What makes him ideally suited for success on the Palouse? What is their style of offense? How much will Moore take from the coaches he's been connected with, like former UW Head Coaches Chris Petersen and Kalen DeBoer?Vinnick also broke down the quarterback battle and what Caden Pinnick did to win it, as well as talking about the players Pinnick will rely on to help move the ball and the linemen up front the Huskies will face.Moving to the defense, what has Vinnick seen from new DC Trent Bray and what style of defense will the Huskies square up against? Who are the key players the Cougars will be counting on to try and limit Demond Williams and the Huskies' offense? And lastly, Vinnick breaks down WSU's special teams and how confident would they be with their specialists when it came time to win the Apple Cup late? And what are a couple of keys for him from the Crimson and Gray perspective to determine the outcome of the game?

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters - spoke after a two-hour Wednesday workout inside Husky Stadium that saw the Washington Huskies go through a number of team periods at thud tempo, as well as a few periods where the first team offense and defense were getting scout team looks, much like they would during a normal game week.Kim feels like starting quarterback Demond Williams is head and shoulders better than a year ago, while Chris is looking forward to seeing how Demond processes things and executes once he's playing a defense that doesn't wear Purple and Gold.On defense, there were a couple of linebackers limited or out, so we got to see a big dose of both MIKs, Taariq Al-Uqdah and Jacob Manu. Is that a combination we could see more of during the season, depending on down and distance and game situation? And one EDGE Chris was asked about this week stepped up with a big Wednesday practice... could it mean the beginning of Logan George and his ascent up the EDGE depth chart? And before they give their final thoughts - which includes some talk on the celebrations for the 2016 team planned during Apple Cup week, as well as the seven captains named ahead of the 2026 season (Williams, John Mills, Landen Hatchett, Drew Azzopardi, Elinneus Davis, Manu, and Alex McLaughlin) - Kim and Chris have differing opinions on which right guard will end up with the most snaps in 2026; Geirean Hatchett or Champ Taulealea?

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got together and talked about the nearly 90-play public scrimmage that took place Saturday night at Husky Stadium. It was billed as a 'mock game' for the fans and definitely shorter than the guys anticipated in terms of total plays and there was a lot of situational work and special teams on display, but it wasn't exactly the easiest practice to follow because of what they were trying to get accomplished. In short, the ball moved around all over the place and didn't share much in common with the previous play in terms of down and distance. That said, they saw some strong performances on both sides of the ball, starting with Demond Williams on offense and Jacob Lane and Ramzak Fruean on defense. Williams unofficially threw for well over 200 yards on 15-18 passing and two touchdowns - one to Christian Moss and one to Baron Naone. First-year quarterback Derek Zammit threw the only other touchdown of the night, an 11-yard strike to first-year walk-on receiver Asa Thompson. With Jedd Fisch saying post-practice that all the players that have been previously held out of competitive situations will be fully ready to go starting Sunday, the guys talked about the depth at both quarterback and running back and how those rooms look right now. They also gave their props to the defensive effort on display, especially at the line of scrimmage and with Ksani Jiles' 40-yard pick six off Treston Kini McMillan. After 14 practices, the real preparations start toward Washington State tomorrow. The guys talked about the media schedule ahead, the practices they will be covering and what to look forward to as the Huskies get closer and closer to game week.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters - were on hand for Washington's fifth practice of fall training camp, and it was the longest of camp by far. At right around 150 minutes, it allowed the team to get a ton of position and install work in, as well as the most team periods they've seen so far.And they moved the last couple team periods into Husky Stadium so the fans on hand could watch them compete in the Greatest Setting in College Football.Kim and Chris started out setting the scene. It was a gorgeous day on Montlake, perfect for a football practice. And the second biggest storyline of the day other than the length of practice was the fact that it wasn't the defense that ruled the day.If anything, it felt like the offense got as many shots on the defense as the other way around. To be fair, the team periods were designed mostly around the red zone or just outside the red zone (drives starting at the 25-yard line going in), and the defense certainly didn't act as a sieve. But when quarterback Demond Williams needed a play to be made down the field, he went to Dezmen Roebuck. The second-year receiver has easily become Demond's go-to guy, but Kim and Chris talked about a couple of other receivers that definitely stepped up their play on Tuesday. And a couple of the other quarterbacks also had strong days throwing the ball, and not just inside Husky Stadium. Now it feels like the questions that surrounded the team going into fall camp have gone from, how are they filling certain positions to, how good is this team going to look like when all their key pieces return to full health? When it came to the team periods, there were a number of players that practiced that weren't used; Jayden Limar, Trey Cooley, Geirean Hatchett, Landen Hatchett, Isaiah Ward, Paul Mencke, and Dylan Robinson. What is it going to look like when those players come back and the battle is fully joined?

