Send us a text[What was it like to defend clients in prosecutions arising out of events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021? A discussion with defense counsel Rocco Cipparone and Angie Levy]Following the events at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, the federal government initiated one of the largest investigations and prosecutions in American history, ultimately charging nearly 1,600 defendants. Those charges resulted in about 1,270 convictions (most, for misdemeanor offenses). Upon entering Office on January 21, 2025, President Trump fulfilled a campaign promise in granting clemency to these defendants—pardoning or commuting the sentences of those convicted, and ordering the dismissal, by the U.S. Department of Justice, of remaining pending cases. We had the opportunity to talk with two guests who had a front-row seat to the January 6 prosecutions, through their representation of clients in January 6 trials held in federal court in Washington, D.C. Rocco Cipparone and Angie Levy are two well-regarded and respected members of the Philadelphia and New Jersey criminal defense communities, and recognized as terrific trial lawyers. It was a great pleasure to have them with us to discuss the January 6 prosecutions.

This week Taylor spoke with John Protevi about his recently published book, Regimes of Violence: Toward a Political Anthropology. John is professor of French studies and philosophy at Louisiana State University. He is author of Political Affect; Life, War, Earth; and Edges of the State, all published by the University of Minnesota Press. Book Summary: A wide-ranging examination of the roots—and possible future—of violence in human societies Is aggression inevitable among humans? In Regimes of Violence, John Protevi explores how human violence originates and exists in our societies. Taking humans as biocultural (that is, our social practices shape our bodies and minds), he shows how aggression does not arrive from any purely biological predisposition but rather occurs only in social regimes of violence that, by manipulating the ways in which culture can shape our biological inheritance of rage and aggression, condition the forms of violence able to be expressed at any one time. Offering detailed insights into human aggression throughout history, Protevi's analysis ranges from evolutionary psychology to affective ideology and finally to an alternate politics of joy. He examines a wide range of seemingly disparate topics, such as cooperation between early nomadic foragers, organized sports, berserkers and blackout rages, the experiences of maroons escaping slavery, the January 6 invasion of the United States Capitol building, and responses to the Covid-19 pandemic. As he entwines the philosophical with the anthropological, he asks readers to consider why humans' capacity for cooperation and sharing is so persistently overlooked by stories that focus on aggression and warfare. Regimes of Violence is an important contribution to studies of Deleuze and Guattari, uniquely combining cutting-edge investigations in psychology, history, evolutionary theory, cultural anthropology, and philosophy to examine the “political philosophy of the mind.” Presenting to readers a refreshingly optimistic perspective, Protevi demonstrates that we are not doomed to war and argues that humans can build a world based on antifascism, joy, and mutual empowerment. “I do feel we have an obligation to speak up,” Alexandra Stein, PhD said on this episode of Cult Conversations: The Influence Continuum, “and it's tough for people to resist these systems when there is total silence, and that's what these systems kind of rely on.” Alexandra exited a ten year stint in a left wing political cult when she was 36 years old. Alexandra is a writer and educator specializing in the social psychology of ideological extremism and other dangerous social relationships. Her latest book, Terror, Love, and Brainwashing: Attachment in Cults and Totalitarian Systems, was released as a second edition in 2021. She is also the author of Inside Out: A Memoir of Entering and Breaking Out of a Minneapolis Political Cult. She presented her statement for the Congressional Record for the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol titled Political Cults and the Use of Cultic Tactics in the Recruitment and Mobilization of Participants in the January 6 Attack on the Capitol. Based in the UK, Stein is one of a growing number of ex cult members who have become academics who wish to share their expertise with others. A Fascinating conversation. What if everything you've been taught about America's founding was incomplete? What if our monuments, buildings, and founding documents contain evidence of a deeply Christian heritage that has been systematically erased from public education? This episode takes listeners on a fascinating journey through America's architectural treasures – from the biblical inscriptions inside the Washington Monument to the Ten Commandments engraved above the Supreme Court chamber, from paintings of prayer and Bible reading in the