Authorities in Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, are investigating incidents of arson targeting ballot boxes, which have destroyed hundreds of ballots just days before Election Day. The FBI has launched a probe into the attacks, which also include a related case involving incendiary devices in Phoenix, Arizona. These incidents highlight growing security concerns as early voting progresses. However, despite media narratives pointing towards right-wing interference, the proximity to Portland, a hub for left-wing activism, suggests otherwise. Critics argue that media framing risks undermining trust in election integrity by prematurely attributing blame. County officials in Vancouver are now deploying staff to monitor drop boxes 24/7 to prevent further disruption. As states grapple with mail-in voting and ballot drop boxes, these events emphasize the urgent need for secure voting systems amid contentious political climates.

My friend John Crane (lives in Austin TX, grew up in Oregon/Washington, Sweden RM 1966-68, married a woman, has 4 kids and many grandkids, divorced, been with husband Thom for over 35 years, no longer LDS), joins us to share his story being gay and a deep believer in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. John starts with his growing up years and finding his spiritual home in the Church and then serving a successful mission in Sweden. John talks about getting married to a woman (being more of a “church assignment”) and having 4 kids. John talks about that marriage ending and deciding to date men (which led to being excommunicated—John fulfilled a church assignment the night before). John talks about painful/messy experiences dating men (and being in unhealthy relationships) and continue to pray to God for direction. John talks about finding his husband Thom (also a RM) being the answer to his prayers (and Thom's prayers) and how they built a life—and beautiful love story—together. John—a deeply emotional and spiritual man—talks about his love of Heavenly Father, the Savior, the Gospel of Jesus Christ and scriptures and the many deeply spiritual experiences that are part of his journey (including baptizing his Dad). John talks about his husband Thom and their deep love and companionship (and being there for each other as they get older) and Thom's dedicated temple family history work and his support of his kids/grandchildren who have/will serve missions. I'm so grateful for John's courage to be on the podcast and share his story and his insights into the character of God/our Savior and their constant role in our lives. You are a good man, John. Your story will help so many. Links: John's e-mail: john144@gmail.com The inspiration for John's e-mail: John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. John 14:5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

(0:00-0:40) Intro (0:41-5:37) Michigan at Big Ten Media Days (5:38-19:19) Donovan Edwards at Big Ten Media Days (19:20-27:06) Dan Lannign at Big Ten Media Days (27:07-34:06) Oregon LB Jeffrey Bassa joins the show (34:07-50:19) Washington Head Coach Jedd Fisch Joins (50:20-57:52) Indiana Head Coach Curt Cignetti Joins (57:53-58:37) Conclusion - See you next week! With all the talk about Ohio State's offseason roster moves and Oregon's entry into the Big Ten, it's easy to forget that the Big Ten also is home to the defending national champs. Michigan visited Big Ten Media Days on Thursday and offered a reminder that while the Wolverines lost a lot of great players to the NFL, the cupboard isn't bare. One potential breakout star is Donovan Edwards, who struggled through a disappointing 2023 season before exploding for 104 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries in the national title game win against Washington. Edwards talked Thursday about how he got through last season and how much he's grown ahead of this season. Next, Andy breaks down Oregon coach Dan Lanning's discussion of recruiting. Oregon has a big NIL war chest, but not an unlimited one. But does it bother Lanning that his recruiting success is credited to NIL deals when recruiting wins at Georgia or Ohio State are credited differently? After that, Oregon linebacker Jeffrey Bassa discusses the huge expectations for the Ducks. Then we look at the other side of the Oregon-Washington rivalry as new Huskies coach Jedd Fisch joins Andy to talk about rebuilding a team that won't look anything like the one that played for a national title. Andy is then joined by another first-year coach — Indiana's Curt Cignetti. Cignetti won big at James Madison, and he's loaded the Hoosiers' roster with veteran transfers who played well at the Group of 5 level. Will that method produce a quick start at a place not known for winning football? Want to watch the show instead? Join us M-F, LIVE, at 8 am et on YouTube! The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Oregon Department of Agriculture recently announced the closure of shellfish harvesting throughout the entire Oregon coast. In Washington, officials have also closed shellfish harvesting throughout the state’s Pacific Coast. Agencies are checking for a marine biotoxin which can cause paralytic shellfish poisoning. The naturally occurring biotoxin affects the nervous system. People with paralytic shellfish poisoning can experience tingling of the lips and tongue, nausea and difficulty breathing. The illness has been linked to the sickening of at least 20 people in Oregon last month. The Oregon Health Authority is also asking people who recently harvested or ate any shellfish from the Oregon Coast to complete a survey. Officials are investigating illnesses linked to contaminated shellfish. We learn more about biotoxins and how climate change might be affecting algae that produce them from Vera Trainer, the marine program manager of the University of Washington’s Olympic Natural Resources Center.

In the final hour, Dan Bernstein and Leila Rahimi were joined by NBC Sports Chicago analyst Kendall Gill to break down the Bulls' inspired effort in their 120-113 win over the Bucks on Thursday at the United Center. Chicago's two leading scorers in forward DeMar DeRozan (ankle sprain) and guard Zach LaVine (foot soreness) were sidelined by injury. The midday crew then discussed how the Oregon-Washington matchup in the Pac-12 Championship could impact the Heisman Trophy race. Later, Bernstein and Rahimi reacted to Bulls guard Alex Caruso's funny take on teammates mobbing him after he hit the game-tying 3-pointer against the Bucks to send the game to overtime.
