In this episode of the Raising Godly Girls Podcast, co-hosts Rachael and Natalie explore the power of words and how shifting language norms have played a role in deepening societal divides. They reflect on the subtle ways polarization can infiltrate our lives and how, as parents, we can equip our girls to resist these pressures through a Biblical Worldview. By teaching our daughters to recognize division as a tactic of the enemy, we can help them lean into the unifying power of the Holy Spirit.  Drawing inspiration from Romans 12:9-18, the hosts explore the idea that true Christian unity is rooted in love, humility, and hospitality. They share practical tips for fostering conversations with your daughters that invite understanding rather than division, emphasizing the value of asking questions like, “What do you think God feels about this issue?”  Rachael and Natalie also highlight the importance of demonstrating “radical hospitality,” offering a seat at the table to those with differing views while remaining grounded in Biblical Truth. The hosts discuss real-life examples, including the story of King David and Mephibosheth, as a reminder that God calls us to extend compassion and grace, even to those who might challenge us.  Finally, the episode connects these concepts to the American Heritage Girls (AHG) Program, where girls learn servant leadership through badges like the Identity Badge, All God's Children Badge, and the Social Skills & Etiquette Badge. This year's theme of VISION challenges girls to put on “Godly goggles” and view others the way God does, equipping them to bring unity and peace into their communities.  Tune in for an encouraging discussion on how Christian families can bridge today's cultural divide through Biblical hospitality, unity, and love. How do we talk with the people with whom we disagree the most? Especially in today's toxic social, religious, and political environment, where disagreement is seen as treason and we're all on the edge of being canceled? This week, we had our eyes opened when Justin Lee gave us some practical advice for how to communicate with those across the aisle--and why our old arguments have always failed so miserably. Justin first appeared on our radar in the early 2000s, when the "Great Debate" on his blog about LGBTQ+ inclusion in the church broke new ground in showing that there is such a thing as a committed, faithful, gay Christian, and arguing that the Bible may not say exactly what we think it does about all queer relationships through all time and circumstances. That conversation turned into the popular book "Torn: Rescuing the Gospel from the Gays-vs.-Christians Debate," which was recently updated in a 2024 edition. Justin has now turned his attention to an even bigger picture, focusing on the many ways that we disagree across different aspects of our society, and dives deep into the causes of our disagreements, why our old ways of arguing with one another often backfire and make the divine even wider, and practical tools and methods of having productive conversations with the people who disagree with us the most. His essential book on this topic is called "Talking Across the Divide: How to Communicate with People You Disagree with and Maybe Even Change the World" Bio: Justin Lee has been successfully bridging cultural divides for 25 years. He first developed his strategic dialogue techniques while working at the difficult intersection of faith and LGBTQ issues, where he became internationally known for helping heal family and community rifts. His book on that subject, Torn, is now one of the most widely read in the field. Justin's latest book, Talking Across the Divide: How to Communicate with People You Disagree With—and Maybe Even Change the World, draws on scientific research and real-world examples to apply these same techniques to today's political and social conflicts. SUBSCRIBE Can we bridge the growing cultural divide or are we destined to fragment even further? Join us for a riveting discussion as we dissect the complexities of modern societal conflicts with our esteemed guests  Hank Kopel, Dr. John Mills, Wilfred Reilly, Mark McDonald, M.D. , and Joshua Slocum.  This episode tackles four critical arenas: sex, gender, and family structure; recreational drug usage; religion in the public square; and DEI and critical theory on race, gender, and sexuality. Through legislative and litigation battles, our panel unpacks the tensions between conservative and progressive viewpoints, revealing how these conflicts have evolved from past generational demands to today's radical challenges.Explore the psychoanalytic concept of "splitting" and understand how binary thinking is deepening the cultural divide in the West. Our panel examines the exacerbating effects of the pandemic and the murder of George Floyd, showing how these events have contributed to a victimization mentality and social resentment. With a focus on economic disparities, geopolitical tensions, and existential threats, we reveal how these layers impact everything from family dynamics and mental health to national unity and democratic stability. This exploration highlights the far-reaching consequences of disinformation and social media pathologies in fragmenting society.Addressing the feminization of society and its broader implications, our discussion delves into the rise of emotional and empathetic approaches and the decline of traditional masculinity. This shift, according to our panel, has led to a narcissistic society where truth and reality are often inverted. We scrutinize the psychological underpinnings of societal divides and the normalization of core mental deficits, culminating in cultural beliefs that challenge conventional thinking. Concluding with an interactive Q&A session, our guests offer diverse perspectives and emphasize the necessity of balanced, objective realities. Accepting shortcomings and taking responsibility are important aspects of parenting that can inspire personal growth and motivation. The happiness derived from parenting is influenced by the parenting style and the intergenerational relationships it fosters. Elitism and bias can hinder productive conversations and understanding. Researchers should acknowledge the limitations and challenges of psychological research. Certainty in complex social phenomena is unrealistic; uncertainty is inherent in scientific exploration. The value of sacrifice and the complexity of personal choices should be considered. Honest and sincere conversations are essential in a society dominated by social media and tribalism. Phoenix Rising: Journeys of Descending into the Mysteries & Rising from the Roots.

