Dawgman.com's Jack McCauley was joined this week by former UW Hoopers Noah Dickerson and Jason Crandall to offer up their thoughts on how Washington has attacked the offseason and how successful Danny Sprinkle has been to date in terms of upgrading talent and balance between the front court and back court. It has been a while since the end of the season, and we'll talk about portal additions that've been made and also some potential portal targets in a little bit, but first there's some talk about last season, including their overall thoughts and what went wrong. The guys then transition into the offseason and the team addressing needs via the transfer portal window, which opened up roughly three weeks ago. They talk about some of the additions, including Lathan Sommerville from Rutgers, Quimari Peterson from East Tennessee State, Hannes Steinbach, a forward from Germany, and then the return of shooting guard/wing Wesley Yates. After a quick break the guys then go into remaining needs, and the targets that have been publicly talked about so far, including Darrion Williams from Texas Tech, Cedric Coward from Washington State, Jacob Dar from Rice, and Bradley Ezewiro from UAB. Then they ponder the question: If you were Danny Sprinkle, would you take another big? And then to wrap up this 50-minute portal update pod, the guys offer up their Way Too Early starting five for the 2025-26 season. NOTE: Jack's connection ended up dropping out a couple of times over the course of recording the podcast. We've tried to knit together things to make the conversation run as smoothly as possible, but we apologize for the dropouts and any possible confusion. The guys from Dawgman.com - Jack McCauley and former UW Basketball players Noah Dickerson and Jason Crandall - are back with another hoops podcast. It's been a minute since they last spoke together, and in that time Washington has gone 3-2, including road wins over Minnesota and Penn State. The guys talked about the turnaround and specific things they saw during the last five-game stretch they hadn't seen before up to that point. A big part of the turnaround has been the inclusion of Franck Kepnang in the lineup and the emergence of Mekhi Mason, as well as Great Osobor continuing to do Great Osobor things. What did Noah think of Great's unique double-double at Penn State, as well as threatening to become Washington's first-ever player to tally a triple-double? And not to be outdone, Jason talks about his near quadruple-double in high school. After a quick break, the guys come back and talk about tomorrow night's game against Rutgers, their true freshmen pheoms, how much of a win over the Scarlet Knights is needed in order for UW to secure a Big Ten Tournament berth, and also what they expect to see when the Huskies hit the road again for games at Iowa and Wisconsin. Both Noah and Jason had experience at Washington playing with really talented freshmen, and Noah also talked about the one time he worked out with current Rutgers true frosh Ace Bailey, who is being touted as a potential number-one pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. The Dawgman Hoops Pod is back! Jack McCauley is joined by former UW players Noah Dickerson and Jason Crandall to offer up their current thoughts on UW Hoops, why the games went like they did, and what the team needs to do to enjoy some success moving forward. In the first segment, the guys recap the last three games - Purdue, at Oregon, and UCLA. They talked about the importance of getting Franck Kepnang back for the UCLA game, how the veteran guards need to step up, and how well Great Osobor has been playing of late. After a quick break, the guys rip right into the second half of the show. They talk about the next three games for UW: at Minnesota and hosting Nebraska and Northwestern, as well as what it's going to take to try to win enough games to make the Big Ten Tournament. With 18 Big Ten teams, only 15 make the tournament. Right now the Huskies are in last place. They also offer their opinions on who has stood out on the team through the first half of Big Ten play, and who needs to have a big end of season if the Huskies hold any hopes of a postseason run. And Noah has one final word for all recent UW and D1 athletes and what they can do to claim their due compensation from the NCAA per the House settlement. The Hoops pod is back! Jack McCauley is joined by former UW players Noah Dickerson and Jason Crandall to recap their thoughts on the Huskies recent road swing through Michigan State and Michigan, otherwise known as the 'Welcome to the Big Ten' road trip. Starting with the 88-54 loss to Michigan State, the guys talk about the slow start, why it happened, and is it something UW fans might expect to see more of throughout the season? The guys also offered up insight on what it's like to get hit in the mouth like UW did last Thursday night, lose big, and what the next day is like at practice. And especially on the road, what was that like? Then they talked about the 16-point loss at Sunday Michigan and whether that's more in line with what UW fans should see from the Huskies moving forward, especially teams that have multiple big men. That talk turned into the play of Great Osobor, who tied a season-high with 23 points. He also showed up with 11 rebounds. How has his progress been, and can UW win games when he's not at 100 percent? After a quick break, the guys move forward and look to the next three games on this current gauntlet of playing six-straight ranked teams. Washington hosts Purdue Wednesday night, travel to Oregon to play the Ducks on Tuesday the 21st, and then they come back to Seattle to host UCLA three days later. With those three games all in the Pacific Northwest, and two at home - does that help shift the energy? And can the Huskies pull off an upset in one of the next three games? Noah and Jason also took some time to answer a couple of fan-submitted questions before wrapping up this podcast. When did they know that they had a team capable of making the NCAA Tournament? And what would it have been like if Dejounte Murray and Marquese Chriss had come back after their freshman seasons instead of turning pro? The Hoops guys are back! Jack McCauley is once again joined by former Huskies Noah Dickerson and Jason Crandall to get their takes on Washington's latest games and also what they expect to see from the next stretch of games. What has stood out over the last few weeks? How much of a stain was that loss to Seattle University, or was it exactly what the team needed at the time? The guys also talk about the big Maryland win and why is having an early conference home win like that so important, especially before a brutal schedule? And even though it was a loss, how did the guys feel about the Illinois game? After a quick break to pay a couple of bills, Jack comes back with Noah and Jason to talk about the upcoming games for the rest of the month, arguably the greatest gauntlet of games in a row Washington has ever faced in the history of the program. What game(s) scares the guys the most? And what game (if any) is the most winnable? The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Luke Mounger - got together late this holiday season, but just in time to give UW fans the inside scoop on this New Years Eve matchup between Louisville and Washington, the first time the two teams have ever met. But before they get into the various matchups they expect to see on both sides of the ball, the guys give their thoughts on the crazy transfer portal, the players the Huskies