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters - offered up their thoughts after day four of fall camp on the shores of Lake Washington, a day that started out a little overcast at first but then the sun burst through by the end of the two-hour practice. And just like the weather, the Huskies' intensity continued to ramp up during their team periods. Ramping things up seemed to be the theme of the day as both the offense and defense saw players come back into view and others made their presence known.Starting with the offensive line, they talked about Kolt Dieterich working exclusively at center and how that is having a ripple effect with both the Hatchett brothers - Geirean and Landen - out of the main competitive periods. It was good to see both of them getting some mental reps and taking more of a part in practice than before, and we fully expect their involvement to grow and grow as the week progresses.Dylan Robinson wasn't available for the team periods, but that gave more time to the other, younger corners. Players like Kayden Greene, Elias Johnson, and Jeron Jones. Elijah Durr was doing a little double duty today as he got in his work at corner and also caught some punts.Today was the first day we got to see some legit punting and return work, so the guys talked about what they saw out of Hunter Green and Luke Dunne. When the Huskies did have their team periods, they were mostly done in the red zone. Kim and Chris talked about who stood out on both sides of the ball during these periods, starting with safety Alex McLaughlin, who had two interceptions on the day, both against Demond Williams on passes intended for Rashid Williams.

The people have been asking, so we delivered! Luke Mounger and Jack McCauley are back for year eight of the Mac and Mounger Show, talking all things Washington Football. The podcast started with the discrepancies between the weights listed for certain players and what the coaches said they actually are. But instead of talking about that, Luke wanted to know how Jack would want his height and weight to be if he was on the roster. Then they get to the heart of the pod, which is their thoughts of UW Football starting back up, things they're excited about and players they want to know more about as things move closer and closer to the September 6 opener versus Washington State. For Jack, he's looking forward to hearing more about certain position groups, like the linebackers and how that room is going to sort itself out with so much returning experience and talent, or the running backs and defensive line. He's also curious about how the receiver room is going to shake out, especially the starters behind Dezmen Roebuck. For Luke, he's also interested in the receiver room and how some of the true freshmen that stood out in spring will continue to make their mark. Could they be from game one? Kodi Greene and Derek Colman-Brusa were inserted into the first team from the first rep of spring football. Will they continue to hold down those spots? Both Luke and Jack have their favorites.Jack is curious how Demond Williams is going to react without Jonah Coleman and Denzel Boston around as reliable pieces that helped him distribute the ball.Luke is curious to see how the team as a whole will react to being in Jedd Fisch's system for three years. With so much coaching continuity as well as scheme and style of play, will the Huskies make as big a jump from year two to three as they did from year one to two?The guys finish up the podcast with their expectations for some second-year players - players like RB Quaid Carr and safety Rylon Dillard-Allen.