In this powerful and insightful episode, Traver Boehm and Lisa Hillyer dive deep into the critical issues of pain, addiction, and societal expectations facing both men and women. Traver shares his personal experiences and observations on the epidemic levels of opiate use in America, the underlying pain driving substance abuse, and the societal pressures that contribute to mental health crises, especially among men. They discuss the importance of creating spaces where men can express vulnerability, the cultural divide between genders, and the urgent need for compassion and understanding to bridge these gaps. Opiate Epidemic: Traver recalls a talk he gave in 2011, highlighting America's excessive consumption of opiates compared to the rest of the world. He emphasizes the correlation between high painkiller use and the underlying pain in society. Substance Abuse as Pain Management: The conversation explores how alcohol and drugs are often used as coping mechanisms for pain, social anxiety, and the pressure to conform to societal norms. Men's Workshops: Traver discusses the significance of men's workshops where participants are encouraged to express their emotions and experiences freely, fostering a supportive environment that contrasts sharply with societal expectations of stoicism. Gender Differences in Handling Pain: Lisa and Traver talk about how men and women are conditioned differently in dealing with pain and trauma. Women are generally more accepted in seeking therapy and expressing emotions, whereas men face stigma and pressure to "man up." Societal Expectations and Toxic Masculinity: The episode delves into the harmful effects of toxic masculinity and the misconception that men must be unemotional and tough. Traver argues for a redefinition of masculinity that allows for emotional expression and healing. Communal Healing: Both speakers highlight the necessity of communal support systems where individuals can fall apart and be supported, emphasizing the power of shared healing experiences. Impact of Trauma: Traver shares heart-wrenching stories from his workshops, illustrating the deep-seated trauma many men carry and the urgent need for compassionate understanding and support. Global Perspectives on Masculinity: Lisa contrasts Western societal norms with observations from her travels in India, where men openly express affection and seem to experience higher levels of happiness despite having less material wealth. Cultural Divide and Healing: The episode concludes with a discussion on the need for men and women to understand and support each other better, breaking down societal barriers and working towards communal healing. Traver Boehm is the author of the books “Today I Rise” and “Man UNcivilized”. He's a two-time TEDx speaker, men's coach, and the founder of the UNcivilized Men's Movement. He's helped men all over the world to become UNcivilized as they wake up to the power of their hearts, the brilliance of their bodies, and the wisdom of their souls so they can blaze their own path by uniquely blending both the primal and the divine within them. How the Elites' Reaction to Alicia Keys' Halftime Performance Explains the Rise of Trumpism

Reviving Virtue: Pragmatism and Perspective in Modern Times

In this episode, I explore the complex relationship between meritocracy, credentialism, and the rise of Trumpism in the United States. Using Alicia Keys' Super Bowl halftime performance and the elites' reaction to it as a starting point, I delve into how the ideals of perfectionism and meritocracy have created a cultural divide that fuels resentment and disillusionment among a large portion of the American population.I examine the historical and philosophical roots of these issues, tracing the origins of the modern meritocratic worldview back to the Protestant Reformation and the rise of capitalism. I discuss how this shift in thinking has led to a society that places immense value on individual achievement and success, often at the expense of acknowledging the role of luck, privilege, and systemic factors.I argue that this meritocratic ethos, combined with the concept of credentialism, has left many Americans feeling left behind and resentful of the elites who seem to benefit from this system. I suggest that this resentment has created a fertile ground for the rise of Trumpism, which offers a voice to those who feel disenfranchised and ignored by the dominant narrative of meritocracy.Throughout the video, I draw on the works of various scholars and thinkers, including Michael Sandel, Max Weber, Jackson Lears, and Wendell Berry, to support my analysis and provide a deeper understanding of the issues at hand. Here is a link to my article on Medium, where I explore these ideas in greater depth.

