In this episode, we delve into the theme of improving the capacity of local churches, using the UMC Mountain Sky Conference as a case study. This is a continuation in part of a conversation Zach and I had in September (HERE). Please share if this resonates with you! Joined by guests Gayla Jo Slauson (Mountain Sky Co-Lay Leader), Mark Calhoun (Wyoming District Superintendent), and Zach Bechtold (Pastor, Bozeman (MT) UMC), the conversation explores how church dynamics can be a mix of tradition and innovation. Zach hosts the discussion and I join the panel for discussion. We share insights into leadership roles, with a focus on collaborative opportunities and how lay-led churches can grow and thrive. A continuation to work on clearly emerges. The discussion also touches on the practical aspects of church management, like finances and resources, and the importance of keeping focus amid distractions. With perspectives from both rural and urban churches, the panelists discuss the challenges and opportunities within church communities, emphasizing the necessity of a clear mission and vision. The episode highlights the vital need for clarity and adaptability in navigating the complex landscape of modern church life. Draft paper I mention in the show is HERE. Those that have heard me speak at Annual Conference are probably not surprised that I am a believer when it comes to the positive net benefit from the conference. In Romans 15, Paul wants the church to know that now is the time for the gospel to go forth to the nations. With that premise, there are seven things we see in this passage about local churches and their participation in global missions. 1. Local churches are expected to participate in global missions.2. Missions and ministry requires money.3. Local churches should seek to be a blessing to missionaries.4. Local churches should be eager to minister to the poor and those in need, especially believers.5. Gentile Christians should keep a proper perspective on the Jewish people.6. We should be earnestly praying for our missionaries. 7. Everything we do is for the glory of God.

There is a debate among Christians regarding the definition and manifestation of the organism called -church.- -Some Baptists believe in the universal and local churches. Others believe there is no universal church- only local churches. -I have friends on both side of the issue. It is not a doctrine that I break fellowship over.-We must look to the Scriptures to settle the debate.
This month, our COSILoveYou Podcast builds from last month's episode by taking a look at what two local churches are doing to impact and support nearby schools. Missions Talk — A podcast by 9Marks and Reaching & Teaching International Ministries
In this episode of Missions Talk, Mack and Ryan interview Miller and Caleb Greggsen about the relationship between missionaries and sending churches.
Difficult conversations in churches are…well, difficult. Most of us simply aren't taught how to disagree or discuss hard things in the context of faith within the church. One of the most difficult conversations a church can journey through is a conversation on LGBTQ inclusivity. Since there are typically a lot of theological perspectives, lived experiences and long held beliefs, this conversation in particular can get heated very quickly. Because many denominations are having conversation like this, being clear and honest in messaging regarding LGBTQ affirmation is crucial for churches. Over the last few years, we have received a lot of questions about this very process. What was it like to have a conversation on inclusivity in a local church? What did you actually do, talk about, and how? What did you learn along the way? In this episode, we dive into the process of what that was like for our local church, and we hope our story helps if your local church congregation is discussing inclusivity soon. We have so many friends on all sides of this topic, so we enter this dialogue very gently and do our best to approach this discussion with gentleness and compassion. We know from this experience that conversations like this are hard and can be hurtful to all involved because church family is just that…family. Our aim for this podcast is to really sit in the difficulty of how hard the process of having this conversation was and to give thoughts and suggestions from our experience that are helpful to others. This isn't an episode on the theology of affirmation or a deep dive on scripture passages. If that is what you are looking for, then we suggest listening to episodes 32-35.