have gotten commitments from and also players that have left for other schools. Then the talk dives straight into the matchup of Louisville's offense, led by quarterback Harrison Bailey, against Washington's defense. And then they turn the tables and look at Washington offense, led by quarterback Demond Williams, and how the Huskies expect to do against Louisville's defense. After a quick break, it's time for Jack and Luke to give their Bets to Bark - players they expect to see do well on Tuesday - and then they give their Sun Bowl picks, as well as some bonus picks on the playoff games that also start on Tuesday with Penn State and Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. And to finish off the preview pod, the guys offer up their confidence levels, meaning how strongly are they convinced of a Washington win over Louisville? The Guys from the Husky Hoops Pod on DawgmanRadio, Jack McCauley, Noah Dickerson, and Jason Crandall are back with another episode, and this time there's a ton of things to talk about ahead of Washington's first ever B1G home game versus USC. To start, they talk about the Huskies currently having the No. 1 recruiting class in the Big Ten for 2025, having signed four players - JJ Mandaquit, Courtland Muldrew, Niko Bundalo, and Mady Traore. Noah adds an anecdote about his own recruitment and how he visited Washington and immediately committed to another school! Next, the guys recap the Acrisure Invitational Championship, where Washington beat Colorado State on Thanksgiving and then Santa Clara the following day to bring the hardware home to Montlake. They talked about the things they saw that went well, what needs improvement, and overall how hopeful they are of success from this group of Hoop Dawgs moving forward. After a quick break the guys talk about Washington first-ever Big Ten road game at UCLA, where they lost by 11. What did they see from that game? And what is it going to take in order for the Huskies to break through? The guys also talk about certain key themes to the season so far that have started to forge the identity of the team, like the lack of offense, how the offense revolves around Great Osobor, free throw shooting (Noah has a revelation on this topic!), and more. UW Head Coach Danny Sprinkle has comped Noah and Great, so Noah offers his thoughts (Jason too) on Great's game and where improvement is going to come over the course of the year. The Huskies are now back in Seattle after the UCLA game and they next play USC Saturday afternoon. What about the Trojans? They react to St. Mary's holding the Trojans to 36 points and they just lost to Oregon in LA too. What are the guys expecting from Saturday's game, and more specifically how can the Huskies add to the Trojans' woes and at the same time maintain their 100 percent home winning record? Jason offers up some insight into a factor you might not think about when it comes to having a home-court advantage. And both Noah and Jason have strong connections to former UW Coaches Will Conroy and Quincy Pondexter, who are both now at USC. Are they having mixed emotions about seeing the former Dawgs on the other side of the court? Here's a hint; for guys outside the area, it didn't matter as much, but for the local guys? It's everything. Jack jumps ahead and asks Noah and Jason about the upcoming Washington State game, one where the Huskies will be hosting former UW player Nate Calmese. And how do they think Sprinkle will deal with his first game against WSU as Washington's head coach? Sprinkle was born in Pullman! To wrap up this most recent hoops pod, Jack asks Noah and Jason; what aspects need to improve in these next handful of games before Big Ten play ramps up in earnest in January? Dawgman.com's Jack McCauley and Luke Mounger get into the holiday spirit this week with their Thanksgiving game week preview, but it's not the Apple Cup! Now that both Oregon and Washington are in the Big Ten and Washington State is in the college football wilderness, it's time to turn the page and look at the rivalry between UO and UW as the true big Pacific Northwest rivalry game. But before they go into the meat of the game against the No. 1 Ducks, the guys recap the UCLA win at Husky Stadium that got the Huskies to bowl eligibility. And that chat folds right into one of the big conversations for Washington fans this week; should Demond Williams start at quarterback instead of Will Rogers? The conversation then merges into a breakdown of Washington's defense and what they can try and do to stop a potent Oregon attack, and then the tables are flipped. What can Washington's offense do against Oregon's stout defense, especially their pass rush? After a break, the guys go into the players they expect to shine in their Bet to Bark segment, and then go into their Betting B1G talk where they look at other conference games and compare their season-long predictions. And then to finish up they go into their Confidence Intervals, which measures just how good they are feeling about a Washington win in Eugene. The Husky Hoops Guys, Jack McCauley, Noah Dickerson, and Jason Crandall are back with their third installment of the Hoops Pod. They begin by discussing the loss against Nevada, especially about if fans need to value DJ Davis and if folks should expect another performance from Great Osobor like we saw against the Wolf Pack this season. The guys then talk about the upcoming games leading into the Thanksgiving tournament down in Palm Springs, specifically what the Huskies need to do in these two games to give them a good shot to win the tournament in the Desert. After that, Noah discusses how he gets ready for games, what his pregame routine looks like, and some potential superstitions he had while suiting up for the purple and gold. The guys end the pod by talking about specific guys that need to step up this season for Coach Sprinkle and really start to make an impact as a tougher schedule looms in the distance. The Guys from the Dawgman Husky Hoops Pod, Jack McCauley, Noah Dickerson, and Jason Crandall, are back with another episode before The Danny Sprinkle era on Montlake tips off. Jack leads things off by getting a pulse from Jason and Noah on how the scrimmage vs Western Oregon and went and if there are any inclinations that what was shown last Tuesday, we can see throughout the season. After talking about the scrimmage, especially how they thought guys like Zoom Diallo, DJ Davis, and Great Osobor played, they transitioned to talking about a UC Davis team who's had back to back 20 win seasons. Noah and Jason talk about if there's any first game jitters for guys. Then Jack steers the conversation towards the Nevada game this weekend and why this is not only a critical matchup for the Huskies early on, but could look great come end of the season. After diving into their roster, Noah tells some stories on why it's tough to play at elevation as well as the importance of getting off to a good start on a road trip. Jason and Noah also share some of their memories as roommates together on the team. The guys then wrap up the pod with some "x" factors on who they think needs to have a good week in order for Washington to start 2-0 this season. The Dawgman interns - Jack McCauley and Luke Mounger - are back to dissect Washington's weekend opponent, and this week it's the Indiana Hoosiers. But before they take a deep dive into everything IU Football, they also provide a quick update into their College Football '25 dynasty mode endeavors. After a bye week, UW goes back on the road to square off against