Not only that, but each reader who opens the Bible is a products or his or her own geography, time, and culture. Why does it matter that we understand this? Because if we are going to be careful students of Scripture, we must keep the cultural aspects of the Biblical literature in our minds. In this sermon, we will explore how to overcome cultural barriers and engage in meaningful conversations that foster understanding, respect, and unity. We will learn practical ways to reach across cultural divides, extending God's love to all people.SERIES: LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY JESUSIn this dynamic sermon series, Let Me Tell You About My Jesus,  we will explore the vital role of everyday evangelism in various aspects of our lives. We will focus on four essential themes: work, telling our story, breaking cultural divides, and evangelizing in a broken world. Join us as we discover how to effectively live out our faith and share the transformative power of the Gospel in our daily interactions. We will be inspired and encouraged to live out our faith boldly, allowing God to use us as agents of change in our workplaces, communities, and beyond. Together, let us embrace the call to everyday evangelism and participate in God's redemptive work in the world.DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Have you dealt with, or do you have any unattended division in your heart? If so, ask God to help you deal with those things that keep you from experiencing his love fully and to embrace and share Jesus with others. 2. Have you developed a Christ-Centered Perspective on breaking the cultural barriers in your life? If not, ask God to help you, and to come in your life and heart to have Jesus' eyes. 3. Have you ever experienced prejudices? This question refers to the pre-judgment of people, groups, races, religions, and ethnicities and how we pre-judge them.https://www.springcreekchurch.org/#realspringcreekchurch #letmetellyouaboutmyjesus #breakingtheculturaldivide

TODAY'S GUEST   Today, we're talking about coliving.   I've long believed that paying attention to the fact that humans evolved to live in tribes, as opposed to isolated nuclear families, was the key to unlocking a tremendous amount of latent needs, wellbeing, and happiness. Today, a convergence of different trends is making coliving a real movement in the west.   Whereas in much of the world, living in community is a thing as old as time. The rise in real estate costs, financial recession, urban loneliness, the digital nomad lifestyle, and the advent of online communities and coworking spaces led many to a natural conclusion — that living more densely when it involves a real community of like-minded individuals could be not only more affordable, but actually more fulfilling.   Commercial coliving companies such as Selina, Outpost, and Adam Neumann's new Flow, as well as thousands of coliving communities around the world, are offering a less lonely, more connected, and fuller hospitality, travel, or long-term living experience. They help making sense of a new city, finding new friends, and experiencing belonging, a much more straightforward process, and in the process help us challenge the way things have always been done. That's why I was excited to talk to Leah Ziliak.    Leah founded The Coliving Consultant in 2019 and has become one of the most sought-after coliving professionals in the field. She's an international speaker, writer, and entrepreneur, and works with coliving brands around the world to create positive customer experiences within shared living. As a digital nomad, Leah travels the world full-time and works with clients both on-site and remotely.   We spoke in January 2023, and it was really great to learn from Leah, who's clearly thought about these topics deeply and has deep experience, both living in and designing these sorts of communities.   EPISODE SUMMARY   In this conversation we talk about: Her digital nomad lifestyle. How having a pen pal from another country instilled a desire in her to explore other cultures. What it was like to live and work on a cruise ship. Why she left her music career to become a digital nomad and coliving consultant. What is coliving, and what are the range of options for the coliving curious? Why is coliving becoming such a trend around the world? The freeing experience of coliving for solo digital nomads. The value of community and the importance of friendships. Different types of coliving spaces. Coliving versus packing more people in a small space. Crafting a community experience, and also a hospitality experience. Getting people involved in the creation versus supplying everything. Coliving and old age. Why is coliving slower to take off in the United States? The urge to explore the world versus the urge to lay roots and nest. And her new group, teaching more women how to travel solo.   Design is all about challenging defaults, and so what stayed with me the most is how important it is to challenge societal defaults in terms of our living situation, geography, and lifestyle. Who said the right way to live is to work hard all day so that you can afford a large house with a fence and smart locks to keep everyone else out? And who said that we have to wait until retirement to spend significant time traveling the world?   