It's a shorter episode this week but we dive into Packers @ Bears. Green Bay coming out of the bye...and has Chicago hit rock bottom...? Dan says maybe not yet. But one change has been made and more could be coming. Week 10 results and week 11 predictions. The Badgers are also coming out of the bye and host #1 Oregon on Saturday night. Plus...is Indiana any good? College hoops is underway: Badgers are 3-0 and Marquette hasn't lost either. The Bucks have won two in a row and could be trending up. What's up with Kris Middleton? Silver Slugger Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras. It's the last week of the season for the UW-Whitewater football team....or is it...? And our high school hoops broadcasts start next week...the same week as the state football championships at Camp Randall. All that more on this episode. Tell your friends.
A belated and now outdated 90-minute edition from last Thursday that Spotify wouldn't let us upload...includes the Packers getting blasted by the Lions and the Bears getting hammered by the Cardinals. You can check our predictions for Week 10 that's almost over heading into tonight's Monday night matchup. A good conversation about the Badgers and whether this systematic reboot is a good idea coming off their ass-kicking at the hands of Iowa. College hoops kicked off with win by Wisconsin and Marquette. The Bucks are 2-8 now, but were 1-6 at the time of the recording. Lots of Brewers news with gold glovers, guys no longer on the team and some future moves happening...? HS Football playoffs were nearly wrapped up for area teams (they are now) and UW-Whitewater went into a do-or-die week...and the results were not great. All that and more on this (outdated) edition of the Intentional Foul. Maybe not tell your friends...?
Jim Rutledge and Molly Brown hold it down for NFL Trade deadline day when the Packers were DEALERS for the second year in a row, trading Preston Smith to the Steelers for a 7th-round pick. Jim and Molly discuss Green Bay choosing to trade away Smith despite being clear playoff contenders this year unlike last year when they traded Rasul Douglas. They comapre the Packers decision to the Lions, who acquired old NFC North friend Za'Darius Smith, and the Steelers, Ravens, Vikings and other playoff contenders who all acquired players at the deadline. They also ask if the Packers fans to describe how they feel (frustrated, confused, or annoyed) about the team's overall philosophy and general lack of aggression surrounding trades and free agency? Standup comedian Kevin Bozeman joins Jim and Molly on an all-around hectic day (both in sports and America overall)! They talk with Kevin about his upcoming shows in Madison and his time living in small-town Jefferson, Wisconsin as a Bears and Chicago sports fan in general. Kevin talks about Chicago sports teams handing out disappointments like Oprah handing out prizes, "pulling an Eberflus", and where is he starting to take joy Kevin in the "cracks in Jordan Love's game" and Khris Middleton's retirement-looking hairline... They also touch on Kevin's career and playstyle as a basketball player at UW-Whitewater, what's the difference (or lack thereof) between towns like Jefferson and Ft. Atkinson, where are the suburbs located in Platteville!

Back in Studio B after a week off....and after three weeks in the NFL, it's absolute pandemonium! Packers are 2-0 with Malik Willis at the helm and Matt LaFleur seems like a genius. The Bears had chances to win their last two games and couldn't pull either of them out. Week 3 results plus Week 4 matchups. Badgers off the bye week with a new QB1 and look decidedly average to just below. Some decent upsets this past weekend. Brewers are NL Central Division champions! Who they gonna get in the playoffs...? Plus standings and playoff races heading into the last week. Locally, halfway through the high school football season...and it's Parker/Craig week. UW-Whitewater got destroyed by Mary Hardin-Baylor and enters the bye week on a down note. All that and more coming in this edition! Tell your friends.
Well, welcome back to the Purple Power of the South! It had been a good 11 months or so since we last really had to consider the Cru, when they lost to Hardin-Simmons last Oct. 28, and this season was a mixed bag with UMHB's most telling game being a loss to a Top 10 NAIA team. Well, that's no longer the case as the Cru went to UW-Whitewater and came away with a lot of takeaways. Eight of them, in fact. Meanwhile, Salisbury's season just keeps getting better. As the opponents have been higher and higher ranked, the Sea Gulls have won by larger and larger margins. We talk about their win against Johns Hopkins with coach Sherm Wood on Fast Five. Cortland avenged its last loss, Mount Union got by against John Carroll, and a number of teams played Division II opponents this year, but one team had the best performance, and who it is might surprise you. We'll whip you through the big games in Division III from this past weekend, catch up with the Bendokovic Bowl, visit the game that of course, had to end on a blocked field goal. Plus, who's getting it done in the 1? Who's pulling through in the 2? Who's prompting glee in the 3? Who's getting up off the floor in the 4? Who's looking alive in the 5? And, who's got something to fix in the 6? To see a list of all the teams talked about in this podcast, look at the list at the bottom of the post. Math Correspondent Logan Hansen talks about the three biggest playoff leverage games for Week 4, plus give a snapshot for how those top eight seeds are looking. Remember, my goodness, people, this is based on projection of how the season will play out and of course, teams with harder schedules might have a harder time making the top eight because they might not actually win all their games. We also hand out game balls to the top performers, pick out the stats of the week, and run through region by region to get some of the other stories you might have missed, such as the team which threw to 15 receivers this week. And since that didn't seem to be enough, Greg and Patrick have to pick one more region to tell one more story about on the fly. There's that and so much more in this week's podcast, so give it a listen! The D3football.com podcast is a weekly in-season podcast by Patrick Coleman and Greg Thomas, which was started in 2007. New episodes are published weekly during the season.
