In this week's episode of The Hog Pod, we sit down with Arkansas forward Nick Pringle for a candid conversation about his journey to Fayetteville and the mindset behind his role with the Razorbacks. From being cut as a kid, to JUCO and now playing for John Calipari. Pringle opens up about setbacks, belief, and the people who shaped him.
This week on Style DNA I go on a style journey with the brilliant British British designer and creative director Clare Waight Keller — a woman whose career has quietly shaped modern fashion as we know it.From working with Calvin and then Ralph, to leading Chloé and Pringle to becoming the first female Artistic Director at Givenchy, where she reopened couture and designed the wedding gown for Meghan Markle - Clare's career is nothing short of extraordinary. She now sits at the helm of women's and menswear at Uniqlo, overseeing a $23 billion global business. We talk about being “given the keys” to Givenchy, immersing herself in Hubert de Givenchy's archives, and the responsibility of reviving couture in a modern world. She shares what it felt like to meet him in Paris shortly before he passed away — a moment that clearly left its mark.Of course, we revisit the morning of the royal wedding — the precision, the pressure, the veil, the steps… no rehearsal, just instinct and absolute focus. But equally fascinating is Clare's upbringing in Birmingham, learning to sew alongside her mother, sourcing fabrics from the local rag market, and how that early discipline shaped everything that followed. Her own Style DNA? “Tailored. Tonal. With a touch of femininity.”That tension between sharp structure and romantic softness feels very modern woman to me.We also discuss motherhood in a high-pressure industry, why there are still so few female creative directors, sustainability as longevity (not trend), and the power of a great coat — she owns over 60.Elegant, intelligent, generous and quietly measured — this is a conversation I absolutely loved.I hope you enjoy it.

Valentine's Day may be all about couples, but this week's episode celebrates heartbreak, breakups, and proudly being single as a Pringle.Part 1: Getting dumped is the push psychologist Jiawen Huang needs to step outside his comfort zone.Part 2: While completing her PhD in neuroscience, Leslie Sibener is determined to fix her relationship. Jiawen Huang obtained his PhD in Psychology from Columbia University, where he studied how prior knowledge provides a scaffold for prediction and memory. He grew up in China, and did his undergrad at University College London where he scanned people watching movies in fMRI scanner. In his free time, he can be found dancing salsa, practicing Spanish, and whittling wood carvings, all of which he started doing this past year.Leslie Sibener is a neuroscientist and science communicator based in New York City. She received degrees in Neuroscience and Creative Writing from Johns Hopkins University, and her PhD at Columbia University where she studied movement and motor learning. Now as a postdoctoral fellow at Rockefeller University, Leslie researches the mechanisms that allow specific memories to be stored for long term memory in the brain, while others are forgotten. She has always been passionate about sharing science outside of the lab. This has manifested in being the group leader the science writing group NeuWrite, a team member of Stories of WiN, and founder of Scientist on the Subway. “If you wait for perfection, you give yourself nowhere to start.” — Dr. Zorana Ivcevic PringleThis episode explores perfectionism, visibility, and why waiting for the “perfect” version can halt creativity altogether. I'm joined by Dr. Zorana Ivccvic Pringle, Senior Research Scientist at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, and author of The Creativity Choice. Zorana shares a science-backed definition of creativity that moves beyond talent or artistic identity. We dive deeply into the role of questions in the creative process. She explains why first ideas are often the most obvious and how developing 1.0 versions require time, effort, and openness to change. This conversation is for anyone who feels stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to begin. Zorana reminds us that creativity is not about waiting for inspiration, it's about choosing to engage, asking better questions, and staying with the creative process. Ahead of tonight's Double Gameweek 26 deadline James is joined by Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle and Fulham fan Lewis James on Clash of the Correspondents to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of tomorrow's meeting at The Etihad. And there's lots of interest for FPL! City kept their title hopes alive with a huge late victory at Anfield on Sunday, in which Erling Haaland hauled. Is it right to overlook him for the armband this week? The visitors have an awful record against City. Fulham have lost their last two but can feel aggrieved to have done so and they were previously on a great run. They have a beautiful quartet of fixtures heading to the blank from GW28. And City have agreat five fixtures starting now. All the key FPL assets covered including Guehi, O'Reillly, Semenyo, Anderson, Wilson and Jimenez. Plus, what's happened (again) to Phil Foden and what might we expect from Fulham's signing form this weeks opponents, Oscar Bobb? From January 14 through February 4, Derrick and Cherry Pringle, along with Bev and me, drove 2000 km through Zambia, visiting churches and our brothers and sisters whom we haven't seen in seven years. We describe what we saw, heard and did.
