Welcome to an interview with former Indiana University athletic director, Fred Glass. This podcast will make you think about the economics of business in sports and understand the deep thinking behind the scenes that makes it all possible. Fred served as a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge S. Hugh Dillin, also an IU alumnus. From 1989 to 1993, he was chief of staff to former Indiana Gov. Evan Bayh, and, in 2000, helmed the transition team chief for former Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson. Peterson appointed Fred, then a partner in the law firm of Baker & Daniels (now Faegre Baker Daniels), to the city's Capital Improvement Board, which oversees Lucas Oil Stadium, the Indiana Convention Center, Conseco Fieldhouse, and Victory Field. Fred negotiated a number of sports-related wins for the city, including: adding Indianapolis to the permanent hosting rotation for the NCAA Final Four Tournament; laying the groundwork for the city's successful 2012 Super Bowl bid; and putting together the strategy and plans for development of Lucas Oil Stadium. In 2008, President McRobbie appointed Fred as Indiana University's vice president and director of athletics. Since assuming the role, Fred has worked tirelessly to ensure IU returns to its rightful place as one of the premier athletic departments in the country. His tenure has been marked, in part, by a deep commitment to the wellness, development, and achievement of the students under his charge. His 24 Sports, One Team philosophy has brought together student athletes from all IU sports, encouraging them to attend each other's games, support one another, and function as an extended IU family. Nate Feltman is co-owner of the IBJ Corporation, publisher of the Indianapolis Business Journal, the Indiana Lawyer and the Court & Commercial Record. Nate also is the CEO of NJF Consulting, LLC, which provides acquisition and business consulting services. From 2010 - 2017, Nate was President, CEO and co-owner of Home Health Depot, Inc. (HHD) and its subsidiary, Genesis Healthcare Services, LLC, providers of complex rehabilitation mobility equipment, hospice, respiratory and home medical equipment. During his tenure, HHD grew from one location in Indianapolis, to 20 locations in 6 states, and from 30 employees to 240 employees, while quadrupling revenue. Nate was also a partner with the law firms Faegre Baker & Daniels and Ice Miller, in Indianapolis, and Altheimer & Gray in Chicago, where his practice focused on representing public and private companies with their merger and acquisition activities, as well as advising local governments on public-private partnerships and economic development strategies. Before his U.S. legal experience, Nate spent nearly four years in Moscow, Russia (1994-1998) with the international law firms Baker & McKenzie and Steptoe & Johnson, where he represented companies seeking to do business in Russia. Appointed by Governor Mitch Daniels, Nate served as Secretary of Commerce for the State of Indiana and CEO of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation from 2006-2008. Before working with CSU Ventures, Jessica was a senior clinical trial coordinator for an investigational drug study for renal transplants, an extern in the Technology Transfer Office, and research assistant at the University of Colorado, and a patent agent clerk at Faegre Baker Daniels. Jessica has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Northern Colorado, a double B.S in Cellular, Molecular & Developmental Biology and Biochemistry, and a Master's Degree in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Currently, while working full time, Jessica is pursuing a Master's Degree in Engineering at Colorado State University and studying to take the Patent Bar. His bio: On February 28, 2019, the U.S. Senate confirmed Andrew Wheeler as the fifteenth Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. President Donald J. Trump had announced his appointment as the Acting EPA Administrator on July 5, 2018. Mr. Wheeler had previously been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the EPA Deputy Administrator on April 12, 2018. Mr. Wheeler has dedicated his career to advancing sound environmental policies. He began his career during the George H. W. Bush Administration as a Special Assistant in EPA's Pollution Prevention and Toxics office. He was a Principal and the team leader of the Energy and Environment Practice Group at FaegreBD Consulting, as well as Counsel at Faegre Baker Daniels law firm, where he practiced since 2009. He also served as the Co-chair of the Energy and Natural Resources Industry team across the entire firm. Prior to his work with the firm, Mr. Wheeler served for six years as the Majority Staff Director and Chief Counsel, as well as the Minority Staff Director, of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. Before his time at the full Senate EPW Committee, Mr. Wheeler served in a similar capacity for six years for the Subcommittee on Clean Air, Climate Change, Wetlands and Nuclear Safety. Mr. Wheeler is the past Chairman of the National Energy Resource Organization (NERO) and a Stennis Fellow. Mr. Wheeler is also an Eagle Scout. Mr. Wheeler is from Fairfield, Ohio.