UW-Whitewater head football coach Jace Rindahl joins Wilde and Tausch as the third-ranked Warhawks prepare to host Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday at Perkins Stadium.
The NFL season is in full swing and week one was......in a word: sloppy. Disaster strikes the Packers down in Brazil while the Bears' offense doesn't stop them from a win against Tennessee. The rest of the week one matchups plus week two picks. Badgers look pedestrian against South Dakota and now prepare for Bama. Couple of closer than expected games and some upsets too. The Brewers are getting closer to a division title as the last few weeks of the season count down. A well known name from the Milwaukee Bucks history resurfaces. Week four of the high school football season and week two for UW-Whitewater. All that and more on this episode of the Intentional Foul! Tell your friends.
It's the NFL Preview edition of the Intentional Foul! We're back in Studio B for the Packers and Bears week 1 previews and all the matchups to start the season, which officially begins Thursday. Playoff teams and Super Bowl predictions to follow. The Badgers open the season in a snoozefest with Western Michigan...and the game day experience at Camp Randall is...different. The Brewers continue to have a healthy lead in the NL Central. Sign Willy Adames or let him walk...? Playoffs are right around the corner. And the White Sox are an absolutely abomination. It's already week three of the high school football season and conference play starts for all the area teams. It's also the start of the D3 football season for UW-Whitewater. Speaking of our alma mater...two tragic deaths involved current and former Warhawk athletes...both from the weekend. All that and more coming up on this near 90-minute episode. Tell your friends!

There's a bunch of serious business being done by Division III quarterbacks this offseason, as nearly four dozen of them have joined up to raise money to fight cancer as Quarterbacks vs. Cancer. There's also some light-hearted work being done by Division III football coaches, as two of them in the NJAC have joined up to fight food insecurity and battle out the proper name of a popular breakfast meat. And one more thing: The Commonwealth Coast Conference has selected a new name. They're announcing it on Aug. 1, but we found it on a website and at the 18:45 mark of this podcast we will tell you the new name. Seriously. Kudos to the sleuthiness of Dave McHugh. Quarterbacks vs. Cancer is an organization helmed by Alma quarterback Carter St. John, who thought he might only raise a few hundred dollars to support a local area cancer center, but that was just the beginning. He's joined by UW-Whitewater quarterback Jason Ceniti, Concordia-Moorhead quarterback Cooper Mattern and Carthage quarterback Bryce Lowe, plus another 40 additional Division III signal-callers. St. John, Ceniti, Mattern and Lowe join us for a great conversation. And then there's the Breakfast Bowl -- it's the brainchild of Montclair State head coach Mike Palazzo, who was looking for a way to create a rivalry game for his team and Rowan, in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. And he hit upon a breakfast meat, and if you don't know the Jersey rivalry over the name Taylor Ham or Pork Roll ... listen to this podcast. We'll get you caught up! Patrick and Greg talk about their preseason Top 25 ballots, plus we take two mailbag questions, so make sure you hear them both, and talk about the latest conference shuffle. That's not a repeat from last month's show. We had another. The D3football.com podcast is a weekly in-season podcast by Patrick Coleman and Greg Thomas, which was started in 2007. New episodes are published monthly in the offseason.

Kevin also helps Molly through her own conundrum for paying a rookie babysitter. Matt asks Kevin - a Bears fan from Downers Grove, IL - what he thinks about Jordan Love's extension limbo, and Kevin brags about his confidence in Bears QB savior Caleb Williams. Kevin also shares his favorite gambling/investment strategy of fading his hometown team, the Chicago White Sox.

