In “How Humanoid Robots are Shaping the Future of Logistics”, Joe Lynch and Parker Conroy, Head of Product at Apptronik, discuss how Apollo, a human-centered, AI-powered humanoid robot, is set to transform the industry by working alongside humans to fill labor gaps and perform a wide range of tasks in a safe and efficient manner. About Parker Conroy Parker Conroy is the Head of Product at Apptronik, a leading developer of humanoid robots. Conroy has worked in robotics for more than a decade, guiding product management teams to design and deploy thousands of industrial robotic arms, autonomous mobile robots, drones, and now, humanoid robots. Prior to Apptronik, he was Director of Robotics Product Development at Verizon, where he led product management and robotics strategy in 5G and multi-access edge computing. Conroy previously spent five-plus years leading mobile robotics development at Omron Robotics and Safety. His graduate research focused on optimal control of UAV swarms, which led him directly into developing teams that designed the features of one of the first industrial autonomous fleet control systems. Parker's experience guides development roadmaps that target cutting-edge research grounded in reliable architectures, balancing innovation with mature technologies. About Apptronik Apptronik is a human-centered robotics company developing AI-powered humanoid robots. Our goal is to create human helpers to support humanity in every facet of life. Our robot, Apollo, is designed to collaborate thoughtfully with humans—initially in critical industries such as manufacturing and logistics, with future applications in healthcare, the home, and beyond. Apollo is the culmination of nearly a decade of development, drawing on Apptronik's extensive work on 15 previous robots, including NASA's Valkyrie robot. Apptronik started out of the Human Centered Robotics Lab at the University of Texas at Austin and has over 150 employees. Key Takeaways: How Humanoid Robots are Shaping the Future of Logistics Human-Centered Robotics: Apptronik's core philosophy is to create human-centric helpers, not replacements. The company aims for a future where robots and humans work together to enhance human capabilities and improve quality of life, starting in logistics and expanding to other industries. Addressing Labor Shortages: The Apollo humanoid robot is designed to fill critical labor gaps in the logistics and manufacturing sectors. By automating repetitive and physically demanding tasks, it allows human workers to be upskilled to higher-value, more rewarding roles. Humanoid Form Factor Advantage: The humanoid design of Apollo allows it to operate seamlessly within existing, human-centric environments. This eliminates the need for expensive facility redesigns, making integration into warehouses and factories much more efficient compared to other types of robots. Safety and Collaboration: Apollo is equipped with an advanced force control architecture, enabling it to work safely alongside humans in shared spaces. This makes it a "collaborative robot" or "cobot," removing the need for safety cages and allowing for closer interaction with human colleagues. Versatile Platform: Unlike single-purpose robots, Apollo is a general-purpose platform. Its versatile design and AI capabilities mean it can be programmed to handle a wide range of tasks, providing a highly adaptable solution for companies looking to automate various processes. Balanced Innovation: Parker Conroy's extensive experience in robotics ensures that Apptronik's development roadmaps balance cutting-edge research with practical, reliable architectures. This approach guarantees that the products are not only innovative but also robust and ready for real-world deployment. Strong Foundation: Apptronik's origins from the University of Texas's Human Centered Robotics Lab and its extensive history developing 15 previous robots, including NASA's Valkyrie, give it a solid foundation. This academic and research-driven background underpins the rigorous engineering behind the Apollo robot. Terri Conroy is an Irish herbalist, homesteader, and YouTuber under the name Danu's Irish Herb Garden in Connemara, Ireland. After a reading from Irish mythology about reincarnation during the founding invasions of Ireland, we begin with Terri describing the dramatic landscape where she lives & how the likes of her family subsistence farmed along the windy coast; from cutting turf in the bogs for their winter's heating to the use of various herbal remedies. For her first numinous story, she tells of a mysterious night in her youth, when without the cottage window she heard enchanting fairy music. Of course fairies open up folk-mythic conversations about the Tuatha dé Danann, the gods and goddesses of Irish mythology: the salmon of knowledge, fairy trees, Dian Cécht the healing god, and family anecdotes about the fairies in the fields and the ragged ghosts along the roads, ghosts who hearken back to the devastating mid-19th-century potato famine. From there, we hear about the Celtic holidays of the year, highlighting the upcoming summer festival of harvest, sports and crafts, Lughnasadh. We end by ruminating on connecting to one's roots, plant journeys, and the Irish mother goddess, Danu. We're used to tying ourselves in knots as we criss-cross the city for the latest Milwaukee food news, but we hit a new level in this one as we dive into the amazing world of ... pretzels!Milwaukee Pretzel Company pretzels, to be precise, which are well worth the extra effort except for the fact that you don't need to put in quite as much effort to find them these days. You can get them everywhere from local beer gardens to German Fest and grocery stores to their own online store — and rightfully so because they're great. This episode also finds us reeling in news on Fishbone Seafood and Restaurant, which will open its very first sitdown location right here in Milwaukee after literally years of hard work from Bria Grant of UniteWI and her mentor, Master P. Yes, THAT Master P. On top of that, we've got some chat about the Chip's pop-up at Merriment Social that will feature ... well, chips; a new pizza joint called Love at First Slice coming to Sherman Phoenix; a switch from Carbon Steak to The Conroy; and the resurrection of Heirloom MKE's food truck.

