Just when we thought we had exhausted our language and usage outrage, we stumble upon a new wave of pronunciation changes that has crept up and caught us napping in our rocking chairs. So that's the big news, but we also have Snappers, more from the world of Artificial Intelligence, some food reports from nearby eateries we've visited, another car oil change PSA, an introduction to Lifting Straps (which given our demographic I initially thought might be just sock garters, but thankfully not), and discussion with KJ about his recent very successful turn as Kris Kringle in the Arts Club Theatre production of “Miracle on 34th Street”. There is other stuff too, but that last sentence has worn us right out, so just go ahead and have a listen and let us know what you thought, how you're doing, and what you'd love to hear about from us.Links: Shed Dogs; Bobby Fingers; Yum! CBS News political contributors Terry Sullivan and Joel Payne join "CBS Mornings" to share their expectations for the new year in politics, including the 2024 presidential election, and what issues will matter most to voters. It's been a lean year for bears in Japan. A dry summer has left them with little to eat in the country's forests, so they have become bold and ventured into environments closer to humans. Bears have also moved into rural areas as humans leave them, causing a bear resurgence. All this has led to a record-high number of bear attacks. CBS News' Elizabeth Palmer speaks with a biologist studying this phenomenon. The long snapper is a position in football that is widely unknown, yet it's one of the most important. A 1970s travelling exhibition in Cardiff of photographs by Henri Cartier-Bresson made Robin Weaver want to be a documentary photographer. After six years he broadened his horizons – travelling to the USA and Australia where he worked for the Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian. How to Catch Jumbo Vermilion Snappers-Revisited

Good Karma Sportfishing

In this podcast, I share how to catch jumbo size vermilion snappers, a popular game fish known for their vibrant color and delicious taste. Catching jumbo-sized vermilion snappers requires a unique approach that differs from the traditional fishing methods. Vermilion snapper, also known as B-liner, is a species that's sustainably managed and responsibly harvested under U.S. regulations. They're known for their rosy-red color above, fading to pinkish then whitish below, with red fins and large eyes. Vermilion Snappers can reach up to 24 inches (60 centimeters), usually weighing about 6 pounds, although it's more common to catch smaller ones. Contrary to popular belief, using large baits does not necessarily attract large vermilion snappers. Instead, I emphasizes a specific method that I shared a few years ago to catch jumbo-sized vermilion and big yellow eye snappers in high pressured areas. I shared this technique a few years back and the fisherman that are not afraid of change are now catching jumbo size size vermilion and big yellow eye snappers in high pressured areas. Here's how it works: Submit your ideas (as many as you would like) here.Deadline: Saturday, February 4. Prize: We'll choose the best, most fun name from the entries. Jay Baer,  the second most popular tequila influencer in the world, will send the winner a bottle of tequila from his personal stash. We'll also promote you in our newsletter, on an episode of Sound Judgment, in our show notes and on our social channels. Don't wait! Jay Baer Hall of Fame keynote speaker Jay Baer has lost count of the number of podcasts he has produced and hosted. He is also a New York Times bestselling author of six books and founder of five multi-million dollar companies. Filled with real-world case studies, Jay's programs teach companies how to turn customer experience, customer service, and marketing into their biggest business growth advantage. Jay has advised Caterpillar, Nike, IBM, Allstate, The United Nations, and 32 of the FORTUNE 500. He is the founder of Convince & Convert, a strategy consulting firm that owns the world's #1 content marketing blog and the world's top marketing podcast. Click on the stars to rate; click on “Write a Review” to tell us what you think! Takeaways from this episode1. Your story could be worth millions of dollars. Why aren't you analyzing what makes it good? Like the typical podcast host, the typical speaker—no matter how successful— doesn't know why their material is good. They're just operating on instinct. Which also means you don't know how to improve your work. As Jay said, a good keynote speaker tells the same story many, many different times a year, often for several years. As he says, that means their “signature story” could be worth millions and millions of dollars. He's dumbfounded by the lack of insight most speakers have about these extraordinarily valuable stories. “To not know how or why it's good, or how it's gotten better over time, is amazing,” he says. That's one reason he started Standing Ovation and a big reason why I started Sound Judgment and am on a quest to identify the universal skills of hostiness. While you're not likely to make millions directly from your podcast, if you use it as the linchpin of your business or your social impact organization, you could count its value in the millions. That's just one of many superb reasons to keep learning. Dissect your own episodes, on your own or with a guide. Also, deconstruct podcasts you love. You'll learn a ton and your work will become far more valuable in the process.  2. Bob Ross had it right. Remember the painting instructor on PBS? Millions of people watched his show, because he instructed while he painted pictures – and made the process understandable through example. Jay Baer loves what I call “living case studies” because they do what Bob Ross did – they entertain while they inform. Everybody tuning into a show like Standing Ovation, or Bob Ross, envisions themselves practicing the craft themselves. It's vicarious, which is fun, and inspiring. And, as Jay says, if you're asking someone to invest their very precious time listening to your show, “you darn well better both entertain them and improve them in some way.” That's especially true for business, personal development, and educational shows of all kinds. 3. When and why should you tell a personal story, if your podcast isn't personal? Say you run a podcast for small business owners, fitness enthusiasts, or fly fishermen? There are two tests: Is it relevant to your ideal listener? Can you tie a lesson back to the topic at hand? Two, does it elicit an emotion? As Jay said, if you barrage listeners with one piece of data after another, they won't remember it. But they will remember how you make them feel, as Maya Angelou so famously said. 4. Name your listeners! It's a great way to create a community. When we're identified by a name we feel good about, we feel like we've made it into a special club. It's a metaphorical shirt we can put on.  Glynn Washington calls Snap Judgment listeners Snappers; Jay calls his Standing Ovation listeners Clappers. What should I call you? What metaphorical shirt do you want to wear?We are running a contest, inspired by Jay. Whomever comes up with the best, most fun name for yourself and your fellow listeners will get a bottle of tequila from Jay's personal stash. That's really cool, because in addition to being a marketing guru, Jay is the second most popular tequila influencer in the world. Here's the link again to enter. Submit your ideas now. The deadline is Saturday, February 4, 2023. Winners will get a shoutout in our newsletter, on the podcast and in our social channels. Credits Sound Judgment is a production of Podcast Allies, LLC. Host: Elaine Appleton GrantProject Manager: Tina BassirSound Design and Audio Editing: Andrew ParellaIllustrator: Sarah Edgell

