That's not a real Saison@YazooBrew @barriquebrewing @BrasserieDupont @oecbrewing @HawRiverAles @HVBrewery #saison #saisonbeer #beer #tribute #podcast #radioshow Co hosts : Good ol Boy Dave, Rev Mark, Good ol Boy Mike, Good ol Boy Barger, Good ol Boy Kendall, Good ol Boy, Sparky, Good ol Boy Tim, and Good ol Gal Julieanna SUDS Episode – One of our co-hosts passed away about a year ago and we decided to host a episode in tribute to Good ol Boy Caperton. We still really miss him and drinking beer with him. He was fanatical about Saison style beers and was very polarized about his feedback. Brewers feared his wrath if they ventured too far off his declarative boundaries of a true Saison. Some of these we got to enjoy with Caperton before he passed away and others we wish we could have shared with him. We taste and rate the following beer from 1-5: Rev Mark - Birthday Saison ale – brewed with Pilsner, Vienna, and Rye malts from Riverbend Malting, special yeast from Escarpment Labs, and dry-hopped with New Zealand Hops. 5.5% ABV. Yazoo Brewing Company, Nashville, TN in collaboration with Perennial Artisan Ales, St. Louis MO. SUDS-4Good ol' Boy Sparky – Petite Sipper sour table saison – refermented with Tennessee grown watermelons, including the rind. 3% ABV. Barrique Brewing and Blending Nashville, TN SUDS-5Good ol' Boy Kendall – Saison Dupont- 6.5% ABV – Brasserie Dupont- Tourpes, Wallonie Belgium. SUDS-5Good ol' Boy Tim – Saison – brewed with Belgian Pilsner, Vienna malt, unmarked wheat and rolled oats from Thrall family malt Windsor, CT. 5.5% ABV OEC (Ordinem Ecentrici Coctores) Brewing, Oxford, CT SUDS-4Good ol' Boy Mike – Saison De Bois – single cask 1, batch 5. 5.25 ABV. Yazoo Brewing Company Nashville, TN SUDS-5Good ol' Boy Dave – Funk the Flying Tiger – tart saison brewed with trifoliate oranges. 6.2% ABV Haw River farmhouse ales Saxapahaw, NC SUDS-4Good ol' Gal Julieanna – Mirrorshield – sour IPA with raw wheat, malted oats, milk sugar, lychee, chamomile, and lavender. 7% ABV Hudson Valley Brewery Beacon, NY SUDS-4 info@sipssudsandsmokes.com X- @sipssudssmokes IG/FB - @sipssudsandsmokes Sips, Suds, & Smokes® is produced by One Tan Hand Productions using the power of beer, whiskey, and golf. The Battle of Wanat was one of the deadliest battles during the war in Afghanistan. Countless official Army / Government and other civilian organizations have studied and produced papers regarding this battle. What few talk about is – what was – one of the hardest enemies to fight; CORRUPTION. Afghanistan was filled with it. Here is a brief firsthand account from the RC East Commander, Retired Two Star Jeffrey Schloesser. “The July 13, 2008 battle at Wanat, near the Pakistani frontier, was one of the bloodiest since the Afghan war began in 2001. A U.S. force of 49, plus 24 Afghan troops, desperately fought off an attack by some 200 Taliban fighters, calling in air strikes barely 30 feet from their own positions during the struggle. The platoon, in close combat with Taliban fighters, repelled the enemy after nearly four hours of intense fire at a cost of nine Americans dead and 27 wounded.” Never Forget Jonathan Brostrom. 24, Aiea, HawaiiIsrael Garcia. 24, Long Beach, CaliforniaJonathan Ayers. 24, Snellville, GeorgiaJason Bogar. 25, Seattle Washington Jason Hovater. 24, Clinton, TennesseeMatthew Phillips. 27, Jasper, GeorgiaPruitt Rainey. 22, Haw River, North CarolinaGunnar Zwilling. 20, Florissant, MissouriSergio Abad. 21, Morganfield Kentucky

Haw River Cultural Divide sour kettled saison This brewery is from Saxapahaw, North Carolina! IDK if I had a beer from that state. The beer is a “sour cherry turnover, kettle-soured saison,” which is basically short for a sour beer. The beer was not soured by bacteria, but by lactic acid, which is a much … Continue reading "Haw River Cultural Divide sour kettled saison"

Heather Stapleton is a professor and Lee Ferguson is an associate professor at Duke University. In this episode Heather and Lee discuss how discovery of GenX in North Carolina's Cape Fear River sparked testing for PFAS in waterways across the state, which found elevated levels of the forever chemicals in the Haw River. They explain how an exposure study is examining PFAS in drinking water, resident's blood levels, and effects on birth outcomes. Heather and Lee also talk about developing policy recommendations for managing PFAS. Wanda Bodnar, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering at UNC Chapel Hill and serving as the Scientist Program Analyst for the NC PFAS Testing Network. Dr. Bodnar's specialty is the development and application of qualitative and quantitative mass spectrometry-based methods to improve our understanding of the health effects that result from exposure to environmental contaminants. She is focused on quality control and quality assurance of experimental processes and data generation to ensure scientific rigor. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS, are man-made compounds that are resistant to water and grease. Some PFAS have been linked with a wide range of health effects from thyroid disease to high cholesterol to lower birth weight, as well as some cancers. PFAS chemicals are likely contaminating the source of drinking water for more than a million North Carolina residents by running from the Haw River into the Cape Fear River. The PFAS Testing Network is a statewide research collaboration to test for current levels of PFAS chemicals in drinking water and air samples across the state. The Network comprises Principal Investigators from NC State, Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Charlotte, ECU, and NC A&T who have received NC General Assembly funding through the NC Policy Collaboratory. The NC PFAST Network was created in response to a legislative mandate and funding by the North Carolina General Assembly to help answer questions about exposure to PFAS chemicals throughout NC. With Wanda, we talk about the NC PFAS Testing Network, the research on PFAS that they've done and are doing, removal of PFAS in the environment, communicating PFAS to the public, and what you all can do.