So in part 2 of our Media Day recap show Todd Blackledge and I took a deep dive into the most critical position in sports and shared what we learned after being around most of the signal callers in the B1G.Welcome to today's Y-Option podcast, fueled by our founding sponsor 76, keeping you on the GO GO so you never miss a beat. The West Coast has finally captured their footing in the Big Ten and their signal callers are primed to thrive this fall. We spent time in Chicago with Dante Moore, Jayden Maiava, Demond Williams and Nico Iamaleava, as well as Julian Sayin and others. It's a gifted crop of QBs which means that most games will come down to a final drive, which only makes watching and broadcasting these games that much more enjoyable.I'm off to watch USC practice and later this week, Todd and I kick off our training camp tour. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got together to talk about what they expect to see when fall camp breaks for Washington on August 6.Starting with the quarterback position, they go through position-by-position and talk about the main players for each room, expected position battles, the health of each room going into camp, and who needs to step up and be counted on as the Huskies look to improve on a season where they averaged 409.9 yards and 34.1 points per game. When it comes to the signal-callers, what does Demond Williams need to do to take the next step in his development? Is it for sure that former Stanford quarterback Elijah Brown will be his backup? How ready are Jayden Limar and Trey Cooley when it comes to leading the running backs despite not playing at all during spring? And who is going to join them as the backs Scottie Graham will have to lean on this fall? Will Christian Moss be able to overcome his spring nicks and dings to provide the kind of production and leadership needed for a very young receiving corps? And who are the younger receivers that have the potential to step up and be counted on?As far as the tight ends go, will they have the bodies necessary to play more than 11 or 12 personnel? Could a third tight end emerge? Will Kade Eldridge go back to strictly being a tight end, or did Jedd Fisch see enough of him at fullback to continue using him there too?And when it comes to the offensive line, are the starters set even though two of them missed basically all of spring? Are there still position battles to be had, especially inside? And who are the linemen Michael Switzer can count on for providing quality depth? One thing is for sure; they are so much bigger and better as a unit than they were back when Fisch took over in 2024.

The Big Ten enters 2026 after winning three consecutive national championships with Michigan, Ohio State and Indiana—and Oregon may be positioned to make it four champions in four years.Gary Segars previews all 18 programs, starting with the three-team championship tier. Oregon has the conference's most complete roster around Dante Moore, an experienced defense and a manageable schedule. Ohio State may possess the highest ceiling with Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith, but the Buckeyes face significant defensive turnover and a brutal path. Indiana must replace a Heisman Trophy quarterback and major championship production, yet Curt Cignetti's transfer-portal record keeps the Hoosiers firmly in contention. The dark-horse tier includes USC, Michigan, Penn State and Washington. USC has the offensive talent to disrupt the race if Gary Patterson repairs the defense. Michigan begins a fascinating new era with Kyle Whittingham and Bryce Underwood, while Penn State undergoes a near-total program transplant under Matt Campbell. Demond Williams gives Washington upset potential against anyone. The episode also ranks the conference's bowl-level teams and rebuilds, evaluates the best quarterbacks and units, analyzes schedule advantages and travel disadvantages, and identifies the games most likely to determine the Big Ten Championship. The final predictions include a rematch title game, the surprise team, the potential disappointment and betting analysis involving Oregon, Wisconsin, Iowa, UCLA, Penn State and USC.

Some quarterbacks earn their scars. Some have them handed to them. Either way, they're part of the path. This week's episode of Y-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth is with a QB who knows that better than most - Demond Williams Jr of the Washington Huskies. Demond heads into year three at UW with a chance to be one of the most dynamic players in America and in my eyes, is the most challenging quarterback to prepare for in the nation. As always, each episode of Y-Option is fueled by our founding sponsor, 76, keeping you on the GO GO GO so you never miss a beat.Demond and I sat down at the Elite 11 Finals, where he was pouring into the next generation of quarterbacks as a counselor. It was a full circle moment as Demond was a camper there himself. When he showed up in high school I shared the same note with him as we shared with every QB each summer: the only guarantee is that your path will not go as you envision it.'That's the thing about playing QB, the path never goes as planned. This past off-season tested Demond in a way most people will never experience, but all have an opinion on. For the UW star, what came on the other side of a hectic 48 hours wasn't bitterness. Rather, it was growth. He and I talked about leaning on his faith. His family. His support system. About having to go back and rebuild relationships, brick by brick, and how that work shaped the leader he's become. Not a quieter version of himself. A more outspoken one with an edge. And the difference shows up in the small moments. Where he used to stay after practice throwing extra routes, now he's just as likely to be hanging with his teammates. One might say they are building the culture from the inside out. That's not an accident. That's a veteran understanding what actually wins football games. His bond with Jedd Fisch is 4 years deep now. Built on trust. Built on what they call PCP in their offense: play caller purpose. Knowing exactly what's being asked, then making it happen.Washington has a loaded schedule this fall. The Apple Cup to open on NBC. A trip to USC. Penn State at home. Indiana at home. Finish in Eugene. Overall, a real chance to make noise in the Big Ten and push toward the Playoff conversation. And I can't wait to get there to see it in person week 1 as the season is right around the corner.Much love and stay steady, YogiY-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth is a reader-supported publication.
