In this episode, we explore the intersection of technology, scalability, and human connection. We begin with Peter Lancet from My Trencher, who discusses the "numbers game" university career services face. He explains how his platform provides an "operational layer" that allows small teams to support thousands of students, moving from reactive advice to strategically identifying and assisting those most at risk. The conversation then deepens with Doug Delpha, a Professor at the University of Strasbourg and AI Engineer. Doug advocates for a return to the "Aristotle and Plato" style of mentorship, arguing that while teachers must become AI-proficient, their primary role is to be a protected human figure who can handle sensitive student crises that chatbots simply cannot. Crucially, Doug also issues a wake-up call regarding digital sovereignty, challenging international institutions to build "elasticity" into their systems rather than relying blindly on American infrastructure that could be impacted by geopolitical shifts or outages. We then turn our focus to the administrative side of inclusion with Andy Bell from Trellis. A winner of the CivTech award in Scotland, Andy shares how his team is using AI to alleviate the paperwork burden in Special Educational Needs (SEND) departments. By transcribing meetings and automatically creating first drafts of child plans, Trellis is helping councils and teachers reclaim valuable time, allowing them to focus less on administration and more on the students who need them most. Welcome photographer and musician Josh Hight to the show. Josh's story is near and dear to me because it centers around two of my passions: music and photography. And Josh's story is not a straightforward one, either. Although his parents were both creative (his dad was in advertising and his mom was an interior designer) visual art came later. His first love was music. He's from Detroit and so its natural that he's into garage and punk rock. He joined up with another friend of the podcast, Toddrick Spalding, and played with The Detachment Kit. But, in true punk rock fashion, he heard London calling and moved to the U.K., where he attended school for graphic design. But his love for music was always there, working with Glen Johnson and Piano Magic, Tullia Benedicta, and others musically and visually. Once he met Richard Norris, the seeds of a new band, Pines, were sown. And that's where we find Josh now. He has released an EP with collaborations from artists like Andy Bell and more. The album is light and heavy, dreamy and scary. It's a must-hear collection of music. Find it on a multitude of streamers, on Bandcamp at www.richardnorris.bandcamp.com. "My dear sir, without doubt you have done for the art of singing what Columbus did for the steam engine."Grytpype-Thynne and Moriarty plan to escape dire poverty by taking out a £10,000 life insurance policy on Neddie Seagoon. They tell him he can collect the money the moment he's deceased, and give him an instruction book. After a number of stupid attempts to bring this about - which puts him into contact with Willium, Bluebottle, Eccles and Bloodnok - Seagoon finally discovers the meaning of the word 'deceased' and goes into hiding at the Albert Memorial. The drama climaxes in a shootout with him in between Bloodnok's regiment and a loaded record. Yet another Goon Show concerned with the vagaries of insurance policies, this episode was likely penned largely by Larry Stephens and if so it shows. 3369: Precisely Explains Why AI Fails Without Data Integrity

The Tech Blog Writer Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 2, 2025 25:16

In today's episode of Tech Talks Daily, I sat down with Andy Bell, Head of Data Product Management at Precisely, to explore a challenge that many organizations continue to underestimate: the role of data integrity in AI strategies. With only 12 percent of businesses expressing confidence in the quality of their AI data, it's clear that the rush to implement AI is often outpacing the readiness of the data that supports it. Andy and I unpack what happens when enterprises leap into generative or agentic AI without addressing foundational data issues. From hallucinations to bias to unreliable outputs, the risks are significant. As we discussed, these risks don't just impact models — they erode trust with customers and complicate accountability, especially in regulated industries where traceability is non-negotiable. We then explored the power of third-party data enrichment and how it can offer much-needed context that internal datasets often lack. Andy shared real-world examples, including how a major delivery company saved 65 million dollars by optimizing address accuracy and how San Bernardino County used Precisely's wildfire risk models to improve emergency planning. These aren't abstract use cases — they show measurable business value. Andy also introduced the Precisely Data Link program, a solution designed to make it easier to connect, manage, and query multiple third-party datasets. With persistent IDs and flexible delivery methods through APIs, managed services, and platforms like Snowflake and Databricks, Precisely is helping organizations speed up time to value while reducing integration headaches. Looking ahead, Andy shared how Precisely is building AI capabilities that allow users to query third-party data using natural language. This shift aims to make complex data interactions more intuitive and accessible to business users who may not be data engineers. If data is the fuel for AI, then the quality and context of that data will define the road ahead. Is your organization doing enough to ensure its data can be trusted by the AI it deploys?
