The sermon centers on Romans 16:17–20, drawing a profound connection between Paul's warning against divisive false teachers and the original temptation in Genesis 3, where Satan's deceitful flattery led to humanity's fall. It emphasizes that, despite the lingering presence of sin and the apparent delay of Christ's return, believers are called to remain faithful, wise, and innocent, knowing that Christ has already delivered the decisive blow against Satan through His death and resurrection. The passage reveals six gospel truths: Christ's return is delayed but certain, His coming is imminent, He will ultimately crush Satan, believers share in His victory, He is the God of peace who will bring final rest, and His triumph calls for humble worship, not self-reliance. These truths equip the church to resist temptation, endure trials, and live with hope, grounded in the unshakable promise that God's ultimate victory is already secured and will soon be fully realized.
In this episode, Fr. John Dear joins me to explore his latest book, Universal Love: Surrendering to the God of Peace and one of the core convictions at the center of it: genuine peacemaking begins not with better strategy or more effort, but with total surrender to the God of peace, to the will of God. We talk about what it looks like to take the Sermon on the Mount seriously, why following the non-violent Jesus is the way, and how the daily practice of "not my will, but yours" carries not only inner transformation, but political implications that go all the way to the streets.Fr. John Dear is an American peace activist, lecturer, author and Catholic priest residing in the Diocese of Monterey in California. Dear has written 40 books on Jesus, peace and nonviolence, and has been arrested 85 times in acts of nonviolent civil disobedience against war, injustice, poverty, racism, executions, nuclear weapons, and environmental destruction. He is the founder and director of the Beatitudes Center, where he offers the "Nonviolent Jesus Podcast". Fr. Sermon: 05-03-26 - "The God of Peace" – 1 Thessalonians 5:23-28 - Pastor Sean Dougherty The Sunday morning sermon of First Baptist Church of Kearney, Nebraska.
The “God of peace” sounds like a very chill sort of guy. But Paul says it's the “God of peace” who will crush Satan. Why is that? Let's find out together as we read Romans 16:17-23 and Isaiah 27.

Is God pro-exhaustion? Does he lead people beside quiet waters anymore? Does he want us to be living in this kind of hyper-activity all the time? I don't think so. Thomas Kelly once wrote, “God will not guide us into an intolerable scramble of panting feverishness.” And yet that's where most of us seem to live. How do we begin to turn things around? How do we tap into a sense of peace that comes through his presence? Discover one practical step in this episode of Gospel Wabi Sabi.

Peace can be hard to come by. Maybe you long for peace and quiet. Maybe you long to get rid of that unrest in your conscience. In this week's text, Paul tells the Philippians that they can cooperate with the presence of the God of peace in their lives by checking their thoughts and actions. Thinking on the right things and doing the right things, they will enjoy the presence of the God of peace.

Peace isn’t the absence of conflict, it’s the presence of Christ in the midst of it. This Advent message reframes how believers understand peace by exploring the tension between spiritual warfare and the promise of God’s shalom. Pastor Mitch walks through Romans 16, Ephesians 6, and other key texts to show why circumstances, people, and pressures aren’t the real thieves of our peace. Instead, we’re called to recognize the spiritual battle, reject passivity, cling to sound doctrine, and trust that the God of Peace will ultimately crush Satan under our feet. This is message 15 in The Names of God Series “God's Presence is Our Peace” Judges 6:1-24 God's presence is the source of true peace. When life is filled with fear, uncertainty, and pressure, peace does not come from changed circumstances but from knowing that the Lord is near. He speaks calm to the heart, strengthens faith in weakness, and reminds His people that His presence is always enough. What you think about matters. If you're constantly thinking about your mistakes, your failings, and the shame from your past you'll stay stuck in the past. If you're constantly thinking about your fears and anxieties for the future, you will stay stuck in the present. If you allow your mind to dwell on sinful things and go down corrupted paths, you will be miserable.

How we love, how we live, how we act, how we worship - is all downstream from what we believe; and if it's not rooted in the sound teachings of Scripture, it's easy to go astray in the practical out workings of living. In today's Morning Manna, Rick and Doc close out Romans chapter 15 with Paul's powerful appeal for intercessory prayer and spiritual unity. They explore Paul's journey to deliver an offering to Jerusalem, his deep yearning to visit the believers in Rome, and the mutual refreshment promised through fellowship. Paul's confidence in carrying the fullness of the blessing of Christ is a reminder that Christian companionship brings renewal and strength. The lesson ends with an exhortation to pray to the God of peace, who alone can calm minds, bodies, and homes. Rick encourages believers to speak peace over every storm and to expect revival and growth in the Morning Manna fellowship.Rick Wiles, Doc Burkhart.
