Comedians Jeffrey Paul and Sean Morton are joined by Dougie Almeida for a hilarious, music-heavy episode diving into rock obsessions, band life, and the comedy grind. From wild touring stories and embarrassing 90s band footage to debates on Audioslave vs. Velvet Revolver and Van Halen eras, this episode blends stand-up insight with classic rock passion. Funny, honest, and packed with great stories.
Derrick and Jeff invite the band Standard Issue—Mark Vines, Dennis Rosti, Tory Jay, and Jesse—to discuss the group's formation, members' backgrounds, and plans for the future. They explain how Dennis and Jesse began jamming after meeting through FAA work, how Tory joined, and how Mark came aboard after the original bassist Brandon left. The band teases the possibility of adding Johnny Lamb on keys and vocals, talks about the challenges of singing while playing, and shares influences ranging from Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson to Gene Simmons and Keith Moon. They run through their cover-heavy setlist (including Stone Temple Pilots, Audioslave, Alice In Chains, Metallica, Dio, and more), recap a successful first gig at the Delta Fair, promote an April 2 show at The 10th Inning in Southaven, and reveal upcoming recording sessions at Sun Studio with artist Michael Inger. In November 2025 Soundgarden was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. It feels fitting to invite longtime friend and guitarist Corey Rozzoni back onto the podcast for an episode about Soundgarden, Chris Cornell, and the legacy they have carved into the world of rock music. While this is not a complete history of one of Seattle's greatest bands, we did share our favorite era of Soundgarden, highlighted select tracks, and even touched on Cornell's later work with Audioslave. Thanks to Corey for joining Episode 226 of A-SIDES. You can explore more about Soundgarden on their official webpage with links to music, merch, and more. Thanks for listening!

On May 18, 2017, Chris Cornell — the iconic singer, songwriter, and one of the most powerful voices in rock history — passed away at the age of 52. Rising to prominence as the frontman of Soundgarden, Cornell helped define the Seattle grunge movement of the late 1980s and 1990s with his soaring vocal range and emotionally raw songwriting. He later expanded his legacy with Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, while also building a deeply personal solo career that showcased his versatility across rock, acoustic, and orchestral styles. Songs like “Black Hole Sun,” “Fell on Black Days,” and “Like a Stone” cemented his reputation as both a fearless artist and a poetic storyteller. By the time of his passing, Cornell was revered not just as a rock star, but as a generational voice whose music gave shape to pain, beauty, and vulnerability for millions around the world. Tom Morello celebrates the release of his latest solo track, "Everything Burns," featuring Beartooth and shares memories from Back to the Beginning.
In this week's mixtape rewind, we go back a couple of years to when Matt and Sam did a deep dive into music supergroups.Imagine loading a playlist where legends keep walking through the door. That's the ride we built as we dive into supergroups that actually deliver, from the crunch of Audioslave and the finesse of Cream to the indie cohesion of Boygenius and the pure joy of the Traveling Wilburys. We chase the central mystery behind these collaborations: when distinct sounds collide, what holds, what changes, and why does it matter? We start with the gravitational pull of great voices. Chris Cornell gives Audioslave immediate identity while Tom Morello adds that unmistakable edge, and Maynard James Keenan turns A Perfect Circle into a masterclass in mood without copying Tool. Then we test chemistry in the engine room: Chickenfoot fires up old-school rock craftsmanship, and Them Crooked Vultures stretch grooves into cinematic builds powered by Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, and John Paul Jones. For a genre swerve, Mount Westmore brings bass and swagger with Snoop, Too Short, E-40, and Ice Cube trading bars like it's a victory lap.Contrast keeps the mix alive. Wild Flag threads surfy drums with indie bite, and Boygenius shows how three solo voices can trade lead without crowding the song. Prophets of Rage fuse protest and power, pulling rap and rock tight around a sharp social focus, while The Highwaymen remind us that sometimes the most classic move—four giants trading verses—still lands hardest. And to cap it all, the Traveling Wilburys prove that when Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty decide to have fun, the hooks practically write themselves.Be Yourself by AudioslaveBig Subwoofer by MOUNT WESTMOREWhite Room by CreamDown the Drain by ChickenfootElephants by Them Crooked VulturesRomance by WILD FLAGPassive by A Perfect CircleBruised by The BensLiving on the 110 by Prophets of RageHighwayman by HighwaymanSatanist by boygeniusWilbury Twist by The Traveling Wilburys Support the showVisit us at https://www.superawesomemix.com to learn more about our app, our merchandise, our cards, and more!