Capitol Rotunda to the towering Forefathers Monument in Plymouth that few Americans even know exists. The evidence is literally carved in stone: America was founded as a Christian nation. Fisher Ames, who worded the First Amendment's Establishment Clause, believed the Bible should be the primary textbook in schools. John Jay, our first Supreme Court Chief Justice, stated that Christians have both the privilege and duty to elect Christian leaders. These weren't religious extremists but the very architects of American liberty. As we explore these forgotten monuments, we also examine how Bible illiteracy has allowed revisionist history to flourish. Without knowledge of Scripture, we miss countless biblical references in our founding documents, presidential addresses, and national symbols. This knowledge gap has enabled the false narrative of America as a secular nation from its inception. The episode weaves together this historical exploration with timeless spiritual wisdom from the book of Philemon about free will, love, and our relationship with Christ. Jesse emphasizes that just as Paul wouldn't force Philemon to free his slave but appealed to his heart, God doesn't force our love either – He offers it freely, waiting for our response.Whether you're a history enthusiast, a person of faith concerned about America's direction, or simply someone who wants to understand the complete story of our national heritage, this episode will challenge assumptions and inspire a deeper appreciation for the biblical principles woven throughout American history. Listen, learn, and consider how reconnecting with these roots might help secure liberty for future generations.Support the showThe American Soul Podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1791934/subscribe

One of President Donald Trump's first actions as president was simple and sweeping: pardoning 1,500 people convicted of offenses related to the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. That single executive action undid years of work and investigation by the FBI, US prosecutors, and one person in particular: Tim Heaphy.Heaphy was the lead investigative counsel for the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, and he's arguably done more than anyone to piece together what happened that day. His work helped inform related cases that were brought against rioters, Trump administration officials, and even Trump himself. In the first episode of More To The Story, Heaphy talks to host Al Letson about how Trump swept aside those consequences; the overlap between the January 6 attack and the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia; and what Trump's pardons mean for the country going forward.Check out the Reveal episode Viral Lies, in which we dig into the origins of “Stop the Steal.”Support our journalism at Revealnews.org/donatenowSubscribe to our weekly newsletter to get the scoop on new episodes at Revealnews.org/weeklyInstagramMore To The Story team:Kara McGuirk-Allison, Josh Sanburn, Al Letson Taki Telonidis, Brett Myers, Fernando Arruda, Jim Briggs, Nikki Frick, Kate Howard, Artis Curiskis Learn about your ad choices: dovetail.prx.org/ad-choices

Jake Chansley - Qanon ShamanSep 11, 2023With Qanon still maintaining a grip of a sizeable number of people, The Opperman Report thought it would be interesting to catch up with the iconic Jacob Chansley, who many will recall was the man in the painted face and horns who was pictured in the House of Congress on January 6th, 2021.In a fascinating interview, Chansley talks about his motivations and beliefs, and why Qanon has become such a movement.Jacob Chansley also known under the name Jake Angeli, and as the QAnon Shaman, Q Shaman,d Yellowstone Wolf, is an American alt-right conspiracy theorist and activist who participated in the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol, which he was convicted of felony charges of obstructing an official proceeding. He has been a supporter of President Donald Trump and a believer and disseminator of the QAnon conspiracy theory.Chansley attended demonstrations in the Phoenix, Arizona, area starting around 2019, in particular in a march for climate. At rallies, he promoted conspiracy theories supporting Trump, and he has been a counterprotestor at Black Lives Matter events. His appearance, with face paint utilizing the colors and symbols of the American flag and a headdress made of animal fur, helped to establish his shaman nicknames. After being photographed taking part in the January 6 storming of the Capitol, Chansley was arrested on January 9 on federal charges of "knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and with violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds". He pleaded guilty to a single charge in September, and was sentenced to 41 months (3.4 yr) in prison in November 2021. He served out a portion of his sentence at Federal Correctional Institution - Safford in Safford, Arizona, and was transferred to a halfway house on March 28, 2023, from which he was released on May 25, 2023.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.