the No. 13 Indiana Hoosiers, but the Hoosiers will be without starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke. How do the guys see Rourke's absence affect the game? What can UW do to try and slow down backup QB Tayven Jackson? The bye week also had to have helped get some Huskies back for this game, including EDGE Zach Durfee. Both Jack and Luke break down the game in general and offer their thoughts on what UW can try and do on both sides of the ball to help slow the Hoosiers down. After a quick break, the guys offer up their Bets to Bark - the UW players they expect will impact the game the most - as well as their Betting B1G segment. And then to wrap up the game preview, Jack and Luke offer up their Confidence Intervals. It's how strongly they believe in a UW win. Needless to say, this week's confidence intervals aren't quite at the same level as they have been most of the year. Now that the Washington Huskies have completed their 'Montlake Madness', it's time to start ramping up the good vibes for basketball. The men's exhibition game is on October 29 against Western Oregon and the women start their season against cross-town rival Seattle U on November 4. So Dawgman's Jack McCauley pulled in two former UW players - Noah Dickerson and Jason Crandall - to get their thoughts on the transition from Mike Hopkins to Danny Sprinkle, as well as the move to the Big Ten. They played under Hopkins and have also been able to meet Sprinkle and watch his team in action too over the summer. To start, what should UW fans expect in that change from Hop to Sprink? Both Noah and Jason offer specific thoughts on the transition, including some basic changes they expect to see in the first-year head coach. And both also talk about Sprinkle's outreach to the alums to get them even more involved with the program, and Noah offers his insight into how he expects the new coach to build his culture. Getting Noah's perspective on this team is a great one, because Spinkle has said that Dickerson is a perfect comp for current Husky Great Osobor. Before the break, Jack asks Noah and Jason a couple of other questions. First, with so many new faces, how quickly can the players gel? And besides Great, who will the Huskies rely on to help get them back to the NCAA Tournament? After paying some bills, the guys get right back at it with plenty of more preview material, starting with their takes on what they think the mentality of the team is going to be. Needless to say, the notion of toughness is talked about, and Noah definitely backs up the comparison to Great Osobor as an 'undersized big'. (Hint: Noah hated being called a center) Jack asks the guys for their opinions on who else they think could be 'x' factors for success, and Noah has one name that should get fans intrigued. Talk then turns to the idea of playing in a new conference, the Big Ten, and all that entails, including travel. Noah offers his specific perspective as a big man having to go cross-country to play games. It's not easy. But that works both ways too, as UW can use that to their advantage when they're hosting teams from multiple time zones away. To finish out the preview, Noah and Jason talk about what they think success will look like for Danny Sprinkle in his first season on Montlake, and Jack asks them for any hot takes they have for the season ahead. The interns from Dawgman.com - Luke Mounger and Jack McCauley - are back this week to quickly lick some fresh wounds after Washington's 21-18 loss at Rutgers last Friday night, but then flush that game from the system and focus on UW's opponent this weekend, the Michigan Wolverines. And it's just as painful for the guys to call Michigan the National Champions, as they sounded defeated the Huskies back in January 34-13 to win the biggest prize in college football. But just like this Washington team isn't anything like the team that lost to Michigan almost 9 months ago, this Wolverines team barely resembles the team that won that game over UW in January. They were able to retain more players from that game than UW, but they lost more players to the NFL Draft than Washington, and both teams both lost their head coaches. The Wolverines did keep a couple key players on each side of the ball, and the guys start out analyzing the matchup of Michigan's run game versus Washington's run defense. The loss of Jayvon Parker looms large along the UW front, but UM has become worryingly one-dimensional on offense if you are a fan of theirs. Can Washington really force Alex Orji into a situation where he has to win the game? And how does he compare with other quarterbacks UW has faced that are more lethal as a run threat compared to what they can do via the air? And what are the other keys to a successful evening for the UW defense? And how big will the partisan fanbase at The Greatest Setting be when trying to take the Wolverines out of their game in their first road trip of the season? Turning the tables, Luke and Jack then look at Washington's multiple offense versus a stout Michigan defense. Given how the Huskies have lost a couple of rough games to things like unforced errors, penalties, and red zone inefficiency, they hit on the things UW can't do against a disciplined program like UM. But what can they do to have success? The guys offer up some things they think UW could do in order to loosen things up and put Michigan on their heels, as well as some Wolverines to avoid when UW has the ball. And finally, do they think UW can use the switching of Will Rogers and Demond Williams to their advantage? Have they gotten to the point where a player like Williams could have some breakout moments? And Luke breaks out a stat derived from one of Michigan's recent opponents that might provide some hope when looking at UW's run game. After a quick break, the guys then present their Bets to Bark, as well as their Betting B1G segment, which includes some interesting takes on if the guys are looking to take the first half team total for Michigan-Washington, as well as the game team total. And the final segment is their confidence interval, which is basically how confident they are of their game prediction? Are they feeling good about their picks? Or is there a little bit of trepidation that has crept in after the Rutgers loss? The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Luke Mounger - get going early this week because Washington's game is on Friday. That's right; the Washington Huskies go across the country to play their first-ever Big Ten Conference road game at Rutgers. Game time is 5 pm Pacific Time and is on FOX. But first, the guys go back and give their thoughts on what they saw in Washington's first B1G Conference win, 24-5 over Northwestern at Husky Stadium. And then they jump right into Washington's next opponent, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. There's plenty of connections between the two teams; Jedd Fisch is from New Jersey (Livingston, just northwest from Newark), and defensive coordinator Steve Belichick played at Rutgers under current Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano. The guys previewed the Rutgers offense first, followed by their defense. How do they see the Huskies attacking their opponent on both sides of the ball? After a quick break, Jack and Luke go into their Bets to Bark and Betting B1G. In an attempt to replicate Mike Blowers' famous Matt Tuiasosopo home run prediction against Toronto 15 years to the day when the Huskies play Rutgers this week. And it's a doozy! And before they wrap up their game preview, it's the