It was an ordinary school day—until it wasn't. Twelve-year-old Nikki Conroy should have been safe within the walls of her classroom. Instead, a stranger walked in, armed with a knife and intent on violence. What followed was a terrifying attack that left one child dead, several others traumatised, and an entire nation asking: how could this happen in a school? In this episode, we unravel the chilling events of that March afternoon in 1994 at Hall Garth School in Middlesbrough. We look at the man who brought horror into a place of learning, the moment-by-moment chaos inside that classroom, and the devastating consequences of a system that failed to protect its most vulnerable. "The impression you leave on people is far more important than what you get from them." This powerful philosophy, passed down from father to son, forms the bedrock of Jim's Towing success story. In this inaugural episode of our multi-generational towing family series, we're joined by Jim Conroy and his son William, representing the second and third generations of their family business. From their humble beginnings in 1986 to their current impressive operation spanning three locations (with a fourth on the way) near Charleston, South Carolina, the Conroy family shares how their customer-first approach has built a thriving enterprise with 36 trucks serving communities and even the Naval Weapons Station.Jim reveals how taking over from his father in 2018 taught him invaluable lessons about the business side of towing that he'd never fully appreciated before. Meanwhile, William brings a fresh perspective while honoring the traditions established by his grandfather and father, having literally grown up in the industry – even "towing" his first vehicle at age three and taking a rotator certification class by age six! What makes this conversation particularly meaningful is the focus on values rather than just technical expertise. When customers are having their worst day with a broken-down vehicle and unexpected expenses, the Conroys emphasize patience, respect, and understanding. As Jim explains, "We're not in a very affluential part of Charleston, so it's best for our community that we're not extremely expensive." This community-minded perspective exemplifies why family-owned towing operations remain the backbone of the industry. The episode also touches on the importance of family-oriented industry events and training, with both generations expressing appreciation for opportunities that welcome children and spouses to tow shows, helping foster the next generation's interest in this vital profession.Subscribe to the Towing News Channel, available on Spotify, iTunes, Pandora, Stitcher, iHeartMedia, or wherever you get your podcasts, and join us for more inspiring stories from the towing and recovery industry. He uses an evolutionary perspective to understand how mate preferences are linked to actual mating outcomes. Specifically, he is interested in how mate preferences are integrated with one another computationally in order to make mating decisions. In this episode, we talk about how the manosphere misuses evolutionary psychology research. We start by talking about what the manosphere is, and how they misappropriated Dr. Conroy-Beam's research. We discuss some mysoginist claims, why evolutionary psychology is so appealing to the manosphere, and evolutionary psychologists who align themselves with the manosphere. We talk about the motivations of people who have made a name for themselves in the manosphere, and how the manosphere also hurts the men who are attracted to it. Finally, we discuss what evolutionary psychologist should do to fight back against the misuse of their own research.--A HUGE THANK YOU TO MY PATRONS/SUPPORTERS: PER HELGE LARSEN, JERRY MULLER, BERNARDO SEIXAS, ADAM KESSEL, MATTHEW WHITINGBIRD, ARNAUD WOLFF, TIM HOLLOSY, HENRIK AHLENIUS, FILIP FORS CONNOLLY, ROBERT WINDHAGER, RUI INACIO, ZOOP, MARCO NEVES, COLIN HOLBROOK, PHIL KAVANAGH, SAMUEL ANDREEFF, FRANCIS FORDE, TIAGO NUNES, FERGAL CUSSEN, HAL HERZOG, NUNO MACHADO, JONATHAN LEIBRANT, JOÃO LINHARES, STANTON T, SAMUEL CORREA, ERIK HAINES, MARK SMITH, JOÃO EIRA, TOM HUMMEL, SARDUS FRANCE, DAVID SLOAN WILSON, YACILA DEZA-ARAUJO, ROMAIN ROCH, DIEGO LONDOÑO CORREA, YANICK PUNTER, CHARLOTTE BLEASE, NICOLE BARBARO, ADAM HUNT, PAWEL OSTASZEWSKI, NELLEKE BAK, GUY MADISON, GARY G HELLMANN, SAIMA AFZAL, ADRIAN JAEGGI, PAULO TOLENTINO, JOÃO BARBOSA, JULIAN PRICE, EDWARD HALL, HEDIN BRØNNER, DOUGLAS FRY, FRANCA BORTOLOTTI, GABRIEL PONS CORTÈS, URSULA LITZCKE, SCOTT, ZACHARY FISH, TIM DUFFY, SUNNY SMITH, JON WISMAN, WILLIAM BUCKNER, PAUL-GEORGE ARNAUD, LUKE GLOWACKI, GEORGIOS THEOPHANOUS, CHRIS WILLIAMSON, PETER WOLOSZYN, DAVID WILLIAMS, DIOGO COSTA, ALEX CHAU, AMAURI MARTÍNEZ, CORALIE CHEVALLIER, BANGALORE ATHEISTS, LARRY D.