The people who mounted an attack on American Democracy, tried to steal the voice of the people by interrupting certification of the vote, smashed our nation's capitol building and left it smeared with bodily fluids, attacked Capitol police and left them mentally shaken to the point of self harm, and threatened the lives of our elected representatives…they all just got big fat pardon from Trump. In a disgusting anti-American display, Trump ordered “a full, complete and unconditional pardon to all other individuals convicted of offenses related to events that occurred at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.”About 1,500 were pardoned, including members of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers who had been convicted of seditious conspiracy against America. We'll dive deep into this with Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist and author David Cay Johnston. The Mark Thompson Show 1/21/25Patreon subscribers are the backbone of the show! If passed, the region will become the twelfth state in India to have an anti-conversion law. The measure requires people to tell officials if they are converting to another religion, two months in advance! The law also punishes attempts at unlawful conversions, like fraud or force, with up to 10 years in prison. The panel discussion included Anja Hoffmann, Executive Director of the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians in Europe. Hoffman highlighted religious freedom violations in Europe like Finland's prosecution of a Christian politician for tweeting a Bible verse and the U.K.'s conviction of a pro-lifer for praying silently outside an abortion mill. Dr. Gudrun Kugler, an Austrian member of Parliament, also spoke on the panel. She warned that “there are a number of legal restrictions on religious freedom, including parental rights, across Europe.” Participants agreed that the European Union should create a position for combating anti-Christian hate crimes. Haitian warlord orders massacre of 180 elderly Yet another gruesome gang horror has played out in Haiti, as at least 184 people -- most of them elderly -- were variously slashed, hacked, or shot to death on the orders of a warlord who'd been advised that aging slum residents had used sorcery to give his son a severe illness, reports ZeroHedge.com. Interim Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé called it “a barbaric act of unbearable cruelty.” The brutality was reportedly ordered by Monel "Mikano" Felix, who leads the Wharf Jeremie gang. The carnage took place last Friday and Saturday in the densely-populated seaside slum of Cité Soleil, a neighborhood in the capital city of Port-au-Prince which The Guardian has called Haiti's "most notorious slum. Much of the slum is an open sewer where infant children bathe in water contaminated with sewage. The stench is unbearable.” In a statement to the Haitian Times, members of Haiti's Committee for Peace and Development said Felix's son had contracted a serious illness. When Felix sought the counsel of a Voodoo priest, he advised the murderous warlord that elderly people in the gang's area of operations were harming his son through the use of witchcraft. That's when "he decided to cruelly punish all the elderly people and Vodou practitioners who, in his imagination, might be capable of sending an evil spell to his son.” Isaiah 8:19-20 says, “When they say to you, ‘Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,' should not a people consult their God? . . . To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” FBI Director Christopher Wray announces resignation FBI Director Christopher Wray confirmed Wednesday that he will be resigning from his post before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20, reports TheBlaze.com. WRAY: “After weeks of careful thought, I've decided the right thing for the Bureau is for me to serve until the end of the current administration in January, and then step down. “My goal is to keep the focus on our mission, on the indispensable work each of you is doing every single day. And in my view, this is the best way to avoid dragging the Bureau deeper into the fray, while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important in how we do our work.” Wray announced he will resign just seven years into his 10-year term in the aftermath of external pressure for him to step down, most notably from Trump. Trump has instead decided to nominate Kash Patel for the role, indicating to Wray that he would either have to resign early or be fired. Trump nominated Wray to take over as FBI director in 2017 during his first presidential term. At the time, Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey after he launched the now-debunked investigation into the Russia hoax in 2016. Trump unlikely to restrict the Abortion kill Pill NBC's Kristen Welker interviewed Donald Trump for “Meet the Press” on Sunday. When asked about the Abortion Kill Pill, Trump said he probably would not try to restrict access to medication abortions. Listen. WELKER: “Let's talk about abortion. Sir, you have taken responsibility for overturning Roe v Wade. You've said that abortion is now a state issue. There are steps that you could take though as President to restrict abortion through executive action without Congress. More than half of abortions in this country are medication abortions. Will you restrict the availability of abortion pills when you're in office? TRUMP: “I'll probably stay with exactly what I've been saying for the last two years. And the answer is no.” However, Trump was not willing to make a commitment to that, saying that things can change. Nativity displayed at U.S. Capitol for first time And finally, a Nativity was displayed at the U.S. Capitol for the first time in history. Organizers held a “Christmas Carols and Nativity Display” event yesterday on the southeastern steps of the Capitol building. The historic event happened thanks to the work of Rev. Patrick Mahoney. He won a federal court victory back in May, allowing peaceful demonstrations on the steps of the Capitol building. Mahoney, the Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, talked to The Worldview last night. MAHONEY: “We are so very thankful for the opportunity to share the joyful and powerful message of Christmas at the steps of the United States Capitol. … The words spoken by the prophet Isaiah centuries ago are still relevant for us today. ‘For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.'” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, December 12th, in the year of our Lord 2024. pWotD Episode 2750: Elise Stefanik Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 323,020 views on Monday, 11 November 2024 our article of the day is Elise Stefanik.Elise Marie Stefanik ( stə-FAH-nick; born July 2, 1984) is an American politician serving as the U. S. representative for New York's 21st congressional district. As chair of the House Republican Conference since 2021, she is the fourth-ranking House Republican. Stefanik's district covers most of the North Country and the Adirondack Mountains, some of the outer suburbs of Utica and the Capital District in New York. In addition to being the first woman to occupy her House seat, Stefanik was 30 when first elected to the House in 2014, making her the youngest woman elected to Congress at the time.Initially elected as a moderate conservative, Stefanik has moved considerably towards the right, as she aligned herself with the then-President Donald Trump. She strongly opposed the first impeachment of Trump in 2019 amid the Trump–Ukraine scandal and backed Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election, objecting to Pennsylvania's electoral votes after Trump supporters were involved in the 2021 United States Capitol attack. As the U. S. House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack began to investigate, Stefanik claimed that Speaker Nancy Pelosi was responsible for the attack. Stefanik was elected chair of the House Republican Conference in May 2021 after incumbent Liz Cheney was removed due to her opposition to President Trump.Stefanik gained national attention in December 2023 for her intense questioning of university presidents during a widely televised U. S. congressional hearing on antisemitism. Stefanik's questioning contributed to the resignation of Liz Magill, the president of the University of Pennsylvania. In November 2024, CNN reported that Trump had offered Stefanik the position of United States ambassador to the United Nations. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:32 UTC on Tuesday, 12 November 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Elise Stefanik on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Brian.
pWotD Episode 2745: 2020 United States presidential election Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 3,943,922 views on Wednesday, 6 November 2024 our article of the day is 2020 United States presidential election. The 2020 United States presidential election was the 59th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. The Democratic ticket of former vice president Joe Biden and the junior U. S. senator from California Kamala Harris defeated the incumbent Republican president Donald Trump, and vice president Mike Pence. The election took place against the backdrop of the global COVID-19 pandemic and related recession. The election saw the highest voter turnout by percentage since 1900. Biden received more than 81 million votes, the most votes ever cast for a candidate in a U. S. presidential election. In a competitive primary that featured the most candidates for any political party in the modern era of American politics, Biden secured the Democratic presidential nomination. Biden's running mate, Harris, became the first African-American, first Asian-American, and third female vice presidential nominee on a major party ticket. Trump secured re-nomination, getting a total of 2,549 delegates, one of the most in presidential primary history, in the Republican primaries. Jo Jorgensen secured the Libertarian presidential nomination with Spike Cohen as her running mate, and Howie Hawkins secured the Green presidential nomination with Angela Nicole Walker as his running mate. The central issues of the election included the public health and economic impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; civil unrest in reaction to the police murder of George Floyd and others; the Supreme Court following the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett; and the future of the Affordable Care Act. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a record number of ballots were cast early and by mail. Thirty-eight states had over half of all votes cast using these methods, and only three states had fewer than 25%.Many more registered Democrats voted by mail than registered Republicans. As a result of a large number of mail-in ballots, some swing states saw delays in vote counting and reporting; this led to major news outlets delaying their projection of Biden and Harris as the president-elect and vice president-elect until the morning of November 7. Major media networks project a state for a candidate once there is high statistical confidence that the outstanding vote would be unlikely to prevent the projected winner from ultimately winning that state.Biden received the majority in the Electoral College with 306 electoral votes, while Trump received 232. Trump was the first president to lose re-election since George H. W. Bush in 1992. Key to Biden's victory were his wins in the Democratic-leaning