We had the pleasure of interviewing Skating Polly over Zoom video! Skating Polly share “I'm Sorry For Always Apologizing” – a deceptively joyous rock song that is accompanied by the official music video directed by Christian Papierniak. The multiple award-winning director, producer, and writer best known for his hit Indie feature film Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town brings the track to life with a humorous touch.“I'm Sorry For Always Apologizing” follows the raucous single “Hickey King” and is the second track to be taken from Skating Polly's new album Chaos County Line, which is set for release on June 23rd via El Camino Media. “Doctors don't think I'm sick / Just a self important prick” Kelli Mayo sings sweetly, sending up her past relationship mistakes with a cutting sense of self-judgement."This song has some of my favorite lyrics on the record" Kelli comments. "It was originally inspired by my very real habit of over apologizing, then the concept came to me to write it from a perspective of constantly hurting someone you're wildly in love with, which is a feeling I unfortunately know all too well. So, some of it is definitely hyperbole, but some of it is about my short-lived love affair with the bass player from Starcrawler. And the super huge prick I make myself out to be as the narrator is my big fear of how I must've come across to him and is also a furthering of many apologies I've given him on the matter..."Over the past decade, few artists have embodied the unbridled freedom of punk like Skating Polly. Formed when stepsisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse were just 9 and 14, the band have channeled their chameleonic musicality into a sound they call “Ugly Pop,” unruly and subversive and wildly melodic. With Kelli's brother Kurtis Mayo joining on drums in 2017, they've also built a close-knit community of fans while earning the admiration of their musical forebears, a feat that's found them collaborating with icons like X's Exene Cervenka and Beat Happening's Calvin Johnson, touring with Babes In Toyland, and starring as the subject of a feature-length documentary. On their forthcoming double album Chaos County Line, Skating Polly reach a whole new level of self-possession, ultimately sharing their most expansive and emotionally powerful work to date. The follow-up to 2018's The Make It All Show, Chaos County Line finds Skating Polly showcasing the depth of their growth, both as songwriters and personally. Whether they're opening up about matters internal (identity, disassociation, unhealthy coping mechanisms) or external (obsession, deception, gaslighting), Skating Polly imbue that outpouring with an unfettered emotional truth.Working again with Brad Wood, the acclaimed producer behind indie-rock classics like Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville, Chaos Country Line sees their songs journey from art-punk to noise-rock to piano-driven power-pop, matching that musical complexity with a sharply honed narrative voice that manifests in countless forms (ultravivid poetry, diary-like confession, fearlessly detailed storytelling, etc.).We want to hear from you! Once it was over, you could kinda tell Israel Adesanya had been thinking about this one for a while. He had his bow-and-arrow celebration all planned out. He did every dance he knew how to do. He had his postfight interview scripted in his head. It's been a long time coming for Adesanya, but he finally got one back from Alex Pereira on Saturday at UFC 287. Adesanya is once again your UFC middleweight champion, which is great but ... what now? Plus, Jorge Masvidal calls it a career (maybe) in a pretty weird way. And, holy shit, Max Holloway vs. Arnold Allen is next weekend. This episode is brought to you in part by NordVPN. Siris King talks about UFC 281. But he really gets into the subject of Elon Musk and Twitter. How the apps best days might be behind it. He also discusses the death of Anthony Rumble Johnson, and for the hotpass segment. The first short person wins for the week. (Vithoria Papel) Combat corner breaks boundaries and of course he gives love to the underrated Kaylani Lei.

On Below Deck, Eddie Lucas promoted Izzy Wouters to Lead Deckhand, prompting a diverse reaction from her fellow teammates while Elizabeth Frankini and James Hough continued their flirtation by sneaking a cannoli break. On BravoTV.com’s exclusive Below Deck Season 8 After Show, Izzy said Rob Phillips’ reaction to her new position was “immature” and “childish.” Eddie admitted that Elizabeth and James’ cannoli break “wasn’t fair” to Francesca Rubi who was “picking up the slack” from Elizabeth all season, while Chef Rachel Hargrove admitted the two did like to canoodle “a little too much” on charter. Plus, the seminal Riot Grrrl soundtrack kicks ass. On our Lunchtime Poll, we tell tales of fraught journeys from our personal pasts.Paid in Puke returns with Series 4 in Fall 2020. In the meantime, keep your heads and masks up!

This week the guys go back to the well on one of their favorite topics and get some new perspective from Alex Thieme! Also, David is desperate to trade Uncle Drew for a Like Mike 3, Jacob does his best to get his feelings about Izzy Gets the F*** Across Town across, and Alex shares his roundabout connection to fame and Leonardo DiCaprio.
We’re good, we’re calm, we deal with people on the road in a civilized manner. Reviews this week include ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ (Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall, Jeff Goldblum), the heart wrenching documentary ‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor’ (Fred Rogers, Yo-Yo Ma) and indie comedy ‘Izzy Gets the F*** Across Town’ (Mackenzie Davis, Haley Joel Osment, Laakeith Stanfield, Carrie Coon). We meet a Whitesnake fanatic, get hit on by inappropriate people, and lament a world so far removed from Mr. Rogers’. And if you don’t stay for any of that, at least stay for the old rumpy pumpy.
Will Izzy get the f*ck across via Uber
Izzy is the textbook definition of a hot mess. She wakes up hungover from a one-night stand, puts on her stained clothes from the night before and plans to start yet another aimless day. That is, until she finds out that her ex is getting ready to celebrate his engagement to her former best friend. Izzy has to make it to the other side of town to break them up, and nothing will stand in her way. Further proving that she’s one of the most promising new actresses working today, Mackenzie Davis plays Izzy with a manic energy that is utterly electrifying. Featuring a killer supporting cast made up of Carrie Coon, Haley Joel Osment, and Alia Shawkat, Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town is a chaos-filled ride through Los Angeles, one that introduces a bold new voice in indie cinema. Director and writer Christian Papierniak talks about the making of his kinetic, off-kilter vehicle for the amazing MacKenzie Davis and working with a brilliant cast of supporting performers. You can tell it's really summer time at the movies when there's a dinosaur morvie opening up across the country. That's right "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom." We brought Mike Sargent along to tell us whether it's a worthy sequel to the first Jurassic World movie. There's also "The King," which is a new documentary about Elvis Presley. It's an interesting take on The King. And there's the quirky western "Damsel" starring Robert Pattinson. What's a big star like him doing in a strange little film like this. Plus we discuss "Izzy Gets the F-ck Across Town." That's the real title. Then Bill McCuddy tells us about HBO's documentary "Not Such a Bad Guy: A Conversation with Dabney Coleman" which is a fascinating look at once of America's finest character actors. When you're done soaking up free air-conditioning at your local movie theater keep cool with us!
Hold onto your butts, we've got a big, dumb dinosaur movie to talk about. Follow @datmpodcast on Twitter.
