How does dance evolve beyond tradition? Harini Nilakantan joins the podcast to explore movement as a mosaic, bridging Bharatanatyam with modern expression. In this episode of TRUST ME I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING, Abhay chats with Chicago-based dancer and choreographer Harini Nilakantan to discuss the intersection of heritage and innovation. Harini, a movement artist and award winning dancer and choreographer, shares her journey of reimagining ancestral storytelling for the modern stage. Instead of viewing dance as a "frozen" time capsule or a rigid discipline, Harini describes her practice as a "mosaic"—a refractive, evolving language that allows different cultural vocabularies to speak to one another without hierarchy. In this episode, we cover:- Why "purity" can be a problematic label in artistic evolution- How to use traditional move sets, such as Tattamettu, to build new rhythmic dialogues- Navigating the pressures of being a "winner" vs. finding success through honest expression- How Harini's upbringing in a polyglot, multi-disciplinary household shaped her identity and movement vocabulary--------------------------Chapters-00:00 Introduction to Harini Nilakantan 03:29 Defining her identity as a movement artist 06:49 Early dance memories and her "why" 11:52 Reimagining tradition through the art of kintsugi 14:58 Challenging inertia in classical dance forms 17:25 How her dance practice has evolved 20:16 Sponsor break: Travelopod21:37 Unlearning audience preconceptions 27:41 Cultural influences and Harini's upbringing 33:15 Redefining success beyond trophies 36:59 Observer, student, teacher of dance39:35 Building trust and expanding the lexiconConnect with Harini:https://harini-nilakantan.com Support the Show: If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe and leave a review on Apple or Spotify or wherever you podcast!TRUST ME I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING is proudly brought to you by TRAVELOPOD, with personalized travel support to help you explore the wonders of the world. "The project was seventeen and a half thousand square meters, filmed and photographed by a NASA satellite, that's how big it was! " Lee Bofkin is the CEO and co-founder of Global Street Art, Europe's leading painting company who's produced over 3000 public artworks for global brands, working with world class artists – and on a mission to live in painted cities. But what makes Lee interesting isn't just the company he's built. It's the way he thinks. For context, Lee is a former UK breakdancer with a PhD in Evolutionary Mathematics and passionate documentarian, turned co founder - oh and his dog is called Paintbrush. Love it!This episode isn't just about street art, it's about heart, craft and the sheer determination of what it takes to build and sustain a business slap bang at the intersection of art and commerce. Lee shares the happenstance of meeting his co-founder, how in the early days he was scaling iconic buildings with street artists come rain, sleet and shine, as well as supporting the now recognisable names in culture before they got famous, like Sam, AKA Mr Doodle, Gary Stranger & Marija Tiurina - to now, needing to take a more birds-eye view on the business and its P+L… a familiar story to founders ;)At GSA, Lee has built the system that connects artists, cities and organisations - turning something that once existed on the fringes into a recognised part of the cultural economy. For the last 12 years GSA has grown globally in size and stature to be commissioned by the who's who in brand land from Valentino to Spotify, Burberry to Netflix, we're talking Don Julio x Peggy Gou murals, to Fendi takeovers in the Miami Design District. On GSA channels, they describe themselves as “Human-powered and handmade"– and in this conversation with Lee, we know you'll hear and feel the humanity all over it!So, hit the play button and meet the incomparable Dr. Lee Bofkin. A two-time TEDx speaker and best-selling author, Masami has helped inspire more than 394 million acts of kindness worldwide. She explains the simple but powerful idea behind B1G1: what if everyday actions, even something as small as buying a cup of coffee, could change someone else's life? My friends, you'll leave this conversation inspired by the power of small acts, reminded that generosity isn't reserved for the wealthy or powerful, and encouraged to start making a difference today rather than waiting for someday.

