Welcome to Advent, a four-part series exploring the themes of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love as we prepare our hearts for Christmas. In this first episode, we dive into the power of Hope—God's promise to sustain us even in the waiting. *Due to technical difficulty, this recording begins a few minutes into the message.
Perhaps you're feeling that God has lost sight of you. Perhaps you're frustrated that others who you know aren't following Christ seem to have an easier time than you. God has a word of comfort for you. We need to live in the light of the future hope of the Messiah's return. Zechariah 1:7-17 Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
This morning we talk about how much humility it took, and what a sacrifice it was, that God came and became man.
The Israelites are back in the Promised Land, but are they returning to their bad habits? God sends his prophet Zechariah to say there's hope beyond their current situation—and hope of another Promised Land far in the future with the Messiah. Where is Christmas? The answer is found in the God who wants to demonstrate his faithfulness to us. And by doing so, we place our hope in him who wants to be with us in the present and forevermore. God is Immanuel.
This Sunday we begin the Advent season talking about hope in a suffering world. The Christmas song, "O Come, O Come, Immanuel" was written over half a millennium ago and we continue to sing this hopeful song today because God is with us (Immanuel). We are not alone.
This message is about how God came down and entered in to barrenness and brings us hope.Time:MorningMinister:Rev. Taylor KernTexts:Luke 1:57–80Series:Advent 2024
This sermon introduces the Advent series, Hymns of Hope, by reflecting on Mary's song in Luke 1, the first Christmas hymn. Advent, a season of waiting and anticipation, centers on the arrival of Jesus and God's faithfulness to His promises. Mary's story exemplifies how God's mindfulness and might collide with human frailty. Despite her humble and vulnerable position, Mary's faith leads her to celebrate God's mercy, justice, and provision. Pastor Blake Burrough draws parallels between Mary's experience and our own, highlighting how God enters into our weakness and fulfills His promises for His glory and our joy. Through Mary's song, we see that God is mindful of the overlooked and mighty for the helpless, inviting us to trust Him fully.
Pastor John Tucker and his wife Jane share comfort for those who have walked the painful road of sexual abuse by tactfully answering the following questions: Of all kinds of sin in this world, why is sexual abuse so devastating to the victim? For someone who has been abused, how do they know if it is something they still need to work through with a biblical counselor? What are wrong ways people deal with shame, and what is God's prescription for how to move forward to healing? How can someone move forward in hope and trust into a future relationship, not protecting what happened in the past in this future situation? For those who feel that they have “baggage” or are tarnished in some way, how can they place their identity in Christ instead of a past event? And if you're the friend of someone who has walked through abuse, how can you effectively come alongside and help bear that burden with them? We have arrived at the end of Season 4! Its been a ride with this brood. The last episode of the season is a "special" that has us watching some Duggar Child birthdays (except for one), a ridiculous amount of Pest content, and listen to Whitney and I stress out, big time due to them still planning a birthday party less than 8 hours before its supposed to start. Ugh. We are continuing our tradition of doing a "State of the Pod" episode to close out the season. Whitney will be dropping a post where you can drop us a question for our Q&A segment of the episode next week. Keep your eyes peeled for that. Like What You Hear? Biblical Talks Life's challenges may sometimes seem overwhelming. Despite the circumstances, you may have been seeking a solution for years, willing to try almost anything, yet without success. In those moments, hopelessness may creep in. However, it is crucial to stay persistent in hope, trusting that God has a plan. In this episode of Biblical Talks, SD and Lady V explore an example of this in John 5:1-15 from the New Living Translation. This scripture gives the account of a man paralyzed for thirty-eight years, lying at the pool of Bethesda. Legend told of an angel descending to stir the waters of the pool. The first one to enter after the stirring would be cured of any ailment they suffered. The paralyzed man was present, yearning to be the fortunate one, yet his attempts were fruitless. But his persistence in hope never wavered, year after year. You see, God had a plan – a perfect plan – on the way. Upon Jesus of Nazareth's return to Jerusalem during a Jewish holy day, He encountered the