The 2nd call of the month is Q & A (approx. 2 weeks later so you can use the teachings) where questions will be in the chat and 1 per person pending group size and time (approx.. an hour). The questions are to be relation to the topic. Will also have a FB Group and Voxer for community and support. If you wish to be in 1 and 2- there is a savings of $30. So, it's $299 a month or Pay in Full (PIF) for a year is $3,229.00 which is a 10% discount. I do not offer refunds due to the nature of the material. And as with any coaching program, you are responsible to show up and for your results, which will vary. My groups are supportive and not about Ego. It's for learning, having fun, releasing stress, and building community. If that sounds like you, you will be a great fit! It's not about the size of your boat or even having boat, I fished the majority of my life without a boat and am very proud of that. Questions? Email me at goodkarmaryan@gmail.com. Again- I am super excited about this next level and hope to see you in the crew! Anytime you're fishing it's all good! Capt. Ryan

Being a long snapper in the NFL is one of the stranger jobs in all of sports. You spend your time hunched over, trying to throw perfect spirals backwards and between your legs -- in high pressure situations – and no one really knows about you or cares about you unless something goes terribly, horribly wrong. Sports Illustrated's Alex Prewitt recently went down the long snapping rabbit hole, and today he takes us into the upside-down world of these men – a world filled with quirky perfectionists, a lot of down time, and the desire to finally get the respect they feel they deserve.Read Alex Prewitt's full story:https://www.si.com/nfl/2022/11/16/inside-economics-evolution-politics-of-long-snappers-daily-coverSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Boyer is a former Green Beret in the US Army who learned to long snap, from the ground up, as a 30-year-old in order to fulfill his dream of starting for the University of Texas Longhorns football team. Gammon played 218 straight games during his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, and Kansas City Chiefs, and is one of the best long snappers in NFL history.Chapter 6: Someone needs to catch those tight spirals. This is an inside look at the holder position through Bryan Barker who had a 16-year NFL career as a holder and punter for teams including the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Philadelphia Eagles. He held for both Nick Lowery (Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets), and Eddie Murray (Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles) who are not only featured in this series but who also required very different holding techniques from Barker. When E.T. walked across the screen and into the hearts of moviegoers everywhere, that lovable space alien who wanted to “phone home” needed a sound for its walk. Foley artists, the sound magicians who add special effects to movies, decided to use a bag of jello in a damp T-shirt. Indeed, a Foley artist is nothing but ingenious. Snappers, clackers, ka-chunkers, sha-shonkers and things that go “ronk” are just a few things you might find in their toolbox, along with celery — good for broken bones — or paperclips on gloves to imitate a cat walking down the hall. We'll learn about these tricks of the trade from some of the world's best Foley artists at Skywalker Sound in Marin. Guests: Anna Wiener, contributing writer, The New Yorker - She is the author of the memoir "Uncanny Valley." Her most recent piece for the New Yorker is titled "Noisemakers." Shelley Roden, Foley artist, Skywalker Sound - Roden has worked as a Foley artist for over 25 years, and has worked on "Black Panther," "Top Gun: Maverick," "Soul," "Turning Red," and hundreds of other films. Scott Curtis, Foley Mixer, Curtis has mixed sound for a variety of movies including "Titanic," "Team America" and "Black Panther."
