Pastor Kurt takes a deep dive into 1 Thessalonians 2:13-20 highlighting how it is when God's Word truly takes root, it produces affliction for the Word—a cross-shaped endurance even when our own people push back. And it stirs affection for the church—a longing to be face to face, where people themselves become our hope, joy, and crown before Jesus.

2026-1-11 - Matthew 6:1-18 - Hypocrite or Imitator? by Imperial Berean
This message takes us on a profound journey of transformation, beginning with the remarkable Christmas Truce of 1914—when enemies became neighbors through the simple act of singing 'Silent Night.' This historical moment sets the stage for understanding what it truly means to imitate God. Drawing from Ephesians 5, we're challenged to walk in the way of love, recognizing that God isn't just visiting our lives—He desires complete transformation. The sermon walks us through practical areas where we must 'put off' our old selves and 'put on' our new identity in Christ: our mindset must shift from worthless thoughts to a renewed spirit; our speech must move from lying and harmful talk to truthful and helpful words; our anger must be controlled rather than given free reign; our work must honor God through generosity instead of laziness and greed; and our attitudes must replace bitterness with kindness and forgiveness. The powerful truth here is that we were created in God's image—made for true righteousness and holiness. When we embrace this radical transformation, we don't just change ourselves; we become agents of peace in a broken world. If imitating God's love could pause a war for a day, imagine what could happen if we lived this way every single day.

Wahrhaftig.

Imitators and imposters. An impersonator is usually someone who pretends to be some one to bring joy to others An imposter, on the other hand, is someone who pretends to be someone else in order to deceive others. And there are plenty of both. When John says that we're children of God it's not a role we play. It's who we are!
Rejoince, fans of Bob Dylan. Here's a lengthy, fascinating conversation about Dylan's formative time in New York City in the early '60s. Billboard's Behind the Setlist is joined by Sean Wilentz, a Bob Dylan historian who wrote the 125-page liner notes in the 8-CD box set, Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series Volume 18: Through the Open Window, 1956-1963, out Oct. 31 through Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings. Wilentz is a professor of history at Princeton University who penned the 2010 book Dylan in America. His detailed liner notes give the historical background and content to the collection, which spans 139 tracks, including 48 never-before-released performances. The Bootleg Series Volume 18 captures Dylan as he transitioned from an imitator of other artists' works to an interpreter who added his own character and imprint to others' songs. Job 3-27, 32-37 - The narrative opening of Job concludes with 3 of Job's friends arriving to comfort him. At first, they employ a quiet and compassionate ministry of presence. However, in chapter 3, Job's speech kicks off a series of cyclical dialogues that reveal just how short-sighted, falsely rationalizing, and insensitive the friends' verbal attempts at comfort are. In chapters 16-17, Job gives them his assessment: they are "miserable comforters" who simply can't provide either the full answers or the existential comfort that Job needs in his agony. But in his longing, Job gestures at the possibility of One to come who will embody perfect truth and perfect compassionate presence--the true Comforter, Friend, Lord and Savior. The Art of Pure Cinema: Hitchcock and His Imitators (Oxford University Press) is the first book-length study to examine the historical foundations and stylistic mechanics of pure cinema. Author Bruce Isaacs, Associate Professor of Film Studies and Director of the Film Studies Program at the University of Sydney, explores the potential of a philosophical and artistic approach most explicitly demonstrated by Hitchcock in his later films, beginning with Hitchcock's contact with the European avant-garde film movement in the mid-1920s. Tracing the evolution of a philosophy of pure cinema across Hitchcock's most experimental works - Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho, The Birds, Marnie, and Frenzy - Isaacs rereads these works in a new and vital context. In addition to this historical account, the book presents the first examination of pure cinema as an integrated stylistics of mise en scène, montage, and sound design. The films of so-called Hitchcockian imitators like Mario Bava, Dario Argento, and Brian De Palma are also examined in light of a provocative claim: that the art of pure cinema is only fully realized after Hitchcock. On this week's episode of Critical Care Time, we revisit ARDS... sort of! We are joined again by Dr. Whittney Warren & for the first time by Denitza Blagev for a dynamic discussion on ARDS imitators: Things that looks like ARDS but aren't technically ARDS - or are they? It's a bit of a confusing landscape as you'll see, where the lines are blurred and things get a bit murky. We'll unpack diagnoses like EVALI, DAH, AIP and more in the context of ARDS and help you guys come up with a framework for the "ARDS" patient who doesn't seem to respond to the tried and true approaches we discussed earlier this year on our ARDS Epic-sode!. As always, give it a listen and let us know what you think! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
A British publication once offered a prize for the best definition of a friend. The winning definition read: "A friend is the one who comes in when the whole world has gone out." This is the kind of friend the apostle Paul was to the Thessalonians. They held a special place in his heart, that's for sure. Yet, there were some who questioned his loyalty to them. His response is a valuable lesson in friendship for us all. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1425/29
A promise we don't often claim is that those who seek to live godly lives will suffer persecution. This was true of the Thessalonian Christians, and yet they stood firm in persecution for the gospel's sake. But that raises the question, why does the gospel arouse such opposition? As we will hear on today's broadcast, the gospel ignores all human achievement. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1425/29
Imitators of God aren't striving to earn a place in the Kingdom—they're simply living from it. As children of light, we expose darkness not by condemning it, but by contrasting it with God's love and life in us. So walk in love, shine with light, and redeem every moment—you carry the Kingdom wherever you go.

Every life leaves a trail—what kind of example are you setting? In his message Mentors and Imitators from 1 Thessalonians 1:4-10, Pastor Fred challenges us to embrace the privilege and responsibility of spiritual mentoring by living a Christ-like example. This message also celebrates moms and encourages them to step boldly into their God-given influence.