Rust Belt states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, which Trump narrowly carried in 2016 and whose combined 46 electoral votes were enough to swing the election to either candidate. Biden also became the first Democrat to win a presidential election in Georgia since 1992 and in Arizona since 1996, as well as Nebraska's 2nd congressional district since 2008.Before, during, and after Election Day, Trump and numerous other Republicans engaged in an aggressive and unprecedented attempt to subvert the election and overturn the results, falsely alleging widespread voter fraud and trying to influence the vote-counting process in swing states in what has been described as an attempted self-coup d'état. Attorney General William Barr and officials in each of the 50 states found no evidence of fraud (widespread or otherwise) or irregularities in the election. Federal agencies overseeing election security said it was the most secure in American history. The Trump campaign and its allies, including Republican members of Congress, continued to attempt to overturn the results of the election by filing numerous lawsuits in several states (most of which were withdrawn or dismissed), spreading conspiracy theories alleging fraud, pressuring Republican state election officials (including, notably, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in a phone call that later became widely publicized) and legislators to change results, pressuring the Department of Justice to declare the election "corrupt" and intervene, objecting to the Electoral College certification in Congress, and refusing to cooperate with the presidential transition of Biden. With Trump vowing that he would never concede the election and after exhorting his followers to "fight like hell", a mob of Trump supporters attacked the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, during the joint session of Congress held to certify the Electoral College count. On January 7, Trump acknowledged the incoming administration without mentioning Biden's name. Biden and Harris were inaugurated on January 20, 2021; in a break from tradition, Trump did not attend his successor's inauguration. Trump was indicted on August 1, 2023, on four counts relating to conspiring to overturn the results. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:12 UTC on Thursday, 7 November 2024.For the full current version of the article, see 2020 United States presidential election on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Russell.

Fox News and its prominent on-air personality Tucker Carlson have come under sharp scrutiny for their role in perpetuating falsehoods regarding the 2020 United States presidential election. In a development that underscores the intricate relationship between media narratives and viewer engagement, it has been revealed that both the network and Carlson advanced misleading claims about voter fraud, despite internal doubts about the veracity of such assertions. The 2020 election, held amidst the unprecedented circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, witnessed a historic turnout and an equally historic amount of scrutiny and controversy. Former President Donald Trump and his allies launched a broad, unrelenting campaign contesting the election's outcome, centered around unproven allegations of widespread electoral fraud. This campaign found a receptive audience in various corners of the media landscape, with Fox News and Tucker Carlson emerging as key voices amplifying these disputed claims.Evidence has surfaced indicating that Fox News and Carlson were aware that the narrative of voter fraud they promoted was not supported by facts. Despite this knowledge, they chose to prioritize viewer engagement over journalistic integrity. Internal communications and testimonies have shed light on the tension between the need to adhere to factual reporting and the pressure to cater to an audience deeply invested in Trump's narrative of a stolen election. This revelation has sparked intense debate over the responsibility of media entities in safeguarding democratic processes. Critics argue that by disseminating unfounded claims, Fox News and Carlson not only misled their viewers but also contributed to the erosion of trust in the electoral system. This erosion manifested most violently in the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the United States Capitol, an event fueled by the very falsehoods the network propagated. The aftermath of these revelations sees Fox News and Tucker Carlson facing not only public backlash but also legal scrutiny. The role of misinformation in the post-election period and its potential to incite unrest has become a focal point of legal and legislative inquiries. As these investigations proceed, they raise crucial questions about the balance between free speech and the responsibility media organizations have to disseminate truthful information. The broader implications for the media landscape are profound. This situation underscores the challenges modern media outlets face in a highly polarized political climate, where truth can sometimes become a casualty to viewer loyalty and engagement metrics. It also serves as a cautionary tale about the potential consequences of placing partisan objectives above journalistic standards. As the country continues to grapple with the fallout of the 2020 election and its aftermath, the revelations surrounding Fox News and Tucker Carlson's dissemination of election fraud falsehoods serve as a stark reminder of the power of media and the importance of upholding truth in the public discourse. The ongoing discussions and legal proceedings may well set precedents for how media organizations navigate the delicate balance between editorial liberty and factual accuracy in the future.
For Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, service to country has been the guiding principle of his life and career — first as a member of the armed forces, and later as a lawmaker in the halls of Congress. When the strength of the nation was tested on January 6th, 2021 and in the months following, Kinzinger took his sworn oath further, boldly demonstrating an exceedingly rare loyalty to country over party. As one of only two Republicans on the January 6th Committee, Rep. Kinzinger stood against his own party in pursuit of democracy and justice. Shortly after the insurrection at the Capitol, Congressman Kinzinger started the Country First movement, which has grown rapidly to over 100,000 members today and counting. From 2011-2022, Congressman Kinzinger served six terms in the United States House of Representatives, where he proudly represented Illinois' Sixteenth Congressional District, which stretches across 14 counties in Northern Illinois. While in Congress, Kinzinger served as a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he served as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, Energy and the Environment in the 116th Congress. He also served on the non-partisan Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. His top priorities included strengthening U.S. energy policy and making our nation less reliant on foreign resources as well as bolstering the strength of our national security –both at home and abroad.Prior to being elected to Congress, Kinzinger served in the Air Force in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Kinzinger continues to serve his country as a pilot in the Air National Guard, with the current rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and balanced this service with his duties in Congress.During his time in Congress, Kinzinger worked tirelessly for IL-16, and for the security of our nation. From getting veterans back to work, to combatting the opioid epidemic, Congressman Kinzinger fought for his constituents and stood up for America, keeping his oath to protect and defend our Constitution.✖️✖️✖️Support the Show: Patreon.com/PreacherBoys✖️✖️✖️If you or someone you know has experienced abuse, visit courage365.org/need-help✖️✖️✖️CONNECT WITH THE SHOW:preacherboyspodcast.comhttps://www.youtube.com/@PreacherBoyshttps://www.facebook.com/preacherboysdoc/https://twitter.com/preacherboysdochttps://www.instagram.com/preacherboyspodhttps://www.tiktok.com/@preacherboyspodTo connect with a community that shares the Preacher Boys Podcast's mission to expose abuse in the IFB, join the OFFICIAL Preacher Boys Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1403898676438188/✖️✖️✖️The content presented in this video is for informational and educational purposes only. The US Capitol building is a powerful physical symbol of representative democracy, with its famous dome one of America's most iconic architectural feats. The solidity and dependability of that symbol, however, belie the dynamic history of the ever-changing building itself. Alan Hantman, architect of the Capitol from 1997 to 2007, joins David M. Rubenstein to provide a personal account of the inner workings of the Capitol, shedding light on who runs the building, how and why it changes over time, and how it has endured crises such as the 1998 US Capitol shooting, 9/11, and January 6. And we're gonna go after the crazies in the political environment that do not have the interest of the country at heart." - Adam Kinzinger Rep. Adam Kinzinger served with integrity during his time in the U.S. Congress as well as the Air Force. Yet, the mere mention of his name sends a certain ex-President (HINT: rhymes with Shmump) as well as many of that ex-prez's most loyal followers into a rage. So it was a special honor for us to speak with former Congressman Kinzinger. Having served in Congress from 2011 to 2023 and on notable committees such as the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol attack, he discusses the challenges of political extremism, the importance of compromise, and his journey from a conservative upbringing to questioning his beliefs, while staying true to deeply rooted, unimpeachable values. He addresses the toxicity of social media, the need for reconciliation across political and religious spectrums, and his work with Country First, aimed at promoting democracy and moderating political discourse. Adam's reflections on his faith, encounters with extremism, and the significance of genuine conversation across differences provide a nuanced perspective on navigating the complexities of current American political and religious landscapes. Congressman Adam Kinzinger served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2023, representing Illinois' 16th Congressional