 7210 effective. In today's episode, host Dave Funk shares his thoughts on the importance of consistency in leadership. Fruitful ministry is not developed out of big moments, or ad hoc planning; it comes by making innumerable, small consistent decisions over a long period of time. BC/Yukon leaders, don't forget to register for District Conference, March 5-7. Check out Carey Nieuwhof's blog, as mentioned in the intro: https://careynieuwhof.com

The challenges of Christian leadership change from generation to generation and season to season. Understanding the times and culture is crucial to developing the strategies necessary to reach people. David Kinnaman's research is providing us with some of that understanding. Kinnaman was a recent guest at the 2017 District Conference of the BC/Yukon District of the PAOC. Today's episode is a recording of his second session with the conference. Public opinion of Christians and Christianity has changed over the years...and not for the better. The average person sees Christianity as irrelevant (at best) and extreme. This is the topic of David Kinnaman's newest book, Good Faith. Kinnaman was a recent guest at the 2017 District Conference of the BC/Yukon District of the PAOC. Today's episode is a recording of his first session with the conference. Learn more about David Kinnaman's work with the Barna Research group at https://www.barna.com/
The audio quality of this podcast gets much better after a few minutes. I promise. Have you ever attended a District Conference? What's the point beyond voting on amendments to the amendments of the resolution on whether or not we should raise one hand or two during worship? Is there any reason for global workers to go to their district conference? This week on the podcast, Sheldon and his awesome co-host Anna attend the BC and Yukon District Conference. Along the way they attend a banquet (free food!) bump into a few familiar faces and make some new friends as well. If you've ever wondered what the director of GlobalEd is up to or how the author of the Wellness Plan and Sheldon are connected or even who Rebecca Strafforelli is, then pour yourself a cup of coffee and give this episode a listen. BTW...This episode is 100% Matt Janes free as he's over THERE on family vacation somewhere in Europe.
