It's been a very busy and important week for the Prime Minister. There was a reason he championed the Investment Summit and made himself available to attendees to a degree unusual for a Prime Minister at events like this. Plain and simple, he desperately needs it to be successful. He has staked his leadership on growing our economy, which includes creating an infrastructure pipeline and attracting the overseas finance to help get things done. It's going to take time to evaluate the summit's success, but the Prime Minister would have been buoyed to hear the Italian tunnelling company behind Auckland's massive Interceptor wastewater project say it will keep workers and machinery in New Zealand now the Government has outlined a proposed pipeline of infrastructure projects. That's an early win. And wins are what the Prime Minister and coalition need. Two polls this week showed support for Labour is higher than National, and Labour leader Chris Hipkins is overtaking Luxon as preferred Prime Minister. It's not just the National Party who will be concerned. The Taxpayers Union Poll saw ACT drop 2.3 to 7.7 percent and NZ First drop 1.3 to 5.1 percent. I know there's a lot of scepticism about polls. It's not as if Labour are presenting an alternative invigorating vision that's dragging voters over. The concern for the Government is they don't seem to need to; there's some wisdom in Labour sitting back and letting the Government lose support all on their own. The declining trend in popularity and the Prime Minister's inability to get traction will irk the hard-working coalition. Especially because they are undoubtedly hard working. But for voters, it only counts if it leads to results. The Prime Minister can't be panicked – he doesn't have time – but the pressure is on. Last night, Christopher Luxon headed off on his first visit to India as Prime Minister in an attempt to deliver another election promise by securing a free trade agreement during his first term in Government. Apparently, the best we can expect is to establish a timeframe for when they begin formal negotiations. Luxon needs to come home with this at a minimum. Next week also sees Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters in the US, discussing New Zealand's relationship with the Trump administration. Peters will meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other US political contacts to discuss a wide range of international issues – including, no doubt, tariffs. Peters is the man for the job, but once again the pressure is on. As the Prime Minister and Government are learning, results take time. But voters are not as patient as they used to be – and their politics are centred on the cost-of-living and making ends meet. While there is no imminent danger to leadership, the polls are a flashing light that without some big wins soon, they may run out of time. Watercare's seven year Central Interceptor project is over halfway complete. The aim of the project is to reduce water overflow in the central Auckland area with the construction of New Zealand's largest wastewater tunnel. The team is about to hit the penultimate breakthrough before arriving at Point Erin Reserve in Herne Bay in March/April of 2025. Watercare Chief Programme Delivery Officer Shayne Cunis told Kerre Woodham that Auckland is going to get a lifetime of benefits from the project. I use them most for GI vitamins and allergy screening. Much more affordable than a standard lab.  DNA heartworm testing-  I've sent to Canada in past- very tricky with customs. Apparently Auburn offers this test. Any vet can set up an account with Auburn's lab to be able to run the test. Ideal when pet parents choose not to use a preventative. Detects living heartworm DNA - positive much sooner than standard testing. Heartworm - Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. Animalbiome.com is an excellent company. tons of high quality research on microbiome health in dogs and cats and specific research on gut health with raw fed animals. Pet parents can test their pet's biome. I tend to recommend this with all of my GI cases, chronic skin, immune health cases. Results vary a lot. Some pets have severe e-coli overloads and practically zero beneficial bacteria so they need fecal transplants and specific pre/probiotic and fiber sources. Inulin might be a better fiber source than psyllium in some cases. Some pets don't have pathogenic bacteria but they have no good flora so they will also need fecal transplants. Best to work with a vet when this is needed as most of my patients need more support when they are undergoing fecal transplant. I reach for S boullardi /FOS a lot. This is not found in standard small animal formulas. Their product line is amazing! Vax/Titers: puppy /kitten vaccine protocol with titer testing recommendations from Dr. Jean Dodd's foremost authority on endocrine disease and immunology in small animals. One of her projects is the rabies challenge fund. vaccine protocol | HemopetPuppies and kittens need their vaccine series per the protocol to protect them from deadly diseases. We think of these as core vaccinations. We start them earlier in Texas because of the much higher risk here. These vaccines are extremely effective. I usually run titers when the pet has already had one 3 year vaccine because they tend to be better protected and if they are protected, we can run the titers every 3 years when the vaccine would be due.  Rabies is a legal requirement to prevent human exposure to this deadly disease. We have  a lot of rabies in Texas! Every year, there is at least one pet dog and multiple kittens or adult cats who test positive for Rabies in Austin. They are tested because of human exposure and they are euthanized so their brain tissue can be tested :( All healthy pets should be vaccinated at least twice before titers are run.  Titers can still be run but many clinics won't accept the titers. I am rabies vaccinated because I used to work with wildlife. We tested our titers regularly and when they were low, we got a booster. This is standard practice in the human field and may someday be the standard with small animals.  