A Friend Police Officer Was Murdered, The Mystery. Special Episode. In a Free Podcast episode now streaming on Apple, Spotify, and shared widely across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, former law enforcement officer and paramedic David J. Brown opened up about a tragedy that has haunted him for decades, the 1982 murder of his friend and co-worker, Deputy Town Marshal Richard E. Hart. “This wasn't just a fellow officer,” Brown shared. “Rick was a true friend, a devoted family man, and someone who represented the best of what it means to serve.” It is also promoted across their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other platforms. A Routine Traffic Stop Turns Tragic The heartbreaking incident took place in the early hours of October 16, 1982, in the small town of Firestone, Colorado. Hart and another officer were patrolling when they responded to the sound of a nearby car accident. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Hart approached a car, suspected of fleeing the scene while the driver appeared intoxicated. As Hart leaned into the vehicle to retrieve the keys, the driver sped off, dragging Hart along the pavement. He sustained massive head injuries and was airlifted to a Hospital in Englewood. Despite all efforts, Hart died two days later. A Friend Police Officer Was Murdered, The Mystery. He was just 34 years old, a Vietnam veteran, a father of two, and a respected part-time officer with the Firestone Police Department. Look for supporting stories about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin . The Manhunt and the Mystery The suspect, was arrested that same morning, hiding in the weeds not far from the abandoned car. Despite his .20% blood alcohol content, a history of DUIs, and a recent license suspension, he was released on a $2,000 bond, posting just $200 through a bail bondsman. “That's when the nightmare deepened,” Brown said. “How someone like him could walk out of jail the same day he put a police officer on life support, it just didn't make sense.” Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. The suspect disappeared shortly after being released. A multi-state manhunt followed. Despite FBI involvement and multiple added charges, including vehicular homicide, habitual offender, and failure to appear, the suspect remained elusive. A Friend Police Officer Was Murdered, The Mystery. The answer to this enduring mystery came nearly five years later, when the suspect's body was found near Weber Reservoir in Nevada. He had committed suicide with a .38 caliber revolver. His note left no mention of Officer Hart. You can listen to his stories and interview on our website for free in addition to platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and other major podcast platforms. “He ran for years,” said Brown. “But he couldn't outrun his guilt. The impact of what he did never left him, just as the consequences never left Rick's family or the rest of us.” A Life of Service Born in the Midwest, Richard Hart served as a Military Policeman in Vietnam before beginning his law enforcement career in Duncan, Oklahoma. In the mid-70s, he moved to Colorado, balancing work as a tank truck driver and part-time police officer. Firestone Marshal Tony Onorato, Sr., personally recruited Hart in 1977 due to his exceptional record. Known for his humility and dedication, Hart quickly became a pillar of the Firestone Police Department. A Friend Police Officer Was Murdered, The Mystery. Hart was also a devoted husband to and father. His youngest son, was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome, requiring multiple surgeries. The tragedy galvanized the community. A benefit event named “Heart to Hart Day” raised over $21,000, helping fund his son's treatments. Follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Medium and most all social media platforms. Honoring His Legacy Over the years, former and current Firestone Police Chiefs, including Steve Modrell and David L. Montgomery, have worked tirelessly to ensure that Officer Hart's sacrifice is never forgotten. His name is etched on memorials at: Bittersweet Park, Weld County Colorado State Patrol Academy Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. In 2002, the town dedicated Hart Park at 4th & Jackson in his honor. It was later rededicated in 2012 for future generations to remember his legacy. A Friend Police Officer Was Murdered, The Mystery. The interview is available as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and podcast website, also available on platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most major podcast outlets. “His story is a reminder of what law enforcement officers risk every single day,” Brown said. “Rick didn't have to be working that night, he volunteered. He always did the right thing. Always.” Sharing the Story David J. Brown, who has authored numerous books some on policing and trauma, says the murder of his friend remains a defining moment in his life. He has made it a mission to share Hart's story. “I tell this story not just to honor Rick,” Brown said, “but to spotlight how our justice system can fail, how communities can rise, and how trauma can stay with you for decades. People need to hear this, not just as news, but as a personal journey.” A Friend Police Officer Was Murdered, The Mystery. Billy Martin on Finding Harmony in Rhythm and Life

