On This Episode:A LESSON FROM A TREE FALLINGA tree fell in my yard. It elevated some thoughts in me about neighborliness and the blessing of our health.ABUNDANCE vs. AUSTERITYMy entire life, it was the Right that argued for more abundance and Leftism saying we all needed to get by with less. I have some example about how that paradigm is changing as well as asking, "for the Christian, which (abundance or frugality) should be emphasize?PRESCRIPTION EXECUTIVE ORDERThe President says he's going to enforce price controls on pharmaceuticals. Is that a good idea?
Luke miiiiiight have thrown away his driver's license at a gas station in Central Washington this week. So that's not good. He and Andrew also take a very bizarre stroll down memory lane to revisit some of the many, many ads they recorded while they were with their old podcast network.
In this explosive live episode, Courtenay Turner will unravel the ideological undercurrents of Game~B-a movement positioning itself as a decentralized, pluralistic alternative to modern civilization's “rivalrous systems” while advancing a technocratic vision steeped in Hegelian dialectics and Leftist teleology. Framed as a “post-political” solution to societal collapse, Game~B's fusion of blockchain networks, AI-driven collective intelligence, and utopian rhetoric mirrors the Marxist critique of alienation-yet proposes a technological “Omega Point” eerily aligned with H.G. Wells' World Brain, Teilhard de Chardin's noosphere, and the Dark Enlightenment's war on “The Cathedral”.Key Themes:1: Game~B's Hegelian Roots:• How Game~B's critique of “Game~A” (neoliberal capitalism) recycles Marxist resentment of civilizational “rivalry” while rebranding collectivism as decentralized network states.• Its vision of “emergent coherence” through blockchain and AI mirrors Wells' call for a “permanent World Encyclopedia” and Teilhard's noospheric convergence, fulfilling Leftism's transcendent aspirations without overt coercion.2: The Phoenix Agenda:• Bret Weinstein's call to “Phoenix the Republic” and Jim Rutt's musings on “burning down” civilization's operating system evoke Operation Phoenix's CIA-orchestrated “creative destruction.” Is this a blueprint for controlled collapse?• Parallels to Hesse's Glass Bead Game: Will Game~B's “membranes” of self-organizing networks prioritize spiritual elitism over democratic accountability?3: Technocratic Singularity:• SingularityNET's decentralized AI market and optimal incentives for collective intelligence promise cooperation-but could entrench algorithmic governance.• Teilhard's Omega Point meets Silicon Valley: Is Game~B a secular rapture for the “Cognitariat,” leveraging blockchain to bypass nation-states?4: Leftism in Right-Wing Clothing:• James Lindsay's analysis of Leftist “Manichean telos” finds new expression in Game~B's romanticization of indigenous systems and Aquarian-age rhetoric.• Dark Enlightenment critiques of “The Cathedral” are co-opted to legitimize a post-democratic tech aristocracy. Join Courtenay as she dissects whether Game~B is humanity's salvation-or a Trojan Horse for a digitized Neo-Feudalism. Can decentralized networks transcend ideological capture, or will they amplify the very rivalries they claim to solve? Is the Phoenix a symbol of renewal-or a Tavistock-approved psyop? Tune in for a no-holds-barred exploration of civilization's next OS. __________________________________________________________________ ▶ GET On-Demand Access for Courtenay's Cognitive Liberty Conference Cognitive liberty Conference ----------------------------------------- ▶ Follow & Connect with Courtenay: CourtenayTurner.com Linktree ▶ Support my work & Affiliate links: Buy Me A Coffee GiveSendGo Venmo Cash APP RNC Store Vitamin B-17! In yesterday's show, the neuroscientist Leor Zmigrod explained how radical ideology is infecting our brains. Today, Unite America executive director Nick Troiano explains how the American democratic system is empowering radicals in both parties. In The Primary Solution, Troiano argues that party primaries give disproportionate influence to political extremes, with 90% of elections being decided in primaries where few people participate. Troiano advocates for open primaries that allow all voters to participate regardless of party affiliation, citing Alaska's reform which combine open primaries with ranked-choice voting as a model solution. FIVE TAKEAWAYS* The primary election system in America gives disproportionate influence to political fringes, as 90% of elections are effectively decided in primaries where few people participate.* In 16 states, independent voters (about 16 million Americans) are locked out of taxpayer-funded primaries, meaning they cannot participate in elections that often determine the final outcome.* Five states (Nebraska, Louisiana, California, Washington, and Alaska) have already abolished party primaries for state or federal elections, implementing various alternative systems.