Interceptor dose example: Sharing this with y'all so you can see the calculation for Interceptor (milbemycin oxime) **Please note- the chewable pill cannot be broken because the medication is not evenly distributed** Jax weighs 80 # We convert his weight to kg= 36.4kg 36.4 x 0.1mg/kg = 3.64 mg- this is the bare minimum dose to prevent heartworms. I don't like to have such a narrow margin in case the dog gains weight or there is resistance to the drug and because we can't break the tablet, so I tend to dose at 0.2mg/kg - 0.3 mg/kg (instead of 0.5mg/kg)  So, his more appropriate dose is 7.3 mg- we round up to 8mg.  The 50- 100# dose is 23mg.  The 26-50 # dose is 11.5mg. Certainly our main topic this week is not the kind of thing that we usually talk about on the show, as it's a programme that's shiny and new, and pretty much up to the minute, and is something that you might even regard as “trendy” if you were of a mind to do so. And whilst the realms of the kind of television that is grabbing the headlines right now, and leading to the sort of public conversations that usually set my eyes a-rolling are really not our normal subject matter hereabouts, do bear with me, because not everything is as it might seem. Unless it is, of course. This week, PAUL CHANDLER, THE SHY YETI himself really, really wanted to talk about latest blockbuster TV game show that “everyone” (in inverted commas) has been talking about: THE TRAITORS, because he's been watching a lot of it, in several variant forms, over the past few weeks, and might possibly be said to have got somewhat addicted, and maybe even a little evangelical about it. Anyway, if someone is happy to come onto the show and talk about anything that can quite reasonably be said to be at least vaguely related to television, I'm not going to stop them, even if they want to talk about a television series that I've not seen any episodes of. To be quite honest with you, sometimes those shows where I'm having a programme described and explained to me by someone who is a fan make for the most fun and exciting editions of VISION ON SOUND anyway. Luckily for me, our conversation also manages to take in such joys as older game shows like TREASURE HUNT, THE INTERCEPTOR, BIG BROTHER and SURVIVOR, and we do also try (in a small way) to examine the psychology of what makes such shows quite so appealing to people who do happen to like such things, whilst wondering just what tricks ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE may one day have in store for the unwary gameshow contestant. Welcome to the Living for the Max series.  Over the past 45 years, there has been no other film franchise QUITE as inventive nor as consistently exciting as The Mad Max Saga….four films mostly chronicling the post-apocalyptic adventures of lone wolf Max Roxatansky played three times by Mel Gibson and most recently by Tom Hardy.  As everyone has been directed by Australian cinematic genius George Miller, they have each reflected his unique vision while also being HUGELY influential on pop culture, more specifically the action genre.  So needless to say, new ones don't come around very often and when they do….it MORE than qualifies as a cinematic EVENT.  Therefore over the next several months, I will be revisiting EACH entry of this beloved franchise every month leading up to the U.S. release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga on May 24!  And now the SECOND film in this franchise which is considered by many to be the best overall.....well at least was considered to be the best until Mad Max Fury Road came out in 2015.  But it's still damn impressive bringing us back to Max who is now a drifter with his own heavily souped up Interceptor wandering around the post-apocalyptic Australian Outback.  His character is always on the search for gasoline....as are most others at this point in time which leads to some potential trouble. "Elizabeth goes free.""No,she doesn't, boy," said Barbossa. "Put down that gun. You can't kill me. We're ghosts. We can't die.""You can't. But I can." Will put the gun to his head. "My name is Will Turner. My father was Bill Turner. His blood is my blood!"The pirates looked at Will.They didn't move."Without my blood," said Will, "the curse will always be with you."He was right. (Even if technically speaking it isn't GI Joe). Released May 2021, Spy Hunter & Paper Boy #1-6 (DC, $3.99 each): a "digital first" (but in reality digital only) comic arriving on DC's digital first channels including ComiXology, with all six issues released on the same day You can find the issues digitally on Amazon (formerly comiXology) link https://t.co/e4xMWUOT2x You can also find the issue in other places if you were to Google "spyhunter paperboy viewcomic" The series is written by Larry Hama with art by Mac Rey, and letters by Pat Brosseau and it features a crossover between two old video game franchises, Spy Hunter and Paper Boy. There are very few details publicly available about the book - all 6 issues were quietly released as "Digital first" in May 2021 without any sort of fanfare or publicity by DC. There was really nothing in the comic itself that explained what the series was or why it existed and never had a print release. This is some of the best GI Joe like work by Hama since his prime in the 80s at Marvel with some stunning art. You can read the series and listen or listen and then read it or just listen, whatever!. There are a few spoilers but we've tried not to go too heavy on details of plot. Mac Rey (artist) - Arkansas resident, Mathew “Mac Rey” Reynolds started out in comics back in the early days of Malibu on books like AIRMAN and THE PROTECTORS, more recently he has worked on THE MERCENARY SEA from Image Comics. And “The RUFF and REDDY SHOW” from DC comics. After working on a creator-owned project called VIC FALCON with G.I. JOE writer Larry Hama, they went on to work together on Spy Hunter & Paper Boy. Spy Hunter: a vehicular combat action game developed by Bally Midway and released for arcades in 1983. The object of the game is to drive down roads in the technologically advanced the fictitious G-6155 Interceptor car and destroy various enemy vehicles with a variety of onboard weapons. Paperboy is an arcade action game developed and published by Atari Games and Midway Games, and released in 1985. The player takes the role of a paperboy who delivers a fictional newspaper called The Daily Sun along a suburban street on his bicycle. The game was ported to many home systems beginning in 1986.