In this episode of Coaching Revealed, hosts Austin Matzelle and Emily Terrani are joined by Dr. Zorana Ivcevic Pringle, researcher at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and author of The Creativity Choice. Together, they explore creativity as a psychological and emotional process—one that unfolds over time and is deeply shaped by mood, environment, and relationships.Dr. Pringle shares insights from decades of interdisciplinary creativity research, challenging common myths that creativity is reserved for artists or requires complete freedom. Instead, she reframes creativity as something both original and effective, accessible to everyone, and profoundly influenced by emotional awareness, constraints, and social context.Throughout the conversation, the hosts and Dr. Pringle examine how thinking and feeling are inseparable in creative work, how different emotional states serve different creative functions, and what coaches and leaders can do to cultivate environments where creativity can reliably emerge.Episode LinksYale Center for Emotional Intelligence: YCEIThe Creativity Choice: https://www.zorana-ivcevic-pringle.com/

We know we want kids to have choice. As much choice as possible in creating the education that is meaningful and helpful for them. That choice can come through choice over content, medium, expression of ideas, types of discussion, seating in the classroom, what to work on when, when to take a break...there are so many possibilities! If you make it a professional challenge to start seeing the possibilities for choice, you'll find them everywhere! As I've been working on choice as a theme for The Lighthouse this month, I knew that I wanted to create a final choice board project adaptable for any text that would provide a range of options for students. But I also knew I wanted to avoid the pitfalls of some of the choice projects I designed for my own classroom, when I ended up having to create seven different rubrics and rewire myself for a huge range of requirements on my different project options as I graded them. While I was glad to give my students those choices, it was frustrating how long it took to complete my comments. So I took some of my favorite types of projects, what I've learned about creating linked hyperdocs, and my strong desire for an easy grading situation and mashed it all up into an adaptable final project with nine choices, including one that allows students to create their own way to make meaning from what they've studied (so really, a million choices). I'm going to walk you through the process today, so you can do the same next time you'd like to create a project full of options, gifting your students agency as they synthesize what they've learned and create something new. It continues to be one of the great scandals of modern America that in the world's richest nation, millions of people – including an especially high percentage of children – suffer from hunger and malnutrition. Here in North Carolina, around one in seven people — including a quarter of our children — are burdened by food insecurity. And just to make the situation that much more outrageous and inexcusable, recent actions by federal and state elected officials to undermine SNAP food assistance and slash funding for anti-hunger nonprofits have made the situation significantly worse. The result: this year, more people than ever are struggling to feed their families. Amazingly, however, the good people doing anti-hunger work remain resilient and unbowed, and recently we got the chance to learn more about the needs in our community and how average folks can help in an extended conversation with the president and CEO of the Interfaith Food Shuttle, Ron Pringle. In Part One of our recent extended conversation with Interfaith Food Shuttle President and CEO Ron Pringle, we dug into the hunger crisis that currently afflicts North Carolina and how recent actions by federal and state lawmakers to slash funding for food assistance and nonprofits that aid people in need have made an already bad situation significantly worse. In Part Two of our chat, we dug deeper into the details of the current hunger crisis, some of the many innovative and hopeful ways in which groups like the Food Shuttle, even with depleted funding, seek to attack it, and how average North Carolinians can support their effort by donating their time, talents and treasure. According to research by Stanford Professor Bob Sutton, innovative businesses need to generate about 4,000 ideas to come up with two or three really good ones. Think about that. 4,000 ideas. What does that mean for our students? In their busy whirlwind days, they're likely to opt for their first or second idea on any given assignment. A thesis pops into their head? They'll probably hit the ground running with it so they can get their paper done. They think of a project concept for genius hour? Boom. They jump on board. In an era of busy busy and test prep, brainstorming often gets shortchanged. But what if that means students are spending hours, days, even weeks on ideas that don't deserve their time? Ideas they