The stakes are rising everywhere.
#976 | A listener mailbag episode with Wayne and Ed, recorded during a gap in the men's fixture list (though United Women notched a seventh straight win). Wayne's been deep in writing a book on an under-explored era of United history, with fascinating cross-era player comparisons. Listener questions drive wide-ranging discussion: the ongoing burden of Glazer debt and whether Ratcliffe's involvement changes anything meaningful; the stadium regeneration plan; and pointed criticism of Ratcliffe's public comments, staff cuts, ticket price hikes, and chaotic decision-making - even as the org chart and finances have arguably improved. On football: the Wilcox-Amorim dynamic and where "oversight" crosses into interference; whether Michael Carrick's audition is going well; and why Ole's tenure deserves more respect than it gets. On the squad: Bruno Fernandes is irreplaceable, midfield needs a serious rebuild if Casemiro and Ugarte leave, the striker situation remains an area for more depth, and youth prospects offer some hope. 00:00 Intro 01:29 Wayne's Writing Projects 07:06 Ownership & Stadium Questions 13:06 Jim Ratcliffe's Comments 20:10 Jason Wilcox & Ruben Amorim 31:40 Michael Carrick Discussion 38:38 Bruno Fernandes Questions 43:20 Midfield & Transfer Needs 47:24 Striker Situation 51:34 Center Back & Youth Prospects 54:49 Most Damaging Post-Fergie Match 58:30 Fun Questions & Outro If you are interested in supporting the show and accessing a weekly exclusive bonus episode, check out our Patreon page or subscribe on Apple Podcasts. #975 | Ed and Dharnish discuss United's 1-1 draw with West Ham. It's the first draw of the Michael Carrick era - second act - and Nuno's low-block caused plenty of challenges. Why were United so flat? Was it tiredness after a second game in three days or just too many players off their game? There's plenty of talk about Casemiro's role and how United might replace him, another strong Kobbie Mainoo performance, and an outstanding goal from substitute Benjamin Sesko. Could the Slovenian have started this one given West Ham's tactics? 00:00 Introduction 00:57 March Breakdown 03:50 Carrick's Strategy 09:55 Defensive Concerns 16:47 Casemiro's Role 22:46 Analyzing Player Performances 24:48 Transfer Market 29:34 Match Against Everton 37:42 Concluding Thoughts If you are interested in supporting the show and accessing a weekly exclusive bonus episode, check out our Patreon page or subscribe on Apple Podcasts. Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Broadcaster Russ Williams, Vass Koni and Marlon as playing for over an hour with 10 men proved too much of an uphill task at Old Trafford as we suffered a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime. Having started well, we found ourselves on the back foot after captain Cristian Romero was shown a straight red card for his 29th-minute challenge on Casemiro and the Red Devils duly took advantage to register their first win against us in nine attempts. Bryan Mbeumo slid home following a short corner routine seven minutes before half-time, but we stayed very much in the game – thanks in part to a string of fine saves from Guglielmo Vicario – and it was only a late goal from Bruno Fernandes that finally killed us off. The second period also saw the debut of Souza, signed last month from Brazilian side Santos, following an injury to Destiny Udogie at left-back. We discuss the actions of Romero and whether he has lost all the goodwill he gained during the week from Spurs fans, we question if Spurs are in a relegation battle and if so whether Thomas Frank can steer us out of it. #972 | Ed and Adam discuss United's decision not to reinforce the squad in the winter transfer window. Sensible long-term financial planning or one injury away from disaster? Perhaps both, with United in a great position to qualify for the Champions League next season and deeply reliant on Casemiro's revival in central midfield. There's a celebration of United's revival under Michael Carrick. Will it continue this weekend against a Spurs side desperately out-of-form and unhappy with manager Thomas Frank. There are reports of concerns about the club's commercial underperformance - at least relative to rivals who have overtaken United. What do the Glazers expect? Finally, it's the anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster. Why does Pep have such a hard time with Spurs? Did Dominic Solanke just win a Puskas? And have Villa's xG overperformances finally caught up with them? Then, we dive into Manchester United's dramatic win against Fulham and Casemiro's importance to the team - does his upcoming exit make the mission clear for United in the summer transfer window? And how about Chelsea coming from 2 down to beat West Ham? While Rosenior gets the praise, JJ suggests that it was actually Nuno's errors that allowed it to happen. For even more Caught Offside content, get on over to Caught Offside Plus right now!

