Happy Masters Friday! We hope you're enjoying the tournament, and thank you for spending some time with us when there are plenty of other exciting things happening in the world of golf. After a suspiciously L.A.B Golf DF3-shaped Odyssey putter appeared on Tour last month, we ask if copying in the golf equipment industry is a problem or just fair game. Elsewhere, Joe's been playing around with his putter (again) and has changed the shaft in his trusty blade for the first time. Should we all be thinking about our putter shafts in as much detail as driver and iron shafts? Ask The Pod this week wants to know how long ball manufacturers make old models of golf balls for its Tour pros. We then discuss whether something is going on with Rory's TP5 golf ball after he was caught on a hot mic during TGL last month... We are also thrilled to welcome Rick Shiels onto the show this week. Joe met golf's biggest YouTuber in Singapore last month to chat all things equipment and equipment testing. Has he always been an equipment geek? What are his favorite things to test? How would he make the game easier for amateurs through equipment? All of this and more is answered in our chat. “Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery” is something we've all heard since we were kids. Unfortunately, it is soooooo much more annoying than it's made out to be! This week, Elle explores the complicated relationship between the original and the copy in 4 scenarios. She also discusses her thoughts about entitlement to family restrooms, how it feels to be 80 episodes deep on the pod, and so much more.

This week, a Wisconsin school shooting provided a potential warning about what might come from the murder of UnitedHealthcare's CEO. That's not because the two shootings are directly connected but rather because the Wisconsin attack was influenced by the Columbine attack. And the CEO killing has many of the same hallmarks that could lead to it influencing future attacks as well. To examine how likely that is, we have former FBI agent and active shooter research pioneer Katherine Schweit back on the show. Schweit was part of the team that began tracking active shooter events in the wake of the Sandy Hook attack. She helped create the framework for responding to them for both law enforcement and civilians. She agreed there is reason to think the CEO killing could have a similar effect to that of Columbine. She said it's hard to know what might happen with future assassination attempts, but the messaging and viral nature of the CEO killing make copycats more likely. But she said she has seen progress in combatting active shooter incidents, with the number falling the past two years. And the same tactics could be used to reduce copycats as well. Special Guest: Katherine Schweit.

The offseason has well and truly begun and given the length of time before SKC plays another meaningful game, the feelings of malaise and cynicism regarding the future prospects of the club seem to be permeating the fan base. We spent a fair amount of time talking about the amount of work that Peter Vermes and Mike Burns have in front of them and the length of that timetable was predictably frustrating. We also briefly discussed the comments Vermes made in the press just prior to our recording last week, and part of that discussion certainly eluded to a fairly drawn out process before making and announcing decisions on what players will be leaving the club and who might be returning. His rationale for using the available time to make those decisions effectively was sound, but for a fanbase eager to visualize these significant changes he kept referring to, it was another ask for patience amongst a group that has very little left to give. Given the amount of available time for the team to make these decisions, it allows us to do some fantasy GM-ing of our own on the podcast. Having already discussed the 4 players out of contract, we will focus on those with option years available to be picked up next year, who we think is worthwhile to keep around, and who can make room for potential signings. Additionally, we will take a look at the known free agent class and discuss whether any of them makes sense for SKC to make a run at. Finally we will discuss how pervasive boring soccer has become in the world game(and MLS), the ridiculous Ballon d'Or discourse, a potential schedule change after the 26 world cup and take a look at whether the Current can make it up into 2nd place and gain homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.
In this episode, Kristin introduces us to a new corner of the Dark Academy, where we meet secretly in the library for a spooky midnight gathering. During this meeting, we conduct short reviews of horror movies that lead us into our macabre tale of the night. In this first installment, we review the Scream franchise and discuss chilling real-life copycat murders that followed. Inspired by the masked killer from the films, some individuals took the horror from the screen into real life, committing gruesome crimes. One such case is the tragic murder of Cassie Jo Stoddard, a 16-year-old girl who was simply looking after her aunt and uncle's house and pets for the weekend. Join us as we explore the dark blur between fiction and reality. Bible Reading: Ephesians 5:1-4; 1 Peter 1:13-16Alvaro angrily stomped into the room. Papá looked up from his computer. "Tell Miguel to quit copying me!" said Alvaro, crossing his arms over his chest. "He's always following me around, and he tries to do everything I do." As Papá closed his laptop, Miguel rushed into the living room. He marched over to his brother and promptly crossed his arms too. "See what I mean?" said Alvaro as Miguel stared up at him."Miguel," said Papá, "give Alvaro a bit of space." Then Papá looked at Alvaro. "Miguel copies you because he wants to be like you."Alvaro frowned. "I don't like copycats.""You don't? Well, the Bible says we should all be copycats." Papá picked up his Bible from the coffee table and opened it. "Here," he said. "Read Ephesians 5:1 out loud for us."Alvaro took the Bible and looked at the verse Papá indicated. "Therefore be imitators of God as dear children," he read."What do imitators do?" Papá asked. Alvaro shrugged. Miguel shrugged too. "They copy," said Papá. "We're supposed to copy God." Papá smiled at the boys. "Miguel loves you, Alvaro, and he shows it by wanting to do the same things you do. That's the same way we show our love for God. Jesus lived a perfect life of love and sacrifice when He came to earth to die for our sins. We can't copy Him perfectly, but through the power of the Holy Spirit, who is helping us grow to be more like Him, we can imitate Jesus by showing others His love in our actions and attitudes."Alvaro scratched his head. Giggling, Miguel did the same. Then Alvaro gave his brother a quick, playful punch on the shoulder. Miguel punched back. He squealed as Alvaro tackled him, and together they fell to the floor, laughing.Papá laughed too. "Okay, you two. Miguel, no more copying Alvaro right now. Leave him alone for a while. And let's all remember to be imitators of God by trusting Him to help us copy Jesus." "Okay," Miguel said."Okay," Alvaro said with a mischievous grin. "Okay!" Papá chimed in, and they all laughed."–Carol A. deCesareHow About You?Do you get frustrated when others copy you? Do younger kids try to act like you by repeating what you say or imitating what you do? Often they do this because they look up to you. As God's children, we need to copy Him.