District. Vice President Kamala Harris took center stage at the Democratic National Convention on its fourth and final night in Chicago, officially accepting her nomination for president. In a powerful keynote address, Harris commanded the room, highlighting her journey from a middle-class neighborhood, raised by a hardworking mother, to her current role, and introducing her vision for the future. Harris also told Americans what she says would happen if former President Donald Trump were to be voted back into office: "Donald Trump tried to throw away your votes. When he failed, he sent an armed mob to the United States Capitol, where they assaulted law enforcement officers. And now, for an entirely different set of crimes, he was found guilty of fraud by a jury of everyday Americans and separately found liable for committing sexual abuse. And consider, consider what he intends to do if we give him power again." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Watching the footage of the January 6 insurrection, Professor Bradley Onishi wondered: If I hadn't left evangelicalism, would I have been there? Today's book is: Preparing for War: The Extremist History of White Christian Nationalism—and What Comes Next (Broadleaf Books, 2023), by Dr. Bradley Onishi, which unpacks recent U.S. history to show how the insurrection at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021 was not a blip or an aberration. It was the logical outcome of years of a White evangelical subculture's preparation for war. Religion scholar and former insider Bradley Onishi maps the origins of White Christian nationalism and traces its offshoots. Combining his own experiences in the youth groups and prayer meetings of the 1990s with an immersive look at the steady blending of White grievance politics with evangelicalism, Dr. Onishi crafts an engrossing account of the years-long campaign of White Christian nationalism that led to January 6. How did the rise of what Onishi calls the New Religious Right, between 1960 and 2015, give birth to violent White Christian nationalism during the Trump presidency and beyond? What propelled some of the most conservative religious communities in the country—communities of which Dr. Onishi was once a part—to ignite a cold civil war? Through chapters on White supremacy and segregationist theologies, conspiracy theories, the Christian-school movement, purity culture, and the right-wing media ecosystem, Professor Onishi pulls back the curtain on a subculture. Our guest is: Dr. Brad Onishi, who is a scholar of religion and cohost of the Straight White American Jesus podcast. His writing has been published in the New York Times, LA Review of Books, and Religion & Politics, among other outlets. He holds degrees from Azusa Pacific University, Oxford University, and L'institut catholique de Paris, and received his PhD from the University of California at Santa Barbara. A TEDx speaker and the author, editor, or translator of four previous books, Dr. Onishi teaches at the University of San Francisco. He lives in the Bay Area with his wife and daughter. Our host is: Dr. Christina Gessler, the producer of the Academic Life podcast. She holds a PhD in history, which she uses to explore what stories we tell (and why) and what happens to those we never tell. The ominously named Wallbuilders organization, founded by David Barton, have a mission to “[help] Americans remember and preserve the true history of our great nation.” That's great I guess, but what exactly is it that they… do? One of their main cultural outputs seems to be a documentary series affirming the Christian history of the United States, so we at Boys' Bible Study couldn't think of a more fun and enlightening way to celebrate Fourth of July than spending two hours absorbing THE SPIRITUAL HERITAGE OF THE UNITED STATES CAPITOL. Basically, someone let David Barton in the Capitol Building in Washington D.C., and he spent his night there filming a guided tour of the art and artifacts within the space, showing how each piece proves that the mission of the Founding Fathers was explicitly Christian. We learned a ton about the Christian habits and exploits of the greatest guys of all time, and we see fun art objects such as a painting of the baptism of Pocahontas, and a cool statue of an astronaut (not Christian.) Curiously, David Barton and the Wallbuilders never say in the documentary what the conclusion is that they draw from poring over all of this evidence. It seems like they want to say that the idea of a separation between church and state should be abolished, but they don't ever actually say that — instead, they just kind of drone on about how it's sad that public schools don't teach that John Quincy Adams read the Bible once per year. Despite