now-famous confidence interval segment. How confident are Jack and Luke of a Washington win in their first true road game of the 2024 season? It was a rough weekend, but the Dawgman interns - Jack McCauley and Luke Mounger - have tried their best to live the 24 Hour Rule and move on to the Washington Huskies' next opponent, the Northwestern Wildcats. But they had to take a minute first to exorcise some demons via analysis after Washington State's 24-19 Apple Cup win over the Huskies at Lumen Field. Were there any positives the guys saw that might carry over for the rest of the season? Then they look ahead to what they expect to see from the Wildcats, who are also 2-1, with a loss to Duke sandwiched between wins over Miami (OH) and Eastern Illinois. After a quick break to pay some bills, it's their Bets to Bark during the game, followed by the 'Betting B1G' segment where they take a look up and down the conference slate and offer their thoughts on who might show up in the win column this weekend. It sounds like last week's Betting B1G segment should have been called Missing B1G, but hopefully they'll rectify that this weekend with some better calls. And finally they wrap things up with their confidence interval. How confident are they in a Washington win Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium? The interns from Dawgman.com - Jack McCauley and Luke Mounger - are back with their game preview podcast, and this week it's a big one. It's Washington's third opponent of the season, the Washington State Cougars! Wait, what? How is the 116th Apple Cup being played this weekend, the second weekend in September? Well, that's what the guys talk about right from the jump, including fan sentiment on both sides of the in-state rivalry. After they do that, they go deeper into what they expect to see from Washington State's offense, especially quarterback John Mateer and his running ability. Then they provide the same treatment for the other side of the ball. Next, the guys come back with their Bets to Bark, and right before they finish out the game preview podcast, they also give their takes on some of the other games going on during this week one of the college football season with their weekend Big Bets, as well as their confidence intervals. What's a confidence interval? It's how sure are they of a Washington win! This one is worth a listen. Practice moved into the Dempsey Indoor Facility this week as the team continues to prepare for 'Dawgs After Dark'. Former UW players expected to be there for 'Dawgs After Dark' Friday night: Marcus Peters, Vita Vea, Shaq Thompson, Danny Shelton, Jake Locker, and more are expected to be announced during the week. Now that Washington is into its final week of spring football, there's a feeling the team is using this week like a game week. So starting this Monday, the Huskies are practicing in shells and shorts and practice was moved into the Dempsey Indoor Facility. After a Saturday scrimmage, that meant a lot of install and prep work for the Huskies, but not a ton to talk about for the media. So what that meant today was that the guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Scott Eklund, and Jack McCauley - didn't have a ton to talk about in terms of team periods and competition. But that didn't stop the guys from talking about a few of the most memorable plays during Monday's practice, as well as a few memorable appearances from some VIPs and recruits. Kim also talked a bit about the two pieces of hoops news that came out Monday; Franck Kepnang's return and also the signing of former UC Irvine and Butler guard D.J. Davis. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters - were joined by former intern Jack McCauley and current intern Harlan Grady to form a quorum and put their thoughts down after a spirited Day 11 of spring football inside the Dempsey Indoor Facility. For the most part, the talk in the first half was about the offensive standouts, especially with there being some live football the coaches sprinkled in during practice to keep things interesting. Kim's player of the day was Rashid Williams, and the redshirt freshman from the Bay Area certainly made some strong plays. In fact, the whole receiving corps looked rock solid going up against some really good defensive backs, and that competition was something to watch all day long. The talk also turned to the running backs, as the media was able to talk to new RB Coach Scottie Graham, as well as running backs Cameron Davis and Jonah Coleman. The guys talked about them, as well as true freshman Adam Mohammed, who has become one of the real spring surprises. After a quick break, there was some hoops news Kim wanted to get to, as Danny Sprinkle picked up his second guard from the portal and third overall ahead of the 2024-25 season in former UC-Irvine and Butler guard D.J. Davis. The guys talk about what Davis should bring to the mix and Kim hints at the next steps for Sprinkle and company as they continue to remake the roster. The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - finish out their season position preview series by tackling the secondary. They start out with the newest additions - Oklahoma State transfer CB Jabbar Muhammad and juco cornerback Thaddeus Dixon - and how they slot in to the competition that has been brewing since the end of the 2022 season. Muhammad and Dixon are competing with existing cornerbacks Elijah Jackson, Jaivion Green, and Davon Banks. Who is standing out? Who do Jack and Luke think will end up standing out from the crowd? The guys also take a quick look at the future depth at corner, with a nod to Darren Barkins, Caleb Presley, Leroy Bryant, and Curley Reed. And Jack thinks one of that group might make an early jump in 2023 if needed. Before they move to the safeties, Jack and Luke take a gander at the Husky position, a nickel-style back that the UW defensive coaches like as a hybrid between a safety and a linebacker. Mishael Powell, Tristan Dunn, and Kamren Fabiculanan are the main players talked about here. Moving to safety, the first names on the team sheet are Asa Turner and Dominique Hampton, and Jack and Luke break down what they think those two players need to do this fall in order to take that next step in their development. They also break down the safety depth behind the veterans - Makell Esteen and Vincent Nunley - as well as the idea that both Fabiculanan and Dunn can help out at both safety and Husky when needed. Jack and Luke finish out this preview pod by taking a look at the secondary as a complete group between the three positions and their role within the defense as a whole. The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - roll through the rest of their position group previews by combining two more rooms into one podcast. After breaking down Washington's defensive line group, the interns got after it with the EDGE and Inside Linebacker rooms. To start, they analyze the UW EDGE players, starting with their stars - Bralen Trice and Zion Tupuola-Fetui - as well as Sekai Asoau-Afoa, Maurice Heims, Zach Durfee, Lance Holtzclaw, Anthony James, and Jacob Lane, as well as veteran Voi Tunuufi, who made the move from the defensive line room. Who will the Huskies lean on after Brice and ZTF? And how will their skill sets complement each other? And how will the walk-ons, starting with Milton Hopkins, make their presence known? After a quick break the guys then move inside to talk about the players responsible for handling the next level of the defense - the inside linebackers. This group has seen