Holly Pivec and Doug Geivett on Two Decades of Tracking the NAR's Apostles and Prophets You walk into a church on Sunday morning. The worship band plays songs you've heard on Christian radio for years. The lyrics feel familiar, uplifting. What you don't realize is that the words you're singing were written to export a specific theology from a single church in Redding, California, one whose leadership claims direct prophetic authority from God. The church is Bethel. The movement behind it is the New Apostolic Reformation. And according to researchers Holly Pivec and Doug Geivett, who have spent over two decades studying this movement from inside Christian scholarship, it represents a radical departure from historic Christianity that is reshaping churches, politics, and millions of lives worldwide. I sat down with Holly and Doug on a recent episode of Cults, Culture & Coercion to discuss their latest book, Reckless Christianity: The Destructive New Teachings and Practices of Bill Johnson, Bethel Church, and the Global Movement of Apostles and Prophets. I've written about the New Apostolic Reformation in The Cult of Trump and interviewed researchers like André Gagné and Frederick Clarkson on these topics. Holly and Doug bring an essential angle: they are committed Christians sounding the alarm from within the faith, grounded in biblical scholarship and philosophy. Learn more about your ad choices. Last Fall, Italians turned out in massive numbers to support the Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza and to stop weapons shipments to Israel. They held nationwide days of action to "Block Everything." The Unione Syndicale de Base (USB), a grassroots worker-led organization, supported those actions and is now building an international day of action on February 6 against militarization and for stronger social programs. Clearing the FOG speaks with Francesco Staccioli, who leads USB's international organizing, about the current conditions for workers in Italy, state repression, and the necessity of building a global movement against the rise of fascism. Staccioli describes fascism as a product of capitalism and warns that we must work in solidarity to stop fascism and build alternative structures. For more information, visit PopularResistance.org.

In 2017, a Sydney TedX crowd went wild when farmer turned agronomist Guy Webb stood on stage to pitch his idea for using fungus to capture carbon in the atmosphere and plant it back into the ground to combat the lack of carbon in Australian soils. The applause was thunderous and what followed has been almost a decade of intensive research into developing a technology that provides a return on investment to farmers through their efforts to be ‘Carbon Capturing Superheroes'. Guy sat down in a canola field with Angus Ingram at the VicNoTill conference field day in spring 2025 to talk about how his lifelong mission to ensure the agricultural industry remains sustainable and profitable for the long-term future. Large scale broadacre cropping is his focus, providing a massive opportunity for change – and to hear how this humble and very passionate innovator has gotten to where he is today will both surprise and delight. We would like to share with listeners in advance that the sound quality in this episode varies due to some technical difficulties. VicNoTill is a farmer-based, grassroots organisation of Farmers Helping Farmers, and although we are proud to be at the forefront of change and systems thinking, we are honest and open about the challenges along the way – mastering the art of podcasting equipment is one!

"I've worked really hard and success is really hard. But what I know is harder is being broke. And what I know is the hardest is living an unfulfilled life." Building a global movement starts with clarity of purpose, disciplined execution, and the courage to act before conditions feel perfect. Sustainable growth is created by focusing on a clear mission, reverse-engineering goals into daily priorities, and eliminating distractions that drain time and energy. Success is less about perfection and more about consistent, intentional action taken in service of something larger than oneself. Sandra Yancey shares how she built a multimillion-dollar, global organization by designing systems that scale, cultivating values-driven culture, and leading with generosity. She explains why entrepreneurs must master time management, build repeatable processes, and create environments where people feel respected, supported, and empowered to perform at a high level. Sandra is the cofounder of eWomenNetwork, one of the world's largest business communities for women entrepreneurs. With decades of experience advising Fortune 500 leaders and scaling membership-based organizations, she is widely recognized for her expertise in leadership, systems thinking, and movement-building. Expert action steps: Give generously without keeping score, and always remember who helped you along the way. Get clear on what you want, choose five goals, and break them down into quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily actions. Send us a textIn this episode, Dimple Thakrar sits down with Hector Marcel, President of Three Jewels in New York City, for a conversation on purpose, surrender and what it really means to listen when life whispers.Hector shares the unbelievable story of how accidentally walking into “the wrong party” in Manhattan at 20 years old, meeting Tibetan monks and being handed a dream that told him “you're home,” became the doorway to his life's work. That single moment led to Three Jewels, a nonprofit spiritual community now serving more than 60,000 visits a year, teaching meditation, agency of mind and inner freedom to a new generation. This conversation is personal. Dimple reveals how Hector became chosen family for her eldest daughter Maya when she moved alone to New York at 17. Instead of numbing heartbreak with distraction, Maya found Three Jewels, learned to work with her mind, and reclaimed her own worth. Hector speaks about that season, the responsibility of holding a young soul through pain, and why our twenties are the moment we decide who we are going to be in this world.Together, Dimple and Hector explore why most of us spend our lives running from discomfort instead of listening to it, how resistance is not the enemy but the training ground, and why the “pull” you feel that quiet knowing that makes no logical sense is almost always the doorway to service, legacy and love. This episode is an invitation to trust that you are being moved for a reason. You are not random. You are required.Key Takeaways:Agency of MindYou think you're in control of your mind