The first Double Gameweek of the season proved an underwhelming experience for FPL managers as heavily-backed Arsenal drew both their fixtures
Following the weekend' FA Cup football and last night's 5th round draw Suj and James revaluate the outlook for Chip usage for the rest of the season, and though current projections remain unchanged there's lots that could change in the coming weeks and that may force many FPL managers to move away from the current template strategy. What will happen to the Manchester City v Crystal Palace fixture? Could Gameweek 33 be the only remaining Double Gameweek? Should Bench Boost be used now or held for later? It's all covered, including alternative 'out' chip strategies if at short notice Gameweek 32 would look bad for a Wildcard followed by a Gameweek 33 Bench Boost, why certain fixtrures could be forced into certain weeks, if non European teams could have postponements go into random weeks and more, including why the next big event that could alter the landscape is the scheded April TV selections... The first part of Double Gameweek 26 is complete, ahead of a weekend of FA Cup action, and it was one that left managers with a few questions to answer
Ahead of tonight's Double Gameweek 26 deadline James is joined by Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle and Fulham fan Lewis James on Clash of the Correspondents to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of tomorrow's meeting at The Etihad. And there's lots of interest for FPL! City kept their title hopes alive with a huge late victory at Anfield on Sunday, in which Erling Haaland hauled. Is it right to overlook him for the armband this week? The visitors have an awful record against City. Fulham have lost their last two but can feel aggrieved to have done so and they were previously on a great run. They have a beautiful quartet of fixtures heading to the blank from GW28. And City have agreat five fixtures starting now. All the key FPL assets covered including Guehi, O'Reillly, Semenyo, Anderson, Wilson and Jimenez. Plus, what's happened (again) to Phil Foden and what might we expect from Fulham's signing form this weeks opponents, Oscar Bobb? Following a gameweek where the average points was finally over 50, we now turn our attention to Double Gameweek 26, which has just been confirmed with Arsenal's victory over Chelsea in the EFL Cup semi-final. What, then, is the best Arsenal triple-up—and is there an “objective” answer, or is it more so team dependent? To what extent should managers modify their teams if they already have a trio of Arsenal players that doesn't align exactly with their ideal triple-up? A question of marginally secondary importance: just why is Jacob so bullish on Mateus Mané?We also have a look at which assets in each position might be worthy of being considered “season keepers” from now on, and discover that the number might be no more than three or four. Although Haaland's recent performances have been poor, we're probably not at the point of selling him before the season's end (yet). But we think managers would be wise to at least entrust their armband with someone else for the near future—Jacob, for one, is poised to finally free himself from Erling's shackles and might just get a new lease on life in the process.
In this video I take you through the latest news, hot-topics and answer your FPL questions ahead of Gameweek 25. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Triple Arsenal defence is a differential play that could bring huge rewards and this is why.
A very enjoyable weekend of football in the Premier League that included comebacks, momentum shifts and late drama and some FPL haulers too in the likes of (substitute) Joao Pedro and the Liverpool pair of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike. Pedro and other Chelsea assets will take on greater appeal should they overturn their Carabao Cup deficit at Arsenal. The team that progresses now has a confirmed Double Gameweek in 26 and that may influence forthcoming moves with both have attractive fixtures this weekend too. But Chelsea were given a big scare against West Ham, The Blues completed one of a number of comebacks this weekend, as did Liverpool against Newcastle and Tottenham showed fight to come back from two down against Manchester City, who slipped further behind Arsenal. Whilst Manchester United let their own two goal advantage slip, but still won, with Bruno Fernandes again returning well for those who captained him, and he's likely to be even more popular this forthcoming weekend. All the games covered as usual and all the key FPL points deliberated. Let's talk about the Double Gameweek 26 announcement. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━
It's that time of year, where January arrives, the FA Cup 3rd round has gone & the Carabao Cup Final can be projected. That means for FPL managers it's time to think seriously about what to do with chips. Suj and James discuss the calendar for the rest of the season, understanding permutations and fixture projections to give an overview of when might be best to save chips for. Wildcard now or save it? In this podcast I talk through potential Blank and Double Gameweeks for the first half of the FPL 2025/26 season. Talha
We're through the first 10 matches of Double Gameweek 33 and the points have been hard to come by so far, as popular players experience quiet weeks
Suj and James discuss the 10 games played so far in Double Gameweek 33 where despite ther teams doubling scoring twelve and conceding only once it felt like the majority of FPL managers missed those who hauled. There's a heavy focus on looking ahead with the Blank Gameweek next, with advice for those on Free Hit, those buying to keep and hold and which assets should be sacrificed who have just had doubles. Captaincy is covered with a clear stand out (spoiler: it won't surprise), and there's particular focus on Fulham, Newcastle and Wolves assets as they get set to face the bottom three. All the games covered with thoughts on Pep's latest tactical tweak as Man City left it late against Everton, how rampant Aston Villa saw off Newcastle and there was important victories too for Brentford and Forest in their bid to reach Europe; and both of those clubs will featuring heavily in the minds of Fantasy managers in the weeks to come, despite them meeting each other next. The UCL fixtures are concluded and we have doubles for Arsenal, Villa, Palace and Man City! KDB is tempting us, who do we captain and which Arsenal/Villa players are safe from rotation? We discuss all of these and more in the Double Gameweek 33 FPL pod ━━━━━━━━━━━━━
On the first of two Clash of the Correspondents this week James is joined by Ipswich Town fan Paul Gaught-Allen and Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of Sunday's Double Gameweek 33 meeting at Portman Road. Arsenal assets will be popular this week for FPL managers, they are faced with arguably the most attractive fixtures in the Gameweek, but with the Champions League now clearly the priority with the Premier League title chase gone are they actually worth investing in? There's particular concern for those looking at long-term investment but also cautious warnings about the immediate Double, which those intending to go Mikel Arteta with the Assistant Manger Chip or/and Bulayo Saka with the captaincy should take particular note of. Should it be double defence or double attack for Free Hitters? There's discussion on all the important Arsenal FPL assets. Ipswich may not appeal for now, but they may well have the best final 4 fixtures, could the likes of Liam Delap appeal for late Wildcarders? And what are the prospects for 3.8 defender Ben Johnson, a scorer at Chelsea at the weekend, and playing on the right of midfield? And, there's discussion on The Gunners chances in the Champions League, what may happen to Ipswich next season and what can bridge the gap between The Championship and the Premier League.