The drummer and percussionist Billy Martin, whose name many Time Sensitive listeners may recognize—he created the Time Sensitive theme song—defies any boxed-in or limiting definitions of his work. Best known as a member of the band Medeski Martin & Wood (MMW), he's spent the past three-plus decades making experimental, boundary-pushing, and uncategorizable instrumental jazz-funk-groove music, shaping sounds that feel as expansive as they are definitive and distinctive. Across all his artistic output, Martin continually, meditatively searches for harmony. He is also a composer, a teacher, a visual artist, and a builder and craftsman. His expansive creative practice comes most alive at his home in Englewood, New Jersey, where he has cultivated a bamboo garden, crafted his own Japanese-style teahouse, and constructed a music studio. Martin is someone for whom rhythm is not just something heard, but also seen and felt.On the episode, he talks about his MMW journey at length, his concept of “rhythmic harmony,” and why he views sound creation as a sacred act.Special thanks to our Season 11 presenting sponsor, Van Cleef & Arpels.Show notes:Billy Martin[7:31] Medeski Martin & Wood[7:31] John Medeski[7:31] Chris Wood[7:31] “Not Not Jazz” (2024)[10:12] Iggy Pop's “Avenue B” (1999)[10:12] Don Was[11:27] “The Lover” (1995)[11:27] “Friday Afternoon in the Universe” (1995)[11:27] “Old Angel Midnight” (1973) by Jack Kerouac[13:44] Ra-Kalam Bob Moses[13:44] John Scofield[13:44] David Baker[15:57] “Shuck It Up” (1993)[15:57] “It's a Jungle in Here” (1993)[18:12] “Latin Shuffle” (1998)[18:12] “Combustication” (1998)[18:12] Frankie Malabe[18:12] Art Blakey[33:25] Thelonious Monk[33:58] “Life on Drums” (2011)[38:32] John Bonham[38:32] Charlie Watts[38:32] Stewart Copeland[38:32] Elvin Jones[38:32] Max Roach[38:32] Danny Richmond[38:32] Charles Mingus[38:32] Jack DeJohnette[38:32] Joe Morello[38:32] Roy Haynes[38:32] Stan Getz[38:32] Airto Moreira[38:32] Naná Vasconcelos[38:32] Babatunde Olatunji[39:58] Gus Johnson[39:58] “Whatever Happened to Gus” (1998)[39:58] Steve Cannon[40:54] “Chubb Sub” (1995)[40:54] ”Uncle Chubb” (1992)[46:41] “Shack-man” (1996)[47:06] “Drumming Birds” (2004)[54:48] “Bamboo Rainsticks” (1999)[54:48] Amulet Records[1:00:23] Creative Music Studio

I have been reminded over and over again in recent weeks of the preciousness of life as numerous dear friends and family members face loss of loved ones and their own life-altering health crises. This got me to thinking about how much my mentors have shaped my life. So with this latest episode I inaugurate a new Countermelody series entitled “Honor Your Mentors.” I have already posted numerous times on the podcast about my beloved teacher John Wustman. This coming July my friend and colleague Chanda VanderHart's monumental book Accompaniment in America: Contextualizing Collaborative Piano, co-authored with Kathleen Kelly and Elvia Puccinelli, will be published by Routledge. Chanda has put together an astonishing digital archive featuring a wealth of material related to the book: https://accompanimentinamerica.website/index.html Included in this material is an interview I did with Chanda about Mr. Wustman. Chanda has given me permission to include that interview on my podcast. This is supplemented by a sampling of (mostly) studio recordings of John featuring, among others, Régine Crespin, Carlo Bergonzi, Brigitte Fassbaender, Luciano Pavarotti, and Irina Arkhipova: truly an astonishing feast for the ears! Additionally, I was enormously saddened last week to read of the death of Joan Caplan, my first serious voice teacher in New York, and a phenomenal singer in her own right. Joan also remained a close friend through the years. In recent years she had been living at the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, New Jersey. I was able to visit her there last summer and had intended to go see her again later this month. Alas, that can no longer happen, but I will also be featuring Joan in an upcoming episode in the “Honor Your Mentors” series. In her memory today, I present her in a scintillating recording of Orsini's Brindisi from Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia. Finally, though I'm sure no one needs to be reminded of this, please, my dears, tell all those you love how much they mean to you; don't wait until their funerals to give them their flowers! Countermelody is a podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. Singer and vocal aficionado Daniel Gundlach explores great singers of the past and present focusing in particular on those who are less well-remembered today than they should be. Daniel's lifetime in music as a professional countertenor, pianist, vocal coach, voice teacher, and journalist yields an exciting array of anecdotes, impressions, and “inside stories.” At Countermelody's core is the celebration of great singers of all stripes, their instruments, and the connection they make to the words they sing. By clicking on the following link (https://linktr.ee/CountermelodyPodcast) you can find the dedicated Countermelody website which contains additional content including artist photos and episode setlists. It's Tuesday, April 22nd, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Pope Francis, who affirmed homosexual ideology, has died Hebrews 9:27 says, “It is appointed once for man to die, and after that the judgment.” The Roman Catholic Pope Francis died Monday of a stroke and heart failure, reports The Epoch Times. He was 88 years old. Francis was not shy to enter into international politics. The pope had recently stated that the Trump administration policies removing illegal immigrants would “end badly.” He had also approved of the Vatican policy allowing church blessings for homosexual couples living in unnatural relations one with another. And he made numerous comments publicly lauding those who advocate LGBT ideology. Francis will also be remembered for his signing over the installation of Catholic bishops in China to the Communist Government. The deal was first signed in 2018, and then renewed in 2020, 2022, and 2024.  