Read OnlineThe Holy One of GodIn the synagogue there was a man with the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out in a loud voice, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him and said, “Be quiet! Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down in front of them and came out of him without doing him any harm. Luke 4:33–35Yesterday, we began reading from the Gospel of Luke in our weekday liturgies, and we will continue to do so until the season of Advent. Luke's Gospel was written especially for Gentile converts—those unfamiliar with Jewish customs—presenting Jesus not only as the fulfillment of Israel's hopes but also as the Savior of all humanity. Unlike Matthew, who highlights Christ's fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, Luke reveals a broader vision: a universal Savior who brings healing, mercy, and salvation to the poor, the outcast, and the sinner. In today's passage, that universal mission is subtly foreshadowed through Jesus' divine authority. Though the setting is a Jewish synagogue in Capernaum, His actions speak to a power not confined to time, place, or people. With a simple word, Jesus rebukes the demon, silences its protest, and frees the afflicted man. The astonishment of the crowd—“What is there about his word?”—captures the essence of the moment: Here is One whose authority reaches even into the unseen spiritual world and commands it.Though He ministers among His own people, Jesus is not merely a teacher of the Law or a local prophet. His authority is absolute, His identity divine. The demon's cry—“I know who you are, the Holy One of God!”—offers a strange testimony: Even the spiritual forces of darkness recognize and submit to Him. This is not just a healing; it is a confrontation between the kingdom of God and the powers of evil. And it is only the beginning.Luke includes this scene early in his Gospel to show that Jesus' mission is one of liberation—liberation from sin, bondage, and every form of darkness. The fact that this miracle occurs in a synagogue reminds us that no place, however sacred, is immune to the presence of evil. But more importantly, it reminds us that no evil is immune to the authority of Christ. It is also helpful to recall the broader context. This event comes shortly after Jesus' baptism, His forty days in the desert, and His rejection in Nazareth. That rejection led Him to Capernaum, a humble fishing village that would become the center of His Galilean ministry. It is here that He will call Peter, Andrew, James, John, and Matthew—men who will carry His Gospel to the ends of the earth. Thus, what begins in a small synagogue soon echoes to the nations.Reflect today on the universal scope of Luke's Gospel, which we will hear over the coming months. Though Jesus begins within Israel, His mission reaches every soul. By beginning His ministry with a confrontation against evil, Jesus reveals that He has come not only to teach but to conquer—to break the chains of darkness and bring divine healing to the world. His Word still speaks with authority. May we listen, believe, and be set free from the evil one and all his demonic powers, so that we may help proclaim Christ's Kingdom to the ends of the earth in our own unique ways.My Lord and Holy One of God, from the very beginning of Your public ministry, You established Your divine authority over evil, revealing that You came to destroy the kingdom of darkness and to build Your Eternal Kingdom of truth and grace. Please cast out all evil and sin from my heart, so that Your reign may take full possession of my soul. Use me as You will to further Your Kingdom on earth, bringing Your light and truth to the ends of the earth, one soul at a time. Today we are talking about our power and authority as Christians. And how with those things, we can then go lay hands on the sick and see them recover and also see people delivered from demonic oppression. God never calls us to do something without first equipping us to do this and Matthew 10 is very clear that we have the authority to do these things but also that we are commanded as Christians to heal the sick, raise the dead, heal the lepers and cast out demons. You'll hear today:What to say to get a demon to leave according to Jesus' example of doing this found in the Bible (and what they might do but why you don't need to be afraid)A recent personal story of experiencing an attack of a spirit of fear and what I said to get it to leave right awaySigns what you are feeling is a spirit of fear and not anxietyA simplified approach to praying for the sickPast episodes mentioned:How to Practically Share Your Faith (and talk about God with others)Corresponding episodes: When Your Heart Hurts (Emotional Healing 101)Praying in Tongues Helps me with Anxiety (it's a VERY healthy habit!)Jesus Wants You Free of Anxiety (Bible Based Advice that Has Worked for Me)Connect with Nyla:IGWebsiteNyla's second podcast, On the Job with God Christian Business Podcast