a bit of a personnel shift, as Cam Bright, Kristopher Moll, Demario King, Daniel Heimuli, and a handful of walk-ons are all gone; Ralen Goforth was brought in from USC, as well as true freshmen Deven Bryant, Jordan Whitney, and a couple of new walk-ons to help fill in the gaps. So is it a matter of addition by subtraction? Will having Edefuan Ulofoshio from the beginning of the year show itself in a way it couldn't last season? And will Alphonzo Tuputala continue to develop on the field considering all the physical changes he's made in the weight room? And will a player like Goforth reach his potential in a new environment after a mixed career with the Trojans? And will a stalwart like Carson Bruener be the perfect foil for Goforth? Will they be the pair behind Ulofoshio and Tuputala the Huskies can count on for quality depth that they couldn't in 2022? Jack and Luke finish out this preview pod by taking a look at the other scholarship players that make up the linebackers room, as well as the quality walk-ons like Drew Fowler, Austin Harnetiaux, and others. The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - begin to roll through the rest of their position group previews by hitting the first of three podcasts highlighting the defensive side of the ball. Today, they're talking about the defensive line, and specifically the two interior linemen set in UW's standard nickel base scheme. They begin their analysis with a look at Washington's expected DL starters, Tuli Letuligasenoa and Ulumoo Ale, and then move to their expected backups, Faatui Tuitele and Jacob Bandes. To finish up the podcast, the guys talk about expectations - especially now that everyone returns in a system making a jump from year one to year two. Do they think the Washington defensive line could end up being one of the best in the conference? And could the Huskies get some valuable play from the Michigan twins, Armon and Jayvon Parker to help supplement the experienced players in the two-deeps? The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - roll through the rest of their offensive position group previews by combining three rooms into one podcast. First they start with the quarterbacks and obviously spend a bunch of time talking about Heisman Trophy candidate Michael Penix Jr. After a quick break they work their way into the tight ends room, where they focus their time by breaking down what they expect to see from Devin Culp, Jack Westover, Quentin Moore, Ryan Otton, and Josh Cuevas. After another quick break, Jack and Luke finish the podcast off talking about the offensive line room. Going from left tackle to right tackle, they give their thoughts on each specific position with a focus first on the expected starters: Troy Fautanu, Julius Buelow, Matteo Mele, Nate Kalepo, and Roger Rosengarten. NOTE: This podcast was recorded before the official news of Gaard Memmelaar's season-ending injury. The Dawgman interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - are back with their own spin on how the Washington Huskies will do in 2023, and they are going to break down a number of the position groups. Today they break down the receivers room, arguably the most talented single room in the entire Pac-12. But before they talk about the players in the room, they offer their postscript to those who have left; Lonyatta Alexander, Jabez Tinae, and Taj Davis. But with Denzel Boston and Germie Bernard on the 'come up' (as the kids would say), the losses should be mitigated as addition through subtraction. Then Jack and Luke break down the three freshmen that are currently going through fall camp - Keith Reynolds, Taeshaun Lyons, and Rashid Williams - and give their thoughts on whether they'll redshirt or not, and if there is one player that won't be redshirting, who would it be? And before they take a quick commercial break, Jack and Luke then go back to the two main takers in the room - Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan. After the break, Luke gives credit to Washington's Recivers Coach JaMarcus Shephard when it comes to managing the personalities in the room, as well as the high level of expectations and accountability. Going back to the players in the room, Jack and Luke talk about Giles Jackson and Ja'Lynn Polk and how they can add their individual talents to the benefit of the whole. The guys' final thoughts include their expectations for the room in terms of production for the 2023 season with a revamped roster and the improvement from year one to year two in Shephard's room and Ryan Grubb's offense. The Dawgman interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - are back with their own spin on how the Washington Huskies will do in 2023, and they are going to break down a number of the position groups. Today they tackle the running backs room, one that is losing a lot of production with Wayne Taulapapa's graduation, but they also have some veterans returning with Cameron Davis and Richard Newton, as well as a number of transfers. Will Nixon moved last year from Nebraska, and UW picked up two more transfers in Daniyel Ngata from Arizona State and Dillon Johnson from Mississippi State. Jack and Luke start with the recent transfers and what they should bring to the mix, and then work their way toward the backs already on the roster. Then the guys talk about some of the other newer additions, starting with true freshman Tybo Rogers. Without knowing the specifics of Rogers' situation and why he isn't practicing right now with the Huskies, both Jack and Luke proceed like he will be available for UW once the season starts. Will he play more than four games in 2023? How will the coaches like to use him? And what about sophomore Sam Adams? After giving their initial thoughts on the players they expect to play this fall, they go more in-depth on how they think the room as a whole will be used. Will the coaches try and find a 1000-yard rusher? Will they go more by committee? Will they be transparent when looking to spring their running backs in the passing game? And how much will pass protection factor into playing time? To finish up the podcast, Jack and Luke create their own pecking order and expectations for this year compared to last season. The current intern for Dawgman.com, Josh Wodka, joined up with former interns Luke Mounger and Jack McCauley to throw out a host of opinions on how the new-look UW offense and defense will perform in 2022. This podcast was recorded a day before Michael Penix was named the starter, but the interns go right into the quarterback position and whether or not the Huskies starting signal-caller will throw for 3000 yards. Next, they delve into the running back stats. Under Chris Petersen, Washington fans were used to seeing a 1000-yard rusher when Myles Gaskin was the first back in Pac-12 history to run for over a thousand yards in four-straight seasons. And overall, the Huskies have had a 1000-yard rusher 10 out of the last 13 seasons, but not the last two years. Will UW have a 1000-yard rusher in 2022? And will it be just 1-2 backs, or will it be more like the committee approach the Huskies used last season? Continuing, the interns ponder who will lead the team in receptions? Will it be Rome Odunze? Jalen McMillan? Ja'Lynn Polk? Or will it be Giles Jackson? How about Taj Davis or Lonyatta Alexander as dark horse picks? Or will the interns think out of the box and go with a tight end like Devin Culp, Jack Westover, or Quentin Moore? And when it comes to the receivers, who will lead the room in yardage? Here's a hint; there's not a