Disordered eating can take on many forms, from anorexia nervosa to orthorexia, but many of these conditions find similar roots in past and childhood trauma, abuse, obsessive compulsive disorder, and body dysmorphia. Unfortunately, we are also prone to passing disordered eating behaviors onto our children. In this episode, we are privileged to interview Dr. Christina Stai, Psy.D, licensed clinical psychologist and author of Don't Pass It On. We discuss the characteristics of disordered eating, what events and factors can cause it to arise, how to recognize it and seek treatment, and how to avoid passing disordered eating onto your children. Whether you personally suffer from disordered eating or not, this is a great episode to help you understand the mindset that can lead to a need to control your food, and how that can become an unhealthy behavior over the long-term. Whether it's relationships, people, habits, or things — there's always the difficulty of letting go and moving on from something that has been a part of you. Change is good, but it can be downright scary. Letting go requires releasing things, opening our hands from life's death grip, and allowing things to flow.  Join me in this episode of Someone Gets Me ▶️ How to Break the Cycle. Key points covered in this episode:  ✔️ Everybody desires to break a negative cycle in their life. Multiple people I work with struggle with pain acquired in their personal lives or their families, generation after generation. There are practical things to do to overcome patterns that no longer serve you.  ✔️ The first step is to tell ourselves the truth that we're in a cycle or in a pattern that's not serving us for the highest good. Sometimes that's hard because our ego, that's not our amigo, often wants to make things a certain way to keep things and the status quo going. We tend to keep things moving in complacency or ease and not want to open up Pandora's box. That willingness to go within and tell the absolute truth can be daunting.  ✔️ It takes courage and tremendous guts to make the changes and free ourselves. Suit up, show up, and buckle up because breaking patterns and achieving generational healing are not for the weak of heart. The result is wonderful, but it's not easy.

At the age of 6 she learnt that her father, who has been absent her entire life, wasn't working away, but indeed serving a prison sentence for murder. Her relationship with her young mother was turbulent at times, which she was yet to realise was a part of a cycle within her family. It's easy to imagine how Renee's life could have turned out. What's harder to wrap your mind around is how it did turn out. Today Renee is the author of two best selling memoirs, “House of Lies”, and “Unravelling Us”, and by day she works in the Child Protection unit as a social worker. In this episode Renee shares the path that led her to this role, and what working in child protection is really like.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/central-station. Does it feel you spend all your time fighting fires? Like a conveyor belt, urgent demands keep showing up that dominate your time, attention and resources. So, you repeatedly find yourself interrupting or deferring long-term solutions in order to deal with superficial effects. Because you keep moving from one thing to the next, you tend to leave things half done and patched up. As a result, these problems find their way back into your space and sometimes, show up even worse. This is what is called the Firefighter Mentality. This week Olawunmi teaches why this is a very unproductive way to live and how you can break this cycle by taking a more strategic approach to solving the problems you encounter at work and in life.

Annie and Austin were both raised without knowing where their next meal would come from. They came to me looking for a way to break the relentless chain of generational poverty that they've experienced… and that they fear they're passing on to their two young children. The good news is that it's not too late for them, or anyone, to start making the right decisions and move toward a Rich Life they can be proud to pass on. They bring in about $130k a year in a low-cost region, and since they're only in their twenties, they can expect to make more money as they get further into their careers. Annie and Austin have never been taught about money. So listen in as I meet them where they are: zero savings, $68,000 in debt, and no tools for managing their finances.