* Troiano advocates for the Alaska model, which combines an open all-candidate primary with instant runoff elections, allowing all voters to participate regardless of party affiliation.* Structural reform at the state level is more achievable than national reform, as the Constitution allows states to set the "time, place, and manner" of their elections without requiring constitutional amendments.Nick Troiano is the founding executive director of Unite America, a philanthropic venture fund that invests in nonpartisan election reform to foster a more representative and functional government. Since 2019, Unite America has invested over $50 million to help win three major statewide ballot initiatives and over a dozen state legislative and municipal policy victories. In 2014, Troiano ran for the US House of Representatives in Pennsylvania's 10th District and was both the youngest candidate of the cycle and the most competitive independent Congressional candidate nationally in over two decades. Nick earned both his BA and MA in American government from Georgetown University and, as an undergraduate, cofounded an endowed Social Innovation and Public Service Fund. He regularly provides commentary to a range of media outlets on topics of democracy and politics, and he has been featured in three documentaries: Follow the Leader, Broken Eggs, and Unrepresented. He lives in Denver, Colorado.Named as one of the "100 most connected men" by GQ magazine, Andrew Keen is amongst the world's best known broadcasters and commentators. In addition to presenting the daily KEEN ON show, he is the host of the long-running How To Fix Democracy interview series. For Black History Month, we are going back through the archives and listening to the voices of some of the incredible Black Women who have been on the show.Prolific author and speaker, Lisa Sharon Harper, joins us this week, speaking about how we are all made in God's image and called good, and how often we forget that - about ourselves and about each other. She shares her journey of discovering what the “very good Gospel” is and offers that good news to us, inviting us into the vision God has for the world, and a profound belief that God's peace is possible.About LisaFrom Ferguson to New York, and from Germany to South Africa to Australia, Lisa Sharon Harper leads trainings that increase clergy and community leaders' capacity to organize people of faith toward a just world. A prolific speaker, writer and activist, Ms. Harper is the founder and president of FreedomRoad.us, a consulting group dedicated to shrinking the narrative gap in our nation by designing forums and experiences that bring common understanding, common commitment and common action. She hosts the podcast Freedom Road which features guests who are leaders in the faith and justice movement.Ms. Harper is the author of several books, including Evangelical Does Not Equal Republican…or Democrat (The New Press, 2008); Left Right and Christ: Evangelical Faith in Politics (Elevate, 2011); Forgive Us: Confessions of a Compromised Faith (Zondervan, 2014); and the critically acclaimed, The Very Good Gospel: How Everything Wrong can be Made Right (Waterbrook, a division of Penguin Random House, 2016). The Very Good Gospel, recognized as the “2016 Book of the Year” by Englewood Review of Books, explores God's intent for the wholeness of all relationships in light of today's headlines. Her most recent book, Fortune: How Race Broke My Family and the World--and How to Repair It All, draws on her lifelong journey to know her family's history, exposes the brokenness that race has wrought in America, and casts a vision for collective repair.Connect with us!Donate today and support our work!Sign up to receive a little Gospel in your inbox every Monday Morning with our weekly devotional.Join our FREE bookclubCheck out our website for various resources - including devotionals, journaling prompts, and even curriculumGet some Lady Preacher Podcast swag!Connect with us on Instagram and Facebook
In this episode of The Open Door, panelists Thomas Storck, Andrew Sorokowski, and Christopher Zehnder interview Hyrum Lewis on the Left/Right Binary. Can you explain the thesis of your book? Why do you speak of the Left and Right as being a myth? How did you come to see through the Left/Right binary? Given some of the obvious counter-examples to the prevailing narrative, why is it so established and powerful? Intellectual laziness? Vested interests? cf. p. 64ff.Is part of the problem the fact that political scientists, by and large, do not see themselves as concerned with ideas as such, but with political behavior and data as raw material for scientific analysis, much like chemists studying the reactions of chemical elements? Are you familiar with the Nolan chart? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nolan_Chart Do you see that as much of an improvement? If we are to make use of any kind of political typologies, how do we deal with the fact that people can hold similar or identical views on the same issue but for very different reasons? Cf. pp. 63, 88ff.Does it make sense, in your opinion, to speak more in terms of broad philosophic-political movements and perhaps with those movements we could speak of left or right? E.g., socialism, fascism, classical liberalism, etc.As American politics descends into a battle of anger and hostility between two groups called "left" and "right," people increasingly ask: What is the essential difference between these two ideological groups? In The Myth of Left and Right, Hyrum Lewis and Verlan Lewis provide the surprising answer: nothing. As the authors argue, there is no enduring philosophy, disposition, or essence uniting the various positions associated with the liberal and conservative ideologies of today. Far from being an eternal dividing line of American politics, the political spectrum came to the United States in the 1920s and, since then, left and right have evolved in so many unpredictable and even contradictory ways that there is currently nothing other than tribal loyalty holding together the many disparate positions that fly under the banners of "liberal" and "conservative." Powerfully argued and cutting against the grain of most scholarship on polarization in America, this book shows why the idea that the political spectrum measures deeply held worldviews is the central political myth of our time and a major cause of the confusion and vitriol that characterize public discourse.https://www.amazon.com/Myth-Left-Right-Verlan-Lewis/dp/0197680623

What if I told you the left-right political spectrum was an illusion? What if I told you there is no “left” or “right”? My guest is Hyrum Lewis, co-author of The Myth of Left and Right: How the Political Spectrum Misleads and Harms America. They argue that we've embraced a simplistic, faulty idea of an essential “left/liberalism” and an essential “right/conservatism.” And that, similar to embracing a faulty medical idea (like the old theory of the four humors), embracing a faulty political theory has hurt us in major ways. For one thing, it creates a perception that instead of there being many different issues, there is just a single issue (left versus right) and that choosing the right “team” gains you access to all the right ideas. Embracing that concept in turn amplifies conflict and anger, by making our divides seem like a war between two set and essential ideologies. It makes it easier to embrace a good-versus-bad way of seeing our political divides. Topics include: why Hyrum believes the left-right spectrum is an illusion; common objections to their idea; how persuasive political thinkers have found their idea; the ways in which language and foundational concepts can amplify divides; the horseshoe theory; ways we might speak and write in better ways about our political disagreements, and more. Across the world, the Left, Right, and the Centre are being devastated by populism. Of course, it is customised for different nations, electorates, and societies. The beauty, charm, and success of populism lies in its ease of use, in how little it demands from your head or heart, wisdom or conscience. It is unencumbered by morality, carries no weight of history, and isn't confused by facts. Watch this week's #NationalInterest with ThePrint Editor-in-chief Shekhar Gupta

Welcome to Meaning-Making 101 where we explore the crisis of meaning in our world today, and how we may help usher in an awakening from it. In this episode we cover the shocking admission recently made by hosts of The Young Turks, Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uyger, that they were wrong! Not only that, an olive leaf is offered to populists across the political spectrum, from conservatives to libertarians to independents, liberals and progressives, with the encouragement that we MUST work together if we are to overcome the deep corruption of our government and political parties by corporate interests. Today we steer away from creativity and dive into a conversation about this year's election! Political stances, left, right, middle and everything in between has taken a lot of energy from all of us and we felt it important to not try to ignore the elephant in the room (see what I did there?) We here at Around The Reel have different views on a lot of things however, it's our differences that make us what we are as a team of filmmakers and creatives! That's what makes us special! And that respect makes us family. And even though we see things differently doesn't mean anything other than that! Our differences are our strength! Bottom line. So please... enjoy our discussion on this week's episode of Around The Reel!