Plus, there were Nazis on the UW-Whitewater campus this week. Mentioned on the show:
Twas a backyard brawl on Thursday night. I took in some high school wrestling as I watched Mounds View High School dispatch with Irondale … which are the two high schools in my school district. One is known as the sports school, the other is the band and robotics school. The sports school won 60-6. By the way, former Gopher Marty Morgan's youngest son is a 215-pounder for Mounds View and he's freaking HUGE. He's headed to South Dakota State. I was spotted in the crowd by one Mounds View parent. Was great to just watch some pretty good high school wrestling without actually working. There's some great HS wrestling kicking off today at the Walsh Ironman. Check my socials @jasonmbryant for some knowledge bombs. It's Short Time Shots, a look at the day's college wrestling scores and more, I'm your host, Hall of Fame wrestling writer and broadcaster Jason Bryant. On to the scores on the college scene from Thursday. Speaking of scoreboards, did you know you can find all the D1 dual meet scores and links to their results at collegewrestlingscoreboard.com AND I've added another redirect to help you follow all the tournaments from every division at collegewrestlingtournaments.com. Only D1 dual of the night, Michigan State improved to 4-0 after a 25-9 win over Buffalo ON THE STAGE up in New York. Buffalo did one of those theatre-style duals for the third year in a row. If you look at the dual, this one was probably closer than the score indicates as Michigan State picked up three victories that were two points or less. Still been a rough start for Buffalo this year. In Division II, Augustana (S.D.) knocked off 13th-ranked Northern State 21-13 out in the middle of South Dakota. The Vikings were ranked 18th in the most recent NWCA rankings, which is a tournament points ranking rather than a dual ranking. Augie's top-ranked Jaxson Rohman earned a major at 125 pounds, while top-ranked Wyatt Turnquist won 7-2 at 149 pounds for Northern State. Out west, San Francisco State shutout Simpson (Calif.) 41-0. In D3, second-ranked Wartburg rolled past the only non-Iowa team in the American Rivers Conference, which used to be the Iowa Conference. The Knights had five falls, the fastest coming at 197 pounds by top-ranked Mo Endene, the returning D3 champion at the weight in the 54-0 win. Third-ranked UW-Eau Claire rallied from down 14-3 after five weights and reeled off five straight W's to oust rival UW-Whitewater 25-14. Whitewater did pick up the dual's most notable win as ninth-ranked Dominick Mallinder bounced top-ranked Tyler Fleetwood 7-1 at 133 pounds. 20th-ranked Millikin topped Aurora 23-17. Bonus points were the difference for the Big Blue as three of the wins were bonus victories including falls by Coby Haney at 133 and Nathan Callaway at 157. Also in the CCIW, Elmhurst edged Concordia Wisconsin 24-23. Roanoke beat Shenandoah 43-4 out in my home state of Virginia. Three bonus victories were the difference for Loras as they topped Cornell College 21-19 in a matchup of Iowa schools. In the NAIA, Montana State-Northern rallied to beat Dickinson State 32-16, while No. 11 Providence (Mont.) beat Eastern Oregon 28-15. Top-ranked Hunter Sparks of Eastern Oregon got a fall in that one at 125 pounds. The Evergreen State College earned its first win, topping Grays Harbor College 50-3. Evergreen's mascot? The GEODUCKS. What is a Geoduck? Well, it's the largest burrowing clam in the world, native to the coastal waters of the Pacific. Makes sense, Evergreen is in Washington. Grays Harbor is too, just a mile or two from the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah. Some of you will get the reference. On the women's side, fourth ranked Colorado Mesa torched Texas Woman's University 44-5, and Adams State 45-4. UW-Stevens Point topped Wartburg 30-13 in the first home dual in school history for the new women's program at Wartburg. Minot State was a winner over Dakota Wesleyan 27-16. Evergreen's women also picked up a W, beating Grays Harbor 34-8. Shout outs to our latest Mat Talk patrons, Warrior Coach and KBnoswag. Subscribe, for free, to my Daily Wrestling News. Yep, that's correct. You see the colors above, and nary a Purple Power to be found. No more UW-Whitewater, no Mount Union, and of course, none of those other prominent purple powerhouses that failed to make the field. Instead, you've got the familiar red of North Central, plus Cortland as actual Red Dragons, along with the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon and the orange of Wartburg. These teams got here through a pretty fantastic quarterfinal round, and Patrick and Greg talk about it all. We sit down with DeAngelo Hardy of North Central after his amazing day where he filled the stat sheet in ways you wouldn't imagine possible in one person. Keith McMillan makes another return to the podcast and chats with Mitchell Johnson and Nick Hale, two of the four key running backs for Randolph-Macon. Zac Boyes talks about finding his receiver wide open on a key play that broke the Cortland game at Alma wide open, and Wartburg's Hunter Clasen talks about catching the game-winning touchdown pass against UW-Whitewater. Plus, our listener question: What does each team need to do defensively this week in order to succeed? The first month of the Division III basketball season is nearly complete. What have we learned? What do we know about teams? Anything? Monday night on Hoopsville, we chat with two coaches with programs who have gained a strong foothold on the season, Tufts men and UW-Whitewater women. Plus we chat with some of our pundits on how they have seen the opening month play out. Any surprises? Any teams we should be focusing on? We also find out who they are voting for in the last D3hoops.com Top 25 polls. Guests appearing on the Hudl Hoopsville Hotline: - Bob Quillman, "Q-Cast" host - Matt Snyder, "D3 Datacast" co-host - Brandon Linton, No. 23 Tufts men's coach - Keri Carollo, No. 6 UW-Whitewater women's coach Hoopsville is presented by D3hoops.com.