#947 | Ed and Dan react to a breathless, chaotic 4–4 draw that managed to be both exhilarating and deeply exposing. They break down United's aggressive pressing, fluid attacking movement, and how the side functioned without a recognised striker, while also confronting the defensive fragility that turned control into volatility. The discussion moves through tactical trade-offs, shape-shifting between a back three and a back four, and the consequences of those choices under pressure. Individual performances are assessed in detail, including Amad's influence, Bruno Fernandes' authority, and Casemiro's role. There's also scrutiny of managerial decisions, the impact of Afcon, and what this match says about the limits of flexibility versus structure. The episode closes by looking ahead to Aston Villa, weighing likely selections, priorities, and how much adjustment this squad can realistically absorb. 00:00 First impressions from a chaotic 4–4 04:03 Defensive vulnerabilities and systemic flaws 07:49 Back three vs back four – what worked, what didn't 12:33 Goals and individual performances 25:29 Bruno Fernandes – quality, responsibility, future 34:45 Amorim on youth and squad trust 39:29 Looking ahead to Aston Villa – selection dilemmas 45:04 Final reflections If you are interested in supporting the show and accessing a weekly exclusive bonus episode, check out our Patreon page or subscribe on Apple Podcasts. #941 | Ed and Adam break down United's 2-1 win away at Crystal Palace, a match that split neatly into two stories. The first half looked laboured. The second half looked like a team that finally woke up. They dig into what changed, who stepped up, and why the performance still raises as many questions as it answers. The conversation moves into the bigger picture too. Kyle Macaulay's impending arrival sparks a discussion about how United's recruitment department might finally take shape, what that means for squad building, and how data should guide the next phase. They also look ahead to West Ham, weighing possible lineups and the tradeoffs created by injuries, form, and fixture congestion. 00:00 Introduction01:17 Agenda: Palace, recruitment strategy, West Ham02:31 TV scheduling and matchday experience04:25 Palace vs United analysis06:48 Second half turnaround10:02 Casemiro, Bruno, Mount16:11 System limitations and squad balance19:44 Academy and youth pathways24:04 Zirkzee and Mount goals27:11 Mateta and the penalty shout35:31 Kyle Macaulay and recruitment45:08 West Ham preview and lineup ideas55:19 Rotation and January window56:56 Close If you are interested in supporting the show and accessing a weekly exclusive bonus episode, check out our Patreon page or subscribe on Apple Podcasts. There's chat about winter routines, sleepless nights, and how United fans could probably use a nap themselves after the latest couple of matches. They break down recent lineup choices, substitution patterns, and the contrast between United's home control and away struggles. There's plenty of focus on how Amorim's setup and tactical caution is stifling its own progress. The discussion moves through shape, roles, and execution - from the chaos after Casemiro departed, defensive shape, and the ongoing left wing-back conundrum. After Manchester United's winning run comes to an end, Rio, Joel and Ste discuss all of the positives from the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest including Amad Diallo's attitude whilst playing in defence, Casemiro's ability on the ball and how the front three are giving the defence a solid platform to build on.Rio acknowledges how important Sir Jim Ratcliffe's interview about Amorim being judged only after “three years” could be in terms of facilitating the improved form and performances and why the left-side of the defence should be the manager's next priority to improve. With Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe all in incredible form, Joel asks Rio to pick his favourite and Ste chooses who he would like to see most in an Man Utd shirt. There have been several suggestions that Viktor Gyokeres is only a “flat track bully” (because of his lack of goals vs “big” teams) but Rio analyses his performances and details why his ability and traits mean Arsenal have added another effective way of attacking opposition defences. After Virgil Van Dijk responded to what he described as “absolutely ridiculous takes” Rio admits he loves hearing a captain speak