until you try to hold one breath of attention. Real freedom begins when you develop the ability to direct your own mind instead of being dragged by impulse. The Whisper is InstructionLife is always signalling. A dream, a pull, a “go here,” a “call them.” Most people ignore it because it is inconvenient or not logical. Hector followed it even when it made no sense, and it changed not only his life but thousands of others.Resistance is Part of the TrainingWanting to run, argue, talk yourself out of the thing that is normal. The work is not to never feel resistance. The work is learning to stay present inside it and choose anyway. You Are Needed Exactly As You AreYour way of loving, healing, teaching, creating, and leading the world actually needs that specific expression. Your job is not to be more like someone else. Your job is to become more you.We Are Not SeparateHector describes humanity as an interconnected net of jewels, each facet reflecting the others. Your healing is not private. Your courage gives someone else permission to live.Thank you so much for being here with us today. If this conversation touched you, share it with someone who is in a season of surrender or feels “on the edge of something” but scared to leap. "I had my ladder on the wrong wall. I was putting all my energy into getting people to want McDonald's instead of Burger King. Who cares, really?" In this episode of Wickedly Smart Women, host Anjel B. Hartwell welcomes Kate Grant, CEO Emeritus of the Fistula Foundation and author of No Woman Left Behind. Kate explains what obstetric fistula is and how a relatively low-cost surgery can restore a woman's health. She shares the practical steps she took to move from advertising into nonprofit leadership and why investing in your own retooling can be the most powerful career move. If you're thinking about leaving corporate for mission-driven work, this episode is full of tactical and emotional wisdom. What You Will Learn: How working in advertising at big agencies means using dark arts of consumer research to create psychological needs for products. The decision process of choosing to go back to graduate school and completely retool rather than making a lateral move into nonprofit communications. The reality that career change doesn't happen on the plane ride home from your transformative trip, it happens gradually like a pair of shoes that doesn't fit anymore, and it takes time to empower that voice that says you're done with this chapter. What an obstetric fistula actually is. How women with fistula are often stigmatized and how they're frequently blamed for an injury that's caused by a lack of medical access. Why Fistula Foundation went from being one of several support organizations for a single hospital in Ethiopia to becoming the global leader doing more surgeries than the UN or US government. The strategic decision not to take government money. Why 90% of the fistula surgeries are successful and truly give women their lives back. The permanent pay cut that comes with leaving the private sector for nonprofit work. Plus, discover why teal pumpkins matter for 1 in 13 kids, how Post Malone shut down Broadway for 30,000 fans, and whether Patagonia's venture into crackers and tinned fish can actually change farming—or if it's just another case of corporate savior complex. Spoiler: a farmer has thoughts, and we want to hear them. What We Discovered This Week
Jesus invites us into something beautifully simple yet profoundly transformative: a Kingdom where God delights in caring for us and calls us to extend that same love to others. Just knows what we need and asks us to trust Him by seeking His Kingdom first. This isn't about grand programs or top-down initiatives—it's about seizing God's Kingdom right where we are, through everyday relationships and acts of love. As we do life together, meeting needs and restoring dignity, we become part of a global movement that starts with a conversation, a kindness, a moment of reconciliation. Jesus, the great peacemaker, welcomes everyone into this purposeful journey, freeing us from every form of brokenness and inviting us to help others discover their God-given worth. The Kingdom is already being given to us—all we need to do is reach out and take hold of it, one relationship at a time.
What happens to mean girls when they grow up? Some get better at hiding it. Some run companies. And some of us realize we've carried those voices in our own heads. In this episode, I sit down with Erin Gallagher — CEO and founder of Hype Women — who turned one viral post about Jamie Lee Curtis hyping Michelle Yeoh into a global movement. Her new book Hype Women dives head-first into the tangled mess of mean-girl culture, good-girl conditioning, and the patriarchy that benefits from keeping women small.Erin and I get into the psychology of comparison, the lie of “being nice,” and why learning to hype yourself and other women is an act of rebellion. We're unpacking the unspoken rules that keep ambitious women silent, self-critical, and secretly exhausted. You'll walk away seeing jealousy, judgment, and competition through a new lens and start rewiring them for good. What You'll LearnHow Hype Women became a cultural movement (and what Jamie Lee Curtis had to do with it)The difference between mean-girl behavior and “good-girl” conditioningWhy jealousy is often just desire wearing a disguiseHow patriarchy profits from women doubting each otherWhat happens when you stop abandoning yourself to stay likedThe truth about “playing nice” versus being authenticHow to spot internalized misogyny hiding in everyday interactionsThe mindset shift that turns envy into empowermentThis conversation is your permission slip to stop shrinking. The Government is being urged to sanction Israel after 15 Irish citizens were detained as part of the Gaza aid flotilla. Those detainees are making their way home after being deported from Israel yesterday. Global Movement to Gaza Éire, the group supporting the flotilla here, say the participants will be reunited with their families and supported when they land. The Israeli military has intercepted the Freedom Flotilla, which is trying to break Israel's aid blockade by delivering food and medicine to Gaza. Wire Host Caeden spoke to Acacia O'Connor, actor and on-the-ground spokesperson for the Global Movement to Gaza, about Israel's interception of the flotilla, and what we know about the whereabouts of the New Zealanders on board. Update: All three New Zealanders who are part of the Freedom Flotilla are confirmed to be taken by the Israeli Military. There will be a snap action taking place in Te Komititanga from 3pm today to protest what has happened.