U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo commented on the travesty, stating that “It's clear that the Sino-Vatican agreement has not shielded Catholics from the Party's depredations, to say nothing of the Party's horrific treatment of Christians.” King Charles references Islam in his “Easter message” Sadly, the King of England took opportunity in his “Easter message” to refer to Judaism and Islam, instead of representing the Christian faith, reports The Christian Post. Referring to Jesus, King Charles said, “The love He showed when He walked the Earth reflected the Jewish ethic of caring for the stranger and those in need, a deep human instinct echoed in Islam and other religious traditions, and in the hearts of all who seek the good of others.” Ostensibly, King Charles III is the head of the English Anglican Church. No wonder the Disciples of Christ tweeted, “King Charles is neglecting his role as Defender of the Faith.” UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, an atheist, was a little more encouraging to Christians in his Easter message, referencing the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as “a story of hope, redemption and renewal.” He also referred sympathetically with “Christians facing hardship, persecution or conflict around the world who cannot celebrate freely.” Supreme Court: Can parents opt kids out of LGBT propaganda? The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments today from parents in Maryland concerning the public school ban on their opting out their kids on storybook readings on homosexual pride parades, gender transitions, and drag queens, reports USA Today. Mostly Muslim and Christian parents have wanted to opt their children out.  Colorado set to punish parents for objecting to kid's gender transition The Colorado State House has approved what may be the worst bill in the nation. The current legislative wording is geared to criminalize parents for disagreeing with their children on gender identity, compel speech, and punish those who hold faith-based or scientific beliefs about sex and gender, reports The Gospel Coalition. Specifically, Colorado liberal legislators could punish a parent guilty of “deadnaming” which is using the transgender child's birth name or “misgendering” which is using pronouns that align with the child's actual biological sex. The legislators describe these actions as forms of “coercive control” which would be considered threatening or intimidating behaviors that courts could consider when determining child custody. Republican Rep. Chris Richardson spoke out against the bill. RICHARDSON: “This is not protecting children, it's weaponizing the courts against parents.  This would allow a parent who may be navigating an incredibly complex and emotional issue with their child to lose custody for not affirming a gender identity they may not understand.” Last week, pastors gathered at the capital to protest the bill.  Leaders included Pastors Matt Patrick of The Well Church in Boulder, Chris Goble of Ridgeline Community Church in Castle Rock, and Matt Johnson of BRAVE Church in Englewood. The bill is heading for the Democrat-dominated Colorado Senate for approval. Will pastors stand in the gap? Ezekial 22:30 reads of impending judgment:  “And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.” Is Colorado the most anti-gun state? Colorado is also poised to become the most anti-gun state in America. Indeed, 12 bills restricting gun rights have already passed.  The state legislature is considering a record 18 more anti-gun bills this season, which would further restrict gun rights, as monitored by the Rocky Mountain Gunowners Association.  Family arrested for “kidnapping” own kids over vaccine issue A Massachusetts homeschool family has been arrested for “kidnapping” their own children. They are held on a $200,000 bond or $20,000 cash bail. The couple's five children have reportedly been taken into custody by Child Protective Services. The extreme response was allegedly sparked by the parents' informed decision to decline to vaccinate their healthy nine-month-old baby, on what they called “sincerely-held religious beliefs.” They had attempted an escape to Texas, where they were hunted down and arrested. Walgreens pays $350 million for prescription Walgreens has agreed to pay up to $350 million for allegedly filling unlawful opioid prescriptions, without taking the time to confirm that the prescriptions were lawful, reports Fox 4. The suit was filed by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Administration. This is in addition to paying $5.5 billion for a plethora of suits filed by local and state governments. Walgreens is on a path to bankruptcy, planning 1,200 store closures in the next few years. Drug overdose deaths have killed 1.25 million Americans since 1999 — more than the deaths caused by COVID-19.  Dow and the Nasdaq composite dropped The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1,000 points, and the Nasdaq composite slipped 3.5% on a Bear Monday. The NASDAQ registered an 18% drop since the first of the year. Meanwhile, gold topped $3,400 per ounce —another record high. The gold-to-silver ratio reached 105-fold — an all-time high. Historically, the ratio has been 20 to 1.  