would have quickly surpassed with a few more minutes of thinking, and a quick feedback session with a partner? Today on the pod, let's talk about how can we build a better brainstorming engine into our projects, paper processes, and units. We're going to take a peek at two quick case studies today - one in a classroom full of students just getting started on a podcast project, and another from my experience working on a concept for PD. On the second Clash of the Correspondents of the week James is joined by Newcastle United fan Simon Bibby and Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle to discuss all the latest at their clubs ahead of the GW12 meeting at St James's Park. And Newcastle are probably delighted that is having only picked up 12 points so far this season and much of that owes to their dreadful away results. What's going wrong? Whilst City will feel their push for the title starts now after their statement win against Champions Liverpool. And for both clubs, great fixtures are around the corner following this one and that means Gameweek 13 Wildcarders should have particular interest. The other day I found myself walking through a parking garage stairwell in Iowa City, and I realized they were using the same scent design as the local mall in Bratislava where we used to live. Half-shocked, half-amused, I climbed the cement stairs as I remembered riding the escalator through the same subtle scent cloud two years ago. The memory was visceral. Though we don't always think about it, our sensory experiences have a strong impact on how we feel and how we work. I do my best work in a situation where I feel comfortable. In fact, I generally prefer not to work at home because step one, for me, to working at home is often to clean the entire house, put music on, light a candle, pick flowers, make tea, etc. and so I spent an hour prepping to work before I do anything. I bet you've already put considerable time and effort into making your classroom a space where you feel comfortable and where students feel welcome. Today isn't about changing any of that; it's just about finding small places where you might be able to tune your sensory dashboard in class to make it work even better for you and your kiddos. By thinking specifically about the five senses - just like we have students do in their writing - you can find easy wins to make the workspace more welcoming, energizing, and comfortable for everyone inside. Think you're a creative person? Think again. In this episode, psychologist and author Dr. Zorana Pringle explains why most of us are far less creative than we believe—and what to do about it. We explore why great ideas often die before they ever get started, how fear disguises itself as perfectionism, and why creativity has more to do with action than inspiration. If you've ever felt stuck, distracted, or frustrated that your ideas never quite become reality, this conversation will hit home. You'll walk away with a deeper understanding of how creativity really works—and how to finally unlock it. In this episode of Reinventing Solidarity, we feature a keynote address from National Education Association president Becky Pringle from a conference titled "Labor and the Crisis of Democracy," hosted by the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies and co-sponsored with the Cornell University Worker Institute. Pringle takes stock of the attacks on workers, free speech, and basic democratic rights, but argues, “Unions were built for this moment” of fighting back.

What prevents some of us from acting on our creative ideas while others dive right in? That's the question creativity researcher, Zorana Ivcevic Pringle, set out to answer. It's what she writes about in her book, The Creativity Choice: The Science of Making Decisions to Turn Ideas into Action. Zorana is a senior research scientist at Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. Through her work, she's learned that creativity is a choice, and, when things get hard, we need to employ specific psychological and emotional tools to sustain our efforts. We also need to tap into strong and weak ties for support. If you're looking to unstick your creative capacity, this is the book you'll want to pick up. It's an inspiring read! We know employers want creative thinkers. We know creative thinking is necessary to solve the problems we see everywhere in our world. We know we want our students to learn to be more creative. But what does that mean exactly? Where does the science of creativity meet the cultural definition we all build for ourselves just by swimming in the 21st century stream? My guest today is Dr. Zorana Ivcevic Pringle. Let me share her bio with you: "With more than 25 years as a scientist studying creativity, Zorana brings insights into the nature of the creative process, from the first decision to engage with new ideas to its culmination in creative performances and products. She is a scientist at Yale University, author, and speaker. Zorana's work has been featured in the Harvard Business Review, ArtNet, US News, Education Week, Science Daily, El Pais, and