And today we are here with Ghostland Observatory; joined by both members; with non-other than Aaron Behrens the energetic frontman with Willie braids and trademark shades. And along with Thomas Ross Turner, who plays the mad scientist in the duo. Thomas lays down sick beats and musical atmosphere and you control the stage with your vocals and presence. All of this with lot's of lazers. How are you doing today Aaron? How are you doing today Thomas? How do you feel in these strange times? Your music has been described as a combination of electro, rock and funk and electro-dance soul rock, but how would you describe the Ghostland sound? If you could put it it words, how would you describe a live Ghostland show? The live experience, energy, and vibe. I know that you've had a lot to do with the lazers and stage set up, could you tell us about that? We wanted to celebrate the band, as this is when GLO came into view for us with "delete.delete.i.eat.meat" came out driving a trashy moped in 2005. That was 15 years ago! How does that feel? Our first song today is off of the follow-up from 2006, "Paparazzi Lighting", titled "Piano Man". As we go into this song, do you have any words for your Piano Man Thomas Ross Turner? That was "Best Won't Do" from 2005's "delete.delete.i.eat.meat" album. And one more song off of "Paparazzi Lighting", this was a big hit for you guys. "Sad Sad City". How do you feel about this song then and now? And furthermore, I'm not sure the exact meaning of the song or if the city in question is Austin. But here were are with a cancelled SXSW in 2020, concerts, music, events, and everyday life. Austin is such a music oriented city, if feels as if this song means more now than ever. Because there certainly Ain't no party in a sad, sad city. And once in 2013, I was at SXSW and happened to catch a super intimate acoustic set by a deceased grunge pioneer, Chris Cornell. There he is playing all of his songs and hits from over the years from Soundgarden, AudioSlave, and he introduces a song from an Austin band and goes into his own version covering "Sad Sad City". I'm sure you have heard it right, on Youtube? What did you think about that, how did that make you feel? Very much so. Any final thoughts that you want to leave today for your fans or fans to come or how one could train a redbird? WOW, that is so cool! Thank you so much for sharing that. And I could maybe envision a falcon with you on future sets wouldn't that be amazing? Thanks for listening. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tiny-curations-deep-dives/message

A discussion about Ozomatli's Embrace The Chaos leads hosts Seth and Rob to relate some of their memories of the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy as this excellent record was released on this day. Social media recently revealed that Ozomatli performances in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 served as vital and joyous therapy for many who attended. Seth's son Darral joins for the first part of the interview with Ulises Bella and Justin Poree of Ozomatli, as the band had just finished the most recent Atlanta "Ozokidz" performance. Darral lends a child's perspective with his questions about this widely celebrated, audience participation-heavy series. The band's bassist, and self-proclaimed Darral fan Wil-Dog Abers also joins in the fun spontaneously to field a couple of questions. We learn not only about the revelry that goes on with regard to these events, but also how Ozokidz is in part a reflection of the band's genesis in music education and outreach programs in southern California public schools. The main portion of the interview begins with a discussion of the band's most recent release, Non-Stop: Mexico to Jamaica. We learn how the band decided to take classic and/or traditional Mexican songs and adorn them with roots'y vibes and Jamaican rhythms, and how they ended up working with Sly and Robbie. The chat makes its way to other musical artists, particularly Los Lobos, Santana, Rage Against The Machine and Ghostland Observatory, The band's frightening experiences at the 2000 Democratic National Convention, and another time when members were arrested in Austin are also each covered, as is their love for, and association with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The conversation even floats into the realm of politics for a bit, and how the band's is often inaccurately reduced to being nothing more than a, "political band." wTnS is Produced by Rob Turner and Engineered by Josh Thane of Wonder Dog Sounds Studio. www.joshthaneproductions.com www.wonderdogsounds.com All social media management, promotion and website maintenance/building done by Harris Sullivan. wTnS is a proud partner of the Osiris Podcast Network. It was his early exposure to this prolific rock scene and the raw sounds of legends like Bruce Springsteen that influenced Kastra by shaping his musical taste and nurturing a deep desire to produce and perform his own brand of raw and exciting electronic music. From the young age of 14, Ray began composing simple guitar melodies. Building his music knowledge and learning to play various other instruments like bass and drums, Kastra was on his way to becoming a well-known musician in his own right. It was after a chance encounter with genre-bending music trailblazers Ghostland Observatory at Bonnaroo that Kastra was first exposed to experimental electronic music and was immediately drawn to it. Kastra's early success has not halted his enthusiastic work ethic. He released the "SPANK!" EP for free in the Summer of 2013 which resonated with his fans and is featured in DJ sets globally.