Pat Boone is back And finally, Pat Boone is back on the charts with another Adult Contemporary Hit. With a little help from Lee Greenwood, Vince Gill, Larry Gatlin, and Alabama, the singer released We Are One — with the hope the proceeds will fund clean water in Tanzania, Africa.  Take a listen. BOONE: “One. I am one. Like no other human being, I am one.” GREENWOOD: “And in my life, there is a meaning. There is worth. There is a purpose like no other on this planet, I am one.” ALABAMA (RANDY OWEN AND TEDDY GENTRY): “One. We are one. When good people come together, we are one.” GREENWOOD: “And in our oneness, there is purpose, there is honor, there is courage, when we put our hearts together, we are one.” (African children singing) Half of Tanzania does not have clean drinking water. You can make a donation on the website www.OneForTanzania.org/give Remarkably, Pat Boone will be 91 in June.  The singer set a new record for the longest span between songs on the adult contemporary chart -- 63 years, eight months, and three weeks.   Boone has four children  16 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. Psalm 127:3 says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, April 22nd, in the year of our Lord 2025. Subscribe for free by Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. Hello and welcome to another episode, well actually a re-release of my conversation with Chris Smith which was originally released on March 12, 2024. Chris and I are re-releasing this episode as Chris just published a new book entitled The Virtue of Dialogue as part of the Cultivating Communities series. This series is part of a project by Englewood Church in Indiana in partnership with Missio Alliance and the Ekklesia Project. The hope of this series is to offer congregations, churches, or any community for that matter field guides to aid in their transformation away from the societal forces of polarization and division and into the way and personhood of Jesus. One of the central practices for communities is being conversation with one another. This book outlines how Englewood Church has sought to practice conversation for decades. At its core, this conversational practice is a practice of hospitality—of welcoming one another, being seen and heard. Conversation at its core is a creation of a free space to allow the other to become the person they were meant to be. Week after week, month after month, year after year.  Chris and my conversation touch on these themes and so we both thought it was a good time to revisit this conversation. If this piques your interest, please buy The Virtue of Dialogue, available now on Amazon and through Englewood's website which is in the show notes.Buy The Virtue of Dialogue: Englewood website or AmazonIn this episode I have a rich conversation with Chris Smith. We cover a range of topics, starting with his own personal journey of food over the past ten years. But we spend the majority of our time using a couple of Chris's books, namely Slow Church and How the Body of Christ Talks, to dialogue about the importance of conversation for the health of ourselves and our community. Through recovering of conversation, we begin to see how God wants to collaborate with us in his work of redemption.C. Christopher Smith is the founding editor of The Englewood Review of Books. He and his wife Jeni have three adult children and are members of Englewood Christian Church on the urban Near Eastside of Indianapolis. Chris is the co-author of the award-winning book Slow Church, and author of several other books including most recently, How the Body of Christ Talks: Recovering the Practice of Conversation in the Church. Most of his latest writings end up on The Englewood Review's Substack, TheConversationalLife.substack.comThis episode of the Biggest Table is brought to you in part by Wild Goose Coffee. Corroded cars, broken-down trucks and dusty motorcycles have piled up on two lots in Englewood. For years, families have been forced to live next to the collection of mangled vehicles and junk. Still, no one has taken responsibility for the junkyard on the 7100 block of South Normal Boulevard.Public records identify a North Side man as the agent of a company that owns one of the junkyard lots, but he said he doesn't own it anymore and won't answer questions about it.And the other lot is owned by the city itself.Reporter - Atavia ReedHost - Jon HansenRead More HereToday's Sponsor - Women EmployedFind out more about The Working Lunch Thursday, May 22, 2025 HERE Want to donate to our non-profit newsroom? We believe all neighborhoods deserve to be covered in a meaningful way.We amplify positive stories, cover development and local school council meetings and serve as watchdogs in neighborhoods often ostracized by traditional news media.Ground-level coverageOur neighborhood-based reporters don't parachute in once to cover a story. They are in the neighborhoods they cover every day building relationships over time with neighbors. We believe this ground-level approach not only builds community but leads to a more accurate portrayal of a neighborhood.Stories that matter to you — every daySince our launch five years ago, we've published more than 25,000 stories from the neighborhoods, covered hundreds of community meetings and send daily and neighborhood newsletters to more than 130,000 Chicagoans. We've built this loyalty by proving to folks we are not only covering their neighborhoods, we are a part of them. Some of us have internalized the national media's narrative of a broken Chicago. We aim to change that by celebrating our neighborhoods and chronicling the resilience of the people who fight every day to make Chicago a better place for all.