others, and she is a regular contributor to Psychology Today and Creativity Post.” Today, we're talking about how science defines creativity, and how research shows us we can guide our students - and ourselves - to develop more creative confidence. You'll learn what's important in designing your space, launching and building creative units, speaking with students about the hurdles that get in their path, and assessing creative work in a way that's meaningful for student development along the way, not just at the end. Honestly, I started Zorana's book, The Creativity Choice, searching for everything I could find to help me understand classroom creativity better. But I finished with fresh ideas not only for constructing curriculum and classroom spaces, but also for how I tackle projects, run my company, and talk to my own children about their ideas. On the first of four Clash of the Correspondents during the International break James is joined by Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle and Manchester United fan Alex Trembath to preview the Manchester Derby in GW4 and discuss concerns at both clubs... Following last week's embarrassing Carabao Cup elimination at the hands of four tier Grimsby Town, United manager Ruben Amorim has come under increased scrutiny again. Does Alex still have belief that he can turn it around? And is Pep Guardiola escaping similar scrutiny? City are below United in the table following defeats at Tottenham and Brighton and the manner of those defeats has caused alarm. Plus, there's discussion on the key FPL assets including Rayan Ait-Nouri, Erling Haaland, Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo, whether the post GW1 hype around Tijani Reijnders was misguided, if Patrick Dorgu will earn his spot back in the United team and both teams may start The Derby at The Etihad with a new goalkeeprer. Do we all have some creative ability in us? Yes. Can we learn and grow to be more creative? Yes. Should we all be living as “creatives?” I question this. But what creativity we have, whether it's art, ideas, businesses, innovations, or solutions to problems, how can we best go from the idea or concept, to actually doing and delivering something? I don't want to do something with every creative idea I have, but with the ones that matter, I'd be lying if I said I just made them all happen. I don't always, and I haven't always understood why. Which is why I have for you today, Zorana Ivcevic Pringle. Zorana Ivcevic Pringle is a senior research scientist at Yale University's Center for Emotional Intelligence where she studies the process of making something both original and effective, which is how she defines creativity, and explains how turning those ideas into reality always starts with the choice to act, or what she calls the creativity choice. It is a choice that must be made again and again until one's creative ideas take shape. She has a new book called just that, The Creativity Choice: The Science of Making Decisions to Turn Ideas into Action. In this conversation we discuss not only what it takes to get started with our creative ideas but the psychological and emotional tools needed to sustain the creative process. I really appreciate Zorana coming at this as a true scientist and not telling us it's just easy. She claims the creative process is hard, and when it comes to the original idea and presenting something useful to humanity, I agree. I feel we do a disservice to people when we try to encompass things into a little formula we sell as “easy.” I find few things of value to be very easy. Simple maybe, but seldom easy. So here we walk through the three parts of Zorana's Creative Process and as you will hear, we discuss the necessary ingredients, but ingredients you must assemble in a unique way for your unique self. Jonny Pringle joins James for the opening Podcast on Day 4 of Correspondent Week to discuss all things Manchester City, including whether we should consider them as capable of getting back to their best. Erling Haaland is of course discussed, will Jonny start with him and take on Liverpool's Mo Salah? There's several head to heads within the City squad discussed including Eayan Ait-Nouri v Josko Gvardiol and Phil Foden v Omar Marmoush. The case is also made for consideration to the likes of Matheus Nunes, Tijani Reijnders and a hopefully, fully fit Rodri. But the opening fixtures aren't (in Jonny's words) a slam dunk, and unlikely many previous seasons, the squad has too many bodies. Meaning rotation is likely to be as big a headache as ever. Dr. Zorana Ivcevic Pringle is a leading researcher in creativity psychology and author of The Creativity Choice: The Science of Making Decisions to Turn Ideas into Action. In this episode, she unpacks how creativity isn't just a moment of inspiration—it's a series of choices. Whether you think you're creative or not, Zorana shares how motivation, attention, risk tolerance, and constraint shape the process of turning ideas into reality. In this episode, we cover:Creativity Is More Than Ideas: Zorana explains how we've culturally over-glorified the spark of