Whether it's relationships, routines, or recurring patterns, your brain will always choose the known over the unknown… until you choose differently.

It's like your mind hits repeat, and no matter how hard you try, you can't seem to switch tracks. I've been there too, stuck in the loop of worry or self-criticism that steals peace and energy. In this episode, we're discussing how to step off the mental hamster wheel and invite Christ into your thought life, so your mind becomes a place of rest, not rumination. Hi everyone! Today we're exploring the connection between ADHD and bullying. Research consistently shows that children with ADHD are more vulnerable to bullying than their neurotypical peers. For instance, a study utilizing data from the National Survey of Children's Health found that 47% of children with ADHD reported being victims of bullying, more than double the prevalence in the general population PMC.This increased susceptibility isn't just a childhood issue—it extends into adolescence and adulthood, affecting self-esteem and mental health. Adolescents with ADHD who experience bullying are at a significantly higher risk for anxiety and depression compared to their peers without ADHD. My guest today, Brooke Schnittman, knows this firsthand. Brooke is an ADHD coach, speaker, and host of the podcast, Successful with ADHD. She works to help adults turn their challenges into strengths. In our conversation, she shares her own story of being bullied from childhood into adulthood, how it shaped her understanding of ADHD, and what helped her begin to rebuild a sense of self-worth.This episode isn't just about surviving bullying - it's about understanding how those experiences shape the brain and the stories we tell ourselves, and how healing becomes possible through awareness, coaching, and connection. I also share some additional strategies - both for parents and adults - that can help build proactive protection and resilience in environments where bullying or exclusion might occur. I hope you enjoy! Here are the show notes: Learn More About Brookehttps://www.coachingwithbrooke.com/about-brookeSuccessfull with ADHD Podcasthttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/successfull-with-adhd/id1674069554Bullying: What Parents and Teachers of Children with ADHD Need to Knowhttps://chadd.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/ATTN_06_12_Bullying.pdfBullying Resource Centerhttps://www.aacap.org/aacap/Families_and_Youth/Resource_Centers/Bullying_Resource_Center/Home.aspxHow to Demobilize a Bully in 5 Stepshttps://www.additudemag.com/stop-bullying-adhd-upstander/?srsltid=AfmBOoozI6FRhewOLn8ICHuypgxNjYuz4icT8UfTDNIPcYINmIxqmwt3Put Down the Stick, Pick Up a Feather: Adult ADHD & Self-Criticismhttps://chadd.org/attention-article/put-down-the-stick-pick-up-a-feather-adult-adhd-self-criticism/Learn More About Our MAP Programhttps://map.worksmartcoaching.comLearn More About 1:1 Coachinghttps://www.beyondbooksmart.com/how-it-worksGet in Touchpodcast@beyondbooksmart.comInstagram/Facebook/Tiktok: @beyondbooksmartcoachingwww.beyondbooksmart.com

