For his efforts, Brotherton was named the 2020 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Coach of the Year and the 2020 VYPE Houston Coach of the Year. Brotherton took a program with just 17 players in his first year (2012) to as many as 70 players to form five teams for grades 6-12 at The Village School by 2020. Brotherton led The Village School to their first playoff appearance for a girls' sports team in school history, qualifying for the TAPPS 4A state tournament, and had six-straight 20+ win seasons. Brotherton serves as the executive director of Coaches Edge, a company that has created a community workspace for coaching development. In episode 97 of GT247's Tigers in 20, host and lead writer Christian Fowler and GoTigers247 digital content producer Kenny Stubblefield discuss the latest in Memphis football and basketball. To begin the episode, Fowler and Stubblefield quickly recap the news of Jordan Nesbitt and his early enrollment at Memphis. Nesbitt is already on campus taking classes, and he will be eligible to practice and play for the remainder of the season. Next, the duo recaps Memphis' one-point loss to Tulsa. Although the Tigers played well in the second half, they couldn't find a way to finish out the Golden Hurricane. Memphis finished the game with a season-high 21 turnovers, which was the biggest reason they couldn't win the game. The GT247 crew explains how and why Memphis has had trouble finishing out games all season. Memphis has played in close games all year, but they seemingly can't find a way to win in the last 5-7 minutes of a game. This has been a recurring issue for Penny Hardaway and the Tigers all season, and they will continue to struggle if they can't figure something out. Finally, Fowler and Stubblefield take a look forward to Memphis' upcoming game against Wichita State. The Shockers have been surprisingly good this season despite firing head coach Gregg Marshall and losing multiple players to the transfer portal. Wichita State currently sits at second in the American Athletic Conference as Tyson Etienne and Alterique Gilbert have led the way for the Shockers. With the way they've played this season, this will likely be another close back-and-forth game for the Tigers. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ohio State destroyed Maryland 73-14, which means the Buckeyes have won nine straight games by 20 points or more. And they out-gained the Terps in total offense 192-1 more yard than I gained from the couch watching that game. With a 46-41 win against the Tide, the LSU Tigers snapped Alabama’s 31-game home-win-streak. President Trump was at the game. He was the first sitting president since William H. Taft in 1909 to attend an LSU game, which is as political as this channel is gonna get. Minnesota upset Penn State 31-26 at TCF Bank Stadium. Antoine Winfield Jr. had two picks. Rashod Bateman snatched seven passes for 203 yards, and the win ended a 13-game losing streak against ranked opponents. The win against No. 4 Penn State was the Golden Gophers’ first against a top-five opponent since beating No. 2 Penn State in 1999. The Gophers have a two-game lead in the West Division with three left to play, which means the rodent is this close to getting exterminated by Ohio State. Clemson neutered the Wolfpack 55-10, but that team lost its manhood to West Virginia two months ago. Georgia’s defense decided to make like Judge Smails with Mizzou. You’ll get nothing and like it. The 27-0 victory was the third shutout the Bulldogs pitched this season, which is the first time that’s happened since 1981. Oregon and Utah didn’t play this week. But nobody noticed, and the Pac-12 Network probably didn’t either. And when it does you’ll never see it. Baylor damn near screwed up getting College Game Day to come to the crib. They beat Texas Christian 29-23 in three overtimes in a game that yielded five turnovers, six sacks and 21 penalties for 192 yards, which is 52 yards more than Max Duggan passed for and 93 more yards than Baylor rushed for, and my Baylor thank you for putting yourself in position to take this Sooner whooping in front of a national TV crowd. Lincoln Riley's Oklahoma Sooners barely beat Matt Campbell's Iowa State Cyclones 42-41 on Saturday night, and it's the closest thing to a bad win OU has seen in years. Jalen Hurts hit 18 of 26 passes for 273 yards and rushed for 68 on 22 carries. Brock Purdy passed for 282 yards with five touchdowns, and Breece Hall rushed for 110 yards on 18 carries. Oklahoma defensive coordinator Alex Grinch has some explaining to do as the Sooners have given up an average of damn near 45 points per game. Somebody stab me. Arkansas finally did what I said they were gonna do and removed Chad Morris from the driver’s seat in the hopes that Jesus will take the wheel. With a 4-18 record in Fayetteville, Morris got just one more game to get something going than he of the box-stealing, build a clubhouse clique, Willie Taggart, and has a record of 18-40 as a head coach. You can’t lose to Western Kentucky 45-19 and expect to be on the Razorback Christmas list. Chad Morris once worked at the University of Tulsa, and that’s my segue into 3-7 TU’s upset of 7-3 Central Florida in a game TU deserved to win. UCF did their damndest to help the Golden Hurricane with a Tulsa-esque 15 penalties for 120 yards, and Seth OK Boomer tried to give me a heart attack, but I didn’t stroke out though I’m sure some TU boosters did. K-State gave up the booty to Texas on a late smash from Dicker the Kicker who just keeps trying to make me use R-rated terms to describe his elongated right leg, but I have not given in yet. And Appalachian State is the Carolina states champ with wins over North Carolina and South Carolina. Transitive energy says you rank them right ahead of UGA, cowards.

