Maybe one of the hosts of Listen & Learn or Not can't get the title of Everything Everywhere All At Once straight. Most of you probably can, and have seen it. It did win a lot of Oscars after all. Maybe you can help Claire out and let her know what movies she should see because - surprise - she hasn't seen EVERYTHING. Like Barbie. In fact, neither she nor Anna have seen Barbie yet. Laurie Hardie has though. Just like this episode description, this actual episode goes a few directions. And that's ok because that's just the kind of mood they were in when they recorded it. If there's one thing they would like you to get out of this, it's this. Claire's lovely wife Sharon has been cranking out videos for her school called "New Page Academy" at newpageacademy.com, and it is kicking butt! You can catch it on YouTube, and sometimes she goes live. She also has a Facebook group called "Learn To See, Learn To Draw" where people can post things and she can give advice. One more little nugget. Have you heard Cher's new Christmas song? You can hear some of it here. Listen! Learn! or Not! Learn more about your ad choices. (Recorded 8/25/23) Laurie, Anna and Claire explore the infamous Seattle Freeze phenomenon. They've each felt the Seattle Freeze in one shape or form, and one of them has a theory. Hurricane Hilary turned into a tropical storm that made landfall in southern California. and Claire was there visiting Aunt Bernice when it happened! Having been through similar hurricanes and storms on the east coast, Claire had the challenge of convincing family on the west coast (where hurricanes just don't really occur) to take this storm a little more seriously. After having to navigate around some family emergencies that required hospital stays, Anna discovered being a hospital visitor at a patient's bedside seems to be a very good part of the healing process -- but she had also noticed not every patient has a visitor at their bedside. Now the hosts' wheels are turning, and they think maybe there should be a network that provides volunteer hospital visitors. (But let us know if one already exists, yo). The baby formula shortage has gone from an inconvenience to a national crisis real quickly. These last couple weeks have shown just how complex the shortage is and how there isn't a seemingly simple formula to solving the problem. Laurie, Claire and Anna D talk about what this crisis reveals about the baby formula industry, as well as some solutions people have come up with lately. Speaking of babies, remember when Karen used to be a popular baby name? Now it's become a stand-in for offensive behavior of women. Countless TikTok videos are dedicated to 'Bad Karens'. But what about your family and friends who are really named Karen - having to be associated with the insult even if they are nothing like those memes. We chat about the sad truth that the name Karen was, indeed, hijacked. We give a shout-out to the many wonderful people named Karen that we know...especially Claire's neighbor Karen, as well as the beloved Karen Carpenter, because, why not? Also, do you feel compelled to finish every single novel you start? We all know life's too short to finish a book you don't like, but you'd be surprised how many of us feel guilty about the thought of starting something without finishing it. Could be because the story will redeem itself at some point and you don't want to miss out. Maybe it's a sign of strength to slog through a novel you stopped liking after 50 pages. Maybe friends loved it and you feel like you need to keep trying. So go on! Finish that book you're not all that into...or not.

Our country and almost the entire world has come together to support the people of Ukraine. Our hearts go out to them. With that in mind, it seems fitting to spotlight our sister station' rallying cry in the form of a Whiz Khalifa song and in the style of Young Jeffrey: "Blue and Yellow". It delivers a powerful message and celebrates Ukraine's resilience and wisdom. Most importantly, we hope it helps drive support for their people who have been forcibly displaced. Laurie, Claire and Anna hope you do what you can to help. WCK.org and WorldVision.org are just a couple ways you can. Thanks for listening.