Summary In this episode, Ali Damron explores the intricate relationship between stress, repressed emotions, and the nervous system. She discusses how stress manifests in our bodies and minds, the impact of childhood experiences on emotional development, and the importance of radical acceptance in managing anxiety. The conversation emphasizes the need to recognize and process emotions rather than suppress them, highlighting the role of coping mechanisms and the significance of teaching our brains to feel safe. Ali encourages listeners to engage with their emotions and live their lives despite the presence of anxiety and stress. Takeaways Life is inherently stressful, affecting various aspects of our lives. Stress can lead to hormonal imbalances and various health issues. Managing stress is often oversimplified; we need deeper strategies. Repressed emotions can keep us stuck in anxiety. The nervous system interprets suppressed emotions as danger. Childhood experiences shape our emotional responses and coping mechanisms. Coping strategies often involve avoidance behaviors. Radical acceptance helps in acknowledging and processing emotions. Teaching the brain that it is safe to feel is crucial for healing. Engaging with life despite anxiety can promote emotional safety. Sound bites "How do we actually manage stress?" "Your brain and body are one thing." "Radical acceptance is not giving up." We've been watching talented, capable financial coaches hold themselves back from doing their best work, and it has nothing to do with skills or caring. They'll create a freebie but never really put it out there. Someone asks about their coaching, but they don't follow up. They get invited to present at a workshop but decide “now's not the right time.”It's not that they don't want the results on the other side. It's not that they're not capable, even if it feels a little scary. So why aren't they taking action on the things they say they want to do?What we're seeing is a fear of failure epidemic that's showing up in ways that might surprise you. It's creating this cycle where people avoid taking meaningful action because they're terrified of not getting it right. But we live in a world where everything feels permanent and public. Social media makes it so your mistakes can follow you forever. There's this pressure to have everything figured out before you even start, which creates paralyzing perfectionism where people would rather do nothing than risk doing something imperfectly. And our environment makes it easier than ever to avoid the challenging work that creates real results. When something feels hard, there's always an easier alternative just a swipe away. You can spend hours watching videos about marketing strategies without ever implementing a marketing strategy, which tricks you into feeling like you're working but leaves you confused about why you're not getting results. The irony? You're listening to this podcast right now, learning instead of doing. And that's exactly the trap. But what if instead of quietly shrinking away and not doing the thing you said you wanted to do, you committed to what we're calling “loud failure”? What if you decided that if you're going to fail either way, you'd rather fail by actually putting yourself out there?Because wouldn't it be cool if being okay with loud failure meant you were doing the hard things—talking more, presenting more, offering to help people more—and maybe, just maybe, those things would actually make you successful?Links & Resources:Join the MastermindUltimate Growth GuideJoin the Facebook groupKey Takeaways:You'd rather spend three days writing the perfect email sequence than three hours making phone calls, because one feels safe and the other doesn't. But only one actually gets you closer to new clients.“Good enough to move on” is your new standard, not perfection. Embrace it instead of staying stuck in endless revision cycles. If you're going to fail either way, fail loudly by putting yourself out there rather than quietly shrinking away and creating the very failure you're trying to avoid.Productive procrastination keeps you busy with tasks that feel important but don't move your business forward, like researching every certification instead of just starting to help people.Choose one source of business education and stick with it for a month. Consuming information from multiple sources creates overwhelm and imposter syndrome, not progress.Discomfort is a sign of growth, not a warning to stop. Why do neurodiverse couples clash so often? Licensed counselor Greg Fuqua shares the hidden patterns—and how to finally break them. If your neurodiverse relationship feels like a boxing ring—or you keep looping the same arguments—this episode gives you a new playbook. Jodi sits down with licensed counselor Greg Fuqua (late-identified autistic) to talk about what really changes things: shifting from blame to inner work, breaking the cycle of “negative assumptions of wrongness,” and why individual therapy often helps autistic/ADHD couples more than traditional couples counseling. Greg also shares the turning point in his own 30-year marriage: a career collapse, intrusive suicidal thoughts, and the affect-based therapy that cracked open his emotions and rebuilt his capacity for connection. You'll come away with practical language you can use today, a clearer map of autistic–neurotypical differences as strengths (not flaws), and a preview of Part 2, where we dive into specific co-regulation and attunement tools you can practice at home.

What if the greatest barrier to your breakthrough… is what you've grown too used to? In this soul-stirring message, Freedom From Familiar, Guest Pastor Darrison Tellez unpacks a powerful moment from Luke 4, where Jesus returns to His hometown—not to comfort the crowd, but to confront their complacency. Though He reads the scroll proclaiming liberty, healing, and freedom, the people reject Him. Why? Because what becomes familiar often becomes dismissed. With piercing insight, Pastor Darrison exposes how the sin of familiarity can rob us of reverence, how church can become a chore instead of a joy, and how the enemy distorts our perception—making captivity feel like liberty, and true liberty feel like a burden. Through scriptures like John 8:36 and Galatians 5:1, we're reminded: freedom is not a feeling—it's a promise. But you have to fight to keep it. You have to resist the pull of old patterns, daily deny yourself, and choose the altar—not just for others, but for you. This is your wake-up call to stop circling the same mountain and step boldly into the freedom Jesus died to give you. It's time to break the chains of the familiar—and walk in the power of the Spirit.

Procrastination isn't a time‑management problem—it's an emotion‑management one. In this solo episode, I unpack how shame fuels the procrastination loop and why “I'll do it tomorrow” keeps us stuck. (This framing comes from researcher Tim Pychyl's work showing procrastination is about regulating feelings, not calendars.) I walk through a simple “Head, Heart, or Hands” check to pinpoint what's really blocking action—overthinking (head), emotional resistance (heart), or missing tools/skills/environment (hands)—and how to respond to each. Then we borrow from Anne‑Laure Le Cunff's Tiny Experiments and make a short pact: a tiny, curiosity‑driven step (your “bare minimum habit”) that trades judgment for feedback and momentum. By the end, you'll have one micro‑action to break the cycle today—and a playbook to repeat tomorrow.Welcome to the Pac, please make sure you subscribe wherever you are listening to this show and if you loved this show please leave us a 5 star review in the iTunes store. The Uplift app is here! Try it free for 30 days! Let me tell you something that might surprise you: Real resilience doesn't start with pushing through. It begins when you permit yourself to pull back. I know that goes against everything the world shouts at us—“Strong women don't quit!” However, sometimes what we call strength is merely survival mode in disguise. We've worn exhaustion like a badge of honor, powering through every storm as if it's the only way to prove we're tough enough. But here's the truth: the grit that got you here isn't the same grace that's going to carry you forward. Today, I want to talk about a different kind of resilience. Not the kind that demands you white-knuckle your way through stress, but the kind that invites you to rest with intention. To embrace rhythms of recovery. To build a life that feels whole, not just high-functioning. Because you weren't created just to survive, you were made to thrive. This is a Fan Fav episode. How do you know if he's really interested or just obsessed with you? In reality, it's hard to decipher what's fact and what's myth when it comes to knowing what men want.
