How to work together? How to work? How to? A talk with Dr. Marc R. Dusseiller, who is a transdisciplinary scholar, lecturer for micro- and nanotechnology, cultural facilitator and artist. Frici is assembling a core group of people interested in starting a hackerspace in Sonoma County California, but he's got some questions. How do you get enough paying people to start affording rent? How do you proceed when you don't have a space or 501c3 status yet? How do you create something from nothing?

KidsLab - a podcast for parents and educators passionate about STEAM education
Today on the show, I am talking to Camilo Parra Palacio, the founder of Otto DIY - it’s all about 3D printable robot components and project kids to take your STEAM learning to new levels.Camilo is a Product Design Engineer and the Founder of Otto DIY. He’s a Designer by profession, roboticist and 3D printing enthusiast by passion. Born in Colombia a drive for adventure and pursuing his dreams took him to China in 2014, while working in Shanghai for a multinational inflatable toy manufacturer, he wondered upon the very first Hackerspace in China. There he started playing, learning and experimenting with DIY robots. At that time DIY robots were only accessible to professionals, and not well known to the general public. After coming up short with finding an easy to make robot for all ages, he realized what he needed to do. Bring to the market an open source robot that anyone can make. He bought a 3D printer and in a couple of months the iconic shape of Otto was made functional.Since then thousands of people started using Otto all around the world due to it’s simple Do-it-yourself home assembly attributes. Otto DIY is headquartered in Czech Republic, the center of Europe where the term robot and the best open source 3D printer was created. Thanks to Otto DIY open source nature, it has become one of the most popular 3D printable robot designs in the world. And by the way: Otto is the first-ever Open Source Hardware certificated project from the Czech Republic!

Dominic & Gillian (@ddiasco) explore the last UK Maker Faire in April 2018. They start outside on Times Square. They chat with Dave of Rowan Wood Carving before heading inside to chat with a couple of makers. This bonus episode was recorded in April 2018, at the time we did not know that this was to be the last UK Maker Faire (though please don’t be confused there are OTHER UK based Maker Faire’s they’re just not called the UK Maker Faire). I managed to chat with Ruth Amos, an inventor and engineer who is the star of YouTubes “Kids Invent Stuff” and an initiative to help build confidence for kids and especially girls to be more at ease with using tools. Some links to Ruth’s work: https://twitter.com/RuthAmos on Twitter #GirlsWithDrills for her initiative with Kisha Bradley KidsInventStuff on YouTube with Sean Brown We got to speak to Colin Furze, probably the most successful British maker on YouTube. After another longer pause, we're trying a new approach by inviting guests more frequently. Which is why Kody joined us to chat about a lot of stuff, like DefCon, surveillance in the US, more WiFi flaws, projects, hackerspaces and how to build a community.

In this installment of the Future Grind podcast, host Ryan O'Shea is joined by Michael Laufer. Michael is a mathematician and university professor who has turned his attention to do-it-yourself pharmaceuticals, creating and disseminating open-source plans for low-cost alternatives to expensive medical treatment. He is the chief spokesperson for the Four Thieves Vinegar Collective, and he received a lot of media attention in 2016 after creating a $30 DIY alternative to the EpiPen, which is 10x cheaper than they could be purchased for. His work has been featured by Scientific American, IEEE, Vice, CNN, and more. We discuss the future of healthcare, information as power, and subversion. A word of warning - in this episode, we discuss the production and potential use of home-made pharmaceuticals. Ingesting any of these compounds should be considered extremely dangerous, and things can go wrong. I advise consulting with a trained medical doctor and seeking expert opinions before taking your healthcare into your own hands.
