It's time to wrap up 2023 in Episode 621 with a great conversation with an excellent up-and-coming comics creator, Olivia Cuartero-Briggs! Olivia is an award-winning dramatic writer, fitness junky, and girl mom, born and raised in New York City. She's also the author of Mary Shelley Monster Hunter and Silver City with Aftershock Comics as well as the upcoming Fate: The Winx Saga graphic novel series from Maverick. Jill and the Killers is her groundbreaking new series debuting with Oni Press in January, and it's described this way: “Returning to school after the unsolved disappearance of her mother, teenager Jill Estrada can't wait for things to return to normal . . . even as her friends become compulsively obsessed with Box Killers, a true-crime subscription game where each month's ‘unsolved case' is custom-tailored to the life of its player. There's only one catch: Jill's game seems to be all too real . . . and when her clues begin to connect to a series of disappearances in her town, Jill and her friends must uncover the truth behind these mysterious crimes before one of their own becomes the next victim.” We talk about how this book came to be, who the characters are, and what we can expect from Olivia in the coming months! It's a fun discussion, just a perfect way to wrap up 2023! Be sure to let your local comics shop know you want this high-octane title today! Be back next week as we kick off 2024! Episode 145!? This week we are giving our thoughts on "Chicken Devil", as well as going over some nerd news! Mitchell Moss is about as regular as it gets. He's married with two children and co-owns a successful chain of Memphis Hot Chicken restaurants. It's not the life that screams hero/vigilante...until he discovers that his business partner is in bed with the mob and owes them $2 million. Unfortunately, Mitch is ill-equipped to be a badass - he's just a guy who makes really good chicken. Can he protect his family from cold-blooded gangsters? Absolutely not. But maybe the CHICKEN DEVIL can... Writer Brian Buccellato (Detective Comics, The Flash, Witchblade) and artist Hayden Sherman (COLD WAR, MARY SHELLEY MONSTER HUNTER) serve up a darkly comedic crime drama that's juicy, tender and finger-lickin' hilarious. This 120-page volume collects the entire series, issues #1-4. Welcome to OCD’s 3rd of 31 days of horror! Each day for 31 days, Tess is bringing you spooky, fun, and witchy horror comic and comic movie reviews! Today, Tess is joined by her husband, John Babe, to discuss Adam Glass and Olivia Cuartero-Briggs’ “Mary Shelley: Monster Hunter.”For nearly two centuries, scholars have wondered how on earth Mary Shelley, a nineteen-year-old girl, was able to conjure one of the most frightening and enduring horror stories of all-time: Frankenstein. But with the recent discovery of Mary Shelley’s secret memoir, the truth is finally revealed: Mary Shelley didn’t just write Frankenstein, she lived it. Traveling back to that historic Geneva winter of 1816, Mary, her fiancé Percy, sisters Claire and Fanny, and the celebrated poet Lord Byron find themselves guests of the eerie Frankenstein Estate. The macabre and frightening events that follow lead Mary to both a gruesome and shocking discovery. Their mysterious host is not at all what they expected, and their intentions will change the course of Mary’s life forever.Brought to life by Adam Glass (ROUGH RIDERS, THE NORMALS, THE LOLLIPOP KIDS) and Olivia Cuartero-Briggs (TV’s The Arrangement) with art by Hayden Sherman (COLD WAR, The Few, Wasted Space), MARY SHELLEY: MONSTER HUNTER is historical fiction at its most (After)shocking!Follow OCD on social media:Instagram - @ocdpodcastFacebook - @ocdpodcastTwitter - @ongoingcomicpodTess’ Instagram - @tessllanosIf you would like to support the show, please leave OCD a 5 Star review on Apple Podcasts and/or you can support OCD at Patreon.com/OCDPodcast.

Writer Adam Glass (The Normals & Rough Riders) returns along with co-writer Olivia Cuartero-Briggs (Criminal Minds, Peaked in High School) to talk Mary Shelley: Monster Hunter. The story asks what if the Frankenstein Monster was real? According to the Diamond Previews solicitation: “…With the recent discovery of Mary Shelley's secret memoir, the truth is finally revealed: Mary Shelley didn't just write Frankenstein, she lived it.” Hayden Sherman, artist of Cold War, The Few, and Wasted Space illustrates the series. The first issue was release April 17; the 2nd issue issue will be available May 22nd. Olivia researched Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s background. Did you know she is considered the founder of modern horror and was a feminist pioneer? Olivia shares fascinating facts about Mary Shelley’s life and her relationship with her husband Percy Bysshe Shelly. Find out: Who was accompanied Mary Shelley to Geneva, Switzerland during the summer of 1816 where the idea for her novel Frankenstein came to life? Why were her traveling companions considered scandalous throughout Europe? Why is Mary the sole reason Percy’s work survives today? Why does Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein still resonate with audiences today? Could a Frankenstein movie strike terror into 21st century audiences? In the Kicking Back With The Creator segment, Adam and Olivia answer more of my fun question including which horror movie kept them up at night when they were children? And, if they had the chance, what is the one question each would ask Mary Shelley?
