In this era of political polarization, the landscape in the United States is marked by the rise of Donald Trump as the frontrunner for the Republican nomination in the 2024 presidential election. This despite Trump facing numerous legal challenges–including over his involvement in the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol. However, Trump and his supporters are but the most visible element. The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is increasingly taking over the religious right movement and, in turn, influencing the Republican Party, which holds implications for Christianity and the future of democracy. The NAR is closely aligned with those who are on a mission to take over democracy worldwide under the guise of “religious freedom.” Not only are they backing Trump, but Trump is backing them. This movement of politicized Neo-Charismatic Pentecostals (NCP) seeks to assert dominance through their Seven Mountain Mandate, which we've previously discussed. There is a possibility that Trump could once again serve as a conduit for their agenda at the nation's highest office, amplifying the impact of this cult movement towards religious theocracy through the legislative and judicial branches of government at all levels. The theocratic end goals are clearly laid out through Project Blitz, a state-level legislative program primarily led by NAR operatives. André Gagné and Frederick Clarkson returned to my show to discuss the NAR, its background, and ways to educate people worldwide about it. This is a very special interview of major importance. As the United States faces yet another showdown over the federal debt ceiling, we examine the roots of the conflict by looking at the "North/Paul Strategy," a decades-old plan to provoke a financial collapse and then seize power. Rooted in libertarian economic theory and Christian Reconstructionist doctrine, Gary North and Ron Paul's ideas laid the foundation for the Tea Party and later, January 6th. Dave chats with James Scaminaci III, a scholar and expert on Fourth Generation Warfare, and Frederick Clarkson, who has been studying religious extremism for decades, and is an expert on the New Apostolic Reformation. They look at why economic eschatology is a persistent feature of American political life, and how we might break the vicious "cycle of doom." There are an estimated 40 million Americans and approximately 650 million people worldwide involved with Pentecostal/ Charismatic groups led by a prophet or apostle who claims to get direct revelations from God. Most of these fulfill the BITE model of Authoritarian Control criteria. Some of these folks see themselves as “spiritual warriors” and are convinced other people who wish to have human rights (women who wish to have control of their bodies, gay marriage, and reject theocracy) are satanic/ demonic forces. Dr. André Gagné, professor in theological studies at Concordia University (Montréal) teams up for this interview with Frederick Clarkson, Senior Research Analyst at Political Research Associates who has been reporting on the rise of the theocratic Christian Right for four decades. Yesterday, primary elections were held in Wyoming and Alaska, and the results are pretty much what we expected. But there were some unusual voting patterns in parts of Wyoming, so this morning I called the one person I know there. My old friend Mark "Fish" Fishman is Program Director and hosts mornings on KMTN 96.9FM in Jackson. I'll play back part of our conversation and, if time permits, my later conversation with his boss and newsman Scott Anderson. Then we'll turn our attention to the crazy religious zealotry I mentioned in the title of the episode. Frederick Clarkson was on with me just over a month ago, after he wrote a piece in Salon about Pennsylvania's Republican gubernatorial nominee Doug Mastriano, who's as out there as they come. Well, now Fred has published an article at ReligionDispatches.org about a rift within the New Apostolic Refomation. We'll check in with Fred again because this is a movement we must not only keep an eye on, but have to counter.

The US Extreme Court, formerly known as Supreme, has decimated some of the principles upon which this nation was founded. Today, we focus on the illegitimate three (and their three accomplices) who have, with some of their recent rulings, decimated the separation of church and state and with it the First Amendment's Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause. The Establishment clause prohibits the government from "establishing" a religion. The Free Exercise Clause protects citizens' right to practice their religion as they please, so long as the practice does not run afoul of a "public morals" or a "compelling" governmental interest. They did this in two cases announced in the last two weeks: one that said a high school football coach did not run afoul of the constitution when he had players gather on the 50-yard line after games for a Christian prayer, and another saying that the state of Maine must pay for religious schools if no public school is available in the district where a student lives. As horrible as all of that is, it doesn't include the dangerous sect of Christianity that' positioning itself to impose their religious dogma on the rest of us. It's not just Christianity, but Dominionism and New Apostolic Reformation that's invading every sector of government, as is their plan. Frederick Clarkson wrote about this trend and the Republican nominee for Governor of Pennsylvania, Doug Mastriano, who takes this religious perversion to new extremes. And, oh yeah, another mass shooting at a 4th of July parade in Highland Park, IL yesterday, killing six and injuring dozens... Welcome to the new Gilead of America...
Frederick Clarkson is one of the foremost experts on Christian Dominionism in the United States (“Dominionism” is the theocratic idea that Christians are called by God to exercise dominion over every aspect of society by taking control of political and cultural institutions). Fred is a journalist and the author of the classic "Eternal Hostility: The Struggle Between Theocracy and Democracy." He broke the story of Project Blitz, a coalition of conservative Christian groups working to enact Dominionist legislation in state & local legislatures across the U.S., and helped set up BlitzWatch.org to monitor, track, and defeat attempts by Christian Nationalists to implement their distorted view of religious freedom. In this interview, we talk about the contemporary politics of Dominionism. We talk about how we got here and why Dominionists are exerting so much power and influence in public life. This week's episode features another super informative--and potentially disturbing--conversation with returning guest, Fred Clarkson of the Political Research Associates. Matt Shea is a former Republican state legislator from my home state of Washington, up in the Pacific Northwest. He's long been a lightning rod for controversy in his own right, and a few years ago drew nationwide attention for his connection to some very far-right causes. But now, Fred has uncovered a new and potentially more disturbing connection in the person of Timothy Taylor, a New Apostolic Reformation "apostle" who is also a major proponent of the 7 mountains dominion mandate theology. That the two men are now apparently working together for some agenda is an area of major concern, and something to keep a close eye on moving forward. You'll learn more about both men, and what they're working on, in this very educational episode. Join the MindShift Podcast Community on Patreon!
