From back surgery and chronic debilitating pain… to running, lifting, and moving freely again, I have my life back.5 years ago, I herniated two discs doing clean + jerk. I couldn't walk for weeks due to pain. I became obsessed with recovery and healed fairly quickly, but relapsed with worse pain a few years later after a chiropractic adjustment sent electric pain shooting down my leg and completely debilitated me.For years, I spiraled with pain, anger, fear, depression, drinking, and debt. I dropped out of university and spent two years living in fear, blaming others, and feeling stuck in the past. Out of desperation, I got a microdiscectomy. I expected everything to change. It didn't.A year post-surgery, still unable to run, lift, or feel normal, I joined the Whealth Limitless Programme. Conor O Shea is a mobility coach.  He is also the host of the Strong For Life podcast and with over 230k followers on Instagram, he helps people over 30 feel a decade younger whilst moving pain free.  He spent most of his 20s struggling with chronic pain that affected him so badly at times I considered leaving the fitness industry because he was worried, I couldn't do his job anymore.  He left Ireland in 2013 and sought out the best coaches in the world. He learned from the yogis in Mysore and the best callisthenics, mobility and flexibility coaches who were super fit in their 50s and 60s.  He began to understand that his body was riddled with injuries and how to rebuild himself from the ground up. There's the fear that can be as a result of trauma, an accident, for example, that can make penetration feel like an insurmountable hurdle. And it doesn't matter whether it's a partner or something as clinical as a speculum; the result is the same. For some, like my guest Dr. Amanda Olson, it was an accident so severe it turned intimacy into agony. Her journey, though, led her to something remarkable: retraining as a pelvic floor therapist and founding Intimate Rose, a company that creates vaginal dilators and other tools designed not just to heal, but to rediscover pleasure.When Amanda and I spoke, we dived headfirst into the subject of dilators - how they work, who they help, and why they matter. Melissa is a performance physical therapist and is heavily involved in the CrossFit space as a healthcare provider, as well as an athlete. Melissa grew up in the Metropolitan New York area, but now resides in the Tampa Bay area. Upon graduating from PT school, Melissa started working in an outpatient orthopedic physical therapy practice, but was unsatisfied with what she was able to achieve there and the level of care provided for patients. At the time, she was coaching remotely and decided to break away form the clinic altogether, and opened up her own practice. Melissa is now a remote rehab and performance coach, as well as a physical therapist with her clinic out of her affiliate, CrossFit Westchase in Largo, FL. In addition, she is a proud member of the Rapid Health Optimization team as a movement specialist.