We used to do this preview podcasts all the time, before life and day jobs interfered. But it's great to get back in the saddle, and do some longer interviews in this edition of the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast. Founding co-host Keith McMillan sits down for an in-depth conversation with Randolph-Macon coach Pedro Arruza as his team gets ready to take on Johns Hopkins in the quarterfinals. Arruza's career as a head coach at Randolph-Macon has now reached 20 seasons, and that's something considering he almost didn't get past year No. 3. Keith and Pedro talk about that, plus what drove Arruza to become a head coach, and much more. Patrick Coleman sits down with Alma quarterback Carter St. John. Yes, he joined us for Fast Five in 345 and talked about the final drive at Mount Union, but this is a new conversation about how St. John came to Alma rather than backing up a D-III quarterback you have definitely heard of at another school in the region. Plus, how far the kilt wearing has spread on the team, and whether a name like Carter St. John really lends itself to a fine clothing line. (Psst, it does.) We also chat with Curt Fitzpatrick, who is bringing his Cortland team to Alma this upcoming weekend. You'll hear about the Red Dragons' unexpected itinerary, plus get an early look at how Cortland quarterback Zac Boyes compares to St. John. Fitzpatrick also talks about the difference between his team's two very different playoff performances so far in this bracket. And we wrap up our conversations with UW-Whitewater cornerback and Gagliardi Trophy semifinalist Egon Hein. He talks about playing for a new head coach and a new defensive coordinator, ones who are hardly new to the program at all, as well as what it's like to play in front of all those people at Perkins Stadium, preparing for the Nameless Gray Face on the opposing side this week, playing with his brother, and much more. Plus, Trevor Castle brought us a great question: How did North Central get to this dominant position, and who are the programs that are poised to make that next step themselves? Milfred and Hands interview Sen. Rob Hutton, R-Brookfield, chair of the Senate Committee on Universities. The UW-Whitewater grad and southeast Wisconsin businessman talks about streamlining the Universities of Wisconsin with a smaller footprint, funding UW-Madison's new engineering building and encouraging free speech on campus. Unlike some of his Republican colleagues who are quick to bash higher education, Hutton calls UW system a "beacon for the state" with "tremendous economic impact." UW-Madison Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin is "a real asset," Hutton tells our podcasters. "It's hard to argue with what UW-Madison produces." Milfred and Hands marvel at the upbeat tone while highlighting Hutton's status as a swing-seat incumbent in suburban Milwaukee. He lost his Assembly seat by just 700 votes in 2020, only to win a Senate race two years later. "If we had more competitive seats," Milfred concludes, "we'd have more Rob Huttons."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Watching football at the bar? Lot of excellent opinions there! It's how we kick off this episode of the Intentional Foul as the dynamic duo is back together. Plenty of material today... The Packers beat the Rams in a bad display of football. The Bears lose to the Saints and Tyson Bagent wasn't good. Why is QB play terrible in the league? Week 9 results plus week 10 previews. The Badgers are coming off a bad loss to Indiana and have yet to be bowl eligible...and is Wisconsin in trouble going forward with the addition of the PAC teams? In baseball, the Cubs overpay Craig Counsell to get him 90 minutes south of Milwaukee. Opinions vary. The Bucks are 5-2 and have had a number of close wins. College hoops started this week for Marquette and the Badgers. High school basketball starts next week as does our broadcast schedule. And the UW-Whitewater football team wraps up its conference schedule Saturday with playoffs on the horizon. All that more over the next hour-plus. Tell your friends.
