連俞涵 FB https://www.facebook.com/babyfishtube IG https://www.instagram.com/lienbaby ・ 節目監製|凱特文化 K.A.T.E Publishing/Intergrate Marketing 合作洽談|podcast相關合作請來信 katedog@ms35.hinet.net 聆聽回饋|cindyharriet@gmail.com ・ 視覺設計|萬亞雰 製作統籌|Lan 節目剪輯|房子共同工作室 音樂來源| Falling Slowly by Peter McIsaac Short forest ambience, birds, distant river, Cat Tien National Park, Vietnam (sound from https://www.zapsplat.com)>) -- Hosting provided by SoundOn -- Hosting provided by SoundOn
Episode 115: Bite-Sized Bible Study | Reading Passages on Judgement with a Lens of Compassion | Jude Part 1 The Bible is jam-packed with stories of restoration, incredible miracles, and displays of God's compassion… but there are also writings about judgement and punishment. So, what do we do with those? It is easy to want to skip those or allow those passages to fuel our own judgement toward others… but is there another way to read those passages and apply them to our lives? As we look at the book of Jude, we will read it with this question in mind: “How can I read this through the lens of God's compassion?” My seminary professor, Dr. Doug Hardy, says that God is the “Capital C Compassionate God.” So, even in the seemingly harsh words in Scripture, how do we see God's compassion and how we can be driven by God's compassion? These questions have shaped the way that I read the Bible and I hope they help you as well. —— I'd love to connect with you on instagram. You can find me @carlycommunicates. About Dr. Douglas Hardy: I understand my calling to be primarily about “coming alongside” others as a spiritual guide. I do this as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in service to the church for the sake of the world. To do this with integrity, I study and practice Christian spiritual formation and assist others to do the same, especially those preparing for ministry through formal theological education. My roles have varied across time—counselor, parish pastor, undergraduate psychology professor, spiritual director, graduate theology professor—and across contexts—Canada, the U.S., Africa, Ireland, in the classroom, on retreat, on pilgrimage, in my office, or at a coffee shop. I especially enjoy the opportunity to teach and learn with students. My classes are experientially-oriented, with a mix of lecture, discussion, and practice. Drawing on both the ancient Christian contemplative tradition and contemporary research in contemplative studies, I intentionally create time and space for silence, listening, and reflection so that learning is accompanied by a personal transformation that goes deep. My current research includes participation in a moral virtues consultation with Point Loma Nazarene University, a Wabash-funded cohort of theological educators examining embodied pedagogies, and, as president-elect of the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality.
Fear is something that we all deal with from time to time. However, sometimes when fear seems to get a grip on us, we feel like we have failed. When this happens, we are slammed with anxiety and shame, which is absolutely miserable. Today, on the podcast, Dr. Doug Hardy is back to remind us that being fearful is not a character flaw. Instead of trying to push fear aside, God is inviting us to acknowledge it and redirect our focus to God's welcome and embrace. Doug Hardy serves as Professor of Spiritual Formation at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO where he helps students who are preparing for pastoral ministry to pray as they learn. He is a spiritual director in addition to teaching and leading retreats and pilgrimages. Dr. Hardy is familiar with the complexities of perfectionism in his own life, and now is able to come alongside and encourage others to notice and respond to the God who loves them unconditionally. Doug is married to a hospital chaplain; together they have three grown children. The Foundry Press has published two of his small group studies geared for use in local churches: Christian Disciplines: Creating Time & Space for God (2013) and Prayer: Sharing Intimate Space with God (2015). ------- I always love connecting with you and hearing how the podcasts are making a difference in your pursuit of wholeness! Do you struggle with a pesky inner critic? I do!! Sometimes the negative self-critical voice becomes so loud that it is easy for us to confuse that voice with the voice of God. On today's episode, Dr. Doug Hardy will remind us that God is not shaming us or disgusted with us. God is a "capital C Compassionate God" who invites us to root ourselves in God's loving voice. From that place of love, we are compelled to courageously let go of things (and voices!) that may hold us back. Our conversation goes a few minutes longer than past podcasts, in part because I so thoroughly enjoy talking to Doug about formation, emotional wholeness, and practices such as worship, prayer, and Scripture reading. There is much to glean from my time with Doug, so thanks for sitting in this week's new Creation Conversation with Dr. Doug Hardy.

On today's show, Doug discusses several different viewpoints on how Christians should handle Netflix, movies, TV, and other forms of entertainment in today's world of such easy access. In covering this topic, Doug references a list of four different questions that Christians should ask themselves before bingeing on Netflix or other entertainment sources. Could I spend this time better? Are there other shows/movies that could be more edifying? Are the lovers of such shows a great lover of the Book of God and a holy life? Does the movie increase my love of the Word of God? Does it help in some way to create a healthy discussion?