consensus! You'll have to listen to see who disagrees with the group. The guys dig right back into the offensive stats with a rapid fire question: which player will lead the team in receiving touchdowns? This is another stat where the guys definitely have some different thoughts. After a quick break, Luke tests the other interns' knowledge with a couple of questions about sack masters as they move to the defensive side of the ball. Will the Huskies have a player with 10-plus sacks in 2022? Moving to the next level on the defense, who will lead the team in tackles? The interns, not surprisingly, look to the linebackers to dominate this category, but with a twist! Next is the secondary. Who will lead the team in interceptions? Is it a cornerback like Jordan Perryman or Mishael Powell? Or will it be a safety like Alex Cook or Asa Turner? Or what about the guy that has been racking up thefts all fall camp in Davon Banks? After another quick break, the guys go back to some bigger picture team projections. Where in the Pac-12 will the Huskies land when it comes to scoring offense? How about scoring defense? Will they continue to stay near or at the top of scoring defense even with a new staff? And finally, the guys talk about total wins with an over/under call. Right now the oddsmakers have Washington over/under number at 7.5 wins for the season. Are the interns unanimous when predicting UW's win-loss record? Even though they aren't covering camp with us anymore, the Dawgman Interns Emeriti are still connected to their alma mater and continue to pay attention to Washington Football. Luke Mounger and Jack McCauley got together via the magic of the internet this past weekend to provide their insight as the Huskies finish up the first four practices of fall camp. To start, they talk about what they're going to be looking forward to, new head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff instilling a new culture at UW, and new Strength and Conditioning Coach Ron McKeefery getting the team ready for a big season ahead. Then they dig into three specific position battles, going with spots that may not be as highly covered as the one at quarterback. They start with the running backs, and then after a quick break, Luke and Jack move to the defensive side of the ball with a look at the inside linebackers, focusing on new transfers Cam Bright and Kris Moll, as well as Alphonzo Tuputala, Daniel Heimuli, Carson Bruener, and Demario King. Talking about one more position battle, Luke and Jack talk offensive line, specifically the positions outside of left tackle. Jaxson Kirkland, provided he remains healthy, will be Washington's left tackle, but are there any other positions that are on lock? Jack has a couple of more players he feels should be 'locks' for Scott Huff's offensive line heading into the season. After one last break, the guys each pick one player on each side of the ball that they are excited to pay attention to. Jack picks Bralen Trice on defense and Luke picks Ulumoo Ale as his player on defense to watch. On offense it's Giles Jackson for Jack and for Luke it's Quentin Moore. Next, they each pick newcomers they are excited to watch. For Jack, it's former UC Davis cornerback Jordan Perryman. For Luke, it's freshman EDGE player Lance Holtzclaw. Jack also gives a shout out to the Parker brothers, defensive tackles Armon and Jayvon. Could one of them, or both, get some playing time this fall? Luke gives some love to juco linebacker Demario King. Luke is excited to see what he can bring to the table this year. The Washington Huskies never went through back-to-back practices during the spring, so it was understandable to see some guys starting to struggle just a little bit after the end of their fourth-straight practice, under beautiful Seattle summer skies on Sunday as the Blue Angels flew overhead. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, Scott Eklund, and former intern Jack McCauley - got together after the practice to rehash what UW Head Coach Kalen DeBoer talked about after practice, as well as how certain players and positions stood out. DeBoer singled out Giles Jackson on offense and Davon Banks on defense as guys that have stood out to him, but there was also a lot of talk between the guys on what the offense didn't do well on Sunday, and that's catch the ball. Almost every skill position group on offense suffered from the drops, and that really hurt the offense's chance to take advantage of some plays where they could have really gashed the defense. After a quick break, the crew talks about the EDGE group, another position group DeBoer has been highly impressed with so far this fall. They also talk a little bit more about the quarterback battle. Did Sunday's practice move the needle in terms of anyone taking a step forward or back? They also talk about a couple of other defensive backs that have impressed them, namely Jordan Perryman and Dominique Hampton. After the final break, the guys provide their final thoughts before Monday's day off, as well as Jack gets a chance to preview a podcast he recorded with Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger a few days ago where they give their thoughts on what they want to see during fall camp. The interns from Dawgman.com - Luke Mounger and Jack McCauley - are still suffering from March Madness, and as such decided to get together and talk about their picks for who will survive and advance in the NCAA Tournament. And for those that just love this time of year, this podcast is a must-listen. The tournament starts today with Texas Southern playing Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 3:40 pm PT, followed by Indiana playing Wyoming. HERE is the television schedule for the tournament. Luke and Jack go in-depth with the West and South brackets to start the podcast. Gonzaga is the number-one seed out West, while Pac-12 Champs Arizona is the top seed in the South. After a quick break they hit the East and Midwest brackets, and then after another quick stop to pay some bills they finish up with their Final Four picks and who ultimately wins the NCAA Tournament, and why. Do they go chalk? How many number-one seeds do they have making it all the way to the Final Four in New Orleans? Which teams are going to win those tossup 8-9 and 7-10 matchups? Who are the 12-seeds that almost always end up with a first-round tournament upset? And how do they think the Pac-12 teams (Arizona, UCLA, USC) are going to fare? Learn more about your ad choices. The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Emeritus Luke Mounger - were joined this week by our new intern, Matthew Fredericksen, and the three got straight to the action of breaking down what they expect to see Friday during the 113th Apple Cup. This is a packed podcast, so don't miss out! Starting with the offensive side of the ball, Jack offers a thorough rundown on who makes the Washington State offense tick, starting with quarterback Jayden de Laura. The discussion then moved on to a comparison between what WSU runs now (Run and Shoot) and what they used to run under former Head Coach Mike Leach (Air Raid). Both are primarily passing offenses, but how are they the same? How do they differ? Moving to the other side of the ball, Luke breaks down the Washington State defense and the players that make it go. Are there some areas that Washington can exploit when their offense is on the field? And how much do they expect to see Sam Huard compared to starting quarterback Dylan Morris? Matt gives his three keys for a Washington win, and also chips in with Jack and Luke to offer confidence levels on a UW victory. And finally, who do they think will become Washington's next head coach? