[EP 25-022] After a fire that never should have happened burned thousands of houses to the ground in a liberal enclave of Los Angeles through a combination of Democrat incompetence and more Democrat incompetence, you might ask yourself whether the deep blue people of Los Angeles are ever going to come to their senses and start electing people who aren't a bunch of communist morons more concerned with Ghana junkets and lesbian representation at the fire department then with actually doing their jobs. Don't bother asking. The answer is “No.” They're never going to change. They can't change. They're going to keep on electing the same brand of Democrat mediocrities who got them into this mess, but they do have a plan. They're going to blame the weather, insurance companies that don't want to lose money, Donald Trump, and anything but themselves for the chaos they voted for. If California's Democrats didn't have their incompetence, they wouldn't have any kind of competence at all. People ask me if California has finally hit bottom, but there's a problem with that premise. The problem is that it assumes that there is a bottom and that hitting the bottom would result in some sort of directional change in the downward trajectory of what was once the greatest state in the Union. But there is no bottom, not for them. You need to understand that. A Statista Consumer Insights survey of 1,050 U.S. residents revealed that the top response regarding resolutions for 2025 was surprising: 4 in 10 respondents stated they do not plan to make any resolutions for the upcoming year. Why might that be? It's not too surprising, considering that research shows only 9-12% of people actually keep their New Year's resolutions. So what does work? A 2022 study found that setting daily intentions improved focus and emotional regulation in 73% of participants. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning the 2nd of June, 2023 and this is your friend Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. If we start in Numbers 21:17:“Spring up, O well!All of you sing to it"Then we go straight to Isaiah 33:22:For the Lord is our Judge,The Lord is our Lawgiver,The Lord is our King;He will save us;Then just over the page to Isaiah 35:6:For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness,And streams in the desert.Are you going through a barren desert time at the moment in your life, my dear friend? Well, the Lord's got a word for us. He says: "Keep digging your well". "But Lord, it's so dry, we're in the middle of the desert". "Keep digging your well". Jesus says in Matthew 5:6, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled".I remember it like yesterday. We arrived on that farm that we bought, now called Shalom, and it was just a piece of bush. There were no houses, there were no facilities, there was no electricity. There was nothing. It was just barren land. We had no water and I found a damp patch, that's all it was, in a low-lying area. With a pick and shovel and with a couple of helpers we started to dig right on that damp spot and we dug down 8 feet, I remember clearly. Eventually, we were lowering ourselves down with a rope it was like we were going into a mine, we just kept on digging I never thought we would get anything and then all of a sudden out of the side of a rock started trickling a beautiful, clear spring. The water gurgled up. We nurtured it lovingly and it grew stronger and stronger and stronger until we had a water supply for our little house. I want to tell you something today, we have no less than four, small dams that originated from that little spring that we dug in the wilderness. Today, the Lord says to you: "Keep digging your well and you will receive water to quench your thirst". Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day, goodbye.

A Rare Collection is a monthly series featuring people from the rare disease community, sharing a story with a common theme. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Angela, Mom to Yiannis with IRF2BPL, a neurodegenerative disorder When Yiannis was born on a Saturday evening in July 2020, we knew immediately that something wasn't right. He was whisked away to the NICU and nobody could tell us what was happening. Yiannis was in the NICU for more than two weeks without answers. After 18 months, a neurologist started to piece the puzzle together. Through whole exome sequencing, we found Yiannis had two ultra rare fatal progressive neurodegenerative disorders, IRF2BPL and LSM1. We started a foundation, Yellow for Yiannis, to be a leading resource forIRF2BPL funding and for the support of other families that are enduring this disease. Katie, Mom to Beau with KIF1A, a neurodegenerative disorder On December 17th, 2021, just shy of a month after his second birthday, our son was diagnosed with KIF1A, a super rare genetic condition that affects about 400 people in the world. We had a healthy, happy pregnancy leading to a pretty uncomplicated birth. Beau met all of his milestones and he was a healthy baby. When discrepancies in his communication, social skills, gross motor and fine motor skills developed, Beau was diagnosed with KIF1A through genetic testing. I encourage any parents who don't feel okay with a diagnosis to keep digging and keep pushing for the safety of your child. Dana, Sister to Jason and Sean with BCAP31 After years of genetic testing, it was revealed that my brothers Jason, age 21, and Sean, age 18, were both missing six pairs of their x chromosome. There's no cure for what my brothers have. They're the oldest documented case and most families I've met since have received a diagnosis for their kids around 3 years old. It was at that age when my mom noticed that Jason wasn't hitting his milestones. Kelly, Mom to Emma with dopamine transporter deficiency syndrome (DTDS) When my daughter was 2 months old, I started noticing she was missing milestones. I sought out a complex care pediatrician who started running tests and lab work. Emma received a cerebral palsy diagnosis, but I couldn't accept this diagnosis and sought out other opinions. After a genetic panel on neurotransmitters a genetic counselor revealed the real diagnosis- dopamine transporter deficiency syndrome. Had we settled for the CP diagnosis, we wouldn't have known that our daughter's life expectancy was only late adolescence or that a gene therapy clinical trial will be available. Throughout this learning series, we've learned how important it is to keep digging. When we are persistent in our obedience, God can work mightily in our lives. But once we receive the miracle where do we go from there? Are we finished in our walk with God because we got what we wanted? In the final sermon on Keep Digging, Pastor Stephan teaches us that the victory that we receive is simply a refilling for the battle that lies ahead. When it seems we are defeated, remember… it's not what it looks like.
When God says “no”, it can seem earth-shattering. How can a God that loves us have the audacity to not immediately answer our prayers?! But luckily, we can praise our living God that the brief periods of suffering we endure are ultimately for our strength! We are being built up as mighty warriors, and we can endure – as long as we ask for God's grace. In this week's sermon from Pastor Stephan, we are built up in faith, knowing that we can boast in our insufficiencies and lean back on the grace of God in our times of genuine pain.
In the words of the beloved Katie Rockwell, “Keep showing up.” God has got incredible plans for us, plans to overcome and be more than conquerors. Our steps are certainly guided by the living God, but that means we still have to do the walking. This week, Pastor Stephan teaches us of the importance of perseverance, and the incredible power of just showing up for God.
When we see others receive the blessings that we asked God for, it can be frustrating. It's easy to feel unheard or neglected but sometimes the root issue is that we haven't put in the work in faith. But when we trust in the Lord, He issues us His respect through righteousness. In this hope-giving sermon from Pastor Stephan, we're shown that by the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, we are freely justified; we are made righteous and whole.
We know our God loves to move in signs and wonders, in miracles and in blessings, but could it be that God loves to move in the boring things? In this week's sermon, Pastor Stephen teaches us that our resolutions aren't end-goals, they're game plans. And what seems like boring menial work, is likely the catalyst for God's real move of power in our lives.
We're surrounded by constant bombardment of information, and it's impossible to tell what is the absolute truth. Our culture's morals and ideals can change entirely within a matter of days. So when we have pressing questions, we must turn to our God who is the way, the truth, and the life. In the first message of 2023, Pastor Stephan instructs us to turn to God with our questions rather than seeking sources that do no satisfy. In order to truly receive, we must first open our hearts and listen in the quiet place. Be Blessed!