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast, we've got two guys from different generations who've collided with big riffs in recent years: Tom Morello and Jordan Benjamin. Tom Morello is best known as the guitarist for Rage Against the Machine, which smashed together heavy music and activism in the 1990s, inspiring countless bands—some good, some bad, as he'll freely admit—to sprinkle some hip-hop into their rock. Morello went on to form Audioslave with Soundgarden's Chris Cornell and find a whole other area of success, but he didn't stop there: Morello goes wherever the muse takes him, from playing with Bruce Springsteen to doing acoustic sets as The Nightwatchman. He's always working on new music—and always outspoken politically. Morello tapped Jordan Benjamin to contribute to his 2021 single “Hold the Line,” which makes perfect sense, because the music that Benjamin records under the name Grandson is certainly inspired by Rage, among other artists of course. Grandson has been releasing records for the past decade or so, fusing hip-hop and alt-rock elements with unabashedly political lyrics. For his latest album under the Grandson name, Inertia, Benjamin leaned into a more organic rather than electronic sound—you'll hear him talk about the transition in this chat. Check out the song “God is an Animal” from Inertia right here. In this lively conversation, Morello and Benjamin talk about working together, about the magic of band chemistry, and about the “technological hellhole we find ourselves in.” It's still fun, though, check it out. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Jordan Benjamin and Tom Morello for chatting. Flea. This week on CounterSpin: Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé and … Oprah? They're among the entertainers in Trump's sights for, it would seem, endorsing Kamala Harris in the election and, maybe, for saying something unflattering about him or his actions — which, in his brain, and that of the minions who've chosen to share that brain, constitutes an illegal political contribution to his opponents, wherever they may lurk. At a moment when politicians who swore actual oaths are throwing over even the pretense of democracy, or public service — or basic human decency — many of us are looking to artists to be truth-tellers and spirit lifters: to convey, maybe, not so much information as energy — the fearless, collective, forward-looking joy that can sustain a beleaguered people in a threatening time. There's a deep history of protest music and music as protest, and our guest is very intentionally a part of it. Tom Morello is a guitarist; part of Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, Prophets of Rage and The Nightwatchman, among many other projects. His music has always been intertwined with his activism and advocacy for social, racial, economic justice. We talk about the work of artists in Trumpian times. Plus Janine Jackson takes a quick look at recent press coverage of the embassy shootings, a lawmaker's arrest, and commencement protests. The post Tom Morello on Music as Protest appeared first on KPFA.

From there, it's on to their breakout hit “Low Life”, a full review of their latest album Obsidian, and a look at how it stacks up against past efforts like Welcome to Fat City.We also take a moment to reflect on key events from May 18th in metal history, including the passing of Chris Cornell and the legacy of Blind Guardian, Soulfly, and HammerFall. And because this is MHOD, you know it wouldn't be complete without a bit of black metal nonsense from Immortal, a detour into OnlyFans coaching, and a punchy closer from Five Finger Death Punch.Plug in and turn it up—this one's got riffs, laughs, and just enough chaos to keep it interesting.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.White Zombie - More Human Than Humanhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0E0ynyIUsgCrobot - "Low Life" Official Music Video (MOTHERBRAIN)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPi_SaFsMf8Crobot - Nothing (Official Music Video)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CKT3LXQKec&list=PLVPMBFr-dNGWxLvdFACIxmCLaMKnq0Q0B&index=15Immortal - Call Of The Wintermoonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VBdAY8eA9wFive Finger Death Punch - Jekyll And Hydehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCBPmxiVMKkMik Wanamakers Onlyfans: https://onlyfans.com/asirencreatesMark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

As a teenager, Chris Cornell was traumatized by a bad PCP trip that turned him into a recluse for years. Music pulled him out of the darkness when he discovered his four-octave voice by accident – A voice he used to incredible effect as the frontman for both Soundgarden and Audioslave. But the darkness never really went away – it was there in his hometown of Seattle, where tragedies closed the chapter on grunge, and in his music, which was authentic to the very end. Tawny and Lisa discuss a recent essay in The Guardian titled I tried ‘intermittent sobriety'. Here's what I learned jumping on and off the wagon by Arwa Mahdawi. They appreciate the author's candid approach to harm reduction for the sake of self-discovery. Intermittent sobriety is similar to sober curiosity in that they both encourage thoughtful consideration in reevaluating one's relationship with alcohol without going fully sober. These booze-breaks can be regular, planned periods of sobriety or spontaneous decisions. Changing rituals, “playing the tape forward,” and spicy food-induced dopamine (!) are all suggested ways to help.