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - tackle the big news of the week; the firing of Washington Head Coach Jimmy Lake. They give their props to Lake, as well as their early takes on the coaching search. They each pick a candidate they like, as well as one they think is likely to get the job. Moving on to the opponent preview, the guys start with the Colorado offense, which features a strong run game and a poor passing game. There are only two CU pass-catchers with 20 catches or more all season. Can the Huskies have success if they can force Colorado to be one-dimensional? And do the Huskies have enough talent on offense to do that? They've only slowed down one rushing offense in Pac-12 play, and that was Stanford. They're the worst in the conference by a country mile. The talk then moves to the defense. With senior linebacker leader Nate Landman questionable for the game on Saturday, Jack breaks down the top Colorado defensive players to know about, as well as the places where Washington might be able to take advantage of a CU defense ranked 10th in scoring defense and 11th in total defense. And what has taken place with the Buffaloes since their heartbreaking 10-7 loss to Texas A&M? They've gone 2-7 since. The guys then take on the Sam Huard dilemma: do they play the true freshman in his fourth game of the season, which means he couldn't play in the Apple Cup if they wanted to keep his redshirt year intact? Or will they hold off playing Huard so they can use him against WSU? Or is the redshirt talk irrelevant at this point? To finish up, the guys give their confidence levels of another UW road win. The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - post their thoughts on Washington's upcoming game with Arizona State, but they first start out with the fallout from Washington's 26-16 loss to No. 4 Oregon. The loss was tough enough to swallow, but UW Head Coach Jimmy Lake was suspended for a week after a sideline altercation with linebacker Ruperake Fuavai after a kickoff. Lake's suspension came on the heels of Lake firing offensive coordinator John Donovan after the game. Do the guys think Lake will get one more chance to coach, or are his days on Montlake numbered? And who would have seen this kind of a program meltdown at UW from the 2019 Rose Bowl on? Moving to the ASU game, Jack asks what seems to be the most relevant question for Washington's defense going in: if Travis Dye went for over 200 yards against UW, and ASU's Rachaad White ran for over 200 yards in his last game, why would the Sun Devils ever pass? And if Jayden Daniels does decide to step back and heave it, who should UW target to get past on ASU's offensive line? And who do they need to be aware of as far as the Sun Devil receivers? Jack breaks it all down for you. Moving to the other side of the ball, Luke talks about ASU's experience on defense, as well as their depth. They are wedded to their 4-3 front, and have been incredibly successful using it. But it's their linebackers that are really their heart and soul. But are they vulnerable? Are there places where a Washington offense led by the new play-calling of Junior Adams can take advantage? And how does UW's offensive line match up at the line of scrimmage? Luke and Jack give their thoughts on this, and you're going to want to listen all the way until the end for this! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - break down what they've seen from the Oregon Ducks so far this season and how they match up against the Washington Huskies going into Saturday afternoon's game at Husky Stadium. Luke tackles the Ducks' offense first, focusing with his take on their quarterback, Anthony Brown. He also touches on their offensive line and the skill players the Ducks should rely on to move the ball against Washington, namely Travis Dye, Johnny Johnson, Devon Williams, and Mycah Pittman. How will the Huskies try and stem UO's potent run game? They've had difficulty all year stopping good run offenses, but has the emergence of younger defenders like Carson Bruener and Voi Tunuufi help change that trend? And can Washington's pass defense, which has been really good all year long, continue to hold up and force Oregon into some uncomfortable down-and-distance situations? Do they resemble any other teams the Huskies have faced? Moving to the other side of the ball, Jack breaks down Oregon's players of note on their defense, starting with defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux. He also mentions Keyon Ware-Hudson, Popo Aumavae, and Brandon Dorlus as other defensive linemen to pay attention to. Moving to linebacker, Noah Sewell is the man in the middle for Oregon. He also talks about Oregon's secondary, including Mykael Wright, DJ James, Verone McKinley, Jamal Hill, Steve Stephens, and others, where they are the No. 10 pass defense in the Pac-12. Are there some holes in the Ducks' defense that Washington can exploit? Jack and Luke go into some of the UW players that would need to have big days to keep up with the No. 4 Ducks, as well as schemes and plays they expect to see from the Huskies to combat UO's defense. And they think the weather could be a factor too. To finish up the preview podcast, Jack and Luke give their confidence levels for a Washington win. There's no question if the Huskies were able to defeat Oregon it would be considered a big upset. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
With the 2021-22 men's basketball season upon us - the team plays Central Washington tonight in their lone exhibition game - it's time to break down what's expected from this year's Hoop Dawgs. And the Dawgman interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - are joined by former Hoop Dawg Jason Crandall as he offers up his insight into the new players that he's gotten a chance to play against over the years. And it's always a good thing to start the podcast off with some breaking news; senior forward Reagan Lundeen has been put on scholarship for his final year, according to Crandall. That certainly answers the question of how Hopkins was going to use the one scholarship available for this season. They start with the incoming transfers, talking about the inclusion of Terrell Brown, Jr., Daejon Davis, Emmitt Matthews, Jr., P.J. Fuller, and others, and how this particular group of transfers offers something different from the previous groups of transfers that have shown up at Montlake, starting on defense. How will Mike Hopkins use the lineup? Will it be pretty static with the starters, or do they think he'll mix and match more? And how will an infusion of length help the Huskies run Hopkins' Syracuse-based zone? The guys then move to the other newcomers, namely Jackson Grant and Langston Wilson. Jack has been able to see Jackson evolve over the years, being from Grant's hometown of Olympia. Crandall, with his UW-based contacts, offers insight into some of the players that stayed with the Huskies after last season, starting with Nate Roberts and moving to Cole Bajema, Jamal Bey, Riley Sorn, and others. Talk then moves to the non-conference schedule and games against teams like Northern Illinois, Northern Arizona, the Crossover Classic in South Dakota (including games with Nevada, George Mason, and South Dakota State), and then the rest of the schedule - including a stretch of games against Arizona, UCLA, and at Gonzaga in early December, that will really test the mettle of this team before the Hoop Dawgs jump headfirst into Pac-12 play just before the new year. To finish the 45-minute preview podcast up, the guys give their thoughts on just how successful the 2021-22 Huskies are going to be. With talk that this particular group is much tighter than ever before, it sounds great. But we've seen this movie play out before. Is this year going to be different? Will they be able to out-perform their 11th place league expectations? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