Perhaps the key to living a full life is to live many lives. On this episode of The Bridge, Travis Haley sits down with Jon Chang, the visionary behind Black Powder Red Earth—a visceral graphic novel narrative with it's own video and table top board game that reflects the inner mechanisms and complexity of modern military scenarios—and the founder of The Dread and Fear of Kings, a luxury men's wear label with a mission-driven focus. Jon's journey is tightly woven with Travis'. Both played crucial roles in developing Magpul Dynamics, where they redefined tactics, training and product innovation. When Travis left to establish Haley Strategic, Jon was right there with him, helping to shape the brand's foundation and direction. This episode delves into Jon's unique approach to storytelling and design, how his tactical expertise informed the creation of BPRE, and how that same precision and purpose is evident in his apparel line. Don't miss this conversation between two pioneers discussing the evolution of design within our industry and community.

What does it mean to be a Christian Social Democrat? Can one be pro-life and align with the political left? How Christian is American Christendom or a Trumpified Evangelicalism? Has contemporary American Christendom shaken your own faith? We asked these questions and discussed a great deal more with the brilliant writer, Elizabeth Bruenig. We discuss the rightward political shift in Europe, reflected in both the recent EU election results, and the rise of Nigel Farage's Reform party in the UK this week. Jen gives her prediction that Marine Le Pen will win the French election, and explains why it is in part due to tactical errors of the Left. Plus, how Nigel Farage is pitching himself as the U.K. Trump, making voting Reform seem like a protest vote against the political establishment, in a way not totally dissimilar to Brexit. We put forward that due to the Global North not providing an alternative vision to the status-quo, many are looking to the political Right for change. Increasingly, this is within the context of globalisation vs anti-globalisation / nationalism replacing the traditional political Left / Right dichotomy. More widely, the disintegration of societal institutions has made the ‘outsiderism' of Trotskyism, critical theory, and nerd Millennial culture, deeply unpopular. The backlash to the evaporation of social fabric is that being a ‘normie' is becoming cool, and that it's a sign of superiority to have the hallmarks of social institutions like marriage and religion, given their cultural disavowal and decline. Japan has led the way ahead of us in terms of social trends, such as celibacy, and their housing crisis arriving before ours. Japan's political landscape is one where the younger generations are the most conservative, with older generations being more politically liberal or radical, a situation that is also likely our future.
President Biden has been in Europe this week attending the G7 Summit. The Democrats are drifting radically to the left whereas the Conservative movement has remained relatively consistent. The sharp divide in this country is not due to the Conservatives. The divide is because the Democrats have embraced radical ideologies. Episode 10 of Fragile Juggernaut surveys the wide range of workers who united–and sometimes fought each other–under the banner of the CIO. We begin in the slaughterhouse, with special guest Rick Halpern explaining how the United Packinghouse Workers of America (PWOC/UPWA) brought together black and white workers despite segregation inside and outside the workplace. Then, the hosts discuss two of the largest CIO unions: the United Steel Workers (USWA/SWOC) and the United Electrical, Radio, and Machine Workers (UE). These two unions are often thought of, respectively, as emblematic of the “right” and “left” wings of the CIO. But what does that mean? And why did these two unions develop the way they did? Featured music: “The Cloakmaker's Union” (Joe Glazer); “Killing Floor” (Howlin' Wolf); “Hard Times Killing Floor” (Skip James); “Odpocivam v Americkej pode/I Lie in the American Land” (written by Andrew Kovaly, performed by Vivien Richman); “Spirit of Phil Murray” (Sterling Jubilee Singers). Archival audio credits: UPWA oral histories recorded and generously provided by Rick Halpern; Deadline for Action (UE, 1946); James Matles Retirement Speech via UE History; oral histories of James Downey, Tom Girdler, Jr., and Harold Ruttenberg via AAPB.