paralyzed man. Following a brief conversation, Jesus healed him, and the man immediately regained the ability to walk. Although the man had been waiting for the stirring of the pool, God had a different plan in store for him. With that in mind, here are a couple questions for you. Have you read John 5:1-15? If so, what are your thoughts? If not, no worries, we've got you covered. In any case, join us with your Bible or Bible app. Also, go ahead and use the player at the top of this blog post or subscribe and listen via your preferred podcast platform to follow along. Then get encouraged by joining SD and Lady V in this Biblical Talk — Stay Persistent in Hope — GOD Has a Plan. Scriptures Referenced in Episode Discussion John 5:1-15 NLT Luke 18:1-8 John 14:6 Luke 1:37 Numbers 6:24-26 Ephesians 2:8-9 Romans 10:9-10 John 3:16-17 Receive your Free Gift of Salvation – The Gospel of Jesus Christ Explanation If you are reading this, it is not by chance. This is your time to receive the Gift of Salvation through Christ Jesus. Now, you may be wondering, "Why do I need that?" Oh, I'm so glad you asked. The Bible says, that because Adam ate fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil -- he released sin into the world. And ultimately, Adam's sin brought death and death spread to everyone. No doubt, you may be thinking, "Of course, everyone is going to die." But, my question to you is "Where will you spend eternity?" Because there is life after death. In fact, when you die you go to one of two places -- heaven or hell. Also, it is important to understand that, Adam's sin also brought an eternity in hell. But for those who choose not to receive the free gift of eternal life. Thus, you must make that choice before you take your last breath. Romans 5:17 New Living Translation says, “For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.” To sum it all up, Romans 6:23 New Living Translation says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” So, if you are reading this, don't let another day go by without receiving this life-changing gift. Scripture Romans 10:8-10 New Living Translation says, “8 …“The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.” And that message is the very message about faith that we preach: 9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.” Salvation Prayer Lord Jesus, I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins.
Michael Penfold preaches on God's covenantal plan to rule the world, in a future kingdom age, through His Son Jesus Christ, during which time a restored nation of Israel will be “the head not the tail”, and Jerusalem will be the centre of the world geographically, politically and spiritually. Sermon Title: "God's Faithfulness Through Our Failures: Lessons from Abram's Journey" I. Introduction: Learning from Abram's Journey A. Brief Recap of Genesis 12: Abram's failure to trust God during the famine and his decision to go to Egypt. Highlight the consequences of relying on his own understanding rather than God's guidance. Emphasize how these actions led to personal compromise and family tension. B. Transition to Genesis 13: Despite Abram's failures, God remains faithful. God's grace is not thwarted by human error; He continues His plan of redemption. II. Choosing Faith over Fear (Genesis 13:1-4) A. Returning to the Place of Worship: After leaving Egypt, Abram returns to Bethel, where he had previously built an altar. Discuss the significance of “returning” and how it symbolizes repentance and realignment with God's will. B. Worship as a Response to God's Deliverance: God delivers Abram and Sarai from Egypt, and Abram's response is worship. The proper response to God's mercy and grace is worship and gratitude, not guilt or shame. III. The Test of Generosity and Trust (Genesis 13:5-13) A. Conflict Between Abram and Lot: The land cannot support both Abram's and Lot's herds, leading to tension. Rather than escalate the conflict, Abram offers Lot the first choice of land. B. Lot's Worldly Decision: Lot chooses the fertile plains of Jordan, which are near the sinful city of Sodom. Discuss how Lot's decision reflects worldly desires and how it foreshadows future trouble. C. Abram's Faith in God's Provision: Abram's willingness to let Lot choose first shows his growing faith in God's promises. Abram trusts that God will provide, no matter the outcome. IV. God's Reaffirmation of His Promise (Genesis 13:14-18) A. God's Assurance After Separation from Lot: God reaffirms His promise to Abram after he parts ways with Lot. God invites Abram to “look in every direction” and promises him descendants as numerous as the dust of the earth. B. Building Another Altar: Abram's response to God's reaffirmation is worship once again—he builds another altar. Emphasize the pattern of worship in Abram's life and how it reflects a heart aligned with God. V. Application: Trusting in God's Faithfulness Despite Our Failures A. Return to God After Failure: Like Abram, we