La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Delivered by Thia Santos from the Church of Divine Mercy Shah Alam, in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Hosea 8: 4-7.11-13; Rs psalm 115: 3-4.5-6.7ab-8.9-10; Matthew 9: 32-38.JESUS IS NOT AN EQUAL SPARRING TO THE EVIL SPIRIT Our meditation today has the theme: Jesus is Not anEqual Sparring to the Evil Spirit. There was a priest who was invited by afamily to pray and cast out some evil spirits that possessed one of itsmembers. The priest brought with him the necessary instruments such as holywater, crucifix, alb and stole. As soon as the possessed person saw the priestcoming from the front of the house, he showed his face like someone who wantedto fight an enemy. He looked very strong. The priest stood calm before him. He spoke with allhis courage and what came out of his mouth was the word of God. This was enoughto silence that possessed person from uttering all curses. He couldn't standanymore the powerful God who made him very weak and powerless. The possessedman dropped into the bed. Meanwhile the priest kept praying and repeatedlyuttering the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was actually working in the person ofthat priest. Jesus is the Lord, so he is not bothered at all, scared or runaway because of the evil spirits. Jesus loves the sick, while evil spirits arenot loved. Instead they are rebuked, rejected and pressured to go out from thehuman person they take control. The evil spirits themselves are afraid to seeJesus from the first moment. They know that Jesus is much stronger and theywill never succeed to challenge Him. It is often shown in the scriptures thatthese evil spirits beg the Lord to have pity on them. It is very clear that every evil spirit is not anequal sparring to Jesus Christ. We as the followers of Christ have ouradvantage. We always go to Jesus to beg His power that He provides through Hisofficial representative, the ordained priest, in order to drive away evilspirits that take possession on our lives. However, by the dignity of thecommon priesthood because of the Baptism in Jesus Christ, every follower ofJesus should have the authority to reject and cast away temptations and evilpowers by using the name and power of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus gives us grace and strength to rejectthe evil spirits or any bad influence, through the power of sacraments of theChurch. Through the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and Eucharist, wehave the power of the Almighty God to fight Satan and all his powers. There aremany instruments that we can use in fighting evil influences in this world, forexample through knowledge and wisdom, prayer and work, maturity as human personand self-sacrifice, discipline and faithfulness. The work of driving out evil spirits and theinfluences of the world is a very big thing to do. In their times, Jesus ofNazareth and the prophet Amos worked alone to fulfill this particular task.Today there are so many from our part who represent the Lord Jesus and theprophet Amos to do this duty. We must be able to carry out this important duty, and God himself guides us because after all God is the winner.Let'spray. In the name of the Father … O Lord Jesus Christ, fill us with Your powerso that we are able to resist all evil spirits that aim to destroy us. OurFather who art in heaven ... In the name of the Father ...

Before demons became horned monsters in paintings, horror movies, and late-night YouTube thumbnails, they were something stranger.Older cultures spoke of daimons, spirits, hidden beings, wilderness presences, fallen angels, pagan gods, unclean spirits, and intelligences that seemed to move through dreams, temptation, sickness, fear, desire, and the human mind. Then Christianity entered the picture and reorganized the unseen world into a moral battlefield. In this episode of Idiot Mystic, we explore the long, eerie history of Christian demons: from Greek daimons and Jewish spirit traditions to the demons of the New Testament, the Desert Fathers, medieval demonology, witch trial panic, exorcism, possession, deliverance ministry, and modern psychological interpretations of demonic experience. We'll talk about Jesus casting out demons, Legion, Mary Magdalene and the “seven demons,” Augustine's rejection of daimonic mediation, Evagrius and the inner warfare of thoughts, medieval hierarchies, incubi and succubi, the Malleus Maleficarum, King James' Daemonologie, and why the demonic still feels so powerful when people talk about addiction, intrusive thoughts, trauma, compulsion, moral injury, oppression, and evil. This is part of the Idiot Mystic hidden beings series, alongside episodes on Mothman, Fairies / Hidden People, Daimons, Djinn, Shedim, and other recurring categories of unseen intelligence. The question underneath it all:Why do humans keep describing intelligences that influence thought, body, morality, desire, fear, and destiny? And maybe more specifically:How did Christianity turn the ambiguous middle world of spirits into a battlefield for the soul?Follow Idiot Mystic:YouTube / TikTok / Instagram: @idiotmysticWebsite: idiotmystic.comDiscord: https://discord.gg/dXKjhZrZmM

Guest speaker William Wood teaches on recognizing the influence of evil spirits in our lives so that we can be free.
On Sunday Pastor Jeff will share the second installment in a new sermon series called "The Dark Side of Spiritual Life." This week we'll explore the concept of "spiritual warfare," asking questions like: What is it? Should thoughtful people believe it? And if so, how can it affect my everyday life?
This week we launch into a new sermon series called "The Dark Side of Spiritual Life" in which we'll explore concepts like Satan, sin, demons, and hell, asking: As thoughtful 21st century people, what should we believe about these subjects? We'll start this week by wrestling with the Biblical concept of Satan and demons. Do they really exist? If so, how and why -- and what does that mean for us?
Today on the Daily Nugget, Mike talks about the reality of spiritual oppression and the claims that many believers may be under some level of attack. Looking at passages like Matthew 16:19 and Matthew 18:18, he emphasizes that true freedom begins with repentance and aligning ourselves with God's authority. While the enemy is real, Scripture calls us not to fear but to stand firm, resist, and walk in the victory Christ has already won. As we submit to God and trust His truth, we find not just defense against the enemy, but real deliverance and peace.

