This sermon explores the certainty of death and the mystery of God's sovereign providence through a continuous exposition of Ecclesiastes 8:16 to 9:12. The preacher emphasizes that human knowledge is limited and that life outcomes are often unpredictable, yet God remains in complete control. Recognizing death as an inevitable consequence of sin, the text urges believers not to despair but to find joy in the good gifts God provides, such as food, work, and relationships. By anchoring hope in Christ's victory over death, Christians are called to live gratefully and faithfully, using their remaining time to glorify God and enjoy His blessings until they are called home.

When you hear the word worship, what comes to mind? Maybe you picture standing in church on Sunday morning, singing with your hands raised. Perhaps you think about prayer, reading Scripture, or verbally praising God. All of these are beautiful expressions of worship—but worship was never meant to be confined to a church service. Our entire lives can become an offering to God. This week on The Love Offering Podcast, I’m welcoming Cheryl Marshall back to the show to talk about her new book, All of Me: Pursuing a Life Wholly Devoted to God. Drawing from Romans 12:1–2, Cheryl helps us understand what it means to present ourselves as living sacrifices and worship God with every part of who we are. Our hands, feet, eyes, ears, thoughts, motives, abilities, responsibilities, hopes, and dreams all belong to Him. Whether we are caring for children, helping an aging parent, working at our jobs, serving in our churches, or simply completing the next ordinary task before us, we have an opportunity to honor God. But wholehearted devotion isn’t always easy. Cheryl identifies three things that can divide our devotion: distraction, disobedience, and discouragement. Sometimes our hearts become distracted by busyness or the desire for approval. Sometimes we hold on to a sin or attitude we know God is asking us to surrender. And sometimes discouragement convinces us that our current circumstances—or even our past—make us unable to do anything significant for Him. But Cheryl reminds us that our limitations do not disqualify us from glorifying God. In fact, those very places may become the setting where His strength, mercy, and faithfulness shine most clearly. Our devotion doesn’t begin with guilt, fear, pride, or striving. It begins with remembering God’s mercy. As Cheryl says, “All other motivations other than mercy will fail us.” Because Jesus gave all of Himself for us, we can joyfully offer all of ourselves to Him. If your heart feels distracted, weary, discouraged, or divided today, I hope you’ll listen to this conversation. God is patient with us. He meets us in our weakness, renews our minds through His Word, and gives us the grace to take the next faithful step. God gives his people four identity defining titles—a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and his own possession—rooted in his eternal foreknowledge and saving purpose. These titles reveal both the believer's privileged position in Christ and the mission God assigns: "that you may declare the praises of him." God forms his people through the Holy Spirit so they increasingly reflect his glory, having been called "out of darkness into his wonderful light." God looks upon this redeemed community—once not a people, now his people—and declares it good.

Chad Chambers, Executive Director of C.H.A.R.M. Prison Ministry, shows us that growing in godliness is not passive. It requires the same intentional effort and discipline we give to every other area of life. Based on 1 Timothy 4:6-16, the foundation of spiritual growth begins with where we place our hope. When our hope is set on the living God, our worship follows naturally, and our worship shapes who we become. Whatever captures our hearts will ultimately form our character, our values, and how we spend our time, talents, and treasures. Practically, training for godliness means knowing God's Word, obeying it, fulfilling the work He has called us to, and persisting even when it is hard. Our hope determines our worship, our worship forms our identity, and our identity directs everything we do. Set your hope on the living God, and let everything else follow from there.

Because Christ suffered to save us, believers are called to think and live differently. In this passage, Peter moves from Christ's saving suffering to the believer's sanctifying suffering. If Jesus suffered in obedience to the Father, we must “arm ourselves” with that same mindset, choosing God's will over sin, even when it costs us. Peter reminds us that our former life of sinful passions is finished. We don't owe sin another hour. Instead, we now live under a new Master—the will of God. And when we refuse to join the world's patterns, we should expect misunderstanding, rejection, and even hostility. Our holiness will stand out. But we are not left without hope. God is the righteous Judge, and no injustice escapes Him. Though believers may suffer or even die physically, the gospel guarantees eternal life. Just as Christ was put to death in the flesh and made alive in the Spirit, so we share in His pattern of suffering now and glory to come. First Peter 4:1–6 calls Christians to decisive allegiance to Christ, living no longer for human passions, but for the will and glory of God. ________________________________________ Links to Sermon Notes & Answers: ➤Sermon Notes (Blank): https://www.sheridanhills.org/_files/ugd/30fec2_f0a49705cadb439c93dd049de8b4adf3.pdf ➤Sermon Notes (Answers): https://www.sheridanhills.org/_files/ugd/30fec2_fada543e541c48b08ba55b89728545e4.pdf ________________________________________ In this video: Review of previous sermons in series Main Points Application ________________________________________ Subscribe to this channel to catch weekly expositional sermons from the Bible. ________________________________________ Explore more sermons and information: https://www.sheridanhills.org/watch-new ________________________________________ Follow us: ➤Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sheridanhills/ ➤Twitter: https://twitter.com/sheridanhills01 ➤Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sheridanhills/

In this first message for 2026 Phil Mason shares on the theme of Living for God. In an age of ever-increasing lawlessness, where so many are taking the name of the Lord in vain, there is an imperative for those of us who truly believe in God to live for Him. But what does it mean to live for God?Do we really believe that God exists? If we do, we must make the radical decision to live fully for Him; otherwise, we will be swept up in what Paul called the ‘strong delusion' (2 Thessalonians 2:11) that is sweeping away all those who cannot escape the rising tide of lawlessness that is gripping the planet. How do we know if we are under this ‘strong delusion?' The world is full of religious people who profess a belief in God yet are completely unmoved by Him. If we truly believe in God, then we must live for Him. Allow this message to set the compass of your heart for 2026. Be blessed!

In order to make a difference in the people around us for God's glory, we need to make sure that we are investing in our relationship with Him and that He is at work in us. Since our purpose in life is to glorify God, He will use situations to break us if necessary so that His glory is made known. Rather than having to face consequences from our own choices, we need to live our lives in obedience to Him and allow His glory to shine in and through us.

Richard Ellis Talks

At the beginning of a year there is a sense of new beginnings to make things different and better in our lives. Our finances are one thing the Bible maps out to show us where we need to be responsible. When we give our first fruits to God by placing our treasure in our church home, it also indicates that we are committed to belonging to a body of believers like He has called us to. Above anything else, the only thing that will keep us on track in all categories of responsibilities is spending time every morning talking with God.
