This is a rebroadcast of the Arftic Arts for Animals event show which aired on Saturday, February 21, 2015 Janesville Community Radio went on the road again and this time for the Arftic Art for Animals and Friends of NOAH event. Show-time was Noon and live from the Pontiac Convention Center on the near north side of Janesville, Wisconsin. This was a huge event and many folks came by to meet some of the Janesville Community Radio hosts. The event was in support of our animal friends. The event wass from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, 21 February 2015. Several participants at the event were interview on air by the Janesville Commnity Radio Project crew. Kristin Peterson is a Janesville native and a filmmaker. While she is working on her own short film Dog*Walk, for the past 3 years, Kristin’s been closely involved with Beloit International Film Festival where she works as a programmer and other things. We spoke about what Kristin learned from watching over 3,000 films, the importance of sound, and how we could get Angelina Jolie to work with small independent moviemakers. Amy Stevens is a professor of special education at UW-Whitewater. Amy stopped in to talk about the work she does in Jamaica where she goes annually to help train local teachers, what she learned from her experience, how great the island nation’s needs are, and how little things from America, can make a huge difference in a one-room school house in Jamaica. Bruce Noble, John Endrizzi and Linda Wyeth are working to raise awareness of Enbridge pipeline, which runs through 12 counties in Wisconsin, including Rock, where it passes under the Rock river. Grassroots Pipeline Awareness Group works to bring awareness to this important fact. It also advocates for proper training for those in public safety who would be dealing with the aftermath, should the unthinkable happen, which is does with some regularity. Cinder Roherty is a writer of several adult romance novels, several of which she has self-published. Most recently, Cinder has also written a young adult novel. In the studio, Cinder shared her approach to writing, how she develops her characters, and the importance of asking “What if?” Draven Umbra is a local resident who started a GoFundMe site, looking to raise funds to create a Hackerspace here in Janesville. What is Hackerspace? Wikipedia defines it as “a community-operated workspace where people with common interests, often in computers, machining, technology, science, digital art or electronic art, can meet, socialize and collaborate.” Draven shared his reasons behind deciding to give this idea a try, and why he feels it is needed in Janesville. Next, Draven Umbra shared his passion for scary clowns and make up, which he puts on full display, as a regular cast member of Forest of Freaks, a popular outdoor haunted house. On this episode of Discover Janesville with Yuri Rashkin: In 2011 Lexie Seaver was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, given 6 months to live and told she would not live to see her 26th birthday. Recently, following an aggressive set of treatments and surgeries, Lexie was once again given just a few months to live. Lexie has just celebrated her 30th birthday. Then, two weeks ago, her dad John Seaver was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Through all of this and now seizures, Lexie continues to write about her experience and communicate with many friends on Facebook who provide her with a constant stream of encouragement, which she appreciates. Yuri spoke with Lexie as she was waiting to be with her dad during his chemo treatment. Learn the inspiring story of this amazing woman, and how she continues her daily battle for survival.