We have some amazing episodes lined up for you with thinkers, designers, makers, authors, and activists, answering questions like:   What do most people still need to understand about transgender and non-binary individuals? Why is prototyping essential to making truly new things? What's the value of knowing what you're about and crafting a personal manifesto? And how can we find the freedom to think in an increasingly connected world?   So follow this podcast on your favorite podcast app, or head over to RemakePod.org to subscribe. Today, Rishi Sunak will become Britain's third prime minister in seven weeks. As the New York Times reports, Sunak will also be the youngest prime minister in two centuries and the first person of Hindu faith to achieve the UK's highest elected office. Additionally, his personal wealth is more than double that of King Charles III. Critics fear that Sunak cannot identify with the people he will lead and the rising challenges they face—which leads to an interesting correlation on the question of America's wokeism. What is wisdom? How do we know what is right or wise? Our world has different perspectives on wisdom because people come from different sets of knowledge, experience, & discernment. God's wisdom can bridge our cultural divide… 1. God's wisdom is found in God's Word 2. God's wisdom is about His Son 3. God's wisdom is revealed through His Spirit 4. God's wisdom is discerned by Jesus ✨ We have God's Word in our hands, the wisdom of God at our fingertips. We have the opportunity to know His will, His plan, His character, His love! ✨ God's wisdom is opposite of human wisdom, & it is why it can build bridges across our cultural divide, but we cannot understand it from our perspective. ✨ The Holy Spirit is the one who shows you your need for Jesus. He shows you your sin & lifts your burden when you repent ✨ Jesus is able to bridge the cultural divide Are you ready to trust Him with all your impassible barriers? We live in some of the most divisive times in human history. Our cultural divide is wide and getting wider by the day. And the way we communicate with each other is changing – for the worse – to reflect this new reality. We're separating the world into us and them – that is people who hold the same opinion and beliefs as us, and those morons, misfits, and menaces that hold differing opinions than our own.  But how would our health and well-being improve if we learned to communicate better? Heck, how would the WORLD change for the better? What if we learned to communicate with ourselves, our loved ones, and even those we may violently disagree with in a loving and intentional way? What would that look like? My guest this week is Cynthia Kane. Cynthia is a bestselling author and international communications coach, she's the CEO of the Kane Intentional Communication Institute, and she's also a certified meditation and mindfulness instructor. Join us this week as Cynthia shares tips and techniques to learn to become a more effective and intentional communicator – with yourself, your loved ones, and the world at large – in order to be the healthiest, most authentic version of yourself. You can connect with Cynthia in the following ways:Website - https://intentionalcommunicationinstitute.com/Instagram - @ cykane1Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064197697098YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-8tJU4FS6bWaeR8iA_e0fA Want more over 50 health & wellness goodness? Post By: Adam Turteltaub At the 2022 SCCE European Compliance & Ethics Institute Dr. Jan Sprafke, Head of Compliance, Europe and Latin America and Jad Mhanna, Regional Compliance Officer at Ericsson will be leading a session entitled Cultural Divide and Compliance. The session, and this podcast, will examine some of the challenges in implementing compliance programs in non-Western countries. There are three common issues that they find when implementing a program, especially in the anti-corruption area. First is the belief that it is a foreign law being imposed upon the local community. Second, there are different perceptions of what constitutes a bribe. Third, many believe that this is another Western way to mingle in local affairs. Some may also see anti-corruption laws as weaponized: designed to penalize economic competitiveness. When considering how to overcome these barriers they caution to remember that not all of the workforce shares the same perspective when it comes to compliance. Some don't really care and will do what they are asked to. Others will be smiling and saying “yes” but thinking about how to get around the rules to do what they want. The third is a small minority who will speak up and share their concerns. This group needs to be handled carefully. It is easy to see them as opposition when, in fact, they are not. So what should a compliance team do when faced with these challenges? Jan and Jad recommend avoiding the temptation to force compliance and instead take the time to understand the culture. In some places simply sharing the rules will be enough. In others it may mean taking the time to explain your goals and build a deeper understanding of why this initiative is important. Other advice they provide: Don't make this a headquarters initiative, partner locally Leave room for discretion and flexibility Understand what the local definition of corruption is and what is considered a bribe Run frequent risk assessments and compliance audits Help the local business team understand their risk exposure Finally, take the time to put yourself in the shoes of others. It will help you better understand your colleagues' thinking and help make compliance more of a two-way street.