The latest batch of ships involved with the Global Samud Flotilla has set sail, so I thought it might be a good time to speak with one of the organisers to get a greater understanding of what is involved and what the hopes are for this movement. Fortunately, Karen Moynihan, Irish co-ordinator with the Global Movement to Gaza campaign generously gave us some time, and also, a renewed sense of hope.To support the podcast and access bonus episodes, join the community on Patreon here.Come to the Catch Up Cabaret (ish) - get your tickets here. The Hidden Lightness with Jimmy Hinton – Mainstream coverage of Charlie Kirk's assassination has been quick to frame the event through a political lens. In 2018, serial entrepreneur Anu Bhardwaj launched a project inspired by a simple, brilliant insight from her 7-year-old daughter, Arya: if you want adults to understand cryptocurrency, teach their kids first. And so, Krypto 4 Kids (K4K) was born. What began as a two-day event quickly evolved into a financial literacy app - focused on crypto - designed in collaboration with the K4K cohort and presentations by the kids themselves to world leaders at the United Nations. But then, overnight, it vanished. The app disappeared from the App Store, the partner company went silent, and a project that came together in months fell apart just as quickly. For two years, it seemed like the story was over - a discontinued app and a broken promise to a group of kids who'd worked so hard. But the project's next chapter was sparked, once again, by Arya. After learning how school closures were affecting girls in the developing world, she asked, "We've got tokens in the Krypto for Kids wallet. Can we send it to them?" That single question led Anu to found Sheqonomi, a global audio platform built to advance learning and opportunity through podcasts for women and girls - even those without access to a smartphone. In the final episode of Season Two, Anu joins Brenda to share this incredible story of failure, resilience, and reinvention. They discuss how to navigate professional disappointments, the power of a child's perspective in innovation, and why your "why" must be big enough to survive your biggest setbacks. What happens when your dream project falls apart? You listen to your daughter and build an even bigger one. A note to listeners: this episode features a brief discussion of the financial troubles and alleged questionable practices of a particular company. Although this company is now largely non-operational, its name and the names of some of its staff have been obscured to protect the anonymity of individuals who were not involved in those issues. After multiple voyages by the Gaza Freedom Flotilla have been prevented from reaching Gaza's shores by Israel's military, a massive fleet of freedom flotillas are currently sailing towards Gaza to deliver life-saving humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the midst of genocide. The Global Sumud Flotilla “brings together a diverse coalition of international participants, including those involved in previous land and sea efforts like the Maghreb Sumud Flotilla, Freedom Flotilla Coalition, and Global Movement to Gaza.” Including over 50 vessels, delegations from at least 44 countries, and activists, organizers, and people of conscience from around the world, the Global Sumud Flotilla is the largest maritime mission in history to break Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Editor David Horovitz joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. This morning, Hamas released a statement saying that Israel’s military plans to conquer Gaza City show its “blatant disregard” for efforts to broker a ceasefire and hostage release deal in the nearly two-year conflict. As Israel continues to weigh the partial, phased truce proposal accepted by the terror group on Sunday, we hear about the various forms of backlash faced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -- for both the Gaza City op and for the possibility of ending the war without achieving all war goals. As a slew of international nations announce their potential readiness to recognize a Palestinian state in September, a recent poll found that a 58 percent majority of Americans believe that every country in the United Nations should recognize Palestine as a nation. The issue of a "two-state solution" couldn't be farther from most Israelis' minds. Horovitz delves into why the flirting with recognizing Palestine -- now, during this war -- is drawing such passion from Israeli leadership, including Netanyahu in his dealings with his Australian counterpart.Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. What can one person do to change the world? Julia Butterfly Hill answered this question with an extraordinary act of courage and conviction. In 1997, with no formal training in activism or environmentalism, Julia climbed into a 1,000-year-old redwood tree named Luna and refused to come down for over two years. Her purpose? To save the ancient redwood from being logged. In this episode of Passion Struck, we examine the powerful story behind Julia's 738-day tree-sit and how her unwavering commitment drew global attention to the devastation of ancient forests.