Today on the Daily Nugget, Mike explores passages like 1 Samuel 16 and the Gospels that point to a connection between spiritual forces and mental or emotional distress. He reflects on the fall in Eden, explaining that death included not just the physical, but also spiritual, emotional, and mental brokenness, opening the door to both inner evil and external spiritual influence. While anxiety and depression do not come from God, He may allow them for His greater purposes. Drawing on insights from Beatte Carmichael, Mike reminds listeners that true freedom and healing are found in the authority of Christ over every part of our brokenness.

He Played His Lyre, and The Evil Spirit Would Leave!1 Samuel 16:23 “Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.”When I heard about this verse, I loved it because it shows us another example of the power of music. When David played his lyre, the evil spirit would leave Saul. Did you know that music could set you free from evil spirits? Are you starting to see the power of praise and worship? Are you starting to see the power of music and singing? Praise and playing musical instruments have been setting captives free for a very long time.God instructed Joshua to have the Israelites march around the city of Jericho once a day for six days, with priests blowing trumpets and the people remaining silent. On the seventh day, they were to march around the city seven times. When the priests sounded the trumpets, Joshua commanded the people to shout, and the walls of Jericho collapsed. God allowed the Israelites to take this city. (Joshua 6:1–20)God reduced Gideon's army from thousands to just three hundred men so that Israel would know the victory came from Him alone. At God's instruction, the men carried trumpets and torches instead of swords. When they blew the trumpets and shouted, God threw the Midianite army into confusion, and the enemy turned on itself. Israel won the battle without fighting by strength, showing that obedience, proclamation, and trust in God released His power. (Judges 7:1–22)When King Jehoshaphat faced a vast enemy army, he sought the Lord, and God declared that the battle belonged to Him. Jehoshaphat sent singers ahead of the army, praising God as they marched into battle. As they worshiped, the Lord caused the enemy armies to turn on one another, and Judah did not have to fight at all. The victory came through praise, revealing that worship invites God to act powerfully on behalf of His people. (2 Chronicles 20:1–30)While imprisoned in Philippi after being beaten and chained, Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns to God in the middle of the night. As they worshiped, a sudden earthquake shook the prison, opening the doors and loosening everyone's chains. Rather than escaping, Paul and Silas remained, leading the jailer and his household to salvation. Their praise not only brought physical freedom but also opened the way for lives to be saved. (Acts 16:22–34)Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood before King Nebuchadnezzar and refused to bow to the golden image, declaring their unwavering faith in God. They proclaimed that God was able to deliver them from the fiery furnace, but even if He did not, they would not worship any false god. Their words were an act of praise rooted in trust—honoring God above fear, outcome, or survival. Their worship was not expressed through song, but through bold confession of God's power and faithfulness in the face of death. (Daniel 3:16–17)I like this example because it shows us that there are many ways to praise. If you don't like music, if you don't like singing, that doesn't mean that you can't be set free by praise and worship. There are so many ways to praise the Lord. Music happens to be my favorite, and for me, one of the easiest, because if I don't know what to say, there are plenty of others who have written beautiful songs who do know what to say. However, if you don't like music or singing, don't count yourself out. You can praise the Lord with your writing, with your words said outloud. You can praise the Lord with gratitude or in the things you say to others. There isn't just one way to praise the Lord. I pray that by the end of this series, you understand that there are so many different ways to praise. There is a way for everyone. When King Hezekiah received a threatening message from the Assyrian king, he took the letter to the temple and spread it before the Lord. In prayer, Hezekiah praised God as the one true Lord over all kingdoms and asked Him to act so that all would know His power. God responded by promising deliverance, and that very night the Assyrian army was defeated without Judah having to fight a single battle. Hezekiah's prayerful praise and trust in God's sovereignty led to a decisive victory and public recognition of the Lord's supremacy. (2 Kings 19:14–37)Again, this is a different kind of praise. King Hezekiah went in front of the Lord and presented the letter from his enemies. He then praised God as the one true King and asked God for help. Do you see how easy it can be to praise the Lord at times? All it says that he did was to praise the Lord as the one true King over all kingdoms. This is why I have placed a link in the previous episode for the praise sheets that I received at my prayer group. However, you don't even need those sheets. You can simply tell the Lord how great you think He is. I tend to say, “You are the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. You are the Almighty One. We worship you. We adore you, and we glorify you.” You can say whatever it is you think about the Lord.My homework for you today is to stop and think about 5 things you can say to the Lord to praise Him. What is it you think of Him? What do you know to be true about Him? Once you have these 5 things, you can have fewer or more; I just randomly decided on 5. Once you have these, then I want you to say them every single day to the Lord. It doesn't matter when you say them, but try to say them every day and watch how your life changes. Watch how your trust in the Lord begins to grow because you are reminding yourself every day how amazing He is. If you have to ask the Lord for something, start with these few praise statements and then ask Him. Watch to see if there is any difference in the number of answered prayers, or in the way they are answered. This is just one tiny way to add more praise into your life without going overboard or taking up a lot of extra time. Just give it a try. What have you got to lose? What could you gain? Trust me, more praise and worship in your life is exactly what you need right now. I know I may not know you, but I know this is what we all need right now. We need to replace the worry and anxiety of this world with praise and worship, and we then watch our lives feel a bit easier.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening today. Lord, I ask you to show them the power of praise and worship. I ask that you bless them with graces when they are praising you. I ask that you open their eyes to the ways that praise and worship are changing their lives. Help us to see with your eyes, Lord. Help us to notice more of you in our lives. We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus! “Why does God allow evil?” This question challenges many, and Christian philosophers have offered various responses. Additionally, the discussion touches on the nature of the spirit and its consciousness, the concept of apostolic succession and its documentation, and how to articulate the differences in understanding the Eucharist to those unfamiliar with it. Join the Catholic Answers Live Club Newsletter Invite our apologists to speak at your parish! Visit Catholicanswersspeakers.com Questions Covered: 01:30 – Atheists often argue that evil is evidence against God. If God were all-good, they argue, then no evil would exist. Christian philosophers have given a plethora of responses to this objection. But I was wondering how would Dr. Karlo respond. 15:21 – What is the spirit? What does the Church teach about this and does it teach whether the spirit is conscious? 21:23 – Apostolic succession. Which document shows this unbroken line of papal succession? How could you prove this to a protestant? 36:32 – I'm in RCIA. How do I explain the differences in understanding of the eucharist to someone who is not familiar with it? 47:20 – Regarding God's omniscience. Is there ever a point where God knows everything we will do before he creates us?
Send us a textJames Banks (now Gutierrez) was born into a crime family and only knew abuse and rage. Groomed to fill the shoes of his Uncle, James was encouraged in his rage and taught how to navigate, survive, and thrive in a world of crime and vengeance. Needless to say, James wasn't happy. In today's riveting testimony, James explains how God used the exposure of his uncle's motivation and the compassionate young woman to soften his heart. But “trying to do good” was not enough. James also needed deep deliverance and finally received it in a powerful encounter with God.❤️ SHOW YOUR SUPPORT - LINKS BELOW...➡️ Email me: https://www.karlgessler.com/contact➡️ DONATE ➡️ Join our team!https://www.givesendgo.com/karlgesslerfamilybandhttps://www.patreon.com/karlgesslerhttps://cash.app/$KarlgesslerSocial Media➡️Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100089357625739➡️Telegram - https://t.me/FaithoftheFathers➡️Truth Social - https://truthsocial.com/@UCLOvq6O4aIXLrkKxwXkq3uA#Bibleteaching #deliveranceministry #demons #Christianity #DiscipleshipSupport the show