often fail in trusting God, but He is always ready to welcome us back when we repent. Returning to where we last encountered God's presence and favor is crucial. B. Choose Faith Over Selfish Gain: Lot's choice represents a focus on temporary, worldly gain, whereas Abram's choice reflects eternal values. Encourage the congregation to choose God's path, even if it seems less favorable by worldly standards. C. Rejoice in God's Unchanging Faithfulness: God's faithfulness to Abram, despite his missteps, should remind us of God's unwavering commitment to His promises. Reference Philippians 1:6 and C.H. Spurgeon's quote on God's continuous work in our lives. VI. Conclusion: God's Faithfulness and Our Response A. God's Goodness in the Midst of Our Failures: Even when we fail, God's goodness remains. He does not abandon His children but works all things for His glory. B. Call to Action: Repent of areas where we have tried to “help” God by taking matters into our own hands. Trust in His timing and His promises, just as Abram learned to do. C. Encouragement and Hope: God's plans are not thwarted by our failures. Walk confidently, knowing that He who began a good work in you will see it through to completion.

It taught me a lot.” - Matt Forté “Put in a lot of hard work, but also have faith in yourself and really have faith in God that He is a good God, that He has good plans for you as well.” - Matt Forté “Had it not been for Jesus coming down and dying for our sins and living a sinless life and paying the debt for what we've accumulated, there would be no hope. And in return, we have to reflect the hope that He's given us.” - Matt Forté “I think there's something formative about that that kind of clicks in a comedian's brain, that extra little bump of attention that you get from someone laughing or you kind of push someone's buttons in a way. There's something about that that is pretty remarkable.” - Jonnie W. “I like to think about the people that are coming to my shows and what private pain they might have, what they might need release from. My comedy comes from a place of faith. I feel like it's such a gift that I discovered that I could do this and that God's opened doors for me to go do it, so I never take it for granted.” - Jonnie W. “I think you're missing out on something that God wired inside of you if you're not laughing.” - Jonnie W. ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! "Every space where you sense separation between the HOPE God has spoken and the HEALING you're presently holding is an invitation to restoration." In this message, we go to John 21 and join Peter on the beach. Though Jesus has raised from the dead, Peter has returned to what is predictable and familiar, no longer sure where he ‘fits' in the bigger story. Jesus' reinstatement of Peter is an invitation to us to receive RESTORATION, so that we go forth as ministers of RECONCILIATION. If you've been hurt, wounded, or disoriented in the days you're in, this is a message for YOU!
Have you ever been around sheep? What an interesting animal for God to use as a description of us! They are not the strongest, fastest, smartest… in fact they don’t really have much to offer at all! God doesn’t use this term to be as descriptive of us as it is used to be descriptive of Him. He is the Good Shepherd. We are His flock. He cares, guides, corrects, directs, provides, and protects us. How does He do those things today? Through “under-shepherds”. God works within the local church to raise up Elders who are called to shepherd the flock for Him. Being sheep themselves, this calling is massive and heavy. Join us this weekend to see more of what God’s word calls Elders to, and also the call of those who are not Elders as we are all HIS sheep! Key Verse: 1 Peter 5:6 - ”Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.“ For Scripture, notes, upcoming events, & more: http://bible.com/events/49210946

In this episode, Tyler shares the case that started it all. Victor Galarza and Herbert Fletcher were the two men that brought Libertas International to Colombia after they were traveling to Medellin to abuse young girls and upload the abuse to Pornhub. At current count, Project Eternal Spring has resulted the recovery of 9 survivors of human trafficking and numerous lawsuits vs. Mindgeek. And they are still coming. At least once a year, a survivor will listen to a radio interview or read a news article about Libertas International and reach out for help after having been exploited by Galarza, Fletcher, and their friends. Lesson 6 - God our Only Hope of Rest Psalm 62, Psalm 73 and Psalm 131. Life can be hard. People and circumstances can come against us and cause us to doubt, to fear, to wobble a bit, perhaps. But when we come to understand who God is and as we seek understanding from Him, we begin to see everything around us more clearly. We have a fortress, a refuge we can run to; and as we put our trust in Him we can know true rest.
