In this episode of the DeFi Download, Piers Ridyard is joined by Ben Hart, CTO, and Amir, blossoming Scrypto developer at MLabs. Ben and Amir share their experience with different programming languages and platforms, such as Haskell, Plutus, Rust, and Scrypto. SummaryMLabs is a Haskell, Rust, and Blockchain AI consultancy working with various industries, such as fintech and blockchain. MLabs is also the developer of the Plutonomicon library, a major contributor to it, and one of the main contributors to the Plutarch eDSL version of the Plutus smart contract language.Key takeawaysBen came across Radix at Consensus 2023 and was impressed with the thoughtfulness and organization of the Radix team and builders. He found it easy to jump into Scrypto because of his previous experience with Rust. Amir found Scrypto to be easier to learn and use than Plutus because it abstracts away some of the lower-level details and has well-named concepts and design patterns. Amir was able to quickly understand and experiment with Scrypto by reading the documentation and the community examples that are available.Radix's guardrails and intent-based transactions make programming and building applications easier and safer, unlike Ethereum's state-based transactions. We start today's podcast with health news after it was revealed an elderly man was left waiting for more than two days in A&E at a Kent hospital - as pressure on the NHS continues. 79-year-old Geoffrey Knell spent 55 hours in a chair at the QEQM in Margate after being diagnosed with pneumonia. Elsewhere, an inquest has been told how a Dover man was let down by mental health services in the months before his death. A coroner's ruled there were missed opportunities by professionals to contact 25 year-old Ben Hart before he took his own life in October last year. Hear from Medway GP Dr Julian Spinks who has been discussing the result of a major survey that reveal just 29% of people in England, Scotland and Wales say they're happy with the way the health service runs. Also in today's podcast, owners are being warned to keep a close eye on their pets as Kent is named a dog-theft hotspot. More than 177 cases were reported across the country last year - American Bulldogs, Staffordshire Bull Terriers and French Bulldogs were the most common breeds targeted. A woman's been made commander of a Kent lifeboat for the first time in the station's 100 year history. Heather Crittenden's been part of the RNLI for 11 years and is now at the helm of the Atlantic 85 at Littlestone on Romney Marsh. And, Olly Murs has told our sister radio station, kmfm, he'd love Austin Butler to play him in a movie about his life. Hear some of his chat with Garry and Chelsea on the breakfast show.

Ben Hart is the Deputy Director at the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity. One question Ben is asked the most is, why are we still trying to grow and attract people into the state? The answer is because we want to keep your kids and grandkids here. He explains that with each graduating class, we lose many people to more lucrative out-of-state opportunities, but by aggressively bringing in new businesses and growing pre-existing ones, Utah can maintain economic inertia.