Jared Scott Fogle,, born August 23, 1977, is an American former spokesman for Subway restaurants and confessed serial child molester. Fogle appeared in Subway's advertising campaigns from 2000 to 2015 until an FBI investigation led to him being convicted of child sex tourism and possessing child pornography. While a student at Indiana University, Fogle lost 245 lb. between 1998 and 1999. Having frequented a Subway restaurant as part of his diet plan, he was hired to help advertise the company the following year. Fogle's popularity led to his appearances in over 300 commercials during his 15 years with Subway, alongside other media appearances. Allegations of Fogle having inappropriate relations with minors began in 2007 but did not gain traction until 2015 when the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) uncovered that he received child pornography from an associate. Pleading guilty to the child sex tourism and child pornography charges the same year, Fogle was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in federal prison. He remains incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution, Englewood, as of 2025. Your True Crime Crew shies away from no controversy! Send us a textWhen neighbors felt the walls of their Chicago apartment growing hot on a summer night in 2018, they knew something was terribly wrong. Behind those walls, 38-year-old bartender and mother of three T'Anda Hall lay beaten and dying as flames began consuming her bedroom — the tragic culmination of what had started as a friendly card game hours earlier.T'Anda had recently met Wes Arnold, a man whose violent history remained hidden from her until it was too late. Friends who'd been playing cards with them that evening described Arnold growing increasingly agitated, particularly when money from T'Anda's "Rainy Day Fund" went missing. Sensing danger, they left. Minutes later, neighbors heard running footsteps down the stairwell. The investigation revealed a pattern all too familiar in cases of domestic violence. Arnold, on parole for battery at the time, had an extensive history of abusing women — so severe that even his own family refused to shelter him. Security footage, witness testimony, and forensic evidence painted a clear picture of what happened after T'Anda's friends departed: a brutal beating followed by arson meant to cover his tracks. Most disturbing was the medical examiner's finding that T'Anda had smoke in her lungs, meaning she was still alive when Arnold set the fire. While evading capture, Arnold's violence continued. He assaulted another woman who had briefly given him shelter, leaving her with 17 stitches. This pattern of escalating violence ultimately led to his conviction and life sentence plus 50 years for arson.T'Anda's story serves as a haunting reminder of how quickly violence can escalate and the importance of recognizing warning signs in potentially dangerous relationships. Through our exploration of this case, we honor her memory while examining the factors that led to this preventable tragedy.Have you witnessed warning signs in a friend's relationship? Sharing your story might help others recognize dangerous situations before they escalate. This week, we enjoyed a delicious selection from Robert Clay Vineyards. The 2017 Texas Hill Country Ruby Cabernet is a mellow, long-aged wine with unique aromas and flavors of maple, brown sugar and vanilla bean, but bone dry and medium bodied with rounded tannins. In this episode, Ryan sits down with Susan from Hell Yeah Denver to explore how she supports and elevates local artists in the Mile High City. From connecting artists to businesses and helping them secure grants, to sharing the best local food spots, Susan offers a unique blend of art, entrepreneurship, and Denver culture. Tune in to discover why “If it's not a hell yeah, it's a no!” 5 Takeaways Why “Hell Yeah”: Susan's guiding principle is to take on only the projects that truly excite her—if it's not a “hell yeah,” it's a no. This mentality shapes her company's name and mission. Business Model That Puts Artists First: Susan focuses on securing funding from businesses rather than relying on artists' pockets. This approach allows creators to focus on their art while she manages the business side. Non-Traditional Art Spaces: From car dealerships to salons, Susan partners with businesses that want to feature and support local art, creating fresh opportunities for artists to showcase their work. Community & Connection: Denver's art scene is thriving in areas like RiNo, Santa Fe, 40 West, Englewood, and more. By acting as a connector, Susan helps artists tap into these communities and resources. Support Local: Purchasing original pieces directly from local artists fosters creativity, keeps Denver's art community vibrant, and often comes at a surprisingly affordable price point.