We're back with another episode! Fankhauser rejoins us this week in the wake of National Signing Day and one of the most dominant road wins of the Scott Drew era. Fank's going to be a regular fixture on the podcast for the remainder of basketball season, and we're thrilled to have him Aftermath of National Signing Day We're talking about the aftermath of National Signing Day, recognizing just how absurd the "event" has gotten, fully realizing that we are part of the problem, but that there's nothing much to be done about it. Plus, Mike Gundy threw gas on the whole don't-tweet-at-recruits fire last week when he said the following: This year, people are back to flipping. There were a lot of guys changing their minds and changing schools. I think the reason for that is because of the internet...I think the fans play a role in that, because they can contact the recruits. I think they’re a huge impact in recruiting now, whether we as coaches (believe that or not). These fans who are contacting these players can affect the way they think. You never know why kids do what they do, but I’m convinced, in some of the ones we were involved in this year, they were affected be people who contacted them on their Twitter account. (hit that link for the full quote) Yeahhhhh... Probably not the best way to shut that down. Every fan base thinks that theirs is the only team that does things right and everyone else cheats or is the shadiest team ever. We talk about it briefly, but I must say that for the most part, I was pleased with how the majority of Baylor fans handled themselves this recruiting cycle, most significantly with Chad President in the wake of Jarrett Stidham committing and his moving to Tulsa. Baylor fans were largely supportive, and the combination of Coach Phil Montgomery and President at Tulsa means the Golden Hurricane won quite a few new fans in Baylor supporters. Next we're talking about the coaching carousel and its relationship to National Signing Day. This is an interesting point Mark brings up that is fascinating and I won't spoil it, but it's an interesting problem, and we think that there's a fairly easy solution that won't ever happen. Give it a listen. I will say this... A global Bobby Petrino clause is something sorely needed. Basketball Time! The past few weeks have completely altered the expectations and outlook of this team. While the Bears have been incredible at home (Fank points out that a one-point loss to Kansas at home is all that is between us and an 18-game winning streak at home), they've struggled on the road until the past couple of weeks, culminating with Saturday's dominant win over West Virginia in Morgantown. Baylor was able to get past the Mountaineer full court press, controlling the game and preventing West Virginia from ever closing the lead to less than 14 points. Every time the Mountaineers looked like they might make a run and make the game tighter, the Bears were able to answer and rebuild the lead. Part of what has been so impressive about this season has been the defense. Scott Drew teams have always been knocked for their lack of defense, but it seems like this squad's foundation is the defense, and the offense is only really starting to mature at this stage of the season. That's gone a good bit of distance to silencing the Scott Drew critics. Plus, this latest win is another testament to his coaching, since the only way you beat a full-game full court press like the one WVU employs is through superior coaching. It's been most impressive. Since the run last spring, the Drew detractors are becoming quieter and quieter. We here at ODB are enormous supporters of Scott Drew and hope he stays as long as he can. It is known. What's more, this team seems to be gelling as a squad and truly operating as a team, not relying on one star for the majority of its buckets. There isn't a player that we look at and say "As Player X goes, so goes the team." That is very exciting to watch. We do talk about the development of Taurean Prince as well as the absolutely dominant season Rico Gathers is putting up on the boards. My favorite stat: Gathers has 287 rebounds in 29.1 minutes/game, coming out to 17.1 rebounds per 40 minutes. That's a pretty decent clip. Tonight the Bears play Oklahoma State at the Ferrell. GO. GO TO THIS GAME. Thanks. That is all. Almost. Mark has a special message towards the end.