Fr. Mike reflects on the goodness and providence of God the Father, emphasizing how Jesus calls us to be shamelessly persistent in prayer. Fr. Mike also explains two difficult passages found in today's readings: what Jesus means when he tells the story of an unclean spirit who is cast out only to return, and what Jesus means when he says he comes not to bring peace but division. Today's readings are Luke 11-12 and Proverbs 26:7-9. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear.

Jesus liberates a woman who had been crippled by an evil spirit for eighteen years on the sabbath. (Lectionary #479) October 27, 2025 - Cathedral Rectory - Superior, WI Fr. Andrew Ricci - www.studyprayserve.com
Acts 19:8-20 8 And he entered the synagogue and for three months spoke boldly, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God. 9 But when some became stubborn and continued in unbelief, speaking evil of the Way before the congregation, he withdrew from them and took the disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrannus. 10 This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks. 11 And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them. 13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.” 14 Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this.15 But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?” 16 And the man in whom was the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered allof them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. 17 And this became known to all the residents of Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks. And fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was extolled. 18 Also many of those who were now believers came, confessing and divulging their practices. 19 And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver.20 So the word of the Lord continued to increase and prevail mightily. Men underestimate the war being waged against them. The Devil doesn't just tempt from a distance; he enters your home, seeking to pull you off your vocation as a husband and father, drown out the voice of God, and divide your marriage. Scripture, the saints, and even modern exorcists confirm it: this is how the enemy works. Yet the vast majority of men are unarmed and frankly unaware. Only 5–10% of Catholic men are even praying daily. Is it any wonder the family is crumbling? In this episode, John Heinen and Devin Schadt break open The Rule to expose three subtle but devastating ways demons attack men. We'll name what's really happening, why it matters for husbands and fathers, and how you can resist.