Lesson 5 - The God Who ForgivesPsalm 51, Psalm 32 and Psalm 103. David knew what it was to suffer unjustly; but he also knew the pain of having to endure the consequences of his own sins and failures. These Psalms detail David's repentance for sin and also God's response. Like David we are to remember all that God has done for us and give wholehearted thanks for His love, goodness, compassion, forgiveness, and salvation.
Lesson 4 - God our RefugePsalm 142, Psalm 57 and Psalm 34. These three Psalms were written as David hid in the Cave of Adullam or the Cave of Refuge. Although this was perhaps the most frustrating period in David's life — in hindsight, it turned out to be one of the most fruitful, because all he learned there about himself and about the Lord made him the king God wanted him to be! God does some of His best work in the darkest moments of our lives!
Genesis 3:20-21
Lesson 3God our HelperPsalm 121 and Psalm 84. Surely there will be mountains that we have to climb in life, but we do not have to travel the road alone! God will not let our foot slip, no matter how treacherous the path that we take. Though there will be valleys filled with tears, if we will but look to Him for help, He will use us — not in spite of what we have gone through, but because of it!

Lesson 2God our Faithful ProtectorPsalm 91. God protects us. He draws us close to Himself, in the secret place near to His heart, and shelters us like a mother hen does her chicks. Because Christ has already won the victory against that old serpent Satan, we too will triumph over him and all his efforts to harm us. We aren't promised a life of freedom from the enemy's attacks but we are promised that God will answer when we call to Him.
Lesson 1The God Who Sees You.Psalm 139 and Psalm 23. God is completely aware of the lives we lead. He knows what we do; but He also knows our thoughts. He is aware of our personalities and our temperaments, our strengths and weaknesses. Being known so thoroughly and watched over so carefully can sound uncomfortable, however David confirms in Psalm 23 that our loving Heavenly Father can be trusted. He watches over us rather like a shepherd watches over his sheep as he leads them to safety.
Advent is a time to think about what's coming, and what it means to wait. The way that advent does this, is it makes us look two directions at the same time. Backwards and Forwards. At Advent we remember what it was like for God's people to wait for Jesus for thousands of years. From the beginning, they waited for the coming, conquering son. Advent also reminds us that we too are waiting for Jesus. His future return. We see in both situations that God is patient and we will talk about why that is in this lesson.
We have hope because God is the Author of our story, and we are not. We have hope because we are not alone. We have hope because Jesus is the protagonist of our story. We have hope because God is the Author The Author and Finisher of our faith is the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word is Jesus, and the language the Author speaks is Christ. When God spoke and wrote the story of redemption, His speech wasn't in the mode of sentences or nouns or verbs or articles or predicates. The language He spoke in the New Covenant was Jesus. We have hope because we are not alone God. Is writing. Your. Story. And in the story God writes for you, you are not the only character in your story. You do not walk alone. Heaven is cheering you on right now. Can you hear it? Listen to the great crowd of witnesses who surround you right now. We have hope because Jesus is the protagonist of our story But perhaps the best part of your story is that you are not the protagonist of it. Jesus is. Jesus is the protagonist. The victor. The firstborn. And this is our hope. As Mentioned in the Podcast The FCC requires that I tell you that I'm an Amazon Affiliate, which means I earn a bit of commission on each sale.