UW-Whitewater and UW-River Falls met in another of the big battles that should determine who goes to the playoffs out of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, whether it's one, two or three teams. And even though one of the most decorated offensive players on the field was held in check -- not to mention off the field -- for the vast majority of the game, River Falls still had a shot at the end. We chat with UW-Whitewater coach Jace Rindahl about his team, his fired-up sideline demeanor, his decision to start going for two in the second quarter and more in this week's podcast. And Matt Walker of UW-River Falls talks about what's still there for his Falcons to accomplish. But there's more ... This edition of the podcast is sponsored by d3photography.com, the licensed photography bureau contracted by D3sports.com. It was a big week for dreams getting crushed just a little bit as well this week. Washington U. had designs on getting into the D3football.com Top 25 (they were already ranked in the coaches poll) but fell at home to Augustana. Carleton fans were looking for a little respect up at St. John's after a 5-0 start. And King's took down Lebanon Valley, which had been riding high ever since Week 1 against Franklin & Marshall. Plus, who got a game ball out of the CCIW? And the NESCAC? What were the interesting stats of the week, and who was having fun in Region 1, pulling through in Region 2, what's to see in the 3, who's looking for more in the 4, showin' some drive in the 5 and got something to fix in the 6? Plus, how are the Top 25 voters looking at Hardin-Simmons? Patrick and Greg tackle that and more in this week's podcast. It seems there can be little doubt that Division III football is at its best on a Saturday afternoon when the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is playing its conference games. They might draw 20,000-plus fans, they might go to double overtime, but whatever the weekend, it always seems at least one or two of the games is going to be entertaining, if not epic. But Division III is also at its best when it is forward-looking and innovative. When a university for the Deaf and hard of hearing can work with AT&T on a project to help level the playing field for a team that finds it hard to call plays. We ask Gallaudet coach Chuck Goldstein about how well the new 5G helmet worked for his team in their win against Hilbert, plus we talk about much more in the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast. This edition of the podcast is sponsored by d3photography.com, the licensed photography bureau contracted by D3sports.com. Yes, UW-La Crosse came away with a great win at UW-Whitewater, shaking off a losing streak to the Warhawks that had reached 19 games. We talk about the Eagles' new wrinkles on offense and their quality defensive performance as well. Plus, Ithaca finally won a Liberty League game at RPI, and we hear from Ithaca quarterback A.J. Wingfield about that. And we look at the strange way that the Hardin-Simmons at McMurry game came to an end. We also hand out game balls, pick out our stats of the week, answer reader questions, predict winners for some of next week's games and highlight the big ones coming up in Week 7. We're on to week 2 of the Runner of the Week Awards. This week we came across a duo from UW-Whitewater that crossed the finish line at basically the same time. It was a fun night for Trinity (Texas) fans in San Antonio, and the same for fans of Eastern on a rainy night in Philadelphia. Oberlin got a losing streak out of the way, King's looks good at 2-0, Susquehanna got a win off of the Brockport bullpen, and UW-Whitewater followed a Week 1 statement […] The post ATN Podcast 333: A little fun under the lights appeared first on D3football.com » D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast.
It's the final episode before a long hiatus of a cohost of the Intentional Foul...and it's the first show in almost a month! A lot to go over including training camps (finally) for the Packers and Bears plus their first preseason games. The Blind Side apparently is not what it seems. In college football, expansion has taken a trip to crazy town...and it's not over. The Brewers are still in first in the division but are their days in Milwaukee numbered?! Orioles announcer does job: gets suspended. Giannis won't play in the FIBA World Cup and Team USA puts up a strong exhibition showing. UW-Whitewater football is going through its training camp and the first high school football games are in a few days. All that and more coming up on this edition! Tell your friends.
We don't delve into the world of college football often but — with Lance Leipold — it's time to make an exception. Because if this man can turn Kansas Football around, there will be statues. The more you learn about Leipold, the more it sounds like he's the coach this team has been searching for all these years. Our Wisconsin readers no doubt remember Leipold's absurd dominance at UW-Whitewater. Nobody won more often. Our Buffalo readers will fondly recall his work rebuilding the UB Bulls into a conference power. Everywhere he goes, Lance Leipold fixes things. Last season, the Jayhawks made their first bowl game since 2008. How? It's all rooted in a true passion for the sport. Our full conversation can be heard at the embed above and everywhere you access your podcasts, including Apple and Spotify. This week we catch up with Nick Kruml to talk about his time bowling at UW-Whitewater and his USBC Open Championships. We discuss why he chose Whitewater and advice he has for other high school bowlers looking to bowl in college. We talk about his performance in Reno from how he prepared, to where he played the lanes, to how much he watched the live scoring.
