Julio Jones might have been the missing piece, but he is now a Tampa Bay Buc. That doesn't worry Chris Ballard, who said yesterday that he was never interested in Jones, but signed Isaiah Ford. (at 6:50) The position battle between cornerbacks Isaiah Rodgers and Brandon Facyson needs to be won by Rodgers - and it will be. (at 10:04) Jerry Jones cannot keep his mouth shut, so the Cowboys will continue to drift in mediocrity. Locked On Hoosiers - Daily Podcast On Indiana Hoosiers Football & Basketball
Indiana Hoosiers football may not have a storied history, but that doesn't take anything away from how great of a career Micah McFadden had in Bloomington. The problem now for Tom Allen is replacing him both as a player and a leader. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) previews the linebackers and secondary to wrap up the positional preview series for the football team. The two positions are intertwined within the defense under Allen, which makes it a perfect combo to share an episode. There is no hole bigger than the one left in the linebacking core from McFadden. Cam Jones will help alleviate some of that burden as he returns this fall but the other LB spot will be up in the air with Dasan McCullough, Bradley Jennings and Myles Jackson candidates to step up this season. The show wraps by looking at the secondary where there are far fewer questions as they should anchor the defense and the team this season. Tiawan Mullen will be the most talented player on that side of the ball along with Devon Matthews, Jaylin Williams and Noah Pierre. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Locked On Hoosiers - Daily Podcast On Indiana Hoosiers Football & Basketball
The Indiana Hoosiers football team will undergo a bit of a shakeup heading into the summer as Donaven McCulley looks set to make the move from quarterback to wide receiver. One of the handful of players to take snaps last season, McCulley looks to be switching to a position where his future could potentially be brighter. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) breaks down the news of McCulley's position change this offseason. Recruited as an athlete out of high school, McCulley had scholarship offers to play WR at Power 5 schools. Away from the football field, CJ Gunn showed out in the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star games over the weekend. Gunn took home MVP honors in Saturday's game and scored 20 points in both contests on Friday and Saturday, leading Indiana to pair of blowout wins. A potential future Hoosier in Xavier Booker will be on campus this week for an unofficial visit. Booker, the No. 4 prospect in the Class of 2024, will be making his second visit to IU where he'll watch the team practice and visit with Coach Mike Woodson, Coach Kenya Hunter and the rest of the staff. Class of 2024 prospect Asa Newell out of Montverde Academy will also visit Bloomington this week. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Matt Ryan is relentlessly positive with the media, but you can find useful information is you sift through his comments. Jordan Glasgow being waived could be great news for a rookie like JoJo Domann! (at 9:39) Whether IU Basketball being ranked #1 in the Big 10 by BTN depends upon how much respect you have for Andy Katz, the guy who did the ranking! (at 11:30) CJ Carr commits to Notre Dame, which means other class of 2024 QBs may have renewed interest in Jim Harbaugh's Michigan program. Reich's lack of deep playoff runs is causing some fans to become impatient, but Reich is a hot start away from proving he is absolutely the right leader for the Colts. (at 10:10) Daeh McCullough de-commits from Indiana Football. (at 11:20) Nick Saban's whining about college football becoming a professional sport begs the question why he's paid more than $10 million if Bama isn't a pro franchise! (00:00-23:47) – We're back from the holiday weekend as Dan opens up on the Colts loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dan hammers on the idea that the Colts went to the passing game so often, 26 consecutive times in fact, instead of utilizing Jonathan Taylor. Later, Sean takes us around the NFL in Week 12 with his favorite results and storylines. Later, Sean looks ahead to the Colts next opponent in the Houston Texans. Hoosiers last had a 40-point scorer in 1994 at the Breslin Center when Alan Henderson did it. We're joined by ESPN college football stats guru Bill Connelly to talk IU football! Bill is the originator of the SP+, an efficiency-based ratings system for college football. We discuss the 2020 Hoosiers in depth, and dive into why IU's SP+ numbers didn't match their poll rankings. We then look to the current season and evaluate how Indiana is projecting forward, why they have so many toss-up games, and what areas IU might improve upon. We also take a specific look at a couple of key early-season matchups and talk about what Hoosier fans might expect in those games.
We apologize for the long delay between podcasts. Our way of apologizing is by nearly breaking the 100 minute barrier on this episode. Scott and Galen do a rare in-person show, and we spent the first half of the show talking about IU football's last month, discussing the victories on the recruiting trail, and answering your questions about the program's momentum. We then turn to men's soccer and give a preview of the Hoosiers' chances in the NCAA tournament, before finally pivoting to men's basketball and talking at length about a variety of subjects, including the impact of Dane Fife's arrival, Logan Duncomb's potential impact, the recruitment of Kopp and Bates, the culture shift going on in terms of IU recruiting targets, and more.
We give our thoughts on a disappointing Outback Bowl performance and talk about why things went down the way they did, and what Indiana missed out on by losing the game. Several Twitter questions are fielded throughout as we hear from the audience on their feelings about the game, the season, and next year.
Zach Osterman of the Indy Star is back, as we talk about IU Football's week after the bowl selection fiasco, the team's mental and physical state heading into next weekend, and get a preview of Ole Miss and a breakdown of how IU matches up.
IU Artifacts is back, joining us on the latest episode of CrimsonCast to talk IU football. We discuss the lead-in to the season and some of the historical comparisons that last season has to prior seasons where the Hoosiers exceeded expectations. We also discuss some of the more granular details of IU's roster as we get closer to the start of the Penn State game, and evaluate the sorts of things that Indiana needs to do in order to ensure a second straight successful season. We finish the conversation with an extended look at Caleb Coffman's great feature piece in the Indiana Daily Student about John Feinstein and the writing of the seminal Bob Knight (and IU basketball) book "A Season On The Brink". We discuss our reflections from having read both the book and the piece, and think about the implications of the book 35 years later on the image of Knight and the lessons that were learned.
Our friend Chronic Hoosier returns as a guest on CrimsonCast, which gives us a chance to talk about IU Football at length. We talk about the long-term aspects of being an IU football supporter and how the inherent cynicism of the fanbase is something that may warrant being put away for this season. We also discuss the way the program has come together under Tom Allen and what that might portend for a season in which the normal order of college football has been uprooted. We also talk a bit about this weekend's game vs Penn State, and ponder what the Hoosiers need to do in order to come away with a victory against the Nittany Lions.