out on behalf of his team mates and also gives Trent Alexander-Arnold some advice about facing his former club as Liverpool welcome Real Madrid to Anfield in the Champions League.Plus, Liverpool fans take note - we reveal who the next guest is going to be on Rio Meets and it's not one to be missed!Subscribe: http://bit.ly/15QO9WERio Ferdinand Presents: rioferdinandpresents.comRio Ferdinand Presents Instagram: https://instagram.com/rioferdinandpresentsRio Ferdinand Presents Twitter/X: https://x.com/RioMeetsRio Ferdinand Presents Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rioferdinandpresentsRio Ferdinand Presents TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@rioferdinandpresentsRio Ferdinand Presents Threads: https://www.threads.net/@rioferdinandpresentsRio Ferdinand Instagram: https://instagram.com/rioferdy5Rio Ferdinand Twitter/X: https://x.com/rioferdy5Rio Ferdinand Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RioFerdinandOfficialRio Ferdinand TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@rioferdy5Rio Ferdinand Threads: https://www.threads.net/@rioferdy5 Hosted on Acast. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Charlie Wyett, Dominic King and Carl Anka to reflect on the weekend's sporting action. We start with Liverpool's much needed victory against Aston Villa; the shocking run is over, but is this a real turning point for Liverpool? Attention then shifts to Arsenal's win at Burnley. Charlie praises Gyokeres' impressive first half, and after a ninth win and seventh consecutive clean sheet, Carl suggests stopping Arsenal is going to be very hard. Then we turn to an unhappy Sean Dyche, after a 2-2 draw against Man United. Carl believes the ball hadn't crossed the line before Casemiro's controversially awarded opening goal.Next up, another defeat for Wolves at Craven Cottage leaves relegation to the Championship looking increasingly likely, and Charlie asks: who would want to take Vítor Pereira's job?We then look to Tottenham, who were booed off at home after a 1-0 defeat to Maresca's Chelsea. With images of Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven walking straight past Thomas Frank at full-time, is the Spurs boss losing the dressing room? And finally, we ask, who's to blame for the revival of long-ball football?*At the time of recording, Vítor Pereira had not yet been dismissed from his position at Wolves.Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. Nottingham Forest were the underdogs against a resurgent Manchester United as the two sides met in the Premier League at the City Ground. It finished 2-2 though as Forest fought back from a controversial Casemiro goal with goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona. However, United could not hold on as Amad scored late on with Forest failing to defend set pieces once again. Matt Davies is joined by Chris Aylmer from Forest All Over and Chief in Chicago to discuss the game in full. #nffc #nottinghamforest
#932 | Ed and Adam break down Manchester United's upturn in form - and the growing sense that Rúben Amorim's ideas are finally taking hold. From the cynicism of a month ago to whispers of Champions League qualification (steady on), the mood around Old Trafford has changed fast. We dig into United's more direct, vertical style, Casemiro's resurgence, and Bruno Fernandes' rediscovered influence in Amorim's system. The conversation moves to the small tactical tweaks - in pressing shape, passing, and roles - that have helped unlock a sharper, more confident team. Beyond the pitch, there's talk of Liverpool's struggles, Forest's chaos, and how AFCON absences could test the squad's depth this winter just as momentum returns. #916 | Ed and Daniel pull apart United's chaotic victory over Chelsea – a game defined by red cards, questionable substitutions, but a result that eases the pressure on Ruben Amorim. We get into the impact of Casemiro's dismissal, the defensive approach that left United hanging on, and a set of substitutions that only made things worse. Up front, poor decision-making in the final third and muddled wing-back positioning are laid bare. There's bigger-picture chat too: United's midfield issues, waiting for new attacking signings to fully bed in, and the sight of ex-Reds thriving elsewhere. Plus: a nod to United Women's progress in Europe, a look ahead to fixtures coming up, and a brief chat about the financial fog that surrounds the club.
