We're 70% through the penultimate Gameweek of the season and the weekend concluded with West Ham failing to take the opportunity to move out of the relegation as they were beaten by a Will Osula inspired Newcastle. Osula is one of a number of players who may now appeal for those who want to take punts on attacking players for final day. Is Mo Salah also one of them? Back off the bench on Friday night, but Liverpool were humbled badly at Aston Villa on Friday night as Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins returned well. But so too did two Liverpool players in Virgil Van Dijk and Domink Szoboszlai. A dramatic weekend in the Premier League reviewed with Suj and James as the race for the title and the battle to stay up took major twists and there are potentially big implications for Fantasy managers as a result. Arsenal won comfortably but Manchester City escaped from Everton with a draw giving Arsenal a big advantage in the race for the title. Win at West Ham and it looks to be theirs, but The Hammers will be desperate having fallen a point behind Tottenham in the race for 17th,. That race to stay up is now almost certainly a two-way battle as Tottenham deserved won against a woeful Aston Villa, whilst Leeds won and so to did Nottingham Forest despite fielding an under strength team against a Chelsea who did at least finally score but were again very bad. And Bournemouth now lead the way ahead of Brentford for 6th which could yet result in qualification for The Champions League. Eyes now are on Arsenal assets and also Manchester City and Crystal Palace ahead of the Double Gameweek. But James also has two other teams on mind for investment despite neither team winning this weekend and there is deliberation as to whether Palace should be invested in at all. And there is a big warning about the rotation headaches that may hit Fantasy managers hard, and not just this coming Gameweek. Florida's new congressional map is out, and the more I look at it, the more it feels like Republicans are trying to push right up against the edge of what is politically and legally possible. The goal is obvious: take a delegation that used to split closer to 20 to 8 and force it into a 24 to 4 map. The way they get there is not subtle. It is classic packing and cracking, cramming Democrats into a handful of ultra blue districts while shaving just enough of that vote into surrounding areas to flip them red. On paper, it works. In practice, it might be a little too clever for its own good.The Orlando and Tampa changes are where the knife really goes in. Seats that were at least competitive or lightly Democratic get completely reengineered into solid Republican territory, often by double digit swings. That is not a tweak, that is a transformation. But the tradeoff is that you are stretching your margins thinner everywhere else. You are counting on your voters to show up consistently in districts that are no longer blowouts, and that is where the risk creeps in. If turnout slips even a little, some of these engineered wins start to look a lot shakier.South Florida is the most interesting piece, because it is where the assumptions behind the map really get tested. The strategy is to break up a dense cluster of Democratic voters and isolate them into just a few seats, while turning longtime strongholds into competitive races. Debbie Wasserman Schultz's district is the clearest example, going from safely blue to something that could genuinely flip. But that only works if the political coalitions in South Florida behave the way Republicans think they will.And that is a big if. The theory is that Latino voters in South Florida, especially Cuban, Venezuelan, and Colombian communities, will continue trending Republican, especially given recent foreign policy developments that resonate directly with those groups. If that holds, then this map could deliver exactly what it is designed to do. But if there is even a modest snapback, or if Democratic enthusiasm spikes the way it sometimes does in midterms without Trump on the ballot, then those same districts could turn into real problems.Because the energy question cuts both ways. Republicans may like how the map looks, but Democrats in Florida are fired up in a way that is hard to ignore. These are high turnout voters, especially older ones, and they do not need much motivation to show up. When you combine that with districts that have been made more competitive by design, you end up with a map that is not just aggressive, but potentially volatile.On top of all of that is the legal question, which is not trivial. Florida technically has rules against partisan gerrymandering, and while the state can argue that this is just a neutral redraw, that argument is going to get tested. If the courts decide this crosses the line, then the entire map could get thrown into uncertainty at the worst possible time for Republicans.So I keep coming back to the same thought. This is a high risk, high reward play. If everything breaks right, Republicans net multiple seats and strengthen their position heading into the midterms. On Saturday evening, there was a shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington, D.C. President Trump and members of his cabinet were rushed out of the room, and Trump later gave a surprisingly calm press conference. Authorities have a suspect in custody. Normally, security is extremely tight wherever the President goes, but several journalists reported that security at the event felt surprisingly lax. As politicians took to the Sunday shows to call for unity, internet gumshoes are speculating as to whether the shooting was staged. Today's Headlines: Yet another wild weekend of news! A man traveled from San Diego to DC by train with two legally purchased firearms and multiple knives, charged past security at the White House Correspondents Dinner, got shot at by a Secret Service agent who accidentally hit a fellow officer, and was apprehended within seconds. Trump was evacuated, went straight to the briefing room in black tie, and has since used the incident primarily to advocate for his White House ballroom, with the DOJ helpfully filing a motion to drop the lawsuit blocking its construction the very next morning. The suspect, Cole Tomas Allen, sent a manifesto to his family calling himself a "friendly federal assassin" and targeting Trump and his cabinet — his family forwarded it to law enforcement, who apparently didn't get there in time. Acting AG Todd Blanche responded to the shooting by saying tighter gun laws aren't the answer, which is exactly what you'd expect from the president's personal criminal defense attorney. On the Iran front, Trump cancelled the latest round of peace talks at the last minute, posting that it was "too much traveling" and that Iran's leadership is confused — Iran then sent a new proposal he called better but not good enough, while Iran's foreign minister flew to Russia to meet with Putin, so that's fun. The acting Secretary of the Navy is now Hung Cao, the tenth person to hold that role across Trump's two terms, a decorated veteran who has claimed to have been "blown up" in combat without evidence, wants American law based on biblical scripture, and warned during a 2023 campaign interview that witches had taken over Monterey, California. In Israel, centrist Yair Lapid and former PM Naftali Bennett announced a new coalition party that could threaten Netanyahu's grip on power, citing Hungary's ouster of Viktor Orban as their model — notable since Netanyahu has been in office for most of the past 17 years. Two major wildfires are burning in southeastern Georgia, with over 120 homes destroyed and one volunteer firefighter dead, while a tornado in northern Texas killed at least two people and displaced 20 families. Meta and Microsoft each announced layoffs of roughly 8,000 employees, both citing AI investment as the reason they need fewer humans around. And Elon Musk finally admitted on Tesla's earnings call that the full self-driving hardware sold to millions of customers for a decade simply cannot do what he promised — triggering class action lawsuits and a rare moment of honesty from a man who has very few of them.