inspiration and ignored the decision-making and execution behind it.The Myth of the “Creative Type”: Creativity isn't just for artists—it's about original, effective solutions in any domain. Why Constraints Boost Creativity: Contrary to popular belief, creativity often increases when we have guardrails that focus and challenge our thinking. The Role of Risk in Creative Work: Zorana breaks down intellectual, emotional, and social risks—and how to increase your tolerance over time. The Two Engines of Creativity: Motivation provides energy, while attention directs it. You need both to make progress on creative projects.Problem Finding vs. Problem Solving: Zorana introduces this lesser-known concept as a key to identifying where creativity can be applied. The Goldilocks Zone of Challenge: Learn how to find the sweet spot between too easy and too hard so your ideas actually move forward. How Social Conditioning Kills Creativity: Early messaging about what counts as “creative” can cause many to opt out before they begin.Building Creative Momentum in Small Steps: Zorana shares her own journey from writing blog posts to eventually publishing her book—and how each step built risk tolerance. Why Total Freedom Can Backfire: New research shows that creativity thrives not in total freedom, but with a balance of structure and autonomy.Whether you're stuck at the idea stage or afraid to start, this episode will help you reframe creativity as a process anyone can engage with—and show you how to make progress one decision at a time.Learn more about Zorana's work at ZoranaPringle.com and find The Creativity Choice wherever books are sold.Connect with Erik:LinkedIn ThreadsFacebook BlueskyThis Podcast is Powered By:DescriptDescript 101CastmagicEcammPodpageRodecaster ProTop Productivity Books ListMake sure to grab Shortcasts from Beyond The To-Do List by Blinkist. In this episode of The Soaring Child, host Dana Kay welcomes back counselor, neurodiversity educator, and yoga facilitator Caz Pringle-Bowden for a deep dive into a transformative concept for ADHD families — the Family Operational Manual. If parenting your child with ADHD often feels like chaos without a game plan, this episode offers a unique and practical tool that could change the way your household operates. Dana and Caz explore how understanding each family member's brain wiring can shift a household from reactive to regulated. With real-life examples, creative metaphors, and small, actionable tips, they walk you through how to create a shared playbook tailored to your family's needs — helping you move from daily friction to connection and confidence. You're yelling instructions, your partner is doing something else entirely, and your kids are off in the corner melting down. The operational manual is sort of like a brilliant metaphor for externalizing a person's pathway to best and calmest functioning. If we are in a calm, regulated state, we can really enjoy ourselves. We're supposed to move in and out of those states, but ultimately we do want to set things up for success. This isn't a discipline issue, it's a systems issue. Creating a family operational manual removes assumptions and builds understanding. Authenticity is contagious. It's not bad. It's not them doing anything wrong. It's just the wiring. Rome wasn't built in a day, listeners. Remember that one. How to Connect to Caz: Website: https://www.cazpringlebowden.com.au/ Dana Kay Resources:
#626: A software programmer and an accountant walk into retirement planning. Are they being creative? Dr. Zorana Ivcevic Pringle, a senior research scientist at Yale University's Center for Emotional Intelligence, says absolutely. Pringle defines creativity as something that's both original and effective, whether you're solving an accounting problem or planning an unconventional retirement. We explore the gap between having ideas and actually implementing them. You have this brilliant vision for starting a business, changing careers, or retiring early, but somehow you never take the first step. Pringle calls this the implementation gap, and she explains why it happens. The conversation centers on a hypothetical couple: both 55 years old, one a programmer, the other in middle management. They want to retire at 57 and travel the world. Pringle uses this example to illustrate how creative problem-solving works in real life. She explains that creativity requires comfort with uncertainty. When you're doing something new, you don't have a blueprint or checklist. There's always the risk that your early retirement plan could fail spectacularly — imagine having to return to work at 59 after the market tanks and your portfolio gets crushed. Here's the key insight: you don't need full confidence to start. Pringle compares creative confidence to fuel in a car. You don't need a full tank — you can start with just a quarter tank and refuel along the way. Each small success builds more confidence for the next step. The bottom line? Innovation happens through constant iteration. Your final destination might change throughout your career and retirement, and that's completely normal.
