In this episode of DairyVoice, host Tim Abbott of Showbox Sires, continues his series The Evolution of the Great Cow and talks with Joan Seidel of Pennsylvania, Rory Timlin of Ireland, and Brent Sayles of Ontario. Holstein show fitters, also called clippers, are skilled individuals who groom dairy cattle using specialized clippers, brushes, and adhesives to highlight their best features for competitions like the World Dairy Expo, focusing on creating level toplines, smooth body coats, and well-styled legs and tails, with techniques involving blow-drying against the hair and clipping in precise patterns to enhance breed conformation and overall appearance for judges. All three of these fitters are well-known in the industry, but have unique experiences to share. They discuss their many years on the show circuit, what excites them about their jobs, and some of the herds they have worked with around the world. All three share some of the coolest show moments from their past. 

Barry is a University of Texas School of Law graduate and currently works as the Owner of Seidel & Associates. He is also the author of Evolutions of Law Practice: How I Opened My Own Practice Right out of Law School. This episode with Barry Seidel is one that I have been looking forward to for a long time. Barry is a University of Texas School of Law graduate who did something that very few people have the guts to do: he opened his own law practice straight out of law school in 1982 and has been running it for 43 years. Barry takes us through his entire journey, from finding a book in law school that laid out a game plan for going solo without missing a meal, to setting up shop in a suite of lawyers in Manhattan and hustling for court appearances, to becoming the “King of Queens” after the New York Law Journal put him on the cover for his genius court appearance service business that landed him 275 new clients from 1,300 targeted letters.What makes Barry's story so valuable is that he is the definition of evolving with the times. He started with landlord-tenant work, built a side business making court appearances for other attorneys, and has continuously adapted his practice over four decades, all while staying a solo practitioner. It's been common wisdom in endurance sports that the further the race distance gets, the longer it takes to figure it out. But every rule needs an exception to prove it and on this count one needs look no further than the career of Molly Seidel.  After a gold-studded NCAA career at Notre Dame winning titles at 3000, 5000, 10000 and cross country, Seidel's star only seemed to rise higher as the distances grew greater. She made her marathon debut in 2020 at the US Olympic Trials, proving a quick-study at the event with a stunning 2nd placing showing and a spot on the US Olympic Team headed to Tokyo.  A year and a half later, at those pandemic-postponed Olympic Games, She'd once again outperform expectations to run away from the best of the best en route to a brilliant bronze medal. Fast forward to today and it seems her reputation for moving up in distance and throwing down continues to hold true, even with yet another change of surface. In January she marked the start of a new chapter on the trail scene with a win and course record clocking at the Banderas 50k in Texas. Weeks later, she would take another huge leap forward at the famously competitive Black Canyon 100k in Arizona.  Facing some of the best trail talent in the world, Seidel turned a lack of experience into gold, claiming a 4th-place finish and snagging an elusive “Golden Ticket”, securing her a place in the biggest ultra of them all, the 100-mile Western States Endurance Run.  Today, Molly joins the show to recap her incredible rise through the trail running ranks, what it's looked like to double her race distance with every start, and how she's applying the lessons of a legendary career on the roads and track to a the new challenges of the trails. In 2026, everything is different. AI is scaling both research and publishing productivity. Impact factors no longer matter. Big name journal publishers launch offspring journals with little credentials other than the brand. How should we make sense of all this to figure out which journals are really important to our field? It is time for a new, rigorous ranking of IS journals.