McCauley's work would help to develop USB drivers, kernel mode drivers, the first scrolling feature for a computer mouse, and the Guitar Hero controller, which made gaming both more tactile and accessible. Then there is his work on the Oculus Rift Dev Kits I and II, before the VR headset company was sold to Facebook US$2.3 billion in cash and stock, in March 2014. In this episode we talk about hardware, education and the early Oculus kickstarter campaign, which probably remains the most famous crowd-funding campaign in internet history.

Saturday's practice was the final open scrimmage of fall camp, and the Washington Huskies played it out like a real game was on the line. Led by quarterbacks Dylan Morris and Sam Huard, the offense came out victorious 34-17 in a day that was also noted by the breakout of redshirt freshman receiver Taj Davis. Davis, from Upland, Calif., took over for an injured Jalen McMillan to catch 13 passes for 197 yards, and the two quarterbacks combined unofficially for 455 yards, three passing touchdowns, and no interceptions. The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters, Scott Eklund, and intern Jack McCauley - dissect what they saw from the live scrimmage, starting with the offense, going position-by-position group, and then moving to the defense after a quick sponsor break. There were a number of starters that didn't play at all or played limited snaps - Jaxson Kirkland, Luke Wattenberg, Terrell Bynum, Trent McDuffie, and Kyler Gordon were the most notable - which meant opportunities for those right behind them in the depth. The Dawgman guys talked about those players that did step up, including some walk-ons on the defense (Mishael Powell, Ben Hines, and Drew Fowler). They also finish the podcast with their general takeaways and what the scrimmage means moving forward as the Huskies continue to work toward their September 4 game hosting Montana, 14 days from now. One of the common themes during the first week of fall camp was the struggles of the wide receivers. They struggled to get open and even when they did, they were very inconsistent in catching the ball. Over the past couple of days though, we've seen an uptick in the play of the receivers, and more specifically second-year freshmen Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan. Sunday's practice on the East Practice Field saw the receivers continue their hot streak with several big catches and consistent hands from everyone who had the ball thrown his way. Dawgman's Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund and intern Jack McCauley sat down after practice and talked about the receivers' contributions as well as a very good day of practice for Dylan Morris and the best practice of young Sam Huard's career at Washington. They also discussed the progress we are seeing from the offense as a whole and the impact that we've seen from players like Sam Adams, Jacobe Covington and several other young players who seem to be moving their way up the depth chart. Jack is an American inventor. Innovator in Residence at Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation at UC Berkeley. Oculus VR Co-Founder and former Chief Engineer. Now active in automotive technology, building cars at his private R&D facility and hardware incubator in Livermore, CA.We discussed start-ups, coding, and electric vehicles - whilst Jack's Team were busy in the background as we went through all of that. A few of my earlier podcast guests 'enter' the conversation as much of where we all are with the challenges of the day and how science and technology intersect get discussed. I learned a lot from Jack in this chat and I'm sure you will too!
The final practice of spring was an actual football game and the fans that were in the stands and those that watched it on the Pac 12 Network were treated to some big plays on offense and a defense that flew around and made things difficult on their offensive counterparts. It was a lot to take in but the guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Scott Eklund, Chris Fetters and intern Jack McCauley -- broke down what they saw and gave their thoughts on the nearly three-hour practice. The quarterback battle is one that everyone wants to figure out, including the coaches, but at this point in time it still looks like it will be a competition between Dylan Morris and Patrick O'Brien and, from what we saw on Saturday, Sam Huard might not be totally out of the race either. They also talked about the receivers and the secondary and how difficult it is for the former to get any kind of separation. Is it because the receivers just aren't very good or because the defensive backs are some of the best in the country? They answer those questions and also gave their thoughts on some of the outstanding newcomers and walk-ons that are currently on the roster including Texas A&M transfer Jeremiah Martin who was one of the standouts of the day, tipping a couple of passes and generally making it almost impossible to run on the Husky defense. They also talked about Cade Otton's one-handed touchdown grab and Elijah Jackson's impressive interception that set up a touchdown and a few other players who stood out. It wasn't the nicest outside, but the Washington Huskies continued to get a lot of work done, and this Saturday's practice was all about situational football. And the guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - were joined by current intern Jack McCauley and former intern Luke Mounger to create a full-on roundtable to break down everything they saw after Day 11 of spring football. They start with the different situations the team practiced, from basic 2-minute situations to a 4-minute drill at the end of practice. The team mixed in wrap tempo with some live work, especially as the offenses got closer to the end zone. The group broke down the work of the offense first, starting with the quarterbacks and moving down through the tailbacks, receivers, tight ends, and the offensive line. They also talked about how some sloppy play in the form of dropped passes and penalties stalled some very promising drives. They then turned their attention to the defense, namely the pass rush without Laiatu Latu and Zion Tupuola-Fetui, who has stepped up in their absence, and who is starting to work their way toward more playing time. Moving inside, it was clear Daniel Heimuli was getting more turns with the ones today, and Josh Calvert was getting some play as an outside linebacker. That became even clearer when he de-cleated Jay'Veon Sunday. Talk finished up with who stood out in the secondary, including Cameron Williams, Jacobe Covington and Makell Esteen, who had the only interception of the day. Finally, are there any real kicking competitions going on at punter and placekicker, and if the team was down three and they needed a 52-yard field goal to tie on the last play of regulation, who would you choose? Peyton Henry? Tim Horn? Jarrett North? The guys hammer out their thoughts on that. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