there being some genuinely interesting facts dispensed, and they filmed fun historical reenactments of guys in powdered wigs talking about stuff, we can't help but conclude that if the Founding Fathers thought Christianity should be the explicit law of the United States, they would have written it in the damn Constitution. No one was stopping them. Next! It defies comprehension that the person who incited an attack on the United States Capitol building and everyone who was in it on January 6, 2021, performing their constitutional duty of certifying the results of a presidential election, would have the temerity to return to the scene of his crime in hopes that he could regain the reigns of governmental power. What's worse, congressional Republicans bowed-down to Trump, in their cowardly and unpatriotic determination to get themselves reelected. One of the questions that will haunt our nation for generations to come is: how can there only be two congressional Republicans - Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger - who care more about the health and viability of American democracy than they care about their own reelection prospects? Glenn also asks - when will these OTHER congressional criminals get charged for their part in the January 6th conspiracy? If you're interested in supporting our all-volunteer efforts, you can become a Team Justice patron at: / glennkirschner If you'd like to support us and buy Team Justice and Justice Matters merchandise visit:https://shop.spreadshirt.com/glennkir...Check out Glenn's website at https://glennkirschner.com/Follow Glenn on:Threads: https://www.threads.net/glennkirschner2Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/glennkirschner2Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/glennkirschner2Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/glennkirsch...See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This week Donny is joined by co-host of "The View" and CNN political commentator, Alyssa Farah Griffin. Griffin, who was the White House Director of Strategic Communications and Assistant to the President in 2020, joins Donny for a deep dive into the Trump White House. Griffin, who left her position in December of 2020, discusses her time in the Trump administration, why she decided to resign from her position, election fraud, the attack on the United States Capitol, and why she is worried for the country should Donald Trump be elected president again. In this era of political polarization, the landscape in the United States is marked by the rise of Donald Trump as the frontrunner for the Republican nomination in the 2024 presidential election. This despite Trump facing numerous legal challenges–including over his involvement in the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol. However, Trump and his supporters are but the most visible element. The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is increasingly taking over the religious right movement and, in turn, influencing the Republican Party, which holds implications for Christianity and the future of democracy. The NAR is closely aligned with those who are on a mission to take over democracy worldwide under the guise of “religious freedom.” Not only are they backing Trump, but Trump is backing them. This movement of politicized Neo-Charismatic Pentecostals (NCP) seeks to assert dominance through their Seven Mountain Mandate, which we've previously discussed. There is a possibility that Trump could once again serve as a conduit for their agenda at the nation's highest office, amplifying the impact of this cult movement towards religious theocracy through the legislative and judicial branches of government at all levels. The theocratic end goals are clearly laid out through Project Blitz, a state-level legislative program primarily led by NAR operatives. André Gagné and Frederick Clarkson returned to my show to discuss the NAR, its background, and ways to educate people worldwide about it. This is a very special interview of major importance. What does it mean to be on the right side of history? That was a question today's guest, Adam Kinzinger, asked himself when he chose to serve on the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol. Kinzinger joins Sharon to discuss his experience serving on the committee to defend democracy, and the personal sacrifice tied to prioritizing principals over party. If members of Congress are willing to send men and women to war to sacrifice their lives for our country, why are so few willing to sacrifice their political careers to do what is right? Special thanks to our guest, Adam Kinzinger, for joining us today.Host/Executive Producer: Sharon McMahonGuest: Adam KinzingerAudio Producer: Jenny Snyder Hosted on Acast.
