This past weekend a few of us MSU residents decided to take a road trip to the birthplace of osteopathy – Kirksville, MO. Some of the highlights were visiting the Museum of Osteopathy, Dr. Still's gravesite, touching the boots he wore and the staff he used. Jason, our guide, did an incredible job recounting the history and showing that although Still had his gifts he also had his limitations. I hope every osteopath is able to make it to Kirksville, and if you can't well here are a few stories to share what it's like.    Reach out to the podcast at the onmmpodcast@gmail.com with questions comments or if you would like to be on the podcast. As always be well, be curious and spread osteopathy. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/benjamin--greene/message

Today’s guest is Jason Haxton.  Jason is the former Dibbuk Box owner and is the  Director of the Museum of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He has studied American antiques and ancient artifacts for the past 26 years, collected and researched Mayan pottery for his thesis in the humanities, and has lectured on art history, paranormal & ancient art for 6 years at a mid-size liberal arts university. After he bought the dybbuk box, he launched a website that consolidated claims about the cabinet called "dibbukbox.com" that reportedly received hundreds of thousands of hits and created what has been described as an "internet legend". In 2004, Haxton sold the rights to the story to a Hollywood production company. The subsequent film The Possession, produced by Sam Raimi, was released in 2012. In 2011, he wrote a book about his experiences called the Dybbuk box and Haxton later gave the cabinet to Ghost Adventures star Zak Bagans to display in his museum. In 2018, rapper Post Malone claimed a string of bad luck was caused by his contact with the cabinet. So, How and why did Jason acquire the dybbuk box? What happened to him while he had it? What does he have to say to those who call it a hoax?  Does he have any other haunted artifacts? All this and a brand new Ghost Report from Lisa Morton on this week's episode of Ghost Magnet! #Dybbuk #JasonHaxton #ThePossession #SamRaimi

Welcome to the first episode in our series highlighting physicians for  Osteopathic Awareness Month. T oday we interview Jason Haxton, who has been awarded an "honorary D.O." because of his role as the director of the museum of osteopathic medicine in Kirksville, MO. for the past 20 years.  Today he will share with us some of the fascinating history of osteopathy. The collections of the Museum of Osteopathic Medicine include more than 80,000 objects, photographs, documents, and books dating from the early 1800s to the present (focused mainly on 1870–1940). The core of the collection consists of artifacts from the founder of osteopathy, A. T. Still's professional and private life, most of them donated by Dr. Still's daughter and members of her family.Since the founding of the Museum in 1934, other family members, DOs, and Museum supporters have donated many additional artifacts that reflect the ongoing history of the osteopathic profession. The research collections of the International Center for Osteopathic History (ICOH) also include many former holdings of the A.T. Still Memorial Library, for which the Museum assumed responsibility in 1997.  Of note, when we interviewed Dr. Darnita Anderson Hill last month, author of Blacks in Osteopathic Medicine, An idea whos time has comes, she found the resources of the museum invaluable to her writings.  We hope you enjoy this episode.

In this week’s show we discuss mysticism with Jason Haxton the owner of the dybbuk box; a wine box surrounded by mysterious events. This item first appeared on eBay and became popular in the 2012 Hollywood blockbuster “The Possession.” Mr. Haxton has been featured on many shows dealing with the supernatural for the SyFy channel, The Travel Channel and The History Channel. When I first heard about the movie I was afraid that Jewish folklore was being exploited for cheap thrills. I saw the movie and was impressed with it since it appeared to be a respectful take on the Jewish understanding of demonology. Mr. Haxton is the Director of the Museum of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, a scientist by profession he first encountered the supernatural when he obtained the box. We spoke about the physical ailments, natural phenomena he experienced and how the idea of the box is similar to concept to the genie in a bottle or Jinn in Middle Eastern culture. The contents of the box are the following: 4 stones from pillars where shalom is written, it contained two 1920s pennies, a lock of blonde hair bound with cord, a lock of black/brown hair bound with cord, one dried rose bud, a single candle holder with four octopus-shaped legs, and a small golden wine goblet. Many rational Jewish scholars feel that superstition is a remnant of more ancient animistic ideas which do not belong in Traditional Judaism. However, there is a strong trend in both Kabbalah and the Hasidic community of Eastern Europe of spiritual possession. In that tradition a dybbuk is the soul of a deceased individual who possesses another person and can only be released through an act of takanah (repair) to continue its gilgul (transmigration) to another life. According to Rabbi Geoffrey W. Dennis who wrote The Encyclopedia of Jewish Myth, Magic, and Mysticism. “Dybbuks are a form of spirit possession, not, as demonic possession… In Jewish tradition dybbukim do not possess “innocent” or “pure” souls, but invade those whose lives have made them vulnerable to such infestations through sin and lax observance of the Jewish faith.” The process of Jewish exorcism involves a minyan(quorum of ten men) and any Jewish person who has the knowledge to perform the rituals such as rabbis, local holy men or the educated. The ritual involves reciting the following Psalms: 91 the “Psalm of Affliction,” along with 16 and 121 to neutralize the spirit. Other objects associated with this process are prayer shawls and rams horns.

In this episode of Paranormal Underground Radio, we talk with Jason Haxton, author of the book The Dibbuk Box and current owner of the infamous Dibbuk Box. Jason is also the museum director at A.T. It is soon sold and resold on eBay’s Internet auction, and each new owner becomes desperate to get rid of the box along with the health problems, accidents, or death they claim came with it. The curator of a medical museum in a small Missouri town learns of the mysterious cabinet and is intrigued by it as an artifact to be studied and researched. Jason Haxton places a bid on eBay and he, too, wins and soon finds himself the proud owner of the dibbuk box. But as he carefully investigates and records everything he can about this unusual item said to be possessed by a Jewish spirit, he discovers